you know we're in the business of home that's what we've done for almost 15 years whether it be flipping houses for people to buy them to create home for themselves or renovating or even just at the market this whole business of home is something we take very personally we don't take it lightly home is honestly the most important place on earth when I think about where my family is where my wife is where those knuckleheaded dogs are that's home to me homes where the goats are I like the ring by that you know I don't really care about the bits and pieces I don't really need the four car garage home for me is wherever joy it is just because that's where my heart set for the first maybe ten years of our marriage we've been in so many different homes so I've had to learn what home is what used to be oh I've got to make my sofa and my chair everything when people walk in I want them to feel this oh she knows what she's doing from a design standpoint I mean in the beginning that was really my mindset hoping that there would be some type of stamp of approval that felt fleeting and it felt like every week I was on to something else but never fully satisfied where now I'm like home is just being there a place where when chip walks in the door that there's a place that we've carved out just for Dad and then for the kids whether it be dinner being in the garden just being together that's home to us now I remember when I first started the blog I had this little tagline it was the Magnolia mom home it's your space own it so now I think it's more about home it's your story helot it's no longer about the idea of perfect spaces expectations and rules it's your story and we want to know your story when I first started realizing that Joe had a real gift it was really early on in her shop over on Bosque so we had this little tiny building and Joe started filling this little shop with all the Nicki home decor items yeah and when I saw those those customers really start making those connections with Joe I realized that she had a real gift for this we started out thinking that this show was about construction and it's actually turned into a lot more than that it's turned out to be a show about love a show about family a show about your home before all of this happened we had to look each other in the eye and say who are we and who are we going to be when this is all over for us it was we want to love each other we want to love well our four babies our biggest priority and we want to do good work that matters in the end we want to look back and say we did it we stayed true to those three things I'd say the number one question we get asked is can you and chip come help us with our home and it's funny first season I looked into like hundreds of requests we would get all these emails and he'd print them out and say team how can we go to Fort Lauderdale unlike chip come on you know we're not going to news this heart was really I want to help people they need help I want to go and help them we went to mihaylo one to me it was just 28 miles that everybody calls it Mexia so that felt like it was kind of like going to another country we've got four kids we can't go to New Zealand no but but I think that's what really inspired us with other thing we can create a company in Waco Texas that services everybody's renovation around the world but we can create products that they can take and implement their renovations all over the world I've tried to be really strategic with these collections that because I really want these to be a way of saying here you can do this with a furniture or the rugs wallpaper paint whatever it may be these are tools that hopefully encourage you and inspire you to take that next step but you know early on for us one of my biggest mistakes I'd make almost on every job was paint and that would be the most costly mistake I remember one time I painted our house I really thought it was gonna be a light tan buttercream you called it buttercream was the goal but I looked at the swash and I remember holding it out there going I call the painter execute the buttercream execute the buttercream we're going on vacation we're going on a three-day vacation I remember this we get home three days later and you have neighbors standing outside you'll enjoy by going like this to actually on the on the paint chip it says yellow it didn't know she thought that said buttercream it was like highlighter yellow and I remember sitting there crying it cost eleven thousand dollars to paint that entire exterior so for me I don't want people feeling like that so that was really the heart behind the paint line I want people to see this palette and know that someone that has painted over 250 homes may have an eye for what should and shouldn't be color like if you want a green I'm gonna give you three greens I'm not giving you 100 grains so that when you leave you feel like I can do this with all the collections I didn't want to just narrow in on one specific style I really wanted it to speak to a lot of people so that they didn't feel confined to one specific look you can really look at it and go I'm modern I'm really drawn to this I'm eclectic I really like this I really wanted it to be a space where people felt like they could have fun in creating their own unique story for their home you know what I really love is when people start showing me pictures of their living room and saying Joe look what I did and that's the biggest reward in all this is that people are kind of picking up and saying I can do this too you can do this tell your own story it's gonna be a perfect blend chef I don't get scared like you as far as demo really is that all you have don't Joey don't [Music]
