hey everybody its Wendy again I'm back to you in my journal making 101 series I had such great results and feedback from what I did yesterday the journal or I'm sorry the video on now tags 101 but I thought why not try and just take you through my process that I use for making my journal in hopes that I might inspire one or more YouTube to give it a go because I have to say it's not difficult it's not even really tedious it's so for me I loved every part of the process so what I'm going to teach you how to do or show you how I do are the covers for this kind of my journal this is one I haven't I'm going to do a video for this later this morning and it's one of the minis Ben Ali Commons has got me addicted to oh-oh here comes Lee Hom this could be a problem I have glue so anyway this is the size because it's just easier to keep a smaller one in frame okay Lee you're going to need to move out of the way buddy so what you need is you need to cut your card or your cardboard upcycle this is an old file and you can see it it's a firm but it's not you know really fish credit needs and this is the size for the minis for the minis I can tell you I caught these n of 5 and 7/8 by 3 and 7/8 and then this is 5 70 by 2 inches I do that because the fabric overhangs a little bit on my on my pieces and that gives it the for me it gives it almost a perfect 4 by 6 when I'm done alright Lee this is not going to work buddy so what you're going to need is you're going to need a fabric for the cover I've got a nice sort of a damaged upholstery fabric something a little thicker is great you're going to need a piece of muslin or fab concentric of your choice for inside the cover I use a nice big old bristly brush I also use either I'm the aleene's tacky glue depending on the thickness of the fabric this is not a super super thick fabric so this is tacky glue when I have a very thick brocade I use fabric X which is a little bit better glue for sticking down heavier fabric okay so and you'll need scissors so this is going to be part one and then part two I will show you how I sew it but the first part is that I glue so what I do is I determine which side of the fabric I want to use and I want this to be the outside I just happen to have this little remnant beside it's not you know perfect rather tattered not cut right in a tattered way I always put the side of my cardstock that's got the busyness or the darkness against the darker fabric so I'm just going to lay this out just to see if everything's going to fit I like to have a quarter inch if I can on the outside I always like to have a little bit here between so it folds well that's going to be perfect okay and I like to have a little bit of this on the bottom so this is all I do I'll go and get my glue stop Lee oh gosh and I just very quickly like thick very quickly or attempt to very quickly glue that on oh gosh guys I hope this is going to be boring for you I know that wheel will probably try and make it as exciting as you can and unless you can see him if he's in frame but he is sitting just at the top right here where I put my finger so pick that up and I put that down and I want to have the fringe on the bottom and I want above the French helps me know where it's straight and I've got these that night and now take this piece I don't care if I go over to the edges because I'm going to be putting glue over the top of this anyway the other side of this some cardstock so once again I'm going to scooch it close keep it kind of straight as I can and then the fabric kind of gives up there that's a nice I like to have just a wee bit so that when you do this see that's going to make it easy fold or open off the page and go again I think I had the glue a little bit long as I was preparing to do the video and it's it's gotten a bit gummy it'll still work it will still work don't worry about that I've kind of pull that up you want to make sure I have a bit of a damage pattern on the inside of this file folder so I just want to make sure everything is about the same alright that it's all lined up straight so there you go see there we are nice and flat sticking well so the next bit while that's still wet you could let that dry but I don't and like I was beginning to say earlier this is not the only way that people do these this is the way I do it I'm sure it's not unique to me I've seen you on Preston G some really great videos on her process and this is not similar actually it's very similar to what she's done with her cardboard or her her paper journalism one that you found I hope I didn't get that wrong anyway she's been an inspiration to me there's a number of wonderful I mean I mean usually one of you have been an inspiration in terms of what I've been able to pick up from your post on Joe Carroll junkies and also on YouTube I've learned a lot for people like Sue Olsen and Nick the book Smith and and Ally Commons and Fiona Dobson and gosh there's lots of great Elizabeth Smith huge fan Elizabeth's work yeah so I'm sure I'm missing 7 Murray Glendale who's been a great inspiration is also Jenny NAB Bernard who is je9 scraps and she's really been someone who is very close to me in terms of even location she's on the east coast of Canada so I got to pull that out some weeks leo give it a shake and so what I try and do I look for what looks like it might be my straightest option did you notice that I did put some balloon around the outside edges I did that on purpose so that I could so this would adhere beyond the paper and this is not an exact science I'm just trying keep it tight on one end see see that I've chef we'd like so Mary want to make sure I have bubbled out turn it upside down my folders and simply doesn't really come through the fabric so it's got that done and I immediately trim it so I can see because the fabric is dark I can see the lightness of the card stock underneath so I trim it not quite between 1/8 and 1/4 inch from the outside and it's stuck to itself because I'll make sure the glue with outside the cardboard so we do that or the cardstock and like I said you can use an old cereal box I use that often you can use an old file folder I just use things that I'm not going to use otherwise or that might get wasted so there there's what it looks like like so I just play with it a little bit just to make sure everything is working as I as I want it and I set them like this to dry so that they dry little quicker now I'm going to be totally honest with you I go right ahead and sew this right now on my sewing machine it's not a precious machine it's a really built for activity it's a brother and I have another one that I use just for my clothing but this one is a real heavy-duty old-timer so what I'm going to stop the video and then I will show you how I sew it and then you'll be all set okay same time get ready for part two bye
