hi i'm laura lee from krugman hey y'all this is mark from kringben hi i'm dj and this is what's in my bag [Music] i have all 45s today because they're the cutest of all the records um my first pick is billy preston houston legend and keyboard legend i worked at continental club here for years and literally i think every night somebody would come in with their houston billy preston story so he had to be on my list um this is called kick it or one side call kick it and the other side is called and dance so together let's kick it and dance which is why 45s are really cute it is an awesome dance 45 we even wrote 126 because it's 126 bpm and when it's that part of the night this is what you put on uh so if you look closely here there's a little green sticker on this record that has a 0.99 which means i got this record for 99 cents can you believe it it was in a dollar bin but this is houston area artist ronnie law is a legend here in town the album is called flame my favorite song on here is the first cut all for you and it features larry dunn on keyboards one of my favorite keyboards of all time uh famously played berkeley fire on all those records but really funky keyboard part great sex solo everything you want in the song funky record um so that's ryan wallace hubert laws say it was silence 1978 jazz punk masterpiece featuring members from the illustrious laws family um dj had the ronnie law's flame record just a moment ago this one is from his brother hubert and features the sisters eloise and deborah as well as johnny laws [Music] uh this is one of my favorite records not just for the title track which is kind of a space funk um classical disco odyssey draped in the velvety vocals and johnny laws but also because of the end of the night dance floor chiller that is love gets better that song itself is worth more than the price and admission which was three dollars my second kick the most houston song ever uh archie bell and the drells tighten up [Music] yeah i don't have anything to say about that one i just recorded here in houston texas at sugar hill studios um so awesome dude tight enough thank you that's what's in my bag next up bubba thomas and the lightman uh everybody knows who about thomas is in houston this is a jazz legend uh also one of my instructors from charlottesville's workshop gosjw this is a psych jazz borderline free jazz workout uh gets pretty out there um some really really cool stuff on here uh y'all are absolutely not ready for the tracks high pockets number 109 psychosomatic and luke 23 32-49 uh this is an out there record also this record here uh very special to the houston area in the gospel scene it's called i'll go by the southeast inspirational choir [Music] this choir still exists to this day there's still they just actually did a a reunion concert recently right before cohen of course but yeah they were founded in the early 80s they recorded this awesome record as they did many others and it features a an organist by the name of paul preacher who i'm a huge fan of carl preacher has his own signature sound on the b3 organ to where he plays the choir parts as the choir singing them and it's just in my head it's what i grew up thinking church sounded like you know in my head it was a beautiful thing so uh carl preachers on here a lot of other houston legends greg curtis who's now known more as a keyboard player and producer but he's playing drums on this record and uh yolanda adams famous gospel singer before she was famous she's singing the last cut called hallelujah a great record on jewel records recorded in houston texas that's what's in my bag hope you enjoy it next up man on the moon recorded live at mission control in houston texas that was the president of the united states richard m nixon talking to astronauts neil armstrong and edwin aldrin they were on the surface of the moon and it was sunrise there let's get cosmic with your host with the most roy neal and featuring performances from neil armstrong buzz aldrin and michael collins as they launch into their hits the eagle has landed and one small step day one uh it's out of this world and that's what's in my bag
