KOH SAMET for NEWBIES | Everything you need to know before your next trip!

got cement is one of the most popular Islands particularly for foreigners to visit because it's so close whether you're living in Bangkok or staying in patio you can get down here to banpai Pier it's really easy to get down here if you haven't been before then join me for this got submit for newbies if you are coming from Bangkok you can get a big bus to coach or you can get a minivan or you can drive of course if you're coming from Patia then also you can get a minivan and you can get on the big bus or you can get a taxi like I did I came down with a bolt taxi and this morning it cost me just under 800 baht to come down to band pay because that is the port where all the boats go over to got cement but here's the first problem when you come to band pay there's a real big choice of ways to get across to the island in fact I just walked along this road behind me and there's about five different Piers that you can choose from they're kind of all much of a muchness but some of them have speed boats some of them have Express big boats and some of them have slow boats which are obviously the cheapest of them all what I found out is it's really just a choice of picking the pier that has the boat going at the right price the right speed and the right time for you because they seem to go about every hour or every half hour the most popular of them I'm standing outside now it's new and tip here and this is the one that many people use if you go from noon to Pier you can get the slow boat and you can get a return ticket that is 120 Baht go and come back and also if you only want to go one way they charge you 70 baht that journey is going to take you maybe about 40 minutes something like that you might want to get there quicker in which case from new and tip here there's a speed boat and the return fare on the speedboat is 300 Baht but be warned they need eight people on the speed boat so when they sell you the ticket if it's only you getting on the boat you may have to wait for more customers to arrive could be five minutes or it could be much longer I'm going to look at some of the other piers and see whether I can get a boat that's going right now because I'm ready to go to got cement [Music] thank you [Music] just about 200 meters from noontip here I've come across another pier and they're advertising a fast speed boat but they claim that you don't have to wait for other people to join you they're just going to go at the correct time oh let's find out if it's true or not hello how are you do you have a speed boat for me yes follow you oh from the big boss yes oh yes yes so I'm here on the pier that belongs to this company which is white shark that's the one that I'm traveling with today and if you travel with them on the speed boat one way it's 200 Baht but if you travel with them return it's a discounted price of 350 Baht and they give you a ticket and they have a boat that goes five times a day all you have to do is phone them one hour before you want to come back and they guarantee that you're on the next boat well that's what they say anyway let's find out apparently it's only 10 minutes and then I'll be in got cement foreign approximately 10 minutes it's like a beautiful day and looking around at all the old boats let's go [Music] so we arrived on time on the pier for the island it only took the 10 minutes that was advertised and you're greeted by two things that you might find interesting one is this rather attractive lady behind us who is Nang Pi sura samut which is a mythical creature or person really from Thai history and I understand that her husband had two wives one is her she's in the water there and another is the mermaid that's under the water down there so quite a sight to greet you with the other thing that might be shocking when you first arrive here as well is that got Summit is a national park so you do have to pay to enter and I know already that foreigners have to pay double what Thai people pay but there's nothing that you can do about it so I was wrong about it being twice as much for foreigners maybe I should apologize because written there in Thai numbers so most foreigners can't read it 40 Baht for Thai adults 200 Baht for foreigners that's five times as much oh my goodness so when you've paid your money to enter the national park then you're faced with getting to the resort that you've booked hopefully and you're going to go buy one of these tuk-tuks the good thing about it is there's a clear price list displayed how much it is per person if there's a group going to the same place or you can Charter it means that you get the suntail exclusively for yourself I'm going to saigal Beach and that's 100 baht if you hire the whole song Tao or 20 Baht hoping that there's other people going to the same place as you so when you arrive at the beach this choose from actually I can book in advance I only book this morning and when I looked on Agoda there's hotels ranging from about 750 Baht or just under 1 000 but right the way up to nearly 4 000 bar a night so there's something for all tastes and all Pockets I chose something kind of in the middle I'm here checking into the scigal boutique hotel I've never been here before but it's kind of in the middle I stayed for one night not including breakfast and it was 1 700 Baht ten songs so my room was on the second floor she's just telling me here about the Wi-Fi the Wi-Fi speed was pretty good actually and when I went to the room it's quite a modern design but actually the building is quite old Pleasant enough it did the job definitely not a sea view in fact I was looking out straight into the wall of an adjoining building but given that I'd only booked on the previous morning I really didn't have any big complaints it was clean staff were friendly there was food available outside the front and it's right on the beach you just step out of the hotel and look at this lovely white sand one of the biggest and widest and longest expenses are beautiful sand in Thailand lovely Blue Sky turquoise blue sea lovely temperature according to TripAdvisor the number two Beach on cement is saigel and that's where I'm staying in the hotel but the number one beach is our prowl and the reason that that is the number one beach this is the best beach to watch the sunset and you can get there by using a song tail and they're going to charge 200 Baht for the private song Telltale [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] so this is Beach number one if you look on TripAdvisor and the reason it's Beach number one is well it's a beautiful curved crescent-shaped Sandy Beach the sea is turquoise blue it's lovely and clean and it also has three very nice hotels on this beach only three and I've stayed in two of them they're actually owned by the same company and if you come with them they have their own pier and they bring you on the boat right onto this pier on got submit and then you just walk down and you're on the beach at your hotel so it's really convenient it's very peaceful this is not a beach where you're going to find bars and nightlife or anything like that but if you want to spend a little bit more money and just relax watch the sunset this is a great place to be if you want more lively entertainment we're going back to saigel later and they've got the fire show there they've got the restaurant on the beach and they've got more nightlife and activity cocktail bars all of that sort of thing the choice is yours so it's eight o'clock here on the beach and you cannot really go to got cement or indeed any of the Thai Islands without witnessing a fire show and in a few minutes time there's going to be one of the most popular fire shows starting right here let's have a look oh [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] overnight time for breakfast and I need coffee as every morning I'm going to take you to my favorite coffee shop on got cement it's just around the corner so this is an alley that you'll get to know because this alley leads up to where the song curl go from and also down onto the main street after that which I'll take you on in a moment but I'm here for a different reason one of my favorite coffee shops is here this place is called KU at Sea and it's actually a bed and breakfast and bar place where they've got a lovely coffee shop next door which is called jump at sea that's where my breakfast is waiting [Music] foreign [Music] so back in the center of town and this is the street that you can walk down down here in the evening you're going to find all of the restaurants and some bars and some massage shops lots of different things but perhaps the most important thing that you might wish to remember is the 7-Eleven on the right hand side has an ATM there aren't that many ATMs around this part I've got cement so probably worth knowing where that one is I've used it already there's lots of fresh vegetable shops different types of restaurants some very much aimed at tourists some aimed at tire nation people you can book a taxi here it's really if you don't want to be eating on the beach it's the part of town where you get the most choice of restaurants and shops and to rent a motorbike you can see at the shops around it says 100 Bar for a day including free gasoline sure it includes three life insurance but never mind that so that is it 24 -year done got submit hopefully you learned something along the way for the new people who might be wanting to go it's a great Island I've had a fantastic time over the last
