Man, there are some ideas in Language and Mind that set my hair on fire. Like there are certain pathways within our brains that exist even before we start learning a language -- and when we start to pick up words, we already have some of these "concepts" in our brain, and simply file those new concepts into their logical places regardless of what language we are learning.
It is interesting to see, as a total non-academic non-linguist myself, the ways in which his linguistics study intersects with his political viewpoint. Each human is equally endowed with a natural tendency towards creativity and a natural tendency towards mutual cooperation, but the power systems in place undermine our natural free thought. No wonder he is an anarchist, and no wonder the idea of authoritarian structure makes him so indignant.
