Jim Lampley - Canelo NOT SCARED of Benavidez; Fought GGG in prime twice!

thoughts thrilling exciting fight great for the crowd great for uh Mexican boxing uh great for Canelo Alvarez great for mongia really he uh he was Spirited he was Brave he was beautiful in the early rounds he gave the crowd a sense that maybe had a chance to win the fight uh and at the end of the day he didn't have a chance to win the fight but because of the two things that make Canelo Alvarez what he is his amazing punch resistance people call it a chin I think it's really his legs but his ability to take a punch is unlike anybody else in the sport uh and his counterpunching skill you know he he takes what you bring to him and he comes back with those stutting shots knows when to go to the body he knows when he's got you ready to start going to the head and he wound up doing two to Mia what he's done to a lot of other guys late in the fight the conclusion that my mind came to was hey if you survived Gennady Golovkin twice he wasn't really going to be in danger against this guy uh and I love Mia but at the end of the day uh the the Canelo Alvarez who twice survived Gennady Golovkin was just too great to be in any danger tonight okay for you in your opinion does it say more about ha or more about Canelo that Canelo couldn't stop a that Canelo what couldn't stop him tonight well I think that says more about haime I mean I you know I give him credit he's he's a spirited young fighter had Freddy roach in his Corner uh caneda didn't want to take any unwarranted chance in the later rounds seeking to put the cherry on the Sunday because he knew he was winning the rounds he was winning round after round after round from the midpoint of the fight on so there was no danger he was going to lose uh just keep doing what he does hit uh mongia over and over with those thuing counter shots and take whatever the kid had to offer uh and that's that's what canelo's been doing his whole career I called 12 years ago the only knockdown ever it was a freak knockdown because he got knocked into the ropes he bounced off the ropes the referee chose to rule it a knockdown he's never been on the canvas he's never been on his back and you know and and in all of these fights that's an amazing accomplishment and he is an amazing fighter if you had a pick based on that performance there and the performance that David had in November against Demetrius andreid who would you pick first of all you know David Ben aidus is Cosmic sighting spectacular Etc but you're talking about the evidence of one fight Canelo Alvarez you're talking about the evidence of 70 fights uh I don't know enough about David Benevides to say to you oh he's going to beat uh Canelo Alvarez he's going to knock out a guy that nobody else has ever really been able to put on the canvas do I think that David is a cosmic puncher the biggest I've ever seen at that weight I do believe that uh do I believe it's a fight that we need to see that has to happen that needs to take place in the wake of this I do believe that and and I've never seen Canelo back down from challenge he fought Gennady Golovkin twice why would he be scared of David Ben Abus
