I haven't had a job in five years and in the same five year period my husband has had exactly one job that lasted less than a year that job ended in December of 2022. since then neither of us have tried to look for another job I've done a lot of videos on ways to save money how to eat healthy on a very low grocery budget how to cut your monthly expenses down to the Bare Bones and how our family of five has fun without spending any money but you can only reduce your expenses so much and having money even if you're not spending it makes for a much less stressful life being Frugal isn't just about being intentional in the way that you spend your money but it's also being intentional with the way that you spend your time just like money is a finite resource your time is as well if saving money is important to you because you want want to be intentional in the ways that you spend your money then the concept of being Frugal with your time should be even more valuable to you time is the most precious thing we have we are only given so much of it and we don't even know how much that is making sure you're spending your time with intention can radically improve the quality of your life after my husband lost his job at the end of last year our income was cut dramatically and we began living on our Bare Bones budget our Bare Bones budget is the budget that we have ready to put in place in case we're ever in a financial emergency where we are spending only the bare minimum amount of money that we need in order to survive so we cancel some bills say no to any extra spending for fun or entertainment and even go without things Like New clothing or household items or personal items that we don't absolutely need this budget is not sustainable and is only meant to be temporary while we are making a plan to increase our income when my husband lost his job it was scary we had just had a baby and then our income was drastically reduced we've always done side hustles like instacart or doordash because we believe in having multiple streams of income just in case a situation like this comes up and then these gig apps are also really good ways to just make extra money in addition to a full-time job but the money that we were making doing these side hustle apps was just enough to pay our bills my husband's job loss ended up being a blessing in disguise he would have had to have spend most of his waking hours working just days after our baby was born instead he was able to stay home and bond with this child something that American jobs just don't value when there is a job loss usually the first thing that people do is jump right into the first reasonable job offer that comes their way you have bills to pay and a lifestyle to maintain so you need money to pay for those things one of the seemingly crazy things that we didn't do is my husband didn't run out and take the first low-paying job that came his way I've received a lot of comments about this in previous videos people have a lot of opinions to share most of them centered around that my husband must be lazy but we were making it work with our Bare Bones budget with the side hustles that we had going and we knew that it was going to be better for us in the long run if we worked out a more long-term plan we knew we wanted something different from just your typical nine to five job and we knew we wanted that to be very intentional there's absolutely nothing wrong with working a job if you are content and you enjoy what you do all of my previous jobs I have enjoyed for the most part but they were low paying jobs that took up a whole lot of my time the value just wasn't there my very first job was making minimum wage working at a pet adoption center I actually really like this job but I was only making I think it was 5.75 at the time I was able to move out of my parents house and pay rent and all my bills on this minimum wage income after I graduated college I started working as a preschool teacher for Head Start and again I enjoyed this job but I was only making 11.50 or so an hour this was like eight to ten years ago and even making that little amount of money I was able to make it work and pay on my bills I was a single mom and I was even able to get a mortgage for a house making this income but today things are different the amount of money that you need in order to pay all of your bills and just survive is rising sharply people cannot afford to live on these low-paying jobs anymore and if you do have a minimum wage or even quite a bit above minimum wage depending on what state you're in you need two or three jobs just to pay your very basic expenses we knew that if my husband took a low paying job right away that it still wasn't going to be enough to pay all of our bills so we decided to spend our time creating a better long-term plan we really all need to do that you see when you're working a job you're limiting yourself to only making as much as your employer is willing to compensate you you're limiting your free time by giving up 40 or so hours a week to your employer to be able to tell you when and where to come into work your time becomes secondary to the needs of your employer yes we all need money to survive but maybe there's a better way to obtain it a way that gives us our time back and also doesn't limit the amount of money we are able to make maybe you can still stay home with your children but also make money maybe you can travel while making money or maybe you're on a fixed income maybe Social Security and you just need to make a little bit of extra money to provide you with the life that you want like I mentioned at the beginning of this video my husband and I have spent most of the last five years without a job but that doesn't mean we haven't worked or we haven't made an income we've always had an income coming in even if that was in unconventional ways so we started on our new plan immediately after my husband lost his job now six months later our plan is in action and our income is slowly beginning to increase we are now almost at the income that my husband was at while he was working his full-time job we are slowly easing up on our Bare Bones budget and beginning to come out on the other side of all of this stress our goal is to never have a job again I know what it's like to live with without a job and I never want to go back again and it's not because I'm lazy it's because I value my time because I don't want to put a limit on my income potential or have someone else tell me how or when or where I'm going to be spending 40 or more hours of my week I want to live with intention I'm going to continue to share my financial Journey on this channel so make sure you're subscribed if you want to keep following along I want to share because I want to encourage others to think outside the box and to show you that normal people like us can make big changes we can live the life that we want and not have to stay stuck in the rat race have you ever thought about how you could make money without a job now I have proof that our jobs are keeping us poor number one is hard work does not equal more money some of the hardest workers out there make the least amount of money nurses teachers construction workers if you people in these jobs work incredibly hard but are not making a lot of money I mean being a parent is arguably the most challenging job and we do that for free in contrast the easiest way to make money is to put a large chunk of money into an investment and letting interest build on that investment that is completely passive and you are not working hard at all this is the main way that wealthy people are making money besides Investments work done by high income earners are not necessarily harder than work done by low-income earners the day-to-day life of a CFO is no more challenging than the day-to-day life of an ER nurse but one of them makes significantly more money the average income of a CFO in the United States is four hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year while the average income of an ER nurse is just 75 five thousand dollars a year so it's really not about working harder it's about working smarter it's about finding better ways to trade your time for more money number two our education system our current education model was designed during the Industrial Revolution so Industries would have workers to employ in their factories so our education system was designed so that you will be a good employee to your employer you will get paid a set amount for your time an amount that you will have a little control over yes you could do your job well and get a small raise or you could get a degree and climb up the ladder but when you're working for someone else your income is capped at the amount that your employer is willing to pay you and there are always more workers behind you that are willing to accept the job for Less you are never in complete control of your time or your income this system is comforting for some but not for others if you're someone who feels trapped by the system it's time to make a plan to escape we live in a culture of work more so we can spend more do more so we can have more but what would happen if you actively chose to do check out this video for 12 things that you could start doing less of that may even be considered lazy that will start saving you time and money
