Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Extra info: usually people rent the skip for a couple of days to fill with rubbish, then company takes back their skip and takes the rubbish to a dumping site or recycle centre. In this case the woman failed to pay for 5 weeks and got abusive after phone calls. The company decided to take their own back.
Dickish neighbors across the street had something similar happen , only with a huge 8' by 14' (ish) dumpster. They bought the house, and the old owners had somehow left a big empty dumpster on the driveway. New neighbors did a lot of remodeling and filled up the dumpster. Then they tried to tell the company to take their dang dumpster away.
Company demanded payment for trash, dickish neighbor said no way. Company said they wouldn't pick it up without payment, DN called the cops on them for leaving their crap on personal property.
Company came, dumped art the contents on the driveway and took the dumpster.
6 mos later when I remodeled prior to selling, one dumpster load cost nearly $1000, so I don't blame the company. Plus the neighbors were dicks, did I mention that?
So I don't know if these are a thing in the UK, but basically it's just a heavy duty mesh bag in the shape of a large
dumpsterskip. You get the "bagster" and fill it up, then call the company and they charge you $145 and come pick up the bag.Anyhow, I got one because I was demolishing a deck and needed a way to get rid of the old rotten wood. The wood didn't fill it, so I figured I wouldn't call right away and would take the opportunity to get rid of some shrubs and tree branches and the like.
So time sorta got away from me and one day I come home to a note from the city saying that I had 72 hours to remove my "pile of debris" or the city would send a contractor to remove it at my cost. So I called the company to pick it up, but they couldn't schedule it within the 72 hour window. I called the city office to see if I could get an extension for the pickup but they wouldn't budge so I just said "fuck it, I guess I'll take the hit."
Well it turns out that the contractors they sent are the ones usually used for doing stuff like mowing abandoned lots and such, so not only did they pick up the bag (I assume they shifted it all by hand, but wasn't home to see) but they also mowed my lawn and tidied up all the hedges while they were there.
A week or so later, the bill from the city for the contractors finally shows up... and it's for $150.
Basically the bag removal cost me the same amount I would have paid anyhow, but I got my entire yard done for a fiver. So sometimes, being a slacker pays off.
Great post. Reminds me of another situation here in the UK where tradesmen legally take retribution. This is a building company destroying a front porch and rear conservatory they built for a homeowner, after not receiving payment for their work.
Apologies for the Dailymotion link. The full clip seems to have been removed from YouTube.
My mother was pissed at her garbage collection people, so she gathered up her cans and drove to their office and dumped them out in the parking lot. Someone came running out to inform her that the company was no longer at that location. She had to pick it all back up.
My dad did some work on a ladies house (owns own business) and she flat out refused to pay him afterwords. The job was fine, no problems, she just didn't want to pay. Apparently she's done this in the past to other repairmen.
My dad went over the next day and tore all the piping he did out and took all his materials back. She called the cops and apparently it's illegal to do that even if the other person does not pay.
Why would anyone ever screw with garbagemen?
You can see the grass has not been cut around the skip so it was there a long time. And I thought the guys in the truck were going to dump the rubbish in the communal area where the skip was, but justice boner got even harder when they reversed back to put it right in her garden
So, if she gets fined for having this garbage in her yard by the council or whatever, and doesn't pay, what happens? Are they allowed to garnish her checks every month (I'm assuming she's on assistance), or is there basically no recourse?
