Tyson McGuffin coming off of a big week in Necker tell me a little bit about Necker Island real quick yeah I thought uh once in a lifetime experience um awesome to meet Richard Branson um ton of great people down there bunch of networking beautiful place lots of activities um meals around a long table three times a day on the island all day long um bunch of Pros there and stuff like that we had workshops going on we have frams we had exos awesome uh so big change late last year you went from cirk to Yola um tell us about that transition and uh why yeah so probably one of the one of the scariest changes in my life not going to lie been with CER for the last eight years they've done a lot for me I feel like I've done done a lot for them um and uh yeah we're we're in the in the same area we're uh a neighbors if you know what I mean they're in C Lan Idaho beautiful place um and yeah I think I was in a position where yeah I was kind of looking to do things more more Global and um I I personally felt like yeah just with um just CK's Vision uh it wasn't my vision anymore and even though we had been great partners for the last eight years it was time for me to uh jump ship and just take a take a different step in the right direction I was I was a big fan of Tom and Richard uh I was I was a big fan in um just their motto and some of the brand ambassadors or some of the brand or some of the brand athletes that they have um I never thought I would definitely be on the same uh paddle team with uh Mr Mr Ben Johns if you know what I mean but if you can't beat him join him as simple as that and um but no I I think from like an engineering standpoint uh there's there's a ton of knowledge there uh you know this this new tech this generation 3 Tech I think is is the best tech out there um so just believed in the vision believed in the engineering uh seems like the production level of their content as well as really upping and they're just just uh they're trying to enhance everything right they're telling better stories about their athletes and uh they're just finding cool creative ways to really build content obviously as you know I've been a big content guide since 2020 um with uh having a full social media content team doing YouTube stuff podcast educational videos now family blog having the camps and all the above and uh always tried to be true and authentic through my content so um yeah it just seemed like the whole package was there nice tell us a little bit about this paddle specifically so this is a new shape uh this is the Magnus and it has uh it's slightly it's got a larger face than the Hyperion and or I guess the Perseus this is the Perseus straight edge at the top um but gives you a little bit more this is I got to say this is my favorite paddle of the bunch uh this is the 14 mm we're looking at here the 16 mm is the one that I kind of resonated with um tell us why that shape yeah so I've been using that shape um since 2018 Built My First inure pwle with cker 201 18 and then um that was the ampt and Victa uh white gold and black and then uh in 20202 Built My cature My built my second cature paddle with with cker which is the power air edgeless cut out the whole deal white gold and black as well and yeah just always been a fan of the shape obviously coming from tennis I felt like that shape suited me uh gave me more swing speed allowed me to kind of Swing free I didn't feel like the width uh made me suffer uh while I was dinking or hitting drops for any of the soft game and I think this paddle is suitable for uh racket sport players and it's suitable for non-rack sport players and um yeah so uh and and obviously um you know Yola didn't didn't have this shape uh in their in their in their paddle line so uh yeah and I I truly feel like this this technology it it's like there's I'm playing with a tennis racket and there's strings in that tennis racket right uh I'm getting more RPMs uh there's plenty of dwell time with the carbon fiber this is my first time using carbon fiber uh I've totally had to make some little Nuance changes in my own game with adding more wrist in trusting the spin a bit more trusting the shape and um you know I think uh if there was one area that I that I lacked in it was playing singles and hitting backhand returns and slicing my backend return I I just felt like uh with the previous battle I was playing with I wasn't getting enough on it with with uh this new tech I feel like it's totally enhanced my backend return I'm getting more getting more slice it's penetrating through the court I'm getting good getting good depth and um obviously not not only is it spinny with DW time but there's plenty of feel it's very forgiving soft as could be plays like a pillow but anytime you need to thump it and and you need to get some out of pop it plays like a sword I agree you are you playing with the 14 so you know what um I was a fan of the 14 and the last couple weeks I've been dabbling with the 16 as well and um something I've noticed with 16 is that there's even more dwell time and the power difference with the 16 and 14 is actually uh pretty pretty similar I almost think the 16 is more powerful than the 14 yeah yeah so I I think uh you know if you want to go a little stiffer maybe not have as much dwell time I think the 14 makes sense if you feel like your hand speed is too clunky and heavy with the 16 and like you're having a hard time getting it around from A to B I think the 14 makes sense but um yeah if you're looking for like that all-inclusive package where you you don't feel like your hands are clunky and you're getting plenty of dwell time and the power similar I think I think the 16 dep definitely makes sense so you talk about the power you're able to generate and almost having like strings in there right uh I I get the feeling that we're seeing the ability for tennis players to come in and be able to rip the ball from the Baseline and not have to hit thirds right does that change the Integrity of the game I'm not going to say it changes the Integrity but it makes that transition a lot easier right um is that is that good for the game um obviously for the for the players that started playing at a time where there wasn't a whole lot of power and paddles I don't think it does them Justice I don't I don't think it's fair to a certain degree but um you know because obviously there's a there's a certain art and being disciplined in transition and dropping the right way and dinking the right way and like understanding from like a textbook standpoint just how much dinking plays a part and um yeah obviously like the game's speeding up the game's getting faster there's younger athletes coming in there's this influx of a bunch of stud uh tennis players that are stting to make their way in uh Jack sock is one of them um playing at a super high level I think Jack's been playing now for about about a year and he's already like a a top top 15 top 10 guy and professionally for a year but he's been playing pick ball for a long time I mean right right I mean he he states that he's been playing like competitively for the last year or so right um but uh yeah I think uh I think there's still plenty of dinking in play I think uh from a shot selection standpoint players are still using drops and dinks and like recognizing if they're on defense they have to neutralize by hitting a soft one but um just the power game is enhanced right they're getting more on the serve like the serve is more of a weapon they're getting more on the drive now we're starting to see players you know wear wear glasses and things like that I think um there going to be excuse me there's going to be some players that are getting some Big Brand endorsements from a uh glasses company here here very soon um from breaking news are you are you signing one of those I haven't touched I haven't talked to anybody no and if I was to uh talk to a a glasses company or sunglasses company it would have to be uh in the shape that I like the last thing I would do is to be wearing some glass and that's like with stars over the Wes right right totally um but I think yeah just from like a safety standpoint you know when you're 14 feet away and you're speeding it from the kitchen line and now we're starting to see players like speed up at a percentage or out of pace that's more of a bailout spe that they're almost trying to like body back their opponent right um we saw that in the match you played in we we saw we saw plenty of that right so I just think um yeah there needs to be like a certain threshold and um but yeah I think the sport is in a very unique position right now where yeah paddles are getting more uh Lively and the ball that we're playing with right now not going to lie I think it I think it enhances power it definitely suits power and uh I think just for TV purposes for for viewership um it it may just make it a bit more entertaining when the when the points are a bit more drawn out and there's more transition from defense to offense offense to defense and it's kind of tougher to put the ball away where do you see the paddle technology going do you see regulation coming in to say hey we're going to we're going to we're going to tone it down a little bit we're going to go backwards or we're going to stop here or we're going to let it go yeah I think um I think the P of Technology right now um I think we should cap it at that I I think if anything we should go to a ball that is just a bit more forgiving it's a little softer um it doesn't have this extreme difference in Pace with with temperature and stuff like that if you know what I mean um but um yeah I think what people want to see they want to see long drawn out points they don't want to see the sport um being turned into like a racket ball where it's tough to see on TV or tennis where it's mainly dominated by the C right so um keep keep pickle ball you know in a position where we're like at the pro level they're having 20 to 30 ball rallies and you're and you're seeing the athleticism in movement and you're seeing the art and dinking and all the above um and I I mean we were we were on neker island we talked to uh Steve Bellamy or you you talked with Steve Bellamy and some of the things that he talked about with the tennis channel was just adding different camera angles or adding adding different speakers and just telling a better story and that way uh just dinking uh it looks better and you can see the art in it it just and it does it justice right great all right tyon thanks appreciate man appreciate it y
