well right around house party three ninety three uh play ends up marrying uh sherry headley yeah who you know played lisa mcdowell coming to america yeah that ended up uh not working out two years later they got divorced yeah and then um play became a born-again christian um was that right around the same time yeah tumultuous thing that was happening well i i first of all play has always had a religion in his life okay you know his father was a pastor you know and was very very active in in the church back in the days when we were growing up so he always had had that influence and it was always interesting watching um play evolve and kind of grow up because he was always kind of torn it was almost like that marvin gaye thing where he's you know he was he he you know he did bad things or you know he did things against the church and but he felt really guilty about it you know and he tried to make amends and you know repent and what have you um that was a tough time for him when he was going through um his divorce you know they they met married and divorced in a very short period of time and um that also coincided with um things cooling on the kid in play tip and also he and i kind of kind of diverging you know not like you know go you no no nothing like that like like that but it was we were just kind of growing apart and it was just kind of a time we we felt like you know i wanted to do i wanted to do some different things i wanted to do some things on my own um so all those things were kind of convening but yeah he was um he was um he was definitely on the religious tip then and i think that i guess he found some um some solace in that and some some contentment in that because you know the professional and the personal lives were really kind of crashing at that time um and then that's about the time when i bounced and i left um i left for uh for la for a while i started messing with la more yeah and you know doing tv shows on my own and you know recording songs on my own and stuff like that um and like i said there wasn't any beef um and i think we always felt like um uh we'd know when it was time or if there was ever going to be a time when we would kind of uh get back together and and and kick it but yeah he was he he went through a tough time yeah well i've been the boy i've been divorced too it's it's like one of the toughest things that that you can go through yeah and then when when other factors are coming in you know what i'm saying you're a public figure yeah yeah yeah and then you know i remember reading about his divorce yeah and then yeah and then also too like i said kid and play with transitioning you know this is when the gangster raps start popping off so you know you know groups like us was looking we were looking corny you know we were just like you know what i mean groups like us and kwame and even uh you know will and jeff like we were we were you know what eminem used to say you cold product you know what i'm saying like i remember calling our manager bernie brillstein and i was yelling at him about something i was like yo why don't we we need to have this offer and we need to do this movie and we're going to do this and he just looked you know he looked he's on the phone with me and he's old school he was just like kid you're cold right now you're cold [Laughter] i'm like what i'm not cold kidding you're cold we gotta sit we gotta sit down for a little while and but he was right we we were cold we were cold and um so that's you know we each kind of went out in in the wilderness you know and i came out west
