John Petrucci Guitar Camp in California

all right time for signing session so here i am at the helsinki airport ready to go to nashville for the rehearsals and the tour so let's go uh you know what i was missing the airport life you know expensive water expensive coffee waiting hours and hours seeing a lot of different people it's fun you know it's fun and everybody with a mask now so yeah pretty different so i was missing this life you know this weird place here that everybody has just to sit for hours so here we are in anaheim california this is the anaheim convention center so every year we have the namm show uh here and this year we have the jumper tucci guitar universe good memories from the namm show years so it's gonna be the four days of insanity this is like a dream come true here we are inside the hotel and so the idea is basically to do master classes every day so john petrucci has one master class every day and uh all the you know all the guitar players they're doing two master classes so i'm doing the beginners in the morning and advanced in the afternoon and in between my master classes we have petrucci's master class and the show at night so we have john petrucci tosinabasi mateos asado jason richardson andy wood and myself and uh yeah it's uh it's pretty challenging because everybody's so good so good and uh yeah so you know it's so inspiring to see those uh great players and to hang with them to talk about life to talk about music to talk about anything and sharing our experiences and you know so many people here like maybe 200 uh students so it is a fun thing to do those guitar camps i was missing to play live so yeah so yeah that's a hotel yeah free defense you know pretty fancy yeah so of course you have some stores because we are in america and of course people want to buy stuff and then of course you have a starbucks as well because every place you go you have to have the pizza place and starbucks now get into the area of the camp let me show you so that's where i'm doing my master classes you know as you can see that's my equipment it's a big room just for me but yeah it's fun it's pretty cold as well you know yeah so let's see what's going on are you selling those uh no they're just for demo it's just for example yeah but we are giving that one away over there if you want to sign up giveaway uh let's see what's happening now okay come with me i will show you i will show you oh and here's some guitar i mean this is like a little bit of technique and a very simple concept um yeah it's a mixer sound or an acoustic sound identifying those thirds in there knowing that they're in the key of a minor in this case so the a is going to definitely work holding that up right knowing that in that is also a b that's gonna work oh that's kind of cool time for a signing session all right so here we are again are you ready for one hour uh photograph all this is for them yeah at least yeah it'll be cool yeah here we go so where should we sit you can sit anywhere you'd like an empty table all right okay that's my place all right are you ready so okay show me your secrets this is you ever use pentatonix from a different point in in so like instead of playing like um i'm kind of making a major sound by playing the pentatonic off of the third of e so i kind of like uh so this is pretty cool repeated notes right you can do like a i'm just like almost picking with my thumb but if you start to combine hammer lines and other fingers it's similar to classical like the way you're playing with your hands like amazing amazing you know show me the the groove of the the song that you played there jesus that was so cool because uh it was groovy yeah it's like more syncopated it's a groovy and uh you know but it's you know choice better lower the tempo it'd be like so those triplets and all that stuff yeah there's this thing i've been working on that's kind of kind of interesting with the pick it's taking the same sort of that sort of thing where you you hammer a note and then you pick the rest yeah yeah yeah but i started doing with arpeggios you know like um so that sort of thing that's so cool that's a mina's chord when i'm trying a guitar neck or just a guitar in general i started doing this chord because for some reason it's like that shape allows me to feel yeah this guitar is great man the tone is like i noticed when you were playing like how how pure the queens can be
