(laughing) I love you. - Did you bring some food today? - I did bring some food for you to try. - Wait do you know what that-- - Wait! Close your eyes, she's coming out! - I already know what it is. You close your eyes. (laughing) - Okay Mackenzie, you can open your eyes. - [Mackenzie] What is all this? - Pierogi. - Pierogi. - There you go. And over here, stuffed cabbage or Golumpki. - Woo. - What is this? - Is it squid? - Yes. - Yes! (laughing) - [Grandmom] This is an Adobo squid. You normally eat the fried one. - Mhm, I normally eat the fried one. - You're learning now what Papa liked when he was a kid. Now I'm gonna squeeze the peanut butter and you take the banana. You put 'em all on here like that. - [Both] Cheers! - Your pieces are falling off. (laughing) - [Austin] Hmm. - There you go. (Tommy chuckling) - Isn't that good? (Austin burping) - Ooh! - Excuse me. - Did your mom teach you? - She taught me how to eat it. But I will tell you, she couldn't eat bananas. And I asked her well if you get sick from 'nanas, why don't I get sick? She said, I probably like bananas so much that the bananas like me too. - What happened when you were a little girl? - What happened? - Mhm. Like what's the first thing that comes to your mind right now? - Living in the Philippines where we always ate like seafood, fresh fish and oysters. - Fresh fish? - Mhm. - So my grandmother and my grandfather were born in Poland. - Am I Polish? - Part of you is Polish. - I think this part's Polish. (Paul chuckling) - I grew up and I lived in Shreveport, Louisiana. - Can we go there sometimes? - We can. - Wait! Did you have a carriage as a car? - Okay. - That's what old people do. - No. - That's what old people in the past. - No, we didn't have that. - Oh. - How were you when you moved here? - When I was like four and we went back to the Philippines because my mom had cancer. She wanted me to be close to her family before she passed away. - Was it hard to lose your mom at such a tiny age? - Yes. Imagine if your mom said, I'm not gonna see you again. Can you imagine that? - That's what she said? - No. (interviewer laughing) - How old are you? - Six. - The 1960s? - She's correct, it was 1962. - What were the '60s like? - Some people would say it's hard to remember the '60s. - Why? - There was wild music, a lot of other things that were pretty wild. We'll have that conversation over a beer someday. (laughing) - What was your favorite song? - Oh, that's easy. It was a song by Sam Cooke, Dancing the Night Away. And we would go all the way down to the ground. (laughing) Then we would turn all the way around. - This is tiring! (laughing) - What is your favorite memory when you were a girl? - My sister, my brother and I told stories. - What kind of stories? - Horror stories. - No! - So my brother was playing hide and seek and we were asking him, who are you playing with? And he said, I'm playing with Mom. Don't you see her? And my mom was already dead. - Is there anything you miss while being a kid? - Yes. - Mommy? - I miss my mother and father and my brothers and sisters. - Aw! - One day when you're older you're gonna miss them. Make sure that you create a lot of memories with your brother and sister. Spend a lot of time talking about what you did, how their day was, it really makes you closer. - Thank you Grandpa for coming. - You are very welcome and give me a hug. - We should have these more often. - Well then, you can ask your mom to cook it for you or you'll have to come on over and we'll cook it for you. - Sounds like a deal. - Sounds like a date. Okay. - I said a deal, not a date! (laughing)
