Kennywood’s Opening Day 2024

good morning everybody we are here in Mason Ohio for Kings Island oh I'm sorry no we are not not Kings Island where are we we're in West methin for Kennywood opening day but still reaping the Kings out here but yes it's Kenny Woods opening day we are here for our very first time well I should say Angie it's my first time first time I haven't been here in 14 years we're going to see what's new and improved like I said it's been over a decade and a half for me so I'm pretty sure there's going to be a lot that's different so let's head on in so yes we are in cywood soon as you walk in there's a look at the map and up here they got all the festivals they got going on bites and Pints start next month and we got the celebrate Pittsburgh which is new they Fourth of July celebrated America and then fall fantasy parades will start in August Phantom fall fist only know as Phantom Fright Nights starts in September and then Holiday Lights start in November so kenyawood does have a fast lane lightning Lane style program called Speedy pass and they have four different types to choose from but as soon as you go underneath the road here and cross into the park they got the kiosk right here it's Kenny the kangaroo [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] this way [Applause] [Music] [Applause] H guys they're filming for the news today they're getting ready to feature a [Music] [Applause] kangaroo so the first ride of the day is going to be on on the 104y old Jack Rabbit built in 1920 just like all the classic Kennywood wooden Co coasters uses the terrain for most of his structure now before the entrance was back there but now it's over here next to the arcade and long long time ago they did not have this entrance sign here so you would literally walk right by it and not even know that that was the entrance for the [Applause] ride so one of the things that's new for this year is the completely reded Arrow 360 tore down to the Bare Bones rebuilt it but they're still trying to do more programming on it so it is not operational for right now it will be next weekend the major announcement for this year is that Steel Curtain here part of Steelers country is going to be standing but not operating due to the fact it has tremendous amount of downtime but that's what you get when you get something from SNS so they figured out what is wrong with it got a hold of companies as you can see equipment is in and they're going to spend all this year trying to get more reliable you even got this little notice sta to increase ride reliability and Longevity it's going to undergo extensive modifications this year so we shall see if they can get this coaster back up and running I do have to admit it is an impressive structure so one of these days they can get a Rel which they're hoping for next year that we'll come back down here and actually get to ride this thing there's Kenny everybody come to get some food yeah going to the oo wooo we're back here at the only spot that's open here in Steeler country Zone Cafe cuz for today and next Saturday passs can get the all you can eat buffet for only [Applause] [Music] $20 all right Angie's in line getting her food just want to show you the first part cuz this is all you can eat I got some little Burger cider because Ken kangaroo has tiny hands so you can hold a big burger some Ma and cheese potato fries put some Neal cheese on it and I got some chicken tenders they do have a drink station with bottomless Pepsi products all right folks we just got done having Kenny's all you keny birthday buffet here at the endzone Cafe uh for opening day and next Saturday it is $20 for pass holders that's right non pass holders it is 26 so you save a little bit which always helps out definitely what did you think of the spread Oh I thought it was good um they had let's see had hot dogs yeah hot dogs little Burger sliders SL Burgers P Pork yeah uh mac and cheese yeah um potato wedges potato wedges they had cheese and bacon to put over the potato wedges or if you have smart like me you can put bacon on your Mac and Cheese also had some pizza dip and they also had macaroni and cheese you can make your own tossed salad and then at the very end they had um deli sandwiches wraps and then all you could drink Pepsi product since they have Pepsi here and they had some pink lemonade over there it was really good I tried that and they also had desserts so they had cookies a birthday cake for Kenny and some ice cream and vanilla and chocolate pudding so yeah with the whole all you can eat which for today and next Saturday it's 1 to 6 uh do you think it was worth the $20 definitely yeah I mean you can eat till you're stuffed in there so literally yeah so but now it's time to venture on for the rest of the park [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] w [Music] [Music] [Music] all right now that our food has set home we decided to try our look at the gwood estate which they have now turning into a dark ride shooting game that's right kind of like boob blasters at King's Island that's what I said boo blasters uhhuh so we're going to try look to see which one of us gets the higher score I don't know if it keeps score does it keep score oh I'm pretty sure it keep I don't know we'll find find out yeah a few moments later all right so we just got done with the ghostwood Estates and it does keep track of your score it does yes so you out her on row she was two gun in it I just went with a single gun and what was your total well left hand only got 90 so right hand got 500 so 590 total but 700 with only one gun he beat me so yeah yeah I don't think mine was working right cry about it we're inside a dry station by the way so that's time to V dra on for some other things yeah [Applause] [Music] also new for 2024 is Jeter Pub which is sponsored by pen Brewery have 12 draft beers six of them are on to for pen Bruce or locally own is what they have far to eat chicken wings pretzels a shaky board a/4 PB cookie also there's the prices for the craft beers they even have a flight you even get a sub refill cup and then you want to have frozen ones you can get a frozen drink flight Margarita P CLA Zachary and lemonade so here's the longest line in the to day that does not involve a ride and that is at the patch where you can get your basket of fresh CU fries but now they took a lot of the toppings away that you could get so it's either plain fries fries with cheese or bacon cheddar fries so things to change in over 14 years yeah also returning this year freshly redone from the ground up is the old Turtle ride another one of the park classic rides that you really can't find at any other Park they stri down to the Bare Bones now it should have a very very longevity and very good shelf life now [Music] AR [Applause] oh [Applause] [Applause] [Music] I guess it wouldn't be a trip to Western PA without having a Perman Brothers oh yeah in the park my favorite yeah give me two Pittsburg to go sounds like a plan Well Angie what have you decided on for our last meal in the park today well uh we walked past forb brothers and I couldn't reach exist a pittsburger because when in Pittsburgh one must have a pittsburger that's just my opinion so so we got the famous white bread the fries the sloth the meat and the Tomato that's right I can't resist I'm sorry is their number two favorite it's my number one favorite from them what's the number one I forget but it's always says they're number two in the menu well it's number one in my heart so another new thing for the 2024 season during the winter they had an act campaign going on to rename the bumper car rides and they came up with potato smash because it's a Potato Patch but as you can see they are still using the old bumper cars right now because they need a little bit more time to cook so they're not in yet like I said they're still using the old ones but in time that's what the cars will look like especially on the hood finally we're going to check out the carousel bird company which in this building here hous the original Carousel which is now right there but they've turned it into an indoor restaurant so let's go check out to see what's inside so we have a look at the menu here cheeseburger baked cheeseburger double bacon cheeseburger barbecue bacon cheeseburger oo and grilled chicken sandwich chicken tenders with fries do chocolate vanilla strawberry and oh Oreos and cream milkshake yes fountain drink s water got fries cheese fries and bacon cheese fries for like a little appetizer but then Carousel shakes Whimsical strawberry swirl with whirling Oreo Delight oo that sounds good but here's something upon entering there's no place that actually takes your order other than these machines here and then you pay with your credit card they have started the process of putting some older carousel horses in the building we got one right there we have one right there and there's still some more spots for even more to appear [Applause] [Applause] all right folks that's going to do it from keny Woods opening day here for 2024 what did you think of your first trip to Kennywood I like this park very much it's really really cute uh very nostalgic it has you know classic rides that are historical it has newer rides that people who like modern rides will appreciate I I like it I would recommend it um obviously we could address the elephant in the room you know their biggest coaster is not running this season we can get that off yeah still C out of the way SBN standing but not operating correct this whole season while they work on The Kinks you have a lot to work on since it's so problematic yeah but all the other rides have been up running yeah unfortunately we could not ride well I should say I couldn't ride Fant Revenge because as I was getting ready to ride it he went down it did and then they switch from two trains to one train and it's just it's opening day so they have a lot to get through with their operations and that yeah but we have all season so mhm right because decid to upgrade our day ticket to season passes that's right so
