(cardboard falling) - I think Lizzie just fainted. (laughs) (epic music) Hey everybody, it's Barry, I hope you're well. Now, there comes a time, from time to time when, when I get bombarded, I mean literally bombarded by you guys. I've done this from time to time in the past where I've done a single gadget review, and this one, I didn't really wanna review it on its own, but I just felt that I had to prove to so many of you that I've actually looked it. In fact, there's actually a whole playlist of single gadget videos, if you've not seen them, do have a Barrathon and check it out if you don't mind. But this, so, so, so many requests for this in the last few weeks, I was like right, I've got to just do this video because my entire timeline, Instagram messages, Facebook, everything was just like Barry, you have to do this. This is it. This is the Amazing Melon Cutter, I think it came from China, I can't remember where I got it from, but it's damaged already, look at that, that's how it arrived. Your best solution for eating melons. Isn't that something we want on a t-shirt? It's got some other Chinese writing on it, and numbers, and things like that, but it does have a diagram along the front here, so it is kind of like a tongy windmill thing, where you sort of wind it, apparently, along your melon, and it'll give you nice chunks, but not only does it give you chunks, it kind of portions them into little square parcels that it will deposit and hold at the end of the stem. I guess that's the name for it, stem. (laughs) So in true Dirty Dancing style, today I have carried a watermelon, love that film, love it. All right, hopefully, we're just gonna need to use the one for this gadget, and it works a charm, because if we can, I've got a really cool hack of a watermelon, of slicing it that I can show you, and also, I did do a gadget video before on three other watermelon gadgets with like a keg, and a slicer, and stuff like that, so if you fancy check that out, after this video, do have a look. All right, let's get this out the way, and let's see what's in here, it does feel very, very light. Okay, here we go. That's what I've been seeing, and there is nothing else in there, so the instructions I've only got are the visual ones here, but it kind of makes sense, they've halved the watermelon to reveal the nice red surface and then they seem to just run it along it. (box clattering) Wow, that's quite sharp, as well. So I don't think it's been very ergonomically designed that well, got a nice little green plasticy thing there, what does that do, what do you do? No, it doesn't seem to serve any purpose, other than perhaps being the cheapest grip in the world, so there is a bit of non-slippage on it a bit, but it's all about this, there's a slightly angle on there, and it is like a windmill effect, that apparently we submerge it into the watermelon, and then that will just push it through, and slice it, so, I don't know, I think the best thing to do is just to slice up a melon, and just make it work, because if it does work, it's gonna individually potion and do a little conveyor belt along there of perfect watermelon chunks, all right. (knife knocking) Isn't that one of the coolest things in the world of food? I just, I just love that, isn't cool, innit? (knife knocking) (gasping) (gadget clicking) (laughs) Look at that. Oh, my gosh. (laughs) That's amazing. Let's have a look, it's done really nice, I mean they're not square, at all, I mean that's probably my fault, but really nice chunks of melon there, and now I've got into it, let's try it again. Come on, argh. Oh, it's- Whoops. Can dogs eat watermelon? - [Mobile Assistant] According to AKC.org, the answer is yes, with a couple of precautions. - All right, there's no seeds in that, go on, go get it. Go on. There you go. (dogs lips smacking) All right, well the dogs approve. But anyhow, look, it's just making these really nice neat rows, and I guess, you kinda just go, is it like steady through it, like that, and you're pushing out, that is actually really, really, this has surprised me massively, I did not think this would be anywhere near as good. So if I'm sort of careful with this, argh, I say careful, what happens is it kind of hits the rind and it gets stuck. I wonder if you could be a bit adventurous and go the other way. Yes, you can. That's awesome. You just sort of keep running it along it, I wonder who invented- Oh, my. (laughs) (upbeat music) Literally windmilling every bit. (laughs) Look at that! Even the bits of flesh there, you can go and scrape the surface of so you get every bit off. I was generally thought that you guys wanted me to review this 'cause it was gonna be horrendous, but this is amazing. We're totally gonna be having a salad with this later, but look, if I just go straight in, I don't know if this is gonna work. (laughs) Ah, I love, look, 'cause I went fully in, I've got really nice, apart from the little lip there, really nice chunks on that, look at that, and it just, it goes in, and just pushes it along. Woo. That is so clever, and you've got like a perfectly cut out section, like a wedge, like that. Just gonna try and do it a bit slower. Oh, look at it. (laughs) Ahh. This is so addictive. I just, I've got nothing else to say about it, it's actually working a charm, whether it was just on a wedge like this, or a big boy one like that, just literally halving it, and you're getting no wastage whatsoever, of course, anytime you use a watermelon, apart from a hack that I will show you, it's done really, really well. The only downside is it does feel a little bit dangerous, like there is actually quite sharp so you need to be careful holding it. This really does serve no purpose at all, but that has gotta be, I don't know, it's a bit messy, but for the summer months, having a cocktail, making a watermelon party festival thing. (slurping) That's all right. All right, let's just compare this, this is a watermelon baller, I nearly said waterbelon maller then, and you know, you go in like that, and you can scoop up and get nice little ball shapes of melon like that, but you're getting that roundage on there, or you can drag across, and potentially just take off into it, and make a right mess, that's fine. But look, you're not getting like the decent chunks straight out of it which, generally, people like a nice chunk of watermelon, don't they? Oh. And that is where this comes in, you turn it round, you're straight in, you're straight in, and you're breaking your watermelon nearly, but look at that, that is one of the best gadgets I've ever, ever reviewed. (cardboard falling) I think Lizzie just fainted. (laughs) The most important thing, I'm not putting too much sort of strength into it, 'cause it's so soft, it just glides through. Ahh! And I guess if you, you could use a spoon or whatever, but if you had a watermelon baller as well, you can then scrape away any of the excess, so you're basically just left with the core, the flesh, the nasty bit that dogs can't have. (scraping) Look at that. (laughs) All right, so here, with my spare watermelon now, is a really easy way to serve watermelon anyway. So you take one half, half your watermelon, leave the other side like that, in fact we'll do the one without the sticker on it. (imitates DJ decks) So you turn it round like that, get a nice solid stance on like this, and take about one inch slices like this, slice it down, bum-bum-bum. (cheery music) All right, so that looks still, you know, if you squint your eye a little bit that still looks like a normal watermelon, then you can freak someone out and go, oh. (laughs) So, hold it together, spin it round 90 degrees, and then do the same, so about an inch cut width again, straight down, ah. (cheery music) All right, there we go, so this is, generally how, when we've had parties here, especially the kids in the summer, they love this, we've now halved it like 90 degree inches one way, spun it round, 90 degree the other, so that way you should be left, boom, with like melon sticks. (loud chomping) Nice. I can make an amazing salad with that, the dogs are having some, but also with some watermelon, you can make a really good cocktail if you've got a coconut. A coconut has sort of like three holes in it, kind of like a bowling ball, ah! And what you do, is you can take a little bottle opener, corkscrew thing, and pierce two of those, two of- couple of those, doesn't have to be all three, even just one to drain the water out. (coconut cracks) Ah, look at that, ha-ha! Holey coconut. And actually, you don't always have to pop it down like that, look, that's just pulled it straight out like that, so we should be able to drain this off. So using a jug, and our new sieve, because if you remember the old sieve ended up helping to suspend a giant chocolate bunny. (water draining) You put the lime in the coconut, you can drain off your coconut. Pass it through a sieve to get any naughty bits out. So what we'll do is add a good couple of handfuls of the watermelon, the fresh coconut water, this is some apple gin, it's very, very nice indeed, so, you know, this is alcoholic obviously, you don't have to do that, if you want it non-alcoholic, whiz it up as is, add some fruit juice, apple juice should be really good, but we're gonna whiz it now. (plastic clattering) (blender motor) Boom. So you can keep it chunky if you want, but if you want it smooth, again, pass it through your sieve. So hopefully, if we get this right, it'll look pretty cool, you might even get a little bit of head on there from the foam as it settles, so it kind of looks a bit like beery, or cocktaily, look at, there it is, yes. It seems to be like gin has had a bit of a reboot at the moment, it's kind of like we're all like caveman and we've discovered it again, but I quite like gin, Mrs. Barry absolutely loves it, so it means I have to love it, bit of watermelon, straw, boom. So this day has kind of gone from gadget, to hack, to recipe but- (slurps) Oh, ho-ho-ho, naughty. At 10:30 in the morning, naughty. Cheers! I've got to have one more go, haven't I, with that gadget. Come on. Come on. (laughs) That one just flung over. (laughs) It does do that, does like a forward roll thing, but this is basically it, I'm done with this video now, folks, so basically for the rest of my day, I'm just gonna be slicing up watermelon unnecessarily, and making a lot of salads, and having a lot of watermelon. I can't remember where I got this from, I'll try and find a link to it, I'll put it in the description but, hey, what a way to have a good time, in the words of Alan Partridge. See you next time. ♪ Check your level player ♪ ♪ No matter what your style ♪ ♪ The kitchen's for me ♪ ♪ Sideburns, moustache, goatee ♪ ♪ Maybe all three ♪ (rap beats) Of course, one other hack that we've done, that I've not talked about is that you've now made yourself a massive phone holder out of your watermelon, so simple core it to your liking, and place your mobile phone inside the melon, like so. Okay, brilliant.
