hey friends my name is christine welcome to today's video and it begins actually about three weeks ago when i had these counters templated for my new counters coming in so that's what this guy right here is doing this is the old kitchen uh but i thought i would give you the information what the plans are because in this moment of recording right now we have not done it yet here's the deal no let me back up i don't really know where to start here we bought this house one of the major reasons was the size of the kitchen when we moved here uh almost seven years ago wow seven years ago i can't believe that there were not very many houses for sale maybe 15 in total that were within our price range and even our realtor was like are you sure you don't want to go up in price and i was like we cannot afford a penny over this amount and he's like and we had come from the south where houses were less expensive than they were here i mean this was seven years ago so things have changed since then we saw this house we were like oh my gosh the kitchen doesn't suck look how big the kitchen is and i despised the countertops i thought they were the ugliest countertop i'd ever seen but it was big we could afford it it was fine it was totally gonna work and this is absolutely a want and not a need so we were like whatever so here in 2020 it's been many many years our finances are not as tight as they were when we first moved here when i was donating plasma for grocery money and babysitting kids at my house for three dollars an hour things aren't quite as tight and then the lockdown happened and we were in our house a lot and also believe it or not like filming in this kitchen is very difficult because it's dark the counters are very dark so when i film on the counters it doesn't it's not like airy and bright the pictures aren't as pleasing to look at so i was like okay what can i do to brighten up the kitchen so i'm like okay paint the kitchen cabinets so i contacted some companies no one can come everything is is backed up by months and months because everybody is doing stuff to their house and as i thought about it more i was thinking what if what if i paint the cabinets and it's not done well what if it sucks what if i hate it like once you paint you can't go back and the problem with my cabinets is there's actually a lot of knots and divots in the cabinets themselves all of the knots and holes that are in the cabinets so not only would they they would need to be filled and like every single spot would need to be filled sanded down and then professionally painted there's no guaranteed that it would last to the abuse that i give my cabinets because i work in my kitchen a lot i want i want to paint my cabinets white and kind of do things one step at a time like it would be way less expensive than getting new cabinets which there's no way i could afford that so i'm like okay well maybe i just won't do anything like it's fine right and i found this picture on pinterest with my color cabinets that kind of started my jumping point for what i could do to my kitchen while leaving my cabinet and they they're basically my exact cabinets they're the exact color they look the same and they're beautiful with this like beautiful white counter with a white backsplash it just modernizes the cabinets and the cabinets actually don't look that bad and so i'm like oh my gosh i can leave the cabinets and change the counters and the backsplash and and give the kitchen a refresh without the hassle and maybe hating the painting cabinets and i do like that i can keep the warmth of the wood i do like the color of wood i just wanted a brighter kitchen that's what we decided to do new counters new backsplash new undermount sink i don't know how you feel when it comes to home renault it's not something i've ever really done before so when i go into home depot or lowe's and i look at all of the sinks and i look at all of the faucets i'm not really sure like i have a general idea of what i want but then finding what you want is really the trick and i would say the sinks were an easy choice for me but when it came to picking the faucets i knew in my head what i wanted but trying to find in my head what i wanted proved to be more difficult than i thought and then it ended up costing a whole lot more than i thought because when you want to go with black faucets like matte black faucets if you go with a cheaper brand they if you read the reviews which i did they the finish will peel after not very long and that is not something i wanted to replace in like six months or something i want this these faucets to last a really long time i was very meticulous about what i picked out read all of the reviews and i think i ended up with some good choices and of course i will leave everything i bought linked down below if you guys are also looking to maybe upgrade a bathroom or a kitchen and you want to get new faucets or something like that so when the day came to start the demo tyler as you can see is helping me take out all of the outlets so they're out of the way for the guys taking out the counters and backsplash demo probably is something that i could have done on my own but after seeing how long it took the two guys i mean it was probably three and a half hours to take down all of the tile it was awful it would not come off very well at all what a great helper tyler is i thought that was so awesome that he was so excited to be a part of this project and i love that it was one more thing that that i didn't have to do and yes we did end up switching out all of these almond tan color with white outlets so here we go it is demo day one watch this guy work on this so i know you're only watching about a minute's worth of the demo of that tile right here but in actuality it was over an hour of him trying to take these off and not totally destroy the drywall which he did end up destroying the drywall you guys i'll show you that clip in just a second of just absolutely demolishing what was left and i was a little nervous actually because my tile guy was coming the next day to do my tile backsplash and i was like um are you gonna be able to repair the drywall he was like oh no problem so i was not as worried about it at that point but right here with these four guys in here they had been taking out stuff for three hours at this point and you see how they're trying to scrape off the top of the counter it's because they were screwed in with these long long wood screws into the cabinets and you can't just rip it out when it's screwed in if it's nailed on sure but they had to strip down the top to find the screws in order to take it off it was insane so you guys can see they're still working on that back countertop section and at this point i was starting to get really excited because with the dark counters and tile gone i kind of saw a little bit of white shining through and i was like oh my gosh i see how much brighter it's going to be with my new countertops with these white countertops that i had picked out they did so much work and it was so messy and dirty so i was thrilled that i decided not to demo this myself and not having a kitchen and running water for basically three days made me really glad i decided to meal prep some meals to just uh microwave to eat so that took three hours for them to demo this whole thing i can already dave if you stand back here can you already tell the difference because i can kind of see white now ah that is messed up look at that the whole section is missing here comes my new sink it is a black crushed quartz i believe single basin under mount sink it's massive and so they were putting it in there to see if it was going to fit with the new counters which are coming in as right there as you guys can see and it ended up not i'll actually show you that in just a second oh my gosh i'm so happy it looks pretty great it just totally transformed the whole thing oh my gosh pooh buddy oh my gosh i can't wait till that backsplashes in this process right here of putting in actual countertops was one of the most exciting dave and i just sat back and couldn't stop watching them bringing in all these huge pieces of stone laying it on our kitchen and watching the kitchen just brighten up every time they brought in a new piece so i know you guys are probably wondering but we did purchase quartz for a couple of different reasons it is steam proof it's stone i've never had stone before and it's one of the cheapest ones available it's even cheaper than your cheapest granite in my area they will install the sink cut the hole for the faucet and then do the bathroom which they have not done yet this machine right here that they're using to do the seams like was the most interesting thing ever it was so loud okay they are finally out for the night it is eight o'clock p.m they just finished i can't use my sink for 24 hours plus we gotta put the garbage disposal in and put in the faucet and the backsplash this is my faucet well except not that piece i just stuck it in there real quick here's my huge single basin very dusty never had an undermount sink and i put up some of the backsplash tiles just to kind of see what it would look like uh that will be fixed tomorrow okay so i'm going to take a step back like look at the black on white on black with the wood tone of the cabinet the floor is so dirty right now there is no drywall at all so what i think the tile guy is probably actually just going to rip all this up and put new drywall all the way back there oh my gosh i'm so glad i went with the black faucet the whole kitchen is brighter yes the the way the loud the what can i talk the way the light is bouncing off of the counter and back up instead of being absorbed by the old color is spectacular i love you like the veining the veining i really really do how is it going to look when i stand in here and like cook stuff that's look how bright it is oh my gosh look like look at the lighting of that okay hi welcome to the cooking show with christine how does it look like the light it looks great usually i have a really hard time filming at night because even with lights everywhere it feels dark or at least it used to does it feel dark to you or do you think i could just like like i can record videos at night and it would look okay and notice we don't even have the ring light on i don't even have the ring lights out or anything i have these guys have been here for so long i haven't even been able to come up and look at everything so dave i don't know if you noticed this so i want you to look at the seams so the seam here is white and white okay and then over here dude he did the scene where this vein is all the way up look at this the seam is here but the vein goes all the way across the seam that is really well done do you see that it's right there look how big this sink is oh my gosh i need to put a pot in it oh it stinks under the cabinets oh should we open these let these air out okay look oh it's pretty big dude in my last one i was like i was like this to wash this i could put four of them this isn't hooked up to anything by the way i just like i just did that just to see what it would look like it's just sitting there lately just sitting there um we'll install that tomorrow with so we'll hook all this back up tomorrow so we can use the kitchen tomorrow was with my mom at her house my mom is building a house in my town so i'm with her and the builder and we're looking at her title that is being chosen for the master shower okay the builder is there and there and i was like hey is your tile guy available for hire to do my backsplash and the builder's like yeah let me give you the info so that's the guy i hired to do my kitchen backsplash is actually the same tile guy that's doing my mom's house so do you like the edge i went with i just went with a simple flat i think i do yeah this is clean you know i'm glad i went with the thin the thin veining instead they have like a really fat big one i feel like this one looks more like marble than the other one it does man that backsplash is ugly right now so here's my problem i really can't start changing out all the outlets in here until when there's daylight oh because you gotta turn the electricity off started switching out the knobs here it reeks in here it like the smell of glue or whatever they use like underneath it stinks underneath the cabinets so i'm trying to like open these to air these out because it just smells welcome to day two and meet hugo he is the tile guy that did my mom's house and he is now doing my backsplash so as you can see he basically cut out all of the old drywall that was like all shattered from the day before and installed all new drywall so he had a spot to put the tile and he started over in this back corner by the fridge and i gotta say he was meticulous about leveling and measuring because it's a brick pattern right so every tile he placed he's like he's got his tape measure and he's inching it over a little bit so it sits directly center doing it this way was not fast but i am telling you what he did it perfectly and so i was totally fine it took him about a day and a half to do all of this so this is the first day that you're watching right now and i'll kind of show you the part where he did on the second day and then of course obviously you have to grout on a different day watching him do this while dave was at work was awesome basically because dave and i didn't have to do it i just thought hiring a professional for the backsplash obviously yes dave and i could have done the backsplash 100 but we would not have done it this well and i think it would have taken us probably triple the time and also like we don't have a tile saw so we're gonna have to go get a tile saw we're gonna have to go um get all of the tools all the measuring pieces he used his own thin set his own grout his own caulk all of his favorite products that he uses to do tile so i was really really glad that i was able to hire him and he was able to come over and do this for me i would recommend him for any tile job to anybody i was so impressed by the work that he did so the tile that i picked right here is called chloe white and i purchased it from a tile shop and while it is expensive per square foot it's such a small area that i thought the couple extra dollars to purchase it was well worth it what i love about this backsplash tile is that it actually comes in three or four different colors and you can kind of see them in this shot the varying colors of white gray and almost a tannish gray color so once it's all up it looks really really interesting to look at it's not just all like one uh white subway tile which i think would have been pretty as well i knew i wanted a subway tile in the kitchen so it's just a matter of picking what color how big and which way i should go i always loved like the glass subway tile maybe in a pretty color like blue or something like that but when it comes to standing the test of time white you just can't go wrong with a white subway dial i know you guys love those before and afters so that is what we are doing now on the left you can see the before shot of my kitchen it's been that way since i moved into the house almost seven years ago and to the right is what it looks like now the tile is done it has been grouted you can see right here that we took the tile all the way up the sides of the window to the top of the cabinets right there i felt like that was such a small little detail but made a massive difference in the impact of the kitchen it's the same dishwasher as you can see but the sink is different and we did start putting the new hardware on the cabinets but we are not done with all of them yet as i got to get the drill out and finish that but i was so excited to take these after shots for you that i just couldn't wait anymore we have been waiting for everything to dry so we can take all of the protective tape off and everything like that adore my black faucet and my black sink i just think they give the perfect pops of color i am in love with the varying shades of grays and whites in the backsplash and once again i thought hugo did such a fabulous job i can't believe how much brighter the kitchen feels all the time even at night when it's dark outside i don't get a ton of natural light in my kitchen so having the white and the light pop off of the white have really made a huge difference in the way that it looks overall i teased this transformation over on instagram so if you guys do not follow me over there i would recommend checking it out at frugalfitmom6 on instagram i will continue to post some little behind the scenes of other projects that we're doing over there you guys have seen the before and afters and here's here's the kitchen here are the updates here's what we've been working on for the last like a four day process once work actually started but i would say changing out countertops and backsplash at least during this time of 2020. things were backed up a lot it was actually more like a two-month process once we decided to go ahead and do it and once i picked my countertops what does the lighting look like in the new kitchen with the white i want to tell you guys some of my favorite parts about the kitchen as it sits right now number one the white it's brighter it's easier to film and i said this earlier in the video it was so difficult to film at certain times of the day and even in certain angles because there's very little natural light i basically have this window which is behind me which is not ideal and then this door over here which is very very minimal as well and that's it that's all of the natural light in this room it was a struggle as far as filming goes number two i've hated the counter since the day we moved in i just thought they were the ugliest the ugliest counters ever it was almost like they were building the house and they were like so bob what you got in the back for me like by the dumpster and he's like let me show you what i got i'll pay you to take it and he's like great and then they put it in my house i'm really excited was that a real reenactment yeah it was great that's what truly happened so i just think it's prettier i like i like the variation of color on the counter number one because it'll hide stuff number two because i knew while i knew i wanted white i knew i didn't want straight white with nothing on it because that's not my style i like interesting things to look at can we talk about the sink can we talk about the sink i'm obsessed doing dishes in this sink has never been so fun i never minded doing dishes before but now now oh my gosh i can fit so much stuff in here it's really dumb how much i love the sink and how much i love this faucet because it has a super power boost button that shoots the water out faster so if you want to like take it off and like clean out the sink and whatever and i also got a new garbage disposal the old one was about 15 years old we're taking everything out anyway i figured why the heck not guess what i got the quiet line quite i think that's what it's called from lowe's it sounds like it's not even doing anything and yet it does more than the old one it's the little things my friends the tile up the sides of the window it's this right here these cuts on the tile right here these are the money cuts my friends right here he did this this top one by hand he curved it around the wood and look at that one look at that one that's where he paid the dollar dollar bills right there it was almost like uh when he was here i'm like hey could you what do you think about taking the tile because before it stopped here and i'm like what do you think about taking the tile up to the top and he was like oh that's easy i'm like okay i think we're gonna go for it he's like great i love i love the tile around the window lastly my favorite thing that we did is changing out all these outlets to white look they're so clean and they're so pretty oh we haven't changed that one yet they are so pretty it's so silly but like i love the white stupid outlets it's it's it's the little touches that's what it is and look look i have a bougie soap dish so now i'm a real youtuber [Laughter] i actually just found it in my house i didn't go buy anything i hope you guys enjoyed the kitchen transformation that i covered in today's video if you guys have any questions about something that i didn't cover please let me know down below i am probably going to do a follow-up video on the kitchen i've cooked a few things in it and i will say that though nice and white and pretty makes me want to keep it clean more often so i might be one of those like ocd people that needs their kitchen clean all the time now we'll see we'll see how that goes i don't know it's been a long couple of days for us and i'm so excited to have it done and be able to show it to you guys because i've kept a secret for a really long time if you like kitchen transformations give this video a thumbs up that would be awesome this is christine signing off thank you for joining me today and i'll see you in the next video goodbye bye now goodbye video's over
