- [Child] Knock, knock - [Ventriloquist] Who's there - Interrupting cow - Interru--- - MOOO (screams) (gentle orchestral music) - Hi I'm Desmond. - Hi I'm Vicki, nice to meet you Desmond. - Nice to meet you too. - Why thank you. - What are we here to talk about? - Oh, about what I do for a living. Do you have any guesses of what I do? - Well looking at the box and that I was thinking a ventriloquist. - What? - How do you know about ventriloquism? - Well I watched America's Got Talent and I'm actually practicing. - Are you? - Yes. Do you have a figure that you use? - Ah Ha. - Hey, how ya doin? - Hey, how you doin? (laughter) - That's what I do. - That's your job? - That's my job. What's your job? - Cleaning my room. (laughter) - [Desmond] What's in the box? - Well I'll show you. - I'm curious. - Are you curious? - Yeah. - Okay. (laughs) What is that? You okay? (groans) I'm a contortionist. Why how ya doin? What's your name? - Ethan. - Ethan! Oh, and what's your name? - Wanna handshake? - Oh, yeah okay. Cool, nice to meet ya. - What's the puppet's name? - Well sir, I am Danny. So what are you doing here Austin? - We're talking about ventriloquists. - Do you know one? What! Ventriloquism is when somebody uses an inanimate object and I speak without moving my lips through the object. It's called ven-tril-o-qui-sm. That makes me a - [Group] ven-tril-o-quist. - -quist. - Yeah. - Are you Pinocchio? - No, I don't even know him. He had strings, I don't have strings you know. Well you kind of do. What? Yeah, wanna see? - Yeah - Okay. I'll show you right here. His head is on here, on this stick and there's a string right there and see my thumb goes right here or my finger, my finger does. - Can you make him open his mouth? - Oh, I go like this, oy. (laughing) - Can you talk without moving your lips? - Oh, Well this is what you wanted to do. You want to do it with me? Bite down on the back of you teeth like this. Just like that , yeah. And then you close your mouth a little bit like this. Just like that. And then you say, Hey how are you doing? - Hey how are you doing? - That's awesome! You did a good job. And then you go like this, Hey how are you doing? What's goin on? - How are you doin? what's goin on? - But don't move your lips. - Are these puppets expensive? - I don't think I have any that are under 450 but they can sometimes go up to, like, thousands and thousands of dollars. - I would be pretty creeped out if that was just laying with me and I didn't put it there. - I actually wrote it down in me book. - You did. - Where the dummies actually come to real life. - Well of course we do. - Did you bring any other puppets? - I did do you want to meet them? - What does that mean? - It mean's you gotta go bye-bye. - Oh man! - That looks painful. - He's used to this. Open your eyes. - Awww. - It's a cat. - Are you allergic to cats? - No. - Oh that's a good thing, we can talk. - Does your hand or mouth ever get tired? - My mouth doesn't get tired, but my hand. Oh yes, sometimes it gets very tired. Why? Oh, don't worry about it. (laughing) - Did you go to ventriloquist school? - Nope, but you know what? I went to different conventions and I asked a lot of other ventriloquists a lot of questions. - How many have you met? - Ventriloquists? I would say like, over 400. Right? - Do you have any more puppets? - I do. Do you want to meet them? - [Children] Yeah! - Okay, excellent. Close your eyes. Close your eyes. (screaming) What? - Are you a dragon? - I am a.... - Lizard. - Well yes, I am an iguana. So, am I handsome? - Yes. - Aww thank you. - Is Vicki nice to you? - Yes. (laughter) - That's not right. Yes (laughter) - Have you ever messed up in your performance? - I've messed up many times in different performances. But you know what you laugh and then you keep going. And then everybody laughs and they keep going with you. - Do you make a good living with that? - You can make a very good living doing that. - What's your go-to karaoke song? - You wanna hear it? - Yes. - Okay. (clears throat) ♪ Oh this road ♪ ♪ With many a winding turn ♪ ♪ But I'm strong ♪ (laughing) (clapping) oh thank you! Desmond I brought a puppet. If you want to handle one you could try it out. - Its a Basset Hound. (laughing) - There you go. - I wanna name him Sloppy. - All you have to do is put your arm - Over here. - Yeah, put your arm right under there. - Okay. - Can you feel his mouth? - Hi. What's your name? Excuse me, are you listening to me? I'm talking to you, don't you hear me? (growls) - Ahh, scary dog, scary dog. (screams) (laughter) - Sit. Sit. - Well that was good sit. Good job. - Thank you Vicki for teaching me more tips about ventriloquism. - Yeah, well you're awesome, and I expect to see you out there Crystal because you were really good. - Yeah. - Yeah. - You wanna say good-bye? - Ah yes I do. - Good-bye. - See ya later alligator!
