Joas & Dad Play Music Together

[Music] do well today is sunday afternoon and uh my dad and uh this i'm in my dad mom's house my dad has been wanting me to come down he was wanting to do some music together so i brought my guitar and he's going to be playing his mandolin and we're here in his house with that and mama brought all the kiddos along and so we're going to be doing some music so enjoy this is inside their house if you haven't seen it before it's my dad and my mom they're both almost uh they're 86 going to 87. still going pretty strong mom's a little bit not quite as strong as she used to be but otherwise she's doing pretty good this is their house that we they had a house fire here a year ago just over a year actually yeah last week a year ago and we redid all the floors and walls and stairways and put new lights in for them and a new kitchen and everything so it's a lot a lot different than it used to be when i grew up here so this is a guitar that was made locally by a local artist and it's a bent twig and i made a video of this guitar um when i got it a couple years ago but it's got a lot of really cool uh features on it there you can see bent twig logo in there if you can see it's kind of fuzzy um but yeah it's got like these um little dots these are elk for my elk ivories uh and this is uh that's bighorn sheep that little logo the woodpecker there and then like down here i've got uh moose right there i've got an authentic indian arrowhead right in there from montana that's the back of the guitar uh zeracode wood this is some maple wood right there and up here from the second great awakening in america uh from a tree that stood by the the meeting house so it's kind of got a lot of cool things about the guitar they're pretty special and what do you have today dad well i finally got my mandolin back but i'm pretty green this is supposed to be just a kind of a practice session it's not not professional by any means we're just gonna have fun that's the main thing i didn't play music for at least 45 years back when dad was in uh dad you were in the service which basically you were a conscientious objector in the what vietnam war or korean war and then dad worked in a hospital for how many years two years so i worked in hospitals for two years and then so he played a lot of music when he was in the doing that and so then he was out of it for a long time because he was a good amish man so he couldn't have any instruments until later in his life well it'd be had to be my music or my wife so i chose my wife good good point [Music] [Applause] [Music] so do do do [Music] do [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] is [Music] is let us talk of all this wondrous love and care then when all the [Music] is [Music] a little treat for you this is my dad and this is my sister leona and leona is staying here with dad and mom to help take care of them she lives in the upstairs and so i said jump in and let's do this song so that's funny [Music] my god is so big so strong and so mighty [Music] [Music] all right good job that's all my little kid i was singing with dad and mom that's pretty special that's a video we'll always cherish i'm sure [Music] he is [Music] jesus loves me yes jesus loves me yes jesus loves me the bible tells me so all right [Music] all right [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] you
