there are seven things that God considers an abomination and one of them is sowing discord among the Brethren so go think of that when it's happening with these people who are supposedly leaders and usually it happens by the way with prominent people in the church it's usually the ones who've been had a prominent position they've had much favored they've had much proximity to the pastor it or to some person that's close to the pastor that does these things and out in the real world Hey you'd never find people doing what you see people doing in the church which is why the church has a bad rap because all it tends to be either departure from the scripture or a bunch of infighting and people looking into the church Outsiders looking and say well wait a minute the church is supposed to be because that's the world's view the church is the love of Christ doesn't look like much love it looks like a whole bunch of haters wearing a banner that says Christians it should not be hard to believe that everything we face as Christians has been dealt with one way or another in the word I think sometimes we think God has you know he hasn't seen this one it should not surprise us then that when we face opposition constantly we are no different than those that Christ sent out he sent them out and he specifically said to his disciples that he sent out I'm sending you out as sheep among wolves talk about I warned you right there was a big red flag there elsewhere he says in the world you shall have tribulation there's a whole host of these don't be surprised if the world hates you because it hated me and heats me before it will even ever hate you that's first book of Scott but you get the gist I don't know why we're surprised when these things come up and yet everything as I said we can look and comb through the word and find how to navigate I'm not saying that we always do navigate things properly because we don't but we find at least some roadmap of how things are navigated in our life and we can as I said reflect pray meditate try and apply them at least try and consider what they might mean and this isn't this is not a category of do do or don't do this is a way of approach everybody has to make a way of approach to everything every decision every realm there's a way of approach so you can at least look at the way of approach through God's Word and see how it's handled there this is exactly what Jude is doing we are back in Jude this is the 12th message out of the Epistle of Jude and one of the common denominators of the true under Shepherd is he or she is constantly pointing people to God through the word friends if that component is not there I don't know why you're listening this should be like required like there's required reading in school there should be required for every person coming into the church and whether I'm sorry now I'm gonna piss some people off but whether you're Catholic whether you're Anglican whatever your choice preference of what you were born into or what you chose you better figure out real quick that under the banner of Christendom there's only one purpose and let's talk about whether or not we agree with how the distribution of ministry has been dealt out in certain denominations there is one common goal it is not to talk about plastic bottles gathering up in sea it is not to talk about social issues it is to bring this word to life to make it clear to make it apply to point you to God through the word and then have you take it and chew it masticate it deal with it whatever you need to do so that it sticks otherwise what is the purpose for the church age-old problem I confront it probably more often than I care to share of people thinking the church is something else and why this little book this little epistle is so important is because as I said the true sign of an under Shepherd that's called no matter what's happening the emphasis is always going to be I want you to have a better relationship closer whatever it is better understanding with God it's not about me there is no mediator there's no middle person if you happen to like me you appreciate me in the process hallelujah but that's not why I'm here I'm not here to make friends I'm not here to build a social club and this is exactly what Jude has been doing you realize that in this day and age Jude could not do in this little 25 verse epistle he could not do he could not say he could not speak the things that he did without somebody saying that's that's a slur or that you know there'd be something being read into this that's racist that's this he just calls it out there and probably one of the most fascinating things I pointed out last week is he does not unlike any other New Testament writer he does not quote scripture from the old or New Testament although he he pulls some text from the testament of Moses which is from that verse 9 perhaps and verses 14 and 15 out of the Book of Enoch which is rather remarkable if you think about that because every other book every other writer has something that they are quoting that's either Old Testament or they're saying the words of Christ even mmm I shouldn't say this really but in some part at least James has some Old Testament here there's nothing but something interesting happens using these quotes and something that occurs in the verses we're going to be looking at today 17 18 and 19 which I will read in a minute although there is no direct quote verbatim something maybe more important is being said here let me read these three verses first but beloved remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ so first thing right off the bat he's saying remember the words and this is not logos this is Rhema these are the sayings which is very important because if it was remember the logos and so forth we wouldn't have this insight to know that whatever we don't have a church per se Jude is writing this to some intended readers but we have clear knowledge of something that apostles of Jesus Christ came and either established a church where jurt Jude may be an overseer but it is eyewitnesses in some dimension way shape or form that came and spoke directly to these people which gives you a couple of more insights as to the writing of this which is hotly debated by people at what time and at least you've got kicking out John because he died a natural death and probably died at the very just 98 somewhere around there 99 and not at the far end possibly a hundred but that's highly dubious but that gives us insight as to the framework of when this potentially was written considering that Jude is the half-brother of the Lord and he says apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ here's the important part how they told you he doesn't say it is written or you've heard it said he says how they told you which when people debate this book and whether or not it should be in the Canon in our present New Testament they should stop and kind of check this box real strongly the reason for that is because he says specifically how they told you there should be mockers in the last time who should walk after their own ungodly lust and I'll read verse 19 these be they who separate themselves sensual not having the spirit so a few things I'm wanting to tackle today and that is through these three verses we can really glean some insight insight to the faithful preacher faithful apostle faithful under Shepard who isn't saying he take my word but remember what these people told you an important point of connection is look back to verse 5 when he begins this whole section of the Epistle which really is stirring up their memory from Old Testament happenings of people who essentially disobeyed or displeased whatever the case is defected but he says I will therefore put you in remembrance and he goes on to chronicle all these things and bookends it with but beloved remember ye the words this is the hallmark not only a simple writing but great writing because it does it accomplishes a purpose that is quite unusual for the New Testament New Testament it is written or some paraphrase this is bookends of what we know appears in our Bible by and large except for the the Michael who is contending with the devil and the subject of Enoch which we've already discussed the rest of these events are from our Bible and he says so from Old Testament prophets to the New Testament apostles I want you to remember these two things which is what every under Shepard should be doing showing people the way back to the word reminding them of things whether they know them in this case I'm certain that his intended readers knew because he says he's calling them to remembrance about the children of Israel the angels Sodom and Gomorrah etc etc so when somebody says I'm looking for a church I want the pastor or the minister or the priest to please feel free to help yourself and expound on what I'm doing so that at least if somebody really is genuinely trying to understand this is the calling Paul lines it out pretty good in multiple books but this is just 25 verses in here really just three verses saying something of an explanation as to why we should be focused on God's Word in God now in the Greek what you have something interesting our King James has but beloved remember remember ye the Greek actually starts off with there's no there's no verse division in the Greek equally there is no punctuation in the Greek bummer so I'd like to do some but there is no punctuation so the King James but beloved remember ye and so on I love that in the Greek for the most part when you want to put emphasis on the most important thing in the sentence you put that first usually in the sentence so the sentence in the Greek begins with you and I love that because he's he's now making a contour distinction between the false teachers these creeps that crept in and you beloved of God term of endearment but not meant that way more as if to say you who are loved by God chosen by God loved by God kept by God we've covered this I think in the first or second message in this epistle so he's specifically focusing it makes a quick transition from the things he's been dealing with calling out these false teachers to now somewhat of an explanation we're done with the calling out and the will say the denouncing now this is a clarion call to the faithful look to the words listen to the words how they said and he's now saying they said this would happen now let me stop right here because it's the perfect time for me to do this somebody who doesn't know the Bible or understand God's ways would say well this sounds like a cult right you know who's this guy Jude if you didn't know any better and he's telling them about these people over here but he says but essentially to you faithful ones you know better than to listen to that stuff now in this modern day and age that word gets tossed around a lot I always I marvel at gosh I'm gonna use that I word the ignorance of people when they toss around that term cult because if you're gonna make that type of interpretation then you've got to go back to the words of Paul and you really have to go back to the words of Christ and if you really want to get good at this just go back to when the Father God was speaking in the beginning Old Testament before Christ came in the flesh to figure out that there's always been an order to things and when somebody says that's cultish merriam-webster defines the word you say how did I get on this because it reminded me there'll be people who misinterpret what the church should be not according to my definition but according to God's you know this is why these illustrations in here are brilliant when Jude uses the way of Cain the error of Balaam and the gainsaying of korah especially Korah coming against Moses and Aaron and saying don't think you're the only people that God's appointed here no God chose Moses and Aaron putting Aaron beside Moses to do the priesthood and be the original first mouthpiece when Moses said he couldn't speak don't come in to the things of God like a bull in a china cabinet thinking somehow you're going to press your way in and it should look like this I'll tell you if you want to know what the code looks like read modern history you've got plenty of cults David Koresh read about that it started off actually kind of good got weird morphed into something more weird got weird and weirder and ended terribly all of these things usually end up with we have to remove ourselves from this location and go somewhere well no one will bother us bear arms and either drink kool-aid or kill people kill ourselves whatever that's really I mean that's the modern day version merriam-webster says religion regarded as defines the word cult as religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious devotion to a person idea object or movement a group of followers characterized by such devotion and why am I saying this because there is a fine line and if you are someone who is in the faith you understand this and someone who's not in the faith will make ignorant statements about people who follow Christ and the teachings of Christ I said to you don't get me involved in the middle of your worship your relationship with God you work it out you and God I give you the tools and the information you take it you apply it I'm not interested in monitoring what you do in your house or how you manage your affairs that's not my business it's one of the main reasons why when somebody says counseling I run the other way TMI you know I've got stuff I got to work out to I'm not sure that I can take on more than I already have but my point is when people talk about cult like I've said for years because I've heard people toss this around to be devoted to God directly to God is not cultic or you may say the term in its origin if we understand it etymologically I'm not going I'm talking about the current use devotion to God is you love God above everything this is what Christ said if you don't prefer me above everything else in your life including your mother your brother your father your sister etc you can't even be my learner my disciple my follower so there's nothing cultic about that there is nothing cultic about saying I'm going to point you to God's Word you do with it what however you want to apply it because I'm not here to live your life and I'm not gonna stand in your place before God you are this is the importance of learning God's Word so when people toss around this term I wonder how many would read this and say well who what is it Jude's business to tell these people you know he's calling out these other people and we're told in the Bible specifically we're not to judge right Matthew 7 says we're not supposed to judge isn't that true well isn't dude judging no that's like saying well we're not - we're not to hate so go and love the devil that's tad him out - that my point is that he's pointing out something and if it was anything less than this I'd say he missed the mark but he made these bookends remember speaking about the Old Testament and those people their accent the consequences and then he says but remember you remember the words the sayings the Reema's not the logos the rimas those sayings that were spoken to you I didn't make this this is what they said do you now I want to ask you a question and it's rhetorical but why is it that that seems pretty clear right Jude said this is what they said to you why is it that some people cannot understand for example what dr. Scott said to you did you get that one because he was very clear about a lot of things and he's great in my opinion greatest teacher of the Bible in this modern age why is it that some people just they just there was a disconnect they heard maybe like these people in this day or they say well I'm not I'm I'm not going for that or they would listen to that and say well absolutely and then people start defining the actions or responses to an individual and their teaching specifically the Word of God in a certain way well that's cultic well it only becomes Celtic friend when I tell you that you should all wear a certain uniform in the sanctuary or I want to see where you live so I can come and inspect and make sure that everything is in boxes and containers and like rightly lined up and that you have a supply of purple kool-aid somewhere it only becomes a cult when the preacher Jude or any other preacher says you can't leave hey there's an exit sign the usher is right there if you want to go that's where to go go out that door and goodbye I'm not here to dry I've said this before I'm not here to last through people into the kingdom there are plenty of evangelists out there who would like to do that and any opportunity whether it's at the grocery store you're in the toilet at bonds or something they will they will try and get you in a moment of vulnerability and it could not be more vulnerable than that that's not my cup of tea why because I believe that God has the power because He is God to intervene on his own putting people I've said at the right crossroads to be able to hear me or to meet up with you where you share something with them at the right crossroad where he orchestrates and he's already prepared there's something that's already going on I don't need to last you people into the kingdom I feel that is cultish because what is a conversion if God hasn't done it if it's all about me trying to coerce somebody like dr. Scott story about how do you get the Holy Spirit you kick in my shins you're kicking my shins are kicking my shins just like that that's not the way God intended otherwise he would have given the instructions and numbers 15 that you kicked the shins in order to get the spirit inside the person I'm just being silly seven times no less but what Jude is doing is he is pointing to their teaching not once in this little epistle does he say I'm telling you this he says I want you to remember what happened in the past and I also want you to remember what the Apostle said to you they spoke to you that there should be mockers in the last time let me take my time here sometimes I get in a rush and I will forget some things that I'd like to include so the first thing I want to talk about is that Greek word that your King James says mockers and I found it kind of interesting see if I can find the right scratch pad here we go all right I will write it phonetically from Greek trying to keep writing English all right something like that that's what it would look like phonetically impact I mockers or scoffers and if we're tracing this word from well I always do this I'll go back and I'll look at the use of an equivalent or equal word through the Septuagint into the Old Testament we have a similar word being used it's a cognate of this word in Proverbs and I'm going from Greek from Greek New Testament to Greek Septuagint back through the Old Testament Hebrew to say there's a connection in proverbs and it is proverbs 122 that says how long will you simple ones where you love simplicity and the scorners delight in their scorning and the fools hate knowledge essentially those that laugh at the things of God and there are many other passages like that referring to this it's kind of interesting though if you break down this word and follow it if you have a strong which is the concordance for the King James it's this word is 1703 follow it backwards too I will try and keep this all in English in pays all you even though it's Greek and break down this word to in or in and this word pays oh I laughed when I saw that because I read it quickly and thought but so like Italian right so just kooky or crazy but it doesn't mean that but it does mean sorry I got excited for a minute but it doesn't mean play and if you keep tracing this word you get to Pais which is where we get child so think about this these mockers have a childish playing behavior towards the things of God if you want to break that down like that perfectly fine I found something interesting in Wes has this three volume word studies in the new testament old I seldom open it up but I read his translation of these verses and I'd like to read them to you you can see how he views these folks he says but as for you divinely loved ones remember the words which were spoken previously by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ that they were saying to you in the last time there shall be mockers or during their course of conduct in accordance with their own passionate cravings which are destitute of reverential awe towards God these are those who cause divisions egocentric not holding the spirit pretty pretty good translation and elsewhere I'll get to this he has another gem that we'll look at in a minute and we get there but the idea here don't just think you see this word mockers and you kind of can put it in the category of this word carries heavy weight when you think about those that mocked Christ you know we can read that when Christ was crucified and some that kind of mocked and said you know he said he was God but you know if he's God let him get himself down and we read that almost has a I don't know casual reader would and don't think anything of the fact that right there at the foot of the cross people were mocking God it's kind of a sad statement so what I like about what this word kind of does for me is it lets me know that these have a childish mindset if you will towards the things of God I don't mean childish as childlike childish not understanding the importance of what the Word of God rightly divided means and why it's so important and then he says in the last time and I once had a question somebody asked me what is what is how do you distinguish between the writing some that say in the last days and the last time and certainly what is being written here what is being intended here is certainly to mean because the word that is in the Greek is in the last days but when somebody says well when are those days well any time after Christ ascended until he returns constitutes what is being said here is the last time and in between that time this is what they said there will be people who should walk after their own ungodly lust these be they who separate themselves sensual not having the spirit so we can easily see an interesting connection of things that are being said and if we really want it to look and I'm gonna do this just for the sake of and then we'll go back to where we were if you want to turn turn with me and if not you stay where you are I'll start at Matthew 7 Matthew 7 and verse 15 this our Lord speaking beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves it says you shall know them by their fruits and this passage has long been corrupt for the wrong reasons but it is exactly what Jude is speaking about so even our Lord warned of this and then keep going because in that same Gospel turn to the 24th chapter I want us to look at these just to make sure it's clear in our mind this is not some isolated incident here 24 and beginning at verse 11 this specifically is in time many false prophets shall arise and shall deceive many and we often talk about how the very elect shall be deceived in in the final days and the spirit of Antichrist already at work in the land but here again it's false teachers false prophets coming in and again I think you have the same thing here being said in verse 24 of that same 2424 there shall arise false Christ's false deliverers and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders and so much that if we're possible they shall deceive the very elect and again if you keep going let's get out of the Gospels and go to the book of Acts and see what which you find in the book of Acts we could spend the whole day looking at these but just a few will do acts 20 and I've highlighted this before acts 20 29 and 30 this is Paul now he says for I know this that after my departing shall Grievous wolves enter in among you not sparing the flock also of your own selves shall men arise speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them do you think that's only in the early church because it still goes on today this is the same disease today people come out and they'll say either openly they disagree with the pastor make a big stink and try and make everybody else smell the stink and then leave and sit just go quietly I've told you I should write a little handbook on how to leave a church and it would probably be blank in the middle but the first page would be go quickly and keep your mouth shut because nobody's interested in hearing all the negative things that you have to say because you're disgruntled I said it's not a cult go out and do whatever you want but go somewhere else and by the way going somewhere else doesn't mean that you go somewhere else and you take material from this ministry and either pretend that it's yours or you take material from this ministry and pretend that it's your ministry to do something with it means go out find your own calling if you're really called by God which means your own burden and God will give you the message if you're really called if not well get out while you can that's all I got to say it's just goofy you know you think why are people so silly the number one reason ego it's ego it's the center of everything in fact Jude will point this out in a way that's not quite black and white but it's there it has much to do with what I want how I want it how I'd like it to be let me go to the next one because the next one you've probably are much more familiar with I've quoted these many times but first Timothy 4 keep turning until you find it first Timothy four now the spirit speaketh expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils speaking lies in hypocrisy having their conscience seared with a hot iron and he goes on in this case to describe forbidding to marry commanding to abstain from meats which God hath created and so forth but again and what he does is he calls and this passage is calling Timothy to be remembered of something that was previously said or stated again you've got the same thing in second Timothy so just the next book over in second Timothy which is a similar that third chapter is kind of an outline of what will be perilous times shall come but the fourth chapter II says I charge thee therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom and he gives him a straight command preach the word be instant in season out of season reprove rebuke exhort with all longsuffering and what's the key word there doctrine for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but after their own lusts they shall heap to themselves teachers having itching ears they shall turn away their ears from the truth and shall be turned unto fables and so you you see this is not just in one place it's not an isolated incident and that's why I said the true I don't I don't care at this point we're not I'm not talking about someone's understanding or their interpretation you might say well that's bizarre maybe they are trying to point people to God and are misguided that's a different subject we're talking about pointing people to the word to show them the way not I'll tell you how to get there follow me no you follow me as I follow Christ that's probably the best way to say it so he also goes on to say something interesting about these P he says these are they who separate themselves sensual having not the spirit and there is an interesting interpretation of this word to separate I don't know why the King James translators put a reflexive there it should not be reflexive it should not be separate themselves and too bad I didn't bring my multiple translation multiple version viable out here because the King James alone is the only one that has that reflexive themselves essentially what that word what that Greek word is doing is saying those who cause division even as I read West's translation or his version those who cause divisions egocentric not holding the spirit but let me go back to the section in West's book that talks about this this word separate themselves he's saying Apple do Rizzo by drawing boundaries to disjoin parts separate from one another the revise has makes separations Vincent says cause divisions in the Church of those who draw a line through the church and set off one part from another now that is how those under those who translated this verse using the reflexive as to separate and elevate themselves they are here you don't know and this could have been out of a Gnostic framework if somebody's gonna take that interpretation but more justly the text has done more justice to understand remember these came in what does it say here these came in spots in your love feasts so it's pretty important to understand why even that statement is there because if these are making divisions I highly doubt it is setting themselves apart they infiltrated came in under the guise of so undoubtedly these are people making schisms and making some terrible fraction in a body that should be united again I'm gonna say this because it's beneficial for all I am NOT preaching syncretism that is we all every faith every person needs to blend together otherwise why do we call ourselves Christians we are Christians because of Christ and the uniqueness of Christ and what Christ did he died and rose he died for a sin-sick world that you and I might have life eternal just totally different from any other faith and I say that as founders of religion go as people who have started a faith or claim to be the founder of a faith so if we're going to be Christians I'm not preaching some synchronistic let's all come let's every religion Under the Sun come together that will never happen some are completely opposite to the faith that is the faith we share in Christ or opposite the doctrines and teaching of however within the body this is the very thing that Paul wrote about unity of the faith till we all come to the unity of the faith of the perfect man well that is sorely lacking most of the time in churches and why because of these individuals like this these were false teachers but this happens all the time people that insist on making division and the division usually occurs in one or more methods but it usually stems from and I go back to this ego I I want the service to be like this I want the preacher to be like this I want aiiii well what about the rest of the people who don't really care about the I that you are but care about the bigger picture which is the body of Christ because if your focus is on I all the time it tells me your eyes are not even on the Lord you're too busy feeling about yourself and whatever it is about yourself and self aggrandizing your eyes aren't even in the right place we're looking at the bigger picture somebody says well and I've had this said in times past well you know people can have disagreements sure they can but there's a big difference between having a disagreement and making division and the Bible says very clearly you mark those that cause contention among you and you avoid them or if you want to go Old Testament God says there are seven things that God considers an abomination and one of them is sowing discord among the Brethren so go think of that when it's happening with these people who are supposedly leaders and usually it happens by the way with prominent people in the church it's usually the ones who've been had a prominent position they've had much favored they've had much proximity to the pastor it or to some person that's close to the pastor that does these things and out in the real world hey you'd never find people doing what you see people doing in the church which is why the church has a bad rap because all it tends to be either departure from the scripture or a bunch of infighting and people looking into the church Outsiders looking and say well wait a minute the church is supposed to be because that's the world's view the church is the love of Christ doesn't look like much love it looks like a whole bunch of haters wearing a banner that says Christians so I look to this and I think a couple things there's there's gonna be some more juxtapositions he says those who separate themselves sensual not having the spirit and then I don't want to go into verse 20 but I do want to make reference to this because he says they don't have the spirit but ye beloved building up yourselves and your most holy faith praying in the Holy Ghost same thing spirit Holy Ghost these people do not you pray this way now you remember what Paul said out of Romans seven and eight speaking of the carnal man and then in Romans eight talking about that spirit reference that those who don't have the Spirit of God or none of his now we're not to go around and say well I'm gonna inspect whether you have the spirit or not I have been in a couple of churches like that where if you during the service if you weren't spouting off and tongue we weren't saved clear a clear mark that you are not saved in their denomination and I resent that but I will tell you this when I consider clear mark it is the ability to discern it doesn't mean I completely understand but the ability to discern spiritual things and not turn my nose and say oh well that that's the kernel mind against the work of God that's the carnal fleshly mind fighting because it does not want to give way it cannot give way I guess it could pretend for a time but it cannot give way because that requires the Spirit to open up and illuminate we go back to conversion no better yet instead of going back to conversion let's go back to the garden in the garden before the fall perfect communion God is speaking with Adam there is this unity if you will even though God is God Adam is Adam but there's unity and after the fall what's the first thing of course after hiding him clothing themselves and hiding themselves God is calling for him and saying where are you not that God didn't know where Adam was but suddenly Adams understanding that communion had been broken so we talked about Communion and fellowship in the spirit it becomes important to understand that throughout the Bible God is in a diversity of ways tried to show what the unity looks like into the New Testament of course the day of Pentecost is the pouring out of God's Spirit the promise of the gift of the Father but when you get to people who say well you know someone so is a good Bible teacher but well if they're a good Bible teacher you need to listen I'm not even going to elaborate on that if they're good Bible teacher listen to what they have to say let them teach you and quit letting the I rule your mind because you think but there's a said about dr. Scott you know what he brilliant teacher but he used to say by his own mouth he's say people used to say brilliant Bible teacher but I can't get past that cigar so would it be better if he didn't smoke but behind your back he did other things that were say really egregious and then you could say what a great Bible teacher isn't be a hypocrite in other words this is how skewed everything is I'd rather be somebody just let it all hang out what you see is what you get and what you see is what you get imperfect a little little you know out there at times okay I don't try and come here and paint some I'm spiritual and let us all sound spiritual that's playing church and if I want to have those moments that are created I'm not against this put on some music in the home or in your car and enjoy that moment because those can actually be emotive moments that carry you away it might be a great piece of classical music or hymn that carry you away and you feel like in that moment it was very spiritual but that's emotive and the basis of our faith is not rooted in emotion it's rooted in the knowledge of Christ going back to a true under Shepard pointing you to the teaching actually point you to God through the Word of God so what I love about what he does here is he sets this all up brilliantly and I decided I would make a little chart here let me take a new page I don't want to save that we're only saving things that can be saved all right a preachers joke on the tablet so never mind these mockers they reject the Apostles doctrine and obviously so because this is what Jude has been contending that's one two they create division they are not spiritual not and last they walk after their own and you fill in the blanks that says their own lusts but they walk after their own you can fill in the blanks of whatever their own is in modern times the intended readers are here's we'll call them the right right it's going to look really nice I'm going to write right over this give a fine time for the editors and people who are alright listeners they remember what the Apostles and not just any apostles but the apostles of Christ said that takes you back to the teaching - they build themselves up here this is for later but we'll get to it they build themselves up not about themselves but what in the unity and unity and faith and actually I'd put here above this faithless and here are faithful three these pray in the spirit don't go legalist on me and say was that mean they pray in tongues it means their prayers are guided by the spirit you have the spirit you don't it's nothing in between it's not like well the mark of the Spirit is blob Alon these people calling these crazy tandems I just talked about you neither have the spirit which is what's keeping you anchored to this book to God or you don't you lose interesting you drift away you don't care and you be if you still have a a superficial interest it is out of perversion it is too corrupt or to bring division derision whatever it is it's perverted and corrupted will no longer be to accomplish the purposes of God which is to build the body of Christ up these are those who are constantly tearing down the church at any chance they get under the guise by the way of being Christians but no spirit and lastly and I'll put this down this is later on these also await the closing verse they await they await the mercy of Christ they're not waiting for something else they're not going to settle for second fiddle so you you can really see when I lay this out it's a lot more intense to see even these four of them why I used for these four points and then we can go and look at a little bit of a different angle take a different approach which is we can look at the mind of these people their mind is not focused to build and if it is it is it is to build something for themselves greedily this is why these examples of Cain and Balaam and Cora are put there to give us some idea some reference back there it's for something for themselves so the mindset they are obviously not familiar or don't care about God's Word God's Word talks about the body before New Testament many things are said about the body even though there wasn't a body but the children of Israel any reference you want that talks about relationship with God unity and love and we're not talking about people that don't go to war you go to war when God says you go to work you get out there when God says go you go we're not talking about that so these people either were not aware didn't understand but certainly I hate to use the word morals or character but it seems like if we were to look at the mind of these people but their sole focus was to get for themselves not having the spirit which means it's all about the flesh to get what I want for me and whether that was to gain reputation to become prominent in the community or maybe it was to get money or maybe favor I don't know that we don't know but it's limited it's only a handful and of course the mark and this may be the one I want to focus on the most most important the mark of these people I just finished saying this in three different ways so forgive me if it's redundant but the mark of these people they don't care about you in the church they don't care about your future in eternity they don't care about the church the work of God forget about the people like myself they don't care about the work of pointing people to God through the word by a leader who has been put out there to do such a work their care is only to tear down destroy make divisions and this is why when when he uses this word separate themselves and the King James translated themselves it almost is a little bit frustrating for me because I can clearly see that it's not that they think of themselves as Pharisees that are up here and you're all just a lower class of believers but the reason for including the love feast is because they came in under the guise of being brethren to make specifically to make division amongst the Saints to sow discord and while you're busy having discord you cannot have a but the body will not thrive it will die what almost happened to this church when dr. Scott got promoted people who were so concerned about themselves and could not trust God enough and could not be focused enough on the bigger picture the bigger picture is not about Melissa Scott the bigger picture is not about Jean Scott the bigger picture isn't about this church per se but in the big picture it is to keep putting the Word of God out for people who are lost who need light and direction and not something about your grievance about whether I'm a woman or I whatever it is I do or what he did or somebody else it's about the Word of God reaching people who desperately need to be saved and if you can't understand that this is what it means to not have the Spirit of God it means you are so self-absorbed in your own cesspool of what you think it ought to be that you cannot see the bigger picture and the bigger picture it's still being put out there because I've said to you when I started this message very interesting how nothing that happens in our life God hasn't already dealt with in this book and Jude very carefully tells the people I'm gonna give you the strength through the Word of God to make it through and keep contending for the faith let me tell you because that'll be my next message but let me tell you one thing don't think it's ever going to stop because it won't and very easy to say well it's this is a problem that is here no it's a problem in every church where a leader is trying to do one thing I don't care if the church is big or small when the person who is at the helm or behind the lectern wherever they stand their goal is to do one thing only bring the Word of God sometimes it is it's like a breath of fresh air it makes you feel good and you leave here and you feel like you've just been refreshed other times it's just what you needed for something you're going through specifically but overall we all need these types of admonitions to keep the focus why because it's so easy to succumb to the talk the ideology even bad theology this is why when Paul in Ephesians 4:32 and he says putting away all malice all clamor he says forgiving one another for Christ's sake just as Christ is forgiving you the essence of that is again there's always been this type of division in the church but a leader whose understanding the bigger picture will say okay if you want to if you want to do this go out there and do it here is a body that's supposed to be building growing and thriving even if it means building simply in the faith and growing simply in the faith which is all you need to make it in and that's where you are to focus your attention and not on these crazy people who under the guise of helping you under the guise of delivering the work the ministry you as believers or me as a preacher whatever it is make it your mission and this is why I said that there'll be people who will just they'll think what I'm saying is analogous to what Judas saying sounds a certain way but it's exactly that be a Berean most of you in the sound of my voice study and read your Bible and you know what the Word of God says i'm really talking now to an audience out there that may not study as much or maybe it's just beginning get yourself a Bible and start reading it read a version that is in your in your own understanding where it's easy for you to read it so you can get the gist of what's being said so that at some point as you move and upgrade in the word and get a little better understanding you're not having people deceive you into crazy doctrines or the things that are so easy to succumb to gossip backbiting even the things that we think oh that's just normal that goes on everywhere well for us who have been taught in the word people who have received you know one thing I'm not going there I'm not saying my mind hasn't gone there but so in this case open the mouth and start speaking and start partaking in that type of ministry which is destructive versus open your mouth and start speaking good and edifying words building up one another which I think Christ said to the disciples Paul said it to his followers and I'm saying it to you and keep yourselves in the love of God because if your focus is on God and in his love these things that come at you these constant people who opposed and the things that try to tear us apart the one thing you'll know is to wait a minute I'm in no position to be talking about this because I'm just as guilty or just as indictable as the next person here so me thinks that the best tactic here is what dude chose which is to point people to an antidote for this and stay in it which is essentially fading looking to God and not keeping your eyes and ears in every other direction but keep the focus and keep the faith and that's my message you've been watching me pastor Melissa Scott live from Glendale California faith Center if you would like to attend the service with us Sunday morning at 11 a.m. simply call
