[Music] I discovered itching and lithography in college where I earned a BFA degree in printmaking I lived in Manhattan for 18 years then moved to Woodstock where I was introduced to linoleum block prints which have been my passion and professional focus ever since I enjoy the graphic quality of the medium which lends itself so well to the dramatic contrasts and angular shapes of the city my primary subject I especially enjoy the challenges of the black-and-white print using extreme lights darks and varying textures to bring an image to life without the dazzle of color I also enjoy the physicality and discipline of carving reminding me daily of the hard work and patience it takes to accomplish most anything meaningful in addition to the cityscapes I sketch entirely from life there are those I invent completely and those that are a combination of the two sometimes the buildings are the main characters which I strive to imbue with as much personality as the two and four-legged creatures that populate many of my images in focusing on city dwellers living their daily lives and giving life to its architecture I aim to portray the city as positive accessible and beautiful even playful and yet inadvertently I seem to convey a sense of mystery which at times makes it a challenge to differentiate between whimsy and foreboding the city is all of these things at once which is why it inspires me and is the focus of my work I have been told that my prints evoke a sense of the city that cannot be captured by taking a photograph and is difficult to put into words but was good and uplifting to recall which is what motivates me to do this work printmaking is my expression of love and connection which keeps me at peace with the world something I hope enjoyers of my work will experience as well [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Bax little anything here you
