Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I have a poster of this man in my room and I have the News and Observer (local Raleigh newspaper) from the day he died framed beside it. It has the transcript of this speech, and I read it every few days when I get stressed out or something.
"Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are goingΒ to carry on forever."
If you have any extra money you'd like to donate, go check out the V foundation website.
God, family, and Green Bay Packers!
For NC State's alumni and fans, here is the more personal speech he gave at Reynolds Coliseum:

at the 13:45 mark, Valvano starts speaking after being introduced by then-head football coach Dick Sheridan.
I've seen that speech 20 times and it still gets me.
Wish I had 1/10th of his charisma.
This speech is insanely inspirational, every time.
I cannot stress enough that everyone here should watch the 30 for 30 film about the '83 team - Survive & Advance. It was really excellently made, and discusses V and his legacy in solid detail.
We are lucky enough to have Coach Valvano's brother Bob call the games here in Louisville. He adds so much to the games, not just in his knowledge of the game but in his passion for it. I'm even luckier to have known him through hockey. Love hearing his stories about his big brother.
Last year during the auction drive I got drunk and bid something absurd like $2500 for ESPN to come broadcast a pond hockey tournament I was going to. Thank god some rich fathers got in a bidding war to get their kids on the air.
This always gets to me. I've also made my kids watch it. It's one of those things that everyone should see. It doesn't matter whether he was a coach or a janitor, that is one of the most inspirational speeches ever.
