[Music] hey there jet fuel family now I usually make dishes from start to finish but I'm gonna start to do more basics now there's nothing more important than learning how to cut an onion let me show you how to cut an onion into slice dice and lien--a s because without sexy cuts if we doesn't look that great first thing you always want to do is take the tip and the root off and you want to cut it in half and always kind of have kind of North Pole to South Pole right and now you got to have and you always want to peel and a half you don't ever want to peel when the onion is totally round because that's just such a real pain there's a root side and there's the top side and you guys want to cut on the top side remember never never never cut on the absolute side you have to see that the easiest cut is going to be the slice and all that means is you see the rainbow we're just going to continue the rainbow and you know eighth inch quarter inch is usually a slice and that's a slice so the dice is a tougher cut it's really a 3-step process now you have to determine first is it a quarter inch or a half inch dice if it's a quarter inch dice you're going to go quarter inch quarter inch quarter inch quarters nine without going all the way through so that'll be the first cut so here we go so a quarter inch slice making sure not to go through the onion and then we're gonna come over the top and do quarter inch in again leaving this little area back here connecting the onion once you've done your two kind of quarter inch cuts you're just going to finish with a cut you already know which is a slice so now we're going to do a quarter inch slice and this way you make perfect quarter inch dices now if the cut calls for half inch you're just going to take that process and do half inch cuts instead of quarter inch cuts so I start all onions the same I take the top off by about a quarter inch I take the root end off by a quarter inch and then I cut it right in half kind of North Pole to South Pole and when I peel every onion no matter what I do with it I always start it that way this also makes it a lot easier to peel all right so lien--a is in my opinion is the master of all cuts if you picture the center of the onion being the center of a wheel you're actually gonna cut in like spokes but you're only going to come to about here which is top kind of top dead center 90 degrees so watch what I'm talking about so every 1/4 or 8 inch you just want to come in but you want to angle that knife each time so by the time you're at the top you're a dead 90 just like that now with the other side flip it over because I'm right-handed I want to cut from right and if you're left-handed you're obviously going to cooking left so by the time you're at 90 there you go and this is the master of all knife that's great for straw fry really great for French onion soup works for everything I really love this cut right here so now that you know how to cut onion 3 ways you're ready to tackle just about any dish out there from sir fries all the way to Thanksgiving which will probably teach you how to cook here on jet fuel guys make sure to subscribe if you like what you see we're gonna bring you a lot more fun videos and we'll see you next time you [Music]
