This doesn't meet the requirements for an anniversary post but we caught it late so we left it up. Please no one use this as an example in the future for why your rule breaking post shouldn't have been removed.
This song and video (especially the gay kiss) made me feel ok to be gay. And I think it felt a bit more accessible than other songs at the time.
Lady Gaga was too gay, but Katy Perry was hot and straight men loved her. Itβs like Katy Perry was a double agent for the gays and got support from the republicans solely because of her looks.
Idk what it was, but Firework, We R Who We R, Born This Way, and Raise Your Glass/Fuckinβ Perfect by P!nk all made me gay in 6th grade, I just know it.
I think this song was a huge part in giving me courage to come out and helped to make me believe in myself.
Do you ever feel... like a plastic bag
This came out at the peak of when the It Gets Better campaign was really heating up... and I remember being in the throes of depression with my own life, and also hearing and reading about all these young closeted kids killing themselves due to bullying and just hating their lives and seeing no light at the end of the tunnel.... and watching the lyric video to Firework, I remember just crying and really just feeling everything... and
This was it for me.
Prior to this, I was meh about KP. Like TD & CG were alright, but it didn't grab me.
I'm always surprised at myself when a song really inspires, moves or just touches me, and this was realy one of those times
Firework made me firmly a Katy fan and I finally checked out the album, and I was actually surprised at how great of a pop collection it was.
The way this song made me feel less weird for liking dickπ. Thank u miss katy
Jesus christ, 10 years already... the thing with a lot of Katys older outputs is that they are kinda timeless to me, meaning I can't put exactly when they were released because they always sound fun, fresh and current. I wouldn't call Firework a classic but definitly a song that was and will be there for a long time without losing it's magic.
One of the best and most recognizable pop songs of our time
Just one word for this: iconic!
One of my favorite songs off TD, this was also one of the very first music videos I had watched and I remember being blown away by it (and Katy in her simple yet elegant costume), also adding the firework coming out of the chest was a nice touch to make the video more beautiful.
The song itself is super euphoric and ughh I've gone soooo many times singing the verses in a super low voice and then going up and up in the pre-chorus and the screaming badly at the top of my lungs for the chorus (and probably torturing my poor neighbors) before feeling like a plastic bag again. Anyway, she really sounds great in this, and shows off her range perfectly without coming off as "scream-y"
Happy Birthday Firework!
