hi i'm darnell with recipes and this is my review of the kitchenaid countertop oven with airfry so let's go ahead and get it opened up all right so we have everything unboxed now and you can see the power cord it's a three prong grounded power cord they do mention in the manual to make sure that you're using a three prong outlet a three prong power outlet with this cord it is an 1800 watt cooker so it can give a lot of power it's on the higher end and so i want to go over some of the accessories and such with you there's the as far as documentation there's just a quick start guide and the manual they don't have any recipes or anything in the manual so lord willing as i go through my paces with this i'll be able to offer you some uh usage tips and uh you know ongoing videos with this as far as you know how to cook certain things in it but let's go over the accessories that come with it there's this uh basically the drip pan that comes with it there and so i'm just going to go ahead and slide that in down the bottom there so that just slides in down bottom under the heating elements and that is standard with most airfryer ovens they're going to have the the drip pan go down under the heating elements that's usually the case um also got a rack here that's where you would put your bread and pizza and such when you want to cook those and it has two rack levels i'll show you inside in a moment there's also an airfry basket and so you can do airfryer with that they do mention if something has a lot of drippings then you want to be able you want to use this set up here this is the big pan it comes with a kind of grill rack to it you can put that grill rack into your baked pan and anytime you're cooking anything that has a lot of drippings you can basically do it like that there to you know do your cooking or you can just use a big pan for your baking i also wanted to mention with the airfry basket they do mention that you should put some oil on it like some spray-on cooking spray or something when you use the airfry basket to prevent sticking they do recommend that and i also wanted to point out that this cooker has a temperature range of between 80 degrees fahrenheit and 450 degrees fahrenheit so it gives a range uh literally for everything from proofing dough up to dehydration and everything up to real hot and fast air frying is what this should be able to perform doing and they recommend for clearance to give it clearance of four inches on the top and all sides four inches of clearance now i just want to show you around the cooker some you can see the front and see the sides there you have some holes on the side there and on that side there are no holes on the top the top does have kind of like a kind of surface where you can kind of set things on like when you're cooling something [Music] and here on the back you see the back we've got some ventilation in the back there there's also some holes down up under this part here down under there there's some holes as well so that's a kind of a 360 look at it now i wanted to give you more of a close-up view of the cooker you can see you know you've got the door and we'll go inside in a moment but it has this selector knob for the different uh functions and we'll go through all of those in detail later it also has a start button cancel button and a convection button to control the fan also you can hold this convection button to switch between fahrenheit and celsius when you temperature this knob here spins to select like time and temperature you also press it in so like when you're switching between time and temp you press this in but we'll go through more of those details of how to use all the functions and buttons later now inside i wanted to basically show you a good look inside you can see it has two heating elements on the bottom the airfry fan is in the back similar to the ninja foodie xl pearl airfry oven you've got up top you've got one you've actually got two you've actually got two heating elements there's two yeah that's the other one there and then there's one further in the back there back here and you see back over here there's the light and over here is the ambient probe that it uses to measure temperature so that's all that's inside of there and you see there's two rack levels also let's show you direct levels there's one two rack levels for putting things on all right so here's a side by side of the ninja foodie xl pro airfry oven in the kitchenaid and so you can see i mean right off the ninja foodie is much larger larger probably every way than the uh kitchenaid here but i'm going to just kind of you know if we just kind of do a side side on the exterior it's like 17 inches there over here with the kitchenaid we're talking about uh almost 17 inches maybe 16 and a half inches there front to back not including any hump is about 17 and a half inches to the handle if you do including the hump in the handle part it's like maybe 19 a quarter front back over here if we do from like the hump in the back to the front handle is 18 inches not including the hump in the back up to the handle is about 15 and a quarter inches and let's see about height also when it comes to height the ninja foodie is just a little over 13 inches whereas the kitchenaid is you know just maybe 11 and a half inches if that night and we open up inside of the cooker we go side to side inside we've got 14 and a half on the ninja foodie in here we've got about 14 and a half there also in front to back we go all the way into the back of the ninja i'm hitting the fan guard that the ninja foodie have i have 12 inches and measuring inside is the kitchenaid the kitchenaid although it has a hump in the back that's really for the fan it's not a hump that extends out for like pizzas and such and so front the back the kitchenaid has 13 inches so the kitchenaid has one inch more kind of in the back just because of design because to compensate for the fan they put an extra hump in the back and cut off the rest whereas the ninja the guard on the fan basically with the fan like construction and all is all inside of here so it kind of shortens things inside in the back there so let's have a look at some of the accessory sizes we look at the airfry basket you can see the airfry basket for the ninja is a little bigger than the kitchenaid airfry basket now when we look at the big pan you know this has kind of like a nice little stainless steel grill rack inside and this one has this type of a grill rack but the ninja food is way bigger i mean it's panicked it's way bigger now if you look at the just the plain old racks plain rack is basically basically same size pretty much i mean the ninja is maybe just a little wider maybe just a little wider but uh they're very similar in size as far as these racks are concerned now here i have a 13 inch big pan with no handles and this is a nice usa steel pan and it fits as you know from the past in the ninja foodie very well if you haven't seen my ninja foodie reviews you can check those out here on this channel and sorry about the noise but it also fits comfortably in the kitchen age so if you have a 13 inch big pan with no handles it will fit fine if you have a 13 inch big pan with handles you're not going to get it in all right so i'm just going to do one more side by side comparison here if you're wondering about other cookers as far as them being side by side comparisons you'll have to look at my reviews of those and the measurements i did there and kind of do your own comparisons but this is the cuisinart chef's convection toaster oven next to the kitchenaid here and basically with the sizing you can see they're very similar in size the one difference here with the cuisinart is it's got the control panel on the side to kind of add some width to it and so let's go ahead and do some measuring of just over the top here from side to side it's like 20 inches there whereas with the kitchenaid it's just about 17 inches so the kitchenaid saves a little on width because you got the controls down bottom there and when you do the full height it's like just about 11 inches on the cuisinart and maybe just a little over 11 on the kitchenaid but very similar there as far as that's concerned and when we go front to back and i'm just going to do like any back hump all the way to handle we've got about 16 inches on the cuisinart on the kitchenaid we've got just about 17 and a half inches maybe just a little a little more there so we got a bit more hump in the back there on the kitchenaid and when we open things up i'm just going to basically do an interior side to side if you do interior side side on the cuisinart it's 14 and a half inches whereas on the kitchenaid you've got just about 14 and a half inches there and front to back in the cuisinart you've got just about 13 and a half inches so you get like maybe a half inch more over here than you do on the kitchenaid which only gives you just maybe 13 inches from the back there and so that's how they measure up all right so now i'm going to go ahead and just plug the cooker in and we'll see what happens when you first plug it in when you plug in you get this uh initial light up so we know that it's on and i wanted to point out that this knob here also when you're doing a cook you can skip the preheat by pressing this knob and you see now that i pressed the knob and immediately switched to the 150 degrees with convection in this convection button you can turn it on and off for all cooking functions except for airfry wherever you can use it you can use it on cooking functions where it works but not with airfry because airfry keeps the fan on high the entire time so that's the only one where the fan is locked in now we're going to go through all the functions of this cooker and the first one we have on is dehydrate and basically like i said you can have you know things set to whatever temperature you want you can select temperature between 80 degrees and 180 degrees fahrenheit to like 80 to 180 and if you press the knob then you can adjust your time and you're allowed a time adjustment of between one minute to 12 hours on dehydrate and you need to use rack level one or two with dehydration and when dehydration runs the cooker uses the two bottom heating elements and the high speed convection fan by default the next option is the proof option now with the proof option everything would go on rack level one for proofing and you get a temperature range of 80 degrees to 100 degrees fahrenheit for proofing and your time range can be between one minute and one hour and the two bottom heating elements alone run during the proof with no fan and our next function that we'll talk about will be bagel now with bagel bagel and toast are pretty much identical as far as their function i guess maybe when the cooker is running maybe it's doing something different but there's really nothing fundamentally different with both bagel and toast you basically what you use rack level number two you put things up a level and you can do shades of between one to eight so you see as i change the shade and shades flashing that little bar goes out so like if i go down to one you know that bars all the way in and you can also do slices so if i press in and i go over to slices slices of flashing i can do between one to six slices and when you're doing toast or bagel all four heating elements run and no fan now with airfry you would use rack level 2 because the cooker only has two rack levels and the interesting thing when i was uh doing my homework before this review the pdf version of the manual from off of kitchenaid's website shows that you use rack level 2 but this manual here the written manual interestingly shows use rack level 3 for airfry but there is no rack level three for airfry there's no there's only two rack levels so the manual has a little error there there are no three rack levels to use wreck number two or three and with airframe the temperature ranges are 150 degrees fahrenheit to 450 degrees fahrenheit cooking time is one minute to one hour and during airfry the two top and bottom heating elements run and the high speed fan runs the entire time on airfry next is the bake option and with bake you use the second rack level and the cooking time or the cooking range of temperatures is 150 degrees fahrenheit 450 degrees fahrenheit cooking times are one minute to two hours maximum of two hours with bake and the two well the heating elements on the top and bottom run two top two bottom and the fan is available you know whether you want to have it on or off with boil you have you can use the higher heating element i mean the higher rack level sorry level two and you would do a temperature range of either 350 degrees or you can go up to 450 degrees fahrenheit hold on let's go to broil i wasn't on bro sorry but you do 350 to 450 there are two temperature ranges this 350 or 450 for boil and then you can get into your times and your time on broil you can go between one minute up to 30 minutes and only the two top heating elements run and you do have convection available on boil a lot of cookers when you do boil you don't have a convection fan that would even run but this one you can use a convection van with a broil which is interesting next option is the reheat option and with reheat you use rack level 2 your cooking temperature ranges are 150 to 450 degrees fahrenheit cooking times are between one minute to two hours for reheat the two top two bottom heating elements run and you have the option with convection with reheat and then the last one is keep warm and with keep warm you use the higher heating well the higher rack level i keep want to say heat the higher rack level and the temperature ranges are 150 to 450 degrees fahrenheit the time range you can use is one minute to two hours the two bottom heating elements run with the keep warm and you have the convection fan available if you want to have like a convection warming and some things i want to point out the cancel button is not a pause button it'll just cancel out if you hit cancel the cooker also has no roast function and no cooking time goes longer than a couple of hours although you know dehydrate can go 12 hours none of the others goes beyond a couple hours at most so if you're trying to do a roast you know there is no option for that and they don't give you a way to easily you know kind of make up your own roast unless you're going to come back every couple hours to you know change the time if you're roasting something that goes for a long time if it goes for more than a couple hours you folks know i i can rock a brisket all day but that's just me now i'm going to just do a pre-check of toast because i like to see if these cookers recognize when they're hot if they adjust and so if i'm using like shade six and i'm doing four slices i'm just gonna see what it starts out at and then i'm going to stop it so it does five minutes 43 seconds that's an interesting uh timing there but let's remember five minutes 43 seconds because when the cooker is warm i'm going to check that again and we're going to see if it adjusts because the cooker is warm or if it like just does five minutes 43 seconds again and now that i canceled out of that i'm just going to wait to cook her up again and i see that it remembers that i had level six four slices so it does remember what you had last now i'm going to basically shut it down i'm going to unplug it so here sorry about the wobbling i've just unplugged it and plugging it back in again and so it's back up and running it's still on the toe setting and i hit this and it's lost my settings so i have to go back and set what i had before just to make sure it remembers that setting and so basically the cooker has memory as long as you don't unplug it you unplug it you lose your memory all right so now we're going to do some temperature testing i've got the igrill2 here and i've got it in there on rack level 2 with the ambient probe up there in the middle not too far away from there but kind of give you an idea of what temperature is where things are cooking and so i'm going to turn it to airfry and i will say in their promotional materials they say that they do like a quick four minute preheat so we'll see if it does a cream a four minute preheat if in those four minutes if it's up to the target temperature and so i'm going to up the temperature to 450 degrees fahrenheit i'll leave the convection fan on and for cooking time i'm going to run it up to an hour we'll just let it you know run for a nice long well i'm not going to let it run for the full hour but just give me time to do everything i want to do in this test and so i'm going to go ahead and hit start and you know it's preheating now i'll you know let this run for now through preheat all right so the preheat seemed to go maybe a little not even a full four minutes in my opinion maybe it was four but it has not reached 450 degrees it's at 394. so we're short over 50 degrees and it's uh maybe four minutes or less preheat but i'm going to let it keep running and see how long it takes to get to the 450 that we were targeting since the temperature is still going up slightly all right so i've let it run in its cooking mode for almost six minutes after the preheat and the ambient probe temperature is showing 423 right after the preheat it reached up to about 400 on the ambient probe and then it shot down to as low as 300 degrees fahrenheit and after getting down not 300 350 i'm sorry we'll make correction there it got down to as low as 350 degrees fahrenheit and after it got down to as low as about 350 it started rising again and since then it's been rising and it's up to a 4 30 now after running for almost seven minutes of cooking time it's up to 4 33 now i'm just going to kind of just put my hand around areas i'm not going to touch but i can tell right around here it's pretty hot i don't want to touch the glass that's pretty hot on the side here it's it's hot i mean i can like tap it for a sec but it's hot over on this side same thing i can tap there but it's hot on the top it's not as hot as the sides necessarily but it's a little hot it's a little hot in the back um yeah it's it's warm back there it's it's not super hot yeah it's hot but it's not super hot so i'd say overall on the exterior it gets kind of hot but not like burn your hand right away as soon as you touch it hot it's not like the black and decker that i reviewed where i mean he touched certain spots on that on the outside you know you're going to be burned but this one you know you can you can touch for a sec it's it's hot but it's not like super hot now the temperature i guess it got up to like around that 438 or so but now it's dropping back down again but it never actually hits that 450 that ambient probe kind of up in the corner you know maybe heat's getting trapped up in that corner and maybe that's causing it to think that it's 450 but i do know that my igrill2 is reliable i know that the temperature that it's giving me is a pretty decent read so this cooker comes in as far as the temperature in your cooking area just a little under what the ambient pearl things tip is so you know the preheat doesn't really get there then later it kind of gets closer but it never really gets to that full 450 degrees fahrenheit all right so it's been going through the cooking phase for almost 13 minutes now we're only reading 411 degrees so it never ever gets to that 450 but i'm going to cancel this and i'm going to basically wait the cooker back up and going back to toast you see it still remembers my setting but i just want to hit start while it's super hot and it's showing three minutes 40 seconds so it does properly adjust down for when the cooker is already hot and that's a good thing okay so it's time to do a little toast i've got a rack out here and i've got some homemade whole wheat bread and for you interested in like bread machines and stuff i do have other videos here on the channel using the bread machine cooking bread and that type of good stuff but we put the bread on in there and i'm going to wake the cooker up and we're going to keep those settings there i have allowed the cooker a lot of time to fully cool off so it's fully cooled down now and so we're doing basically a toast on level four at the shade of six and it's going to be a real from you know cool cook it's not going to be a hot cook so hitting start and we see it starts that five minutes 43 seconds we'll let this time count down that'll bring you back and we'll see how this toast turns out okay we're coming into the final seconds of this cook and this bread was fresh not in the refrigerator at all room temperature to start and so that's what we started with and at level six you know we're getting a little smoke action here and you see that the toast was really really cooked you know kind of hard so you know for room temperature six was probably just a little too much to put on it but all the same you see that it you know toast up my bread front and back i'm trying not to burn my hand there but you see front and back got a real nice toasting just show you the other slice you saw the front of it already there's the back of it so things toast up pretty good in this cooker all right so now i've got a frozen digiorno pizza with the rising crust and so to cook it i'm going to go over to bake and i'll leave that well actually more like normal now i'm going to bake let me make sure but i'm going to bake and i want to go up to 400 degrees fahrenheit cooking time i'm going to drop it down to 25 minutes it's supposed to put between like 23 27 minutes i'll leave it at 25 and go to do that with the convection fan we'll do a convection pizza cook you know see if it helps cook the pizza evenly or not but with all of that just gonna go ahead and hit start and it's already at tip so i open up and you see when i open up it basically doesn't pause so i got no pause at all but i guess from the toast it was already well enough to preheat it so i'm just going to go ahead and throw the pizza in there and i'll bring you back when it looks like that pizza's done now i'm basically letting the pizza cook for 20 minutes because it was you know looking a little not yet done earlier but here we are 20 minutes and i'm going to cancel to stop it right there i'm going to open up and take a look one interesting thing this cooker has a light in there there's no light controls but it has a light that comes on when you're cooking and just kind of apparently stays on in inside our pizza here we're reading you know we're in the 160s or so so the pizza's hot even in the middle from my check there so i'm just gonna go ahead and get the pizza on out okay now that we have the pizza out i'm just gonna go ahead and slice it up here all right so with the pizza all sliced up just going to take a slice show you the bottom of it you know it's kind of cooked down there it's not like as cooked as the top and the pizza is you know kind of flexible there kind of also in my topping but i'm just going to bite into it here just real real quick to tell you how it is all right so basically biting into it it's a soft light underneath you know it's kind of got a crust there but it's not a very hard crust underneath so 20 minutes things cook it's you know soft but it's not soggy under the bottom with the pizza all right so now i've got myself a bunch of frozen fries here i'm just trying to kind of put them into a kind of even layer but i'm going to open up the cooker it's still hot from the pizza so i'm going to assume it won't need much in the way of a preheat and i'm gonna wake it up go over to airfry and keep that 450 and for cooking time i'm going to drop it on down to let's say i mean i don't think it'll need 20 minutes lower but we'll leave it at 20 minutes and we'll hit start with that and just going to bring you on back when these look like they're good and done all right so these ran through the preheat plus seven minutes so i'm gonna stop them right there but the preheat ran for longer than i expected i mean it was already hot in there but i guess it just wasn't hot enough before it's ambient probe and so it went through the full preheat cycle and so it's basically you know fries cooked through the preheat plus another seven minutes you can hear they're kind of crisp there you know these fries are pretty crisp and so um you know we just pick up one that you have a good look at it and i'm just going to blow on it and thank god for a fry and just do a quick taste of it try not to burn my mouth or anything with it just to check okay the fry is very crisp outside very soft and moist inside so it's a decent done fry i wouldn't have gone like five minutes with them i think we've been undercooked inside if i waited just five minutes but seven is fine and so the fries are done pretty fast because they were in there for the preheat too it seems like when you crank that airfry up to 450 you're up on that higher rack and you get all the heat you know from the top and the bottom and the back with the fan and with the fan i don't see a heating element necessarily on the fan or maybe there is i'm trying to get a look i'm going to take the rack out get a closer look all right so with the wreck out of the way i can say that from my looking around in there i don't see a heating element in there with the fan i see the fan and i don't see a heating element in the back so it's only the four heating elements i mentioned earlier and something else i wanted to mention about this cooker when it's done with the preheat it doesn't give you time to get a rack in or anything when it's done with preheating it just immediately goes right into the cook and so you just have to you know jump right into your cook and you know be ready to throw your stuff in there when the preheat's over so you know no pause no waiting for a preheat but you do have a light that stays on all the time when you're cooking and so i wanted to mention regarding cleaning the cooker all the parts are you know you're supposed to use like warm soapy water to wipe everything down but there are a few that are dishwasher safe and they say you can use put these in the dishwasher but they recommend hand washing them and those are the oven rack the pan the bake pan basically in that little rack that little broiling rack that comes with it they don't mention the airfry basket is one that they recommend putting in a dishwasher i have to say i've never used a cooker where there was a problem putting the airfryer basket in the dishwasher even though some they say don't put them in the dishwasher i personally do and usually get away with it i haven't had one yet where i had a problem putting the airfry bask in a dishwasher but i will say here again they say only put the pan the broiler roasting type of rack and the other rack into the dishwasher and not the airfry basket so let's talk about the warranty this cooker has a one-year warranty and so with that said basically the cooker you know it's a little smaller than some others it doesn't get up to temp as far as it probably should but all the same it was able to cook everything effectively i mean it cooks a pizza you know in about an average amount of time to cook a pizza it was able to air fry the fries really good and without a lot of time even though you know things did get the whole pre-heat treatment and things were already warm when i stuck the fries in but still not a lot of time to get those fries done it was a good bit of fries toast you know toast things fully on both sides so the cooker works effectively and it does you know basically what they set out for it to do and so i'm going to continue trying to use it out we'll try it out use it and you know probably lord willing to do more videos with it but continue working with this cooker for a bit and you know i think it's pretty cool anyway though you know it's all up to you as far as what you think about the cooker and your thoughts i'm not going to be saying anything about you know how well it cooks compared to this or that until after i've gotten my 30 day review out on it and then my 30 day review that's what i will present how i feel it compares to anything else i won't be doing any other statements on its performance before that time other than in the cook videos themselves and so with all of that said in the video description you can find a link to my cookbook that definitely helps the channel if you get that also i'll put in a referral link for this cooker you pay the same price help this channel also you can find recipes on my blog super weightliftingrecipes.com and if you like this video and
