today i've got eight jobs that will pay you more than being a doctor in the uk and some of them might surprise you so stay tuned [Music] welcome back guys my name is dr dude i'm an orthopedic surgeon and content creator based here in london and today i want to talk to you about eight jobs that pay you more than being a doctor in the nhs here in the uk first things first please hit that like button if you find this video to be useful it lets you to know that this video is valuable and basically stops putting it on the shelf and let me know your thoughts in the comments and be sure to follow me on socials if you want to know a little bit more about what it's like to be a surgeon in the uk so let's jump straight in i think that people have often felt as though you really need a degree to get a good job and that is no longer really the case when you graduate and you become an intern or what we call an fy1 your starting salary is pretty poor and then it's really an uphill challenge from there there are lots of exams lots of training assessments recruitment processes interviews it is really not an easy career path for me that was 12 years of training after five years of medical school and then when you become a consultant your starting salary is 79 000 pounds and that's not a great deal of money but the thing we miss out most on is time opportunity because whilst other professionals are earning that money earlier in their career they're able to buy properties and invest and we kind of miss out on the power of compound interest and so unsurprisingly a lot of doctors do get to the end and then decide that actually they want to supplement the nhs salary with other things such as private practice education medical legal consulting etc so today we're going to concentrate on jobs that pay you more than approximately 80 to 100 000 pounds which is what you would earn roughly as a consultant from the nhs first of all i want to say a big thank you to our sponsors today datacamp datacamp have over 300 bite-sized courses to get you up to speed in almost anything within data sites including coding programming or simply just working with data within excel they have video courses and interactive time with hundreds of available instructors and you can work through them at your own pace the applied finance section is a standout for me it will teach you how to manage your money better by creating financial systems to value your investments and track your money better you no longer need a formal degree to work at a tech firm you just need to be motivated and have new ways of thinking and when you complete one of these courses you will get a certificate which you of course can put on your resume or your cv but it will definitely make you a more valuable candidate by using the link in the description datacamp are allowing you to try out the first chapter of any of their courses for free the first job is an air traffic controller now this one kind of surprised me when i started the research have you been on the airplane and you've seen those guys on the tarmac with their high-vis jackets and their luminous battens well those guys are responsible for the safety of thousands of passengers they are there to coordinate the aircraft in their ascent and their landing and i did not know but they earn 2 000 pounds per week which puts them roughly in the ballpark of about 100 000 pounds now no specific qualification is required you will have to undergo training and from what i'm led to believe it is quite competitive but equally i think that's a great option you can earn good money and if you're interested in aviation but not necessarily wanting to be a pilot it's a fantastic option the next is a recruitment consultant now these guys work usually for an agency and their job is to find the best candidates for companies or place people who are looking for work in relevant roles but again no specific qualifications are required of course the entry salary is not going to be great and i'm not concentrating really on the entry salary because it is poor even as a doctor but we're looking at what you can earn potentially and i think people who have been working in recruitment for some time can expect to earn between 50 to 100 000 pounds but actually what is more impressive is the kind of top limit is really uncapped because it is a commission based role and so there were lots of people earning way above 100 000 pounds but you do need a set of skills which means you need to be good at sales good at speaking to people you need to be confident and you probably need some experience in similar job roles though no qualifications are required it's certainly not easy it's target driven it's performance based your commission is going to be based on whether you reach your targets or not if you're somebody who performs well under pressure go for it who knows what the ceiling could be being an estate agent you don't need any formal qualifications i think about the only requirement is to have a uk driver's license but again you will need some experience in sales you will need to be confident be able to speak to people and again the entry level salary is not going to be great but actually an experienced estate agent can expect to make between 50 to 100 000 pounds and again the ceiling really is uncapped because it's based on commission so if you're selling high-end properties in london then you know who knows what you could earn but you know equally most of us won't be doing that but you can certainly expect to earn very well if you are again somebody who thrives under pressure who enjoys targets and enjoys performance-based work the next one kind of blows my mind but i guess it shouldn't because we all know that trans people can be well paid and that is being an electrician again being an entry-level electrician such as an apprentice i think you will get paid about 14 000 pounds but remember that is training and even doctors don't get paid to train but salaried electrician can expect to earn between 40 to 75 000 pounds but if you become a company owner self-employed independent electrician you can earn upwards of a hundred thousand pounds and because of the boom in new build homes and property development they are in high demand and there aren't enough apparently skilled and qualified electricians at this present moment in time and so those who can do the job are inundated with work and there's an article in the daily mail which says there are a lot of electricians earning over a hundred and fifty thousand pounds you don't need a university degree but you do need a nvq electro technical services qualification look it up i'm not quite sure but that could be a good career if you're looking for something to do the next one is a chief executive and these really are very senior managers but they are amongst the highest paid employees in the country you will need a degree usually business or management based and of course you need a lot of work experience within management chief executives are in charge of organizing and coordinating financial activities within a organization or company we have chief executives who run hospitals we have chief executives who run businesses and essentially their job is to make sure that companies are meeting their financial goals and implementing long-term financial strategies their job is also to appoint talented and skilled professionals to run departments and drive that company in the direction that it needs to go and as well as that there's a lot of mentoring and it's really a senior leadership position and if you're somebody who enjoys business enjoys finance enjoys leadership and mentoring this may be something that you could set your sights on of course there is no direct path to becoming a chief executive you really just have to be a good manager a good leader have the experience and the focus and really just go for chief executives can earn up to 250 000 pounds per year so this one probably won't surprise anybody and that is investment banking venture capital and private equity you usually do need a degree and some relevant professional experience their job essentially is to help companies raise money for projects and improvements in the future they help businesses invest money raise capital and achieve their long-term financial goals it can open a door to a very niche and high paying field you usually start as an associate and work your way up and you can easily earn six figures but you have the potential to earn millions if you are around long enough to see your investments really take off much to the dismay of many doctors the next are dentists and orthodontists now obviously you have to go to dental school but if you're interested in healthcare not necessarily wanting to become a doctor this is also a fantastic option you will spend a few years training and then treat many conditions to do with the teeth and oral health you have more flexibility in terms of how you work and the private sector is pretty large so you can earn approximately a hundred and twenty thousand pounds per year this is the last one and it really shouldn't be a surprise to anybody and that is a professional content creator now this one is quite difficult because everybody has a camera phone and everybody is creating and shooting and posting content but if you manage to be one of the select few who rise above us mere mortals and turn this into a business really the amount you can earn is uncapped we have got content creators now quitting their jobs doing this full time and earning more than six figure salaries no specific qualifications are required so the barrier to entry is low but you do need a specific set of skills and these include things like design photography basic video editing sales writing speaking but in this new world we have young people forging their careers getting to do things that they love and getting paid for it getting to travel the world and take on new experiences and create a business around that one of the reasons they earn so well is because they have absolutely nailed the pursuit of developing multiple revenue streams these include selling digital or physical products brand sponsorships ad revenue getting paid for speaking engagements course sales and more there are a lot of young talented creators who are making six figures per month in their 20s without any qualifications if you're still here thanks for watching please hit that like button because it tells youtube not to bench this video and follow me on socials to keep up with the day-to-day life of being a surgeon here in london which does get crazy and don't forget to
