Kansas City Chiefs vs New Orleans Saints FULL GAME August 13, 2023 | NFL Preseason 2023 Week 1

I know it's just a preseason game here today but we're going to learn a lot about the depth of our Squad here this afternoon guys all right thank you Kimmy thank you Matt there is Patrick Mahomes the youngest player ever to win both NFL MVP and a Super Bowl title seems like he's done it all and this man has truly done it all head coach Andy Reid 11th season with the chief Kingdom it's changed in the history of the NFL plenty of Legacy with this group so here we go it is a short kick fielded at around the 15-yard line a flag comes in a couple of flags come in the Saints goal for the moment start at the 35 but we'll see what the flags are all about [Applause] optimistically excited when he does come back to join this Elite defense but Chris Jones not with the team here in New Orleans there's coach Steve Spagnola who's done an amazing job with this defense it's a complicated defense all these guys have had more time in this system so expectations are high for the Chiefs defense they keep it on the ground and it'll be down to get it close to Midfield Brian Cook With The Tackle foreign Johnson made the catch for the Saints well you mention the speed on defense that fab five those the five rookies from a year ago are now all second year guys but there's a lot of speed in the secondary Patrick Mahomes sure anxious to get out there well one of those second year guys George Karloff you're part of that defensive line third down car to throw completes it the first down it's Justin Reed in coverage with the tackle on Juwan Johnson [Applause] orient's preseason for everybody as you heard the uh the Superdome audio here go ahead and start blaring music right as the Saints are about to stamp the football all right keeps the face Derek Carr quite a few times over the years he this is his first year with the Saints after being with the Raiders his entire career that time able to avoid the rush and step up and get the first down first and 10 for the Saints or we dump it in the flat Kamara defended pretty nicely by the Chiefs and one guy he's an important player there's your willy gay he had a good season last year they wanted him hopefully to stay healthy for a whole season he gives him a lot of speed at the linebacker position and this is the players to watch you can see and you DK uzama the the rookie drafted in the first round out of Kansas City and out of Kansas State Nick Jones a seventh round pick has really stood out in Camp he's played really well and then Drew twink tranquil coming over from the Chargers looking to make an impact on the defensive side of the ball those are the players to watch brought to you by T-Mobile offense number 72 five-yard penalty second down five yards but tranquil could play all three linebacker spots gives them a ton of Versatility the level is coach Staggs looking on he wants to make sure everybody's gonna get some time this afternoon second and 11. car with time [Applause] Trent McDuffie in coverage for the Chiefs foreign coming with the blitz up the middle that leaves a void in the middle of the field and you can see the Saints and Derek Carr take advantage of that with that vacated player coming on the blitz first to ten they keep it on the ground that's well defended by the Chiefs see why is one of the guys in there so many who also in there the free agent from the 49ers he was productive last year for the 49ers that he will miss the first six games this season but when he's available he's a guy who can have an impact on the defensive front well that's what they're found on that was the reason why they signed him over from from the 49ers and of course the NFL handing down the six game suspension so he's gonna get some time here in the preseason and then the Chiefs will have to beat without him for a while they set up the screen cameras going to be out at the five yard line it's going to be first and goal for the Saints oh the Chiefs once again spags bringing a blitz in the preseason not staying vanilla but bringing that Blitz and able to get that screen to the outside all the pressure coming in the flow coming in on the outside you get the screen to the outside get out in space timely call by the Saints 17 yards on the play first and goal all just inside the five yard line surrender [Music] complete at his terrific job fair by Joshua Williams again now wearing number two but he's got great size and length at the corner position well that's going to come in handy down in the Red Zone when you're throwing those jump ball type of passes starting to get Michael Thomas involved and Williams right there contesting that ball and not allowing an easy kiss and a goal our look to throw pump fake back to the middle of the field that's caught touchdown Saints Keith Kirkwood with the touchdown [Music] will Lutz will be on for the extra point Patrick Mahomes getting warmed up I'm gonna look at him in the offense coming up here shortly the extra point is on the way and it is good so the Saints opening drive and in a touchdown when we come back to New Orleans that guy is going to work Patrick Mahomes to the chief's offense coming up next [Music] regular season and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes we've been told he's going to play a quarter I think we both think he goes out there plays well they score a touchdown that'll probably be it for 15 but we'll see generic Prince is back deep did Aaron Prince is a name you're going to hear a lot about it's an undrafted guy out of Tulsa has made such a splash at training camp most people think he's already a lot to make the roster and this is one of the key areas he can help the team is in the kick return game well the the running back position is loaded right now the Chiefs have a lot of depth in that position uh he has made an impact Prince definitely has how it all shakes out through the course of these preseason games and the rest of the training camps he's really made a stamp and made people take notice good size and speed six feet 216 pounds and there's really been a buzz about generic Prince just like there was a buzz last year right with Pacheco exactly that guy was Pacheco his seventh rounder and this guy undrafted GM Brett Beach knows how to find Talent so it will be Prince from his own five-yard line across the 20. he bulldoze he's up to the 25-yard line and that's where the chief will start out on offense there is number 15 Patrick Mahomes now in his seventh year his sixth year as the starter for the Chiefs he has gotten off to a better start than any quarterback in the history of the National Football League see if he picks up right where he left off at the end of Super Bowl 57. well like you said Ari I I know they say the first quarter but as in previous preseasons they go down and have some success here on the first drive that may be enough of the same parts of my hometown Clyde Edward de Lair gets the start on the screen had the great High School career of course what a natural Championship with LSU so excited for him to be home he's got a lot of friends and family here at the game today and he gets to start at running backs we're trying to get the Saints on that first down with the screen getting to the outside and doing a pretty good job of containing it as they they only picked up a couple yards Mahomes to throw it checks it actually that's a first down for the Chiefs as Clyde makes the catch and out of bounds gain of 13 on the play well it's not shocking that Andy's trying to get the ball in the hands of Clyde Edward zalera as you mentioned from the area and playing at LSU it's it's nice to see the first couple touches of the game go his Direction but remember he was a first round pick and when he's been healthy really productive the key for him is availability this season First and Ten keep it on the ground gets it up to the What's called the 42-yard line gain of four on the play so the offensive players to watch we're going to take a look at Justin Ross he's been the buzz of training camp with wide receivers and their prince we just talked about Ari and what he's the job that he's doing Richie James is Jared McKinnon in the game for the first time third down for the Chiefs Mahomes gonna step up in the pocket he's going to take off and pick up the first down boy he's going to be very close is a Markham where you start the slide well it's where the ball is when you start the slide and even though he ended up at the 50-yard line the officials are saying as he began his slide as we take a look here we'll be able to look right down the line there so when he starts the slide where the ball is seems to be a pretty fair spot maybe a little bit closer to the 49 I would think but uh that's where they decided to do it they call it time out or maybe they're going to do a measurement or a challenge here [Applause] currently markets be fourth and one but they are going to measure so the Chiefs know exactly what they'll need to pick up a first down well we all remember from a year ago the Philadelphia Eagles and what they did on short yardage where they would just push everybody in a big pile and Shove It Forward that win before the rules committee and it wasn't overturned it's still a legal play this year so that was not overturned by the rules committee although I can tell you the Chiefs have not run a quarterback sneak since my homes got hurt back in his first year as a starter so I do not anticipate the Chiefs all of a sudden deciding to to let Patrick QB sneaking so I'm with you I think the one play I don't think we're gonna see here is the quarterback I think it would shock everybody in the building all right he's hitting the shotgun fourth and less than a yard McKinnon to his right they gave it to the up man there let's see that one's really close it doesn't appear they got the first down well they've done that abundance that Blake Bell that was in motion played quarterback in college they used that play the last couple of Seasons where he goes in motion gets underneath Center snap and tries to pick up the first down they're going to do another measurement here it looks like he didn't get it on the initial push it was the extra effort it was the extra effort that looked like he or at least gave him a chance to pick it up moments ago we actually saw former Chief Colin Saunders talking to Patrick Mahomes first time they're on opposite sides of things and Saunders ending up here with the Saints teams do not pick up the first down and it'll be Saints football look at Saunders is happy going up against his old team look at him he's got his arms up I'm sure he was saying I told you guys I told you keep an eye on the guy in motion so a little which allows a gap there in the middle of the field with the linebackers coming up on the Run fake right now the Chiefs defense has to after that turnover on Downs backs against the wall to try and coordinator trying to come up with something here to get the Saints off of their rhythm Williams the ball carrier ooh that's George Carlock is in there 56 and finally brings him down carloft has had a strong rookie campaign last season he seemed to be a great fit came up with a bunch of plays including six sacks during the regular season and he popped in our first preseason game last year in Chicago he hit a sack in the first half and it seemed he looked real comfortable on the NFL field quite quickly he did very comfortable a year ago and talking about some of the work he did with uh former outside linebacker defensive end Tom bahali from the Chiefs working on hand work and footwork Wednesday going deep it's cut before the same let's see they may Mark him let's see where the ball came down it was A.T Perry who made the catch I thought when he when he put into the turf yeah it was on the goal line so it is a touchdown for the Saints well there's a couple of things you have to end because it's a touchdown it's going to be reviewed was he touched by the Defenders so when he went down that's where it was down where was the ball when his knee went down if he wasn't touched by the defender so it looks like the ball is extended it's actually his forearm that's down it's down before he extends so he's not touched forearm down the ball comes out when it hits the ground but it go two for two for 15 yards he didn't take his first hit though he said that's what he likes about the preseason get to get that first hit good news is a little tap on the slide you know he sliding that little and franks is going to be stopped at the 12 yard line flag comes in at the end of the play and I'm gonna agree with him I always wanted to get hit a little bit in the preseason not a lot believe me I don't get a lot but you want a little bit just because you've gone however many months with not getting hit and just getting acclimated to standing in the pocket and getting bounced around a little bit it's always good to get uh just a little bit in the preseason during the return illegal Block in the back receiving team number 49 half the distance to the goal first down all Chiefs but at Tulane yes excellent point outside Lane gabbard in there he's the new backup quarterback last three seasons he's a backup for Tom Brady with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to throw and he completes it out in the flat they get it to the 10-yard line where she writes the second round pick out of SMU makes the catch he's had a very nice camp [Music] fast receiver on SMU as you said in the second round coming in he's made a splash so far in the off-season practices and and in training camp he and Justin Ross both have have stood out as a couple of young guys that uh trying to make an impact [Applause] so far at the running back position 12th year in the NFL former first round pick out of Jacksonville to the Jacksonville Jaguars bounced around the league a little bit but Andy Reid likes veteran quarterbacks at the backup position and Shane Boucher coming into his third year is going to get an opportunity as well to be the backup or be the third but Andy Reid really likes the veteran guys as he's had in Henning the last five seasons really delivered when needed third down gabbard the throw and it's incomplete he was looking for Noah Gray he forced the punt [Music] well and Gray's another guy as a coaching staff has talked to us about that has really stood out in this camp and is playing really well in training camp he's a guy that used in special teams but also being that guy that's taking the next step giving them more options after Travis Kelsey when Travis Kelsey had such nice things to say about Noel Graham and he just thinks that Noah's going to have a breakout season his role increased last year he had 28 catches Tommy Townsend coming off the best season of his career really high boot not a particularly long one but it's going to go out of bounds in Chief's territory at the 47-yard line 34 yards on the punt no yards on the return for Chiefs football coming up picking it up took that little tap out a little town he got a little contact in with all he's done on the field just blown away by how he's managed all the successes you know people will talk enough about how do you handle success and he's handled it perfectly he really has and obviously throwing up her own personal Sports his whole life and now in his sixth season as a starter and a tremendous amount of success he's had in those five years as a starter spreadable all right Connor 119th overall pick fourth round pick from the homes just doesn't ever seem overwhelmed by any situation we saw his competitive fire if you had the chance to watch Netflix quarterback it was great to get some more behind the scenes of what he goes through to prepare highly recommend you watch me you haven't seen I'm sure a lot of two states probably watched it multiple times already well it's the preparation that you go through not everybody knows the mental part of it right that you're you're studying film and studying plays and getting yourself ready but the physical part of it from a rehab standpoint and then from a workout standpoint trying to get yourself ready week in and week out for an entire season [Music] so the highest team points per game by assorting quarterbacks going back all the way back to 1950 Patrick Mahomes the lone quarterback his team averaging more than 30 points per game keep it on the ground with Jamal Williams on the play and those two they're not just awesome on the field together they've developed a really incredible Bond great friends all right I got a kick out of yesterday I was asking Travis what were you going to say at the White House in the former homeless and he said well I may get another shot next year so we'll see Travis addressing the nation a couple of yards on the play through tranquil in on that play they've had quite the off-season obviously as we see tranquil stepping up Winston's gonna take off and run and he picks up a Saints first down as he gets near the 20-yard line oh yeah [Applause] Winston recognizing on Third and short no need to try and force it in just go pick up the first down on the bootleg get into the outside First and Ten for the Saints keep it on the ground and Ray Miller the ball here called two and a half yards but a flag on the play holding offense number 73 10-yard penalty replay first down that goes against Max Garcia that'll back the Saints up let's see if so many on this Chief defense could make a play give this team a spark yeah long opening drive by the Saints and then great field position on their next two possessions as you said something for the defense need to try and make a big player or stop or get a turnover get the ball going in the other direction first and 20. 6th and um we've already sold a bunch of frogs I will challenge our uh our kingdom that uh last time we had a Super Bowl flag we raised over a million dollars in one day for our friends at Ronald McDonald House so hopefully we'll beat that this year that's awesome all right the ball carrier gets to about this 17 yard line well let's first take a look back because last year you had an amazing season and this year you get to kick off the season again in your home how does it feel to be the Marquee team in the National Football League it's uh always humbling you know it's exciting first and foremost but it's also humbling and just you know the opportunity to do this all again and our fans have been amazing and you saw it there with the video from Red Friday last year it'll be really exciting to get back out in Kansas City on Wednesday morning and get ready for the Thursday night kickoff to the NFL season well in not only defending Super Bowl champions there's a lot going on around Arrowhead as well the off season has been packed at Arrowhead whether you're talking about Luke Combs you got Billy Joel coming up we got Beyonce coming up Taylor Swift can't forget about Taylor Swift in there so uh yeah some big concerts that uh that were at Arrowhead and more to come yeah it's been a crazy schedule and uh our staff deserves a lot of credit for getting us through just an amazing run of events um [Applause] we didn't get enough cavity will you stick around we are going to have more with Team president Mark Donovan when we return to New Orleans [Music] an amazing job I mean think about the year we had right we host a record AFC Championship game again then we have a Super Bowl then we have a Super Bowl parade and then we have the NFL draft which set a new bar for the NFL drafts in my opinion then we go into our summer um with Luke Combs and Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran and Beyonce coming Ed Billy Joel this weekend it's uh it's been non-stop but it's it's one of the reasons that Arrowhead is so special and why it's so important to our community that we can host these types of events and bring the economic impact that it's had and a huge economic impact is going to happen when the World Cup comes to Kansas City in the middle of all those events we're in the middle of planning a World Cup in 26 yeah all right the shades to kick it off and sunny from the Giants had a very productive season and a solid return as the Chiefs will start out just outside of their 25-yard line will speaking of venues go on the talk around Kansas City about the stadium give us the latest yeah so I've been saying all summer long the last couple years we've got three good options on the table I think the one thing that I'd like to really Express to our fans is like we're in the middle of it so we see everything the options we have are really exciting so you think about upgrading and renovating Arrowhead the things we've seen and things we're going to do to this Stadium are amazing I mean think about a dome option that's amazing as well so we're going to take our time we're gonna go through the process we've been through and we're gonna get it ready and is there a timeline I know I know what the World Cup coming is going to have to be some adjustments to accommodate the World Cup but is there a timeline that yeah it's a tricky question so timeline infected by a couple things one is the Royals obviously what they do and we're working very closely with them but it impacts us and then secondly the World Cup you know we've got to do a 50 million 40 million dollars of renovations to the stadium as it is to get ready for 26. and then our leases through 31 so after that you got to put it back together and then do another renovation so all of that factors into what we're trying to do but we're like I said we're so excited about the things we've got coming it's going to be really really cool second and ten for the Chiefs Tavern in the shotgun [Music] I believe that's right it is right right second catch [Music] the plate so it's gonna bring up third down the thing you can't really dispute is the experience that fans have when they come to Arrowhead whether it be the parking lot experience the moving inside the stadium it's just something the Chiefs fans love Chief's Kingdom loves you know you've got family day coming up which is the chief security game coming out talk to us a little bit about yeah so because we only have one preseason game at home this year we decided to make it a little bit more family oriented so we're really encouraging our young Chiefs king of family and the king and crew to come out we've got a lot of things special things planned gabbard hit on the throw it's incomplete so it's going to be a three and out for the Chiefs and we're just fired up to do it do what we do really really well at Arrowhead and do it in a way that families can really enjoy it the response from the younger generation of fans from three years old to 18 years old has been really amazing with the players we have in the field and now we're finding finding new ways for them to activate and be a part of this we know we're going to lose you so one last thing we want to talk about the game enjoy Germany and the relationship between the Chiefs in Germany it seems like it's off to a great start it's amazing you know we we targeted Germany early on we've been really aggressive um boy that's a really good Punk nothing with a boomer on the return he falls forward to the 21-yard line it literally happens every time I'm with you guys I start calling place so yeah Germany's gonna be amazing the response has been amazing November 5th is going to be something that you want to be there at least witness and the growth of our brand and our team and the superstars we have in Germany has been unprecedented so we're excited about that well we appreciate you stopping by always a pleasure to talk with you and we wish you player back during rookie mini camp he was one of 50 tryout players clearly earned the attention of this coaching staff and now he's getting a shot here with the Chiefs Matt love those kind of stories it's so easy to root for a guy like that all those guys were there for the tryout Andy Reid the status of this guy's got a chance and he is making the most of his opportunities um coach Reed was saying he'd like to see him put on a few pounds just 177 pounds well and with the with the off-season schedule with the training camp schedule in terms of practices and pattern practices but one fewer preseason games it's harder and harder for guys like that to get notes because you're trying to get as many reps as you can and try and get on the radar and uh so making an impact with today's condensed schedule is uh really stands out and here he is in coverage gets just enough Betty Perry to bring him down First and Ten for the Saints yards on the play and one thing I wanted to tag our interview with Team president Mark Don but we want to make sure to say hello to the viewers watching in Germany on rtl's Nitro Channel and on Fox Sports in Mexico the international audience continues to expand Chief Kingdom continues to expand Mark has been instrumental in love the international stuff and how about the fact that the ticket sales against the Dolphins over in Germany there's 60 000 seats available 1.2 million people applied for those 60 000 seats that's phenomenal support and it's just getting started it's amazing I had the privilege of calling NFL Europe games for five years I can tell you Trent they know how to tailgate they would fit in in Kansas City quite well in Germany that time the teeth with good pressure on Winston he has to get rid of the ball earlier than he wants to causing an errant throw setting up a third long Winston and that's Connor coming in the rookie from Virginia Tech takes Winston down to the turf and that's just the stop if the Chiefs needed bottom of your screen to double Blitz they can only pick up one [Music] Richie James waiting at the Chiefs 20-yard line he's pretty Dynamic with the ball in his hands he won't get a chance here he's around Tom Brady being around that offense we asked Patrick Mahomes yesterday just some of the maybe some of the Insight he's gotten from gabbard about uh about the way Tom does things and the way he conducts himself you're always trying to learn no matter if you're the MVP or not you're always trying to pick up ideas and [Applause] learn from different guys well they'll do a documentary many years from now on the great quarterbacks in the NFL and they're like yeah we got to talk to Blaine gabbard because he's in time with Brady and Tom with Mahomes gabardy former first round pick he was 10th overall in the 2011 Draft taken by the Jaguars first down for the Chiefs first and 15. Prince is in the ball game gabbard's going down the field he's got a man open and that is a big time play as they go down the field to Richie James who makes the catch so in Richie James one of those guys that we had at the beginning of the game and players to keep an eye on he's had an impact on special teams he's got a burst of speed as you can see as he works his way up the scene does a good job adjusting to the ball coming back to it securing the catch getting the Chiefs down inside the 15. all right see if they can keep it rolling down Chief's got something going on this drive First and Ten at the 12. the sure-handed Richie James comes up with the big play gabbard with time goes to the end zone and he misses his Target he was looking for James again [Music] well it's almost like a communication issue there it looks like James as he comes out of the route he flattens it and Gabbert throws in more to the back corner just on a little bit different page in terms of what the direction of that corner right was going to be missed opportunity second and ten gabbard gonna dump it off it's Noah gray and gray keeps working and grinds his way inside the one yard line where it'll be first to go after the 11 yard gain on the inside screen to the tight end [Music] a little slip screen to the inside we've seen Travis Kelsey do a number of times over the years and first just ended up about a yard short as much as Patrick Mahomes held his arms in the air trying to get it done it it's going to be first to go though we're able to pick up the first down in the game [Applause] wants to throw for it open receiver caught touchdown Chiefs it's Richie James getting the six [Applause] what a drive for Richie James he was the featured Target as the big play downfield yeah which finds him for the touchdown a couple of receivers to the left tight end to the right flash fake to keep everybody drawn inside a little rub route as an offensive guy he called a rubber out as a defensive I like that I like it doesn't offensive guy I'm saying it's a rope route get the confusion of the the man coverage laying it to the corner and James able to bring it in nice catch by James good drive there on a short field by the Chiefs to capitalize and get the touchdown Harrison butker on for the extra point attempt seventh year man out of Georgia Tech having a brilliant career he's come up with so many clutch kicks for the Chiefs in the postseason Townsend is the holder James Winchester the long time long snapper good snap good hole kick is on the way and it is down the middle so a terrific Drive Blaine gabbard finds Richie James and the Chiefs are on the board and James wide open Skies to make the catch it's got the touchdown because he was the star of the drive well it was excellent throw the big throw down the seam uh to James he was able to make an adjustment gabbard taking that that big chunk and then of course the inside screen to Noah gray that got it down through the one got first and goal down to the one yard line and then excellent play call causing some confusion there on the touchdown pass Saints confused with that with the rub route they were trying to pass it off you can see the one defensive back but threw his hands up in the air return [Applause] [Music] Perkins stays on his feet and gets to the 30-yard line 28 yards on the return so here's a replay of the touchdown watch the quick play fake that gets the defense to draw in on the inside it's one-on-one to the outside there's the guy with his hands up supposed to trade it off on that man coverage they did not get that communicated James with the great catch able to bring it in and finish it to the ground a couple of catches on that drive 44 yards and that touchdown you just saw on tape here we go First and Ten for the Saints [Music] who made the team last year he didn't make it out of the preseason but then was on the practice squad it ended up being a really important course special team member another great example of finding guys undressing guys who end up having an impact on the lobster well and that's not just his first play tonight he's been all over the field since he's been on been in this game and as you said made an impact on special teams a year ago that's one area talking to Dave toad that they're gonna have every year it's different because you have to change the wrestle there's so much flipping of the roster it's finding guys that can fill those gaps not only on the inside of the football but on special teams right there assistant head coach and special teams coordinator great working boy he and Andy Reed have been together for a long time lots of trust between those two and the Chiefs and teams every year will get some really key plays on special teams do you think back to the Super Bowl and the big punt returned late in the game which really changed the game and she's gone to Victory against the Eagles third and short Winston to throw hopeful that it was short but I believe they're going to give him the first down taysom hill made the catch so it's officially a first down Winston to throw that is caught at the 45-yard line Aces Harry with another catch well I think the Saints hurry it up on the ball and got that ball snapped quickly they didn't want to get the Chiefs an opportunity to maybe Replay that and see if it was indeed a first down so I thought he had the first down but I agree with you then you know situational football there it was smart for them to get up to the line of scrimmage second down on the ground it's Miller and Miller picks up a couple yards it'll bring up third and short let's see if the chief can get off the field here in fourth a punt you brought up the factory boy though earlier about you know not being the the biggest guy did you see him coming off the edge on that one there he was coming up and run support he had outside contained he did not back down at all just came off the edge forced the back back up inside where the tackle will happen but just a Fearless play Blitz is coming Winston side step one guy they completed I think it's just enough for another Saints first down Lynn bogey makes the catch [Applause] The Tackle eighth year man who played at Miami I think Bushman knocked him back and didn't have the first down then Kendo came up and cleaned up the pile and watch uh Winston able to avoid the sack gets the steps up watch Bush knocks him back but then Kendo pursuing actually I think ended up knocking him past the first down giving the Saints and who said to change a nice play coming up there by Mike Edwards he is a veteran safety played with the Bucks this guy could be a key part of the battle in defense offense number 64. 10-yard penalty let's stick with Edwards this is another guy when you have a limited amount of cap space and you're looking for free agents GM Brett Veach has gotta almost be perfect and Edwards is a guy who's been an impact player seven career picks three of them returned for touchdowns and there he shows he can come up and help and run support well I think that's the key that's going to be key for all these guys trying to make the rosters who's going to be willing to come up and and make tackles they want people to come up and and have those impact plays as many times as many different packages as spags uses with multiple safeties multiple linebackers bringing pressure bringing blitzes and then you carry that over to special teams you've got to have guys that are sure Danny Shelby gets the sack the Easter man how to watch it and he is a big man six to 345 pounds the thing that amazed me on that play was just his hand strength all he had was his foot and uh there was no letting go as he was able to spin around and get Winston to the ground and which is not an easy guy to bring it down big athletic quarterback we've seen many times where he just steps out of that and continues to play for a second he won the chief happy to let them get that completion far from the sticks Caleb halesey makes the tackle here what we just got through saying guys that aren't afraid to come up and make a tackle excellent job wrapping up late for the hilltoppers at Western Kentucky the past couple of scenes another undrafted guy all the time another short game for the Saints and it's Mike Edwards making another play he's flashed a couple of times he's chained to be forced to punch so good job there by the KC defense particularly Danny Shelton and Mike Edwards both having significant plays Amir Smith marcette is deep for the chief standing in his own 12-yard line you can do two-minute drills all you want in training camp but now the Chiefs are going to get an opportunity to do it right here at the end of the first half Nick marcette gets it to the 13-yard line from two minutes and 11 seconds to work with we got the two-minute warning coming up the Chiefs are gonna have all three timeouts right now they're trying to decide okay do we make them re-pun it looks like bouchelle is going to be the quarterback here to lead the two-minute drill but they may be uh with the ball down at what would be around the 15-yard career sometimes making decisions like that just floating one up in the middle of the field nine times out of ten that gets intercepted he's fortunate that didn't happen great job by the Chiefs defense responding to the interception and not only stopping them but pushing them back out of scoring position forcing this punt Pico romigio is deep inside his own 10-yard line for the Saints 49 seconds to go in the half [Applause] go and I believe if the Saints are going to die yes they are at about the three yard line takes too well there Gilligan's got to be pleased so Chiefs with the football 39 seconds to go to remember are they get the ball first coming out in the second half they do have all three timeouts but the fact that they're down at their own five yard line with 25 seconds to go makes me believe they're just going to run it out but that's why usually this first call will be a draw or screen and uh oh 39 seconds to go in the half and usually it's a drawer or screen to see if you can get some separation get some distance away from your goal line then get into it we'll see if that's what they decide to do here [Applause] Prince lined up in the end zone started slow and they started fast you can't do that against a good football team then I said coach what's the message to the guys in the locker room at halftime he goes well now it's time to go win the thing Chief Kingdom I like it Kimmy thank you very much for that well I think it's there's something about Coach reading the preseason some teams don't care whether you win or lose he cares if you play in the game you play to win and I expect an inspired effort from the Chiefs here in the second half well the thing is and that's really kind of hit since he's been here yep uh it doesn't matter who's in the game this is where we have a standard that we play at and that all begins in the off season with the roster that Brett beats is able to put together and then Andy and the veteran players was about okay this is the standard we've said here this is how we do things around here the work ethic we have and now it's opportunity for some young guys to get a chance here in the second half Smith marcette returns it to the 10-yard line that's where the Chiefs will start out their first offensive possession of the second half [Music] Shane bouchelle former SMU quarterback who shine brightly in the preseason last year got a little bit of time right there at the end of the half just one for two well you had the cost of the interception and that's the thing as a young as a Young quarterback as a young player when you get these opportunities sometimes trying to do too much right that would have been an opportunity to throw the ball away there with a nice completion good first down play nearly a first down but get the ball out of your hands quick get some Tempo get some rhythm going but uh going back to that interception it's just that's a Learning lesson right that's a Learning lesson of okay the pocket's collapsing around me I got the two minutes I got all my timeouts let's just yank it into the ground or throw it over their head out of bounds uh he tried forcing in there ball got tipped up and then and then unfortunately an interception the defense came in and responded and didn't give any points away to the Saints as they got a sack but a good way to start the second off half off and that's why you have to have a short memory if you're a quarterback who shell the throw and that is caught more than enough for the first down and Justin Ross his first catch and I know that Chief's kingdom is really excited about Ross he had the injury didn't play at all last year this guy's got great size 6'4 210 pounds out of Clemson size speed everything he's the top player coming out in high school he was top player in college then he had the neck injury and you know didn't really play much got a little bit of time there as last year and then free agent with the Chiefs came over missed last so he's got the talent it's a matter of staying healthy he's had a great training camp great off-season the size the speed is all there and he's made some spectacular one-handed catches that the fans have enjoyed enjoying training camps and on the first drive of this series it was Cornell Powell making the catch Alo former fifth round pick you guys getting the opportunities here the early part of the third quarter let's see if they can sustain the drive when there's spots to be filled at that wide receiver position last pre-season we were talking about losing Tyree kill and who was going to step up did you do Smith Schuster had a one-year deal he's gone now McCall Harden has been here for a few years he's gone now so there's a couple of spots there that are open on this depth chart see Rasheed rice there Frost Powell those guys are all fighting for roster spots and one of the things they've talked about is yet there may not be like a brand name true number one receiver but Mahomes just said we got great deaths we got seven or eight guys who can come in there and make plays well you got Marquez Valdez scandling who did it year so he's pretty solid for when it comes to as far as making the roster and being a starter Sky Moore really stepped up big towards the end of the year as his rookie year progressed he's come in and done a good job here in training camp and just trying to add depth and fill spots uh blue shell goes down and he's trying to find a little bit of extra time he ends up taking the sack [Music] Zach Bond comes up with the sack on third down Atomic Townsend is on the punt Townsend coming off just an incredible season selected for the Pro Bowl the beauty is you want to be selected and never play because you're too things uh now yesterday when we sat down and talked to you right when you landed here in New Orleans he said I'm excited to get back in this game environment and I asked you you know candidly about your tackles right and Donovan and Juwan and you said the guys think I'm nice and I'm fun and training camp on a pretty smiley in practice but when I get in that live game environment I'm Different how do you think they handled you today although they did well uh I was a little pumped up at halftime there we got to bring the energy up on the sideline um but I think the guy's responding well I mean obviously there's mistakes but guys are learning from it and I'm excited for these guys in the second half all right now right behind us in this camera there is a whole mass of red a cheese King does fans waving you have signs obviously your jersey out here in the crowd how cool is it to see Chief's Kingdom travel with you guys on the road even during the preseason it's the best I set it at football with almost 113 receiving yards per game ended up the second team All-American Rochelle with time oh look at the receiver there he's looking for the tight end Matt Bushman Ryan Connolly got his hand in there [Music] let's go down to the field Matt what do you have for us well guys talking about Rasheed rice normally with a rookie receiver there's a steep learning curve right but he's looked really good in terms of getting better from rookie mini camp all the way through training camp you mentioned how he's a big time contested catch receiver he had 16 of those just last season the top vertical jump of any receiver at the combine but are you also mentioned how he's like a running back in the open field he had 19 broken tackles last season I think that'll make him a very useful player for the Chiefs early on maybe from behind the line of scrimmage not just after the catch after a big game I appreciate the Intel Matt big return for the Saints they get across their own 45-yard line to a 47-yard punt but 22 yards on the return we're gonna step away for a moment 8 40 to go third quarter [Music] responsibly how about this Trent Travis and Patrick today is my eighth birthday hold on Graham brings it back that backs up the Saints second and 13. come up further it appears because it's weird the penalty happened yeah it's from the spot of the penalty so holding calls so that's why it's not just thinking it's going to be second and 20 but instead and there is the pick what a play makes the play against the pick [Applause] foreign s able to bring it in keep his feet in bounds somebody needed to step up and make a play and the rookie out of Western Kentucky so with the interception second foot down but watch the knee goes down and the hip goes down [Music] like we're in late Conference USA getting a chance in this opening preseason game gets that off tape and that fires up the sideline let's see if the Chiefs could turn this into points Michelle Remains the quarterback he's looking for Justin Ross [Music] is over there is a statement right the game don't count but they matter and what a moment for him out there well it does you know you're not only getting the attention of the Chiefs they're they're coaching staff and their Scouts but it draws the attention of other other teams and other Scouts around the around the National Football League so excellent play on this part [Music] [Applause] another former cleansing wide receiver on this roster I love the fact the way that he came back to the football Ari I think if he sits and waits on it then the defensive back has a chance to break it up so not only does he come back get used strong hands but then because of that strength he's able to rip through the arm tackle pick up the first down keep it on the ground and he picks up five yards on first down foreign comes up with the turnover they get the interception now the Chiefs are driving they pick up the blitz who shall with time down the field again a couple of plays on this drive [Music] love the way he's attacking the football I mentioned it on the last one just a short little hits route this time a dig route see how he flattens it off at the top some receivers tend to fall up field and that gives the advantage of the defensive back to where they can undercut it that time he stays flat and friendly for the quarterback he's able to get down low and make that reception getting it down to the 15. first down [Applause] penalties decline results of the play as a catch and a first down let's check in with Matt there's one guy to know on this series defensively is number 44 it's Kim Jones one of my favorite undrafted free agent signees of the off-season had a ton of production and 47 career games at Indiana he was the number 15 overall linebacker and Dane burglar's draft guide from the athletic projected as a fifth round pick he had a season ending injury last year a foot injury but he was leading the Big Ten in tackles per game fire to that injury in week five but he didn't quit on his team he stayed as an extra coach throughout the rest of the season says a lot about him and I'm excited about him here as a player but we got another former Hoosier up here he's probably excited about seeing a Hoosier out there making a play that's what Hoosiers do you know you stay there and you help and you know even though you're injured you got to be a part of it so yeah definitely pulling for cam Jones yeah three-time team captain that is a true leader three years been pretty cool was off dangerous throw there looking for kalon Baker Anthony cook the safety was in the neighborhood here we go gonna take some cam Jones from Indiana sure did he makes an impact there third and seven feeling some pressure get [Applause] great job from the Chiefs defense that's Jack Cochran who's in the area he made some plays in the first half as well and the Chiefs offense are going to get the ball back 350 to go in the third quarter and put the Chiefs look so much better here the Super Bowl last season how good does it feel to be back in action it's great you know back like we never left again it's fun to get the season start of the game have some football on TV watch some guys fly around and just have some fun now you grew up in hour away from here in Baton Rouge Louisiana I know last night you got to see your family how cool is it to one play football but also have your family in attendance today I got a 40-person suite they're somewhere over here you know shout out mom and dad so it was good to have him over here I got to go see him last night um a lot of times familiar heat stepping off the plane uh like oh yeah I know it's not coming down to Louisiana so it was good to be back in town now last season you uh had the second most defensive snaps for for the Chiefs only behind uh Nick Bolton right so talk about kind of stepping into this second year with this organization having that experience winning that Super Bowl and feeling more comfortable in the system it was great it's a great we get to really just build on top of it we had a lot of young guys that played a lot of musical snaps for us I myself was new to the system and training camp this year has just been so much smoother in that already having the system learn just get to go out there and play fast it's about just keeping things sharp playing together building more chemistry the days that I've been in practice he's really stood out you can see uh how good of hands he has and that's why he's listed as both the running back and a receiver he's a guy you can move around get out of the backfield like that time get him out of the backfield and and getting some match-ups uh you can create matchups depending on where you line up whether it's against the safety or a linebacker so I anticipate he's another one that's going to be you know a tough guy uh when it comes down to to figuring out those final roster spots third and three who's shell or for the big hitter and the catch is made Nico makes the catch to another rookie making a play oh plenty of time once again a good good job by the guys up front s don't bring any kind of pressure let me healed rookie out of Fresno State [Applause] Michelle put together another really good drive and keep it on the ground and turning the corner he Ryan now this group's got it going right now it's a really really impressive drive 12 yards on the carry well and I want to give that love to that offensive line because they've done a great job with uh with pass protection given to Shell plenty of time and and of course you've seen here in the Run game now with a couple of runs on this drive First and Ten from just outside the 10-yard line they're going to keep it on the ground saints come up with the stop he remain in the quarter that's a nice throw it really is and there's there's nowhere to go with the football you just try throwing it on the back shoulder they can pick up a first down you get it down inside the one yard line but what a heck of a drive here by the Chiefs this is where your conditioning comes into play this is the 10th play of the drive bouchelle buys some time cuts back throws yes touchdown Chiefs how about that footwork by Michelle it's Crawford with the touchdown give him six well give Crawford credit he doesn't give up on the play he's on the back side bouchelle is flushed to his right he just works that back line and just keeps going he sees bouchelle continuing to try and extend the play excellent job flushing to his right stepping out of the sack runs into his own guy but makes the throw great completion good job by Crawford coming back to the football and digging it up there's in bucker good on the extra point and just like that the Chiefs are in the lead the lead is 21-17 and how about bushel here Trent gets it off at the last hole but the diving catch by Crawford a jump a hop a stiff arm to his own guy this is awesome he keeps in front for the first time today to have success the young guys that have the success they know how hard they've worked in the off season in training camp and being able to translate to some some success on the field uh always gets the sideline fired up all right Kirkland on the return Smith marcette with the Special Teams tackle that's fancy footwork right there and let's take a look at Crawford's route he's kind of oh wait my guy's still alive back there everybody's in on the party throw on first down [Music] [Applause] Banker he's out of bounds close to Midfield 24 yards on the play reception [Applause] [Applause] they keep it on the ground with Merryweather and he picks up just a couple of yards good job by the Chiefs defense cam Jones with the wrap up around the legs and just got done talking about him Dickerson getting an opportunity there getting into the backfield Dickerson was with the Chiefs last preseason spent time with five different teams in his NFL career played his college ball at UCLA second and eight again they keep it on the ground that's a good open field tackle game of three yards on the play that was Lamar Jackson 29 making the tackle [Music] there's another third down opportunity here for the Chiefs defense trying to get them off the field Vader pressures come and gets ridded it's well short of the first down that is a terrific job in coverage Nick Jones makes the play there it is the seventh rounder we talked about at the beginning of this game that we're going to keep an eye on coming up with a big third down tackle the seventh round pick out of ball state [Music] that gets the defense off the field to another terrific play on defense romigio is back deep for the chief there is number 27 Lou Hedley not to jump in but this is the area of the field you got to be ready for a fake so fourth and short on the other side of the field in the field position game foreign s look great can the Chiefs keep it rolling the NFL with some of the comments he made about the previous coaching staff but they're looking to get things changed up they have a good defense and it's a matter of getting Russell Wilson fixed after last season not playing up to his standard as we see a new quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs Chris oladocan they're gonna have him throw in his first play [Applause] away incomplete all the pass oladocan played his college football at South Dakota State he's 25 years of age six feet two 195 pounds into 22 draft he was a seventh round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers uh they think that you know if you're looking to practice squad guy they like his dual threat ability in terms of being a scout team quarterback to give the defense proper looks as they prepare week to week well he was on the practice squad for a little bit last year towards the end of the season and and he went to three different colleges he's been in a number of different offenses he's had some success big strong arm guy and they think it's a guy that they can develop as we see the flag go down early in that play is that the practices that I've been at he's shown a strong arm he's shown the ability to move around in the pocket he's shown some Mobility throwing on the run it's uh I'm excited to see him play in the game Defense number 77 and the neutral zone at the snap five yard penalty second down Jaron cage guilty that improves field position for Matt Nagy offensive coordinator love talking football with Coach Nagy he's got a really good mind such a good Fitness organization after his four years with the Bears season welcoming back Nagy into Chief's Kingdom [Applause] keep it on the ground and Eli and Ely right down there's a flag in the backfield holding offense number 72. penalty will be enforced half the distance to the goal replay second Down Jason godric he's a part of the IPP so the roster is actually 91 players because each team is assigned an international player pathway player and for the chief that is Jason godric he's from Nigeria so we always say 90 but in fact it's actually 91 for all 32 teams [Applause] [Applause] Ola token is incomplete romigio was the intended target going back to what you were saying it's you know the game has become so big internationally soon earlier in your career UFO Europe and now now go over to Europe and there's American football leagues in all of those European countries and there's players playing American football all over the world and and giving these guys opportunities whether it be coaches that come over here and get some learning and go back whether it be uh former players that go over there to become coaches and now giving players an opportunity to come over here and come into training camp and get an opportunity to play and that throw put up there and What A Catch romigio makes the play [Music] beautiful touch on this throw Trent well a great job here laying it in there and uh got to give credit to the Saints Defender there I'm not even sure whose number comes flying through there because with the chains of the rules right in the old days how many that would be a head shot that'd be a shoulder shot that's just going to be a blow up and from an injury standpoint so yes if you're the defense you're like oh we should have been able to knock that play up um from a safety standpoint a player safety standpoint that's how the game has changed right there another catch catch six yards on that reception let's hear a little bit more on romigio for Matt yeah guys impressive stuff from him so far in this game I think this is a player who set career best and catches with 74 receiving yards with 852 and touchdowns with six last year at Fresno State also is tied for the FBS lead with two punt return touchdowns he's lined up in the slot on 84 percent of his career snaps he was the star of the rookie Camp early on in training camp before the veterans got there he's carried it over here into this game so far gets sacked on the play that'll back the Chiefs up a little less than 10 minutes to go in this one it's been an outstanding second half for the Chiefs well that's a learning experience right there that the Saints had good coverage there was nobody open four different receivers out in the route I was watching the the back end of it no separation knowing that it's second and short throw the ball away to keep yourself in third and short as opposed to taking the sack because now you have third and 13. so the percentages change drastically after taking that side good pocket all kinds of time delivers it down the field and it is caught a huge first down for the Chiefs and once again it's Nico ramijo with another big play unless or you have a cannon of a right arm and you're gonna zip it watch this throw first off the linebacker should have gotten hand on it and then the safety should have gotten a hand on it but he had so much smoke on it he's able to get through oh he did get a little bit of everything you see the change the ball to a little bit of spin on the tail of it excellent job of concentration bringing that ball in and getting the first down good looking drive six plays 36 yards [Applause] is looking to connect on the sideline Thai fried Fogle they can't come up with the completion if you weren't with us in the first half they went to the locker room the Saints leading 17-7 a completely different story in the second half the Chiefs have outscored them 14 to nothing and that guy Shane bouchelle really sparked the team with his play a couple of touchdown passes for bouchelle year from Kansas City side of February well I think that ball got tipped a little bit change the course of the football but he's gonna be mad about not getting that one in there because there was a lot of room to run with that inside slip screen that we saw earlier No Gray ran at one time foreign ran it another time so third and ten well the tokens get a scramble and he's a jewel for it look at him go off to the races cuts it back at the 30. and goes down at the 24-yard line making a big play on Third and ten 30 yards on the quarterback keeper well earlier I talked about what he had shown in training camp was the ability to take off and run this time realizing the pressure came up the field they only brought four dropping seven in the cupboards they were in zone covered so everybody was deep great job by olodokin recognizing that he sees the lane in front of it then he has the speed to get away from that shoestring tackle attempt and then he's smart once he realized he was about to get hit he got down and protected himself inside the 25. the ball carrier gets it to the 21-yard line gain of three on the play another nice long effective drive going for the Chiefs well you and I are the same page are we always thinking the same thing just like Michelle had that long drive that ended up in a touchdown it uh it's good to see here are some third down conversions some some plays with their feet some plays in the passing game keeping the clock running having some effectiveness in your play calling and execution by the players on the field a little joke in fires it's complete obviously you won two championships here you know you have people throwing up the LSU got people yelling out uh go Tigers how special is it to bring the Chiefs Kingdom to New Orleans oh man it just shows you how just United football is um just being able to come home and just still have that magnitude of fans that's just football fans and and they they know the magnitude of Louisiana football but also just being in Kansas City and being able to have a world championship and then still be able to bring that to Louisiana is something special for me now let's talk about you getting back on that football field or earlier today we saw we saw a game I'm sure it felt good to get those juices back flowing again yeah oh yeah most definitely um and then especially just first touches being in here uh being back home mom dad everybody's in the stand so um it's it's speechless I mean that's that's all I have words for it's just every time I come in here is draws tears to my eyes just because I I know the magnitude of you know this Stadium had had on my career so it's it's always a pleasure to come back now talk to us about your goals headed into this season right obviously last season you started out how you know had a little bit of an injury that you had to come back from but you know all eyes ahead right all healthy oh yeah most deaf um man it's it's really just was taking this season with and really just hounding in on every second enjoying everything um and just knowing that it can be taken away in at any second and just being able to get a world championship last year it just shows no matter the things you do off the field on the field it's always gets the team to the ending goal and that was the that was the world championship so the things I did off the field the things coach Reed asked me to do I feel like it it kind of projected us to get that Championship so everything for me is is A-Okay and I'm moving forward rolling we can't wait to see all right thank hand injury he will not return tonight thanks man you just hate to see guys get nicked up or get an injury in the preseason because there's just a limited amount of opportunities with just three preseason games looking for Edwards and that is well defended Lamar Jackson he's made a few plays in this second half third year man out of Nebraska he's played in the league he's appeared in 22 games he's got some experience this is his first season with the Chiefs good job with the Reed coming off the line of scrimmage with his hands within within that five yard range and then of course finishing off the play knocking the ball away Headley to punt romigio will be deep for the Chiefs hit his own 25-yard line well there's a little more than four minutes to go I think Andy Reid would like to see the four minute offensive play and the Saints never touch the ball again good job to get up there and field the putt the Chiefs have the football at their own 35 and a seven point lead we'll see if they can close the deal when we come back to the Superdome he had to avoid two Defenders and stiff arm his own guy bouchelle with an outstanding half the two touchdowns coming in the second half that interception right at the end of the first half and then as you can see go ahead with the rest of the guys there yeah here's our that was our game summary presented by the University of Kansas Health about the two-minute offense but there's also the four minute offense but they hope that they could just keep moving the chains take the rest of the time off the clock and not give the Saints another opportunity well those things do have all three time outs so it's going to be a matter of getting first downs keeping the clock moving forcing them to use those timeouts coaches talk about situational football all the time and keep it on the ground the ball carrier not much doing there on first down but the clock continues to wind so the Sims aren't going to use any of their timeouts here on this if they can if the Chiefs can get a first down that's when you'll start getting them to kick into those timeouts and start burning them up so getting completions keeping the clock moving but let's see here Trent where when he snaps the football because there's still 15 on the play clock moving some guys around making sure they're in the right position so taking time off the clock I could do too having two timeouts left to make sure they don't get the ball back you're going to have your hands team up there what do you think do you think they're going to kick it deep or do you think that they're going to try to go for an onside kick here oh I would think you're going to try an onside kick [Applause] but based on the way they're winding up here they're going to kick it deep Blake groupie to kick it off for the Saints what will he do I mean let's say you get the two you get the stop you get two timeouts the most you're gonna have is about 20 seconds maybe [Applause] it's a squib kick [Applause] romigio will bring it up stays on his feet across the third he got to go down and secure that foot I was gonna say that's where you wow good to their point turnover report right here just go down that's a pretty good hit that's where the ball gets loose where you're trying to regain your balance and but he kept it secure now the I would anticipate either well I would anticipate just running the football here but you never know with like a bootleg or a rollout try and get some short secure pass [Music] there's a kind of a cheeky exchange there between the center and the quarterback but fortunately it works out okay not much gain there but most importantly maintain possession of the football clock stops with 108 to go as the Saints use another timeout [Music] to bring it in but I could produce this his heart was racing right there because there's no way I can have this happen yes [Applause] he ran the ball carrier from a real place to go the Saints will use their final timeout Ryan Conley with the tackle it'll come down to third down a minute and four seconds no more timeouts for the Saints I'm happy Mike I'm happy my quick math looks like if it does end up it's going to be right around 20 seconds so [Music] but here's the thing do you throw the ball here and then if you don't get it you give them more time where do you keep it on the ground and try and limit it down I I for me I just hand the ball off use the clock punt it away limit the amount of time they have instead of trying to right because if you have any completion that they'll have a lot more time with you just keep it on the ground but they're gonna throw it oh by the Saints they start doing the screens [Applause] Kyle Phillips with the interception [Applause] hands down on a screen like that uh not sure what the technique is is taught on on that specific play but you know give the defense credit got his hand on it and then fortunate bounce for them unfortunate for uh for the Chiefs and Meriwether the ball carrier gets it just inside the 20-yard line the Chiefs now use the timeout they're second so they've got one remaining [Applause] I mean barring a bizarre play it's going to come now to a field goal attempt for the Saints to try to win this game with just a few seconds to go with just one timeout remaining the Saints will be able to line the clock all the way down [Applause] and it's Merryweather a little hole there and he gets it to the 15-yard line Kansas City uses their third and final timeout with 47 seconds to go alive [Music] [Applause] so I'd imagine they may even just trying to center it in the field here right wherever the kicker like whoever he likes it right if it's left to right middle whatever and and take a knee and sorry setting up the field goal and it's Merryweather [Applause] and he's very close to the first down but I think he's just a little bit shy of it and now the clock will just take neither team with any timeouts remaining Wellness they're actually when that play ended there was 42 seconds so there could have been a variation in two seconds it was clock didn't start until uh to time it out so the Saints if they time this correctly could make this the uh the final play of the game Blake groupie their backup kicker rookie out of Notre Dame 31-yard attempt to win it for the Saints kick is on the way and it is good and the Saints win on the final play of the game Saints 26 Chiefs 24. we saw a lot of guys get in some good good work we saw some guys flash uh what would you take away from this opening preseason game Trent well I think there's a lot to learn you got to bring the energy I think it was encouraging to see the the backups go in and have some success in the third quarter uh at the end of the second quarter and in the third quarter so I think from a depth standpoint that's that's really what the Chiefs are all about right you're talking about revamping the roster but it's really more about adding the depth and finding those positions because they feel really good about their front line guys yeah no this this roster is really really good for the Chiefs there'll be some disappointment losing by a couple of points but we saw a lot of good things happen today for the Chiefs for Trent green give me checks Matt McMullen and our entire crew um Ari wolf we'll be back this
