allows for less fortunate students to receive one new pair of shoes anytime during the school year at absolutely no cost to them so we're really excited that first united methodist church for the last 27 years has adopted really our students in the school district and we created in his step shoe bank where they provide shoes for some of our less fortunate students it came from a bible study and it developed into okay you studied this so now what are you going to do about it and because of that study we decided to do the shoe bank because we started looking at needs and a big chunk of the people who were in the bible study were teachers or educators or principals and so it just evolved we want to make sure that the kids have their basic needs to be able to come to school and feel comfortable you know most importantly because if they're wearing shoes that are too tight or too big they're not going to be comfortable during the school days they're not going to be able to function 19th edinburgh cisd in partnership with hidalgo county precinct four celebrated the ribbon cutting of the newest park in the small community of lynn salmonell during the day the the children from brewster are going to have a class a park they can come and enjoy then after school hours the community can come and also participate and enjoy all the amenities that it has to offer and what i love about it is it gives respect back to all our veterans and in honor of them this is why this park is built edinburgh cisd superintendent dr salinas expresses how this park is essential for the residents in this area on an evening night or on a weekend to come and enjoy the park with their families they don't have to travel all the way to edinburgh or to mcallen they have it here as you know we think that these kind of activities are really really important for for our students and and we made it happen along with commissioner torres the residents in the surrounding area will be able to enjoy this new park and all the amenities it has to offer well this brings an opportunity for families to gather and celebrate for camaraderie we also honor our veterans that's why we named it the lynn salmon oil veterans park and it's just a great opportunity to keep up with their health with the trail that we've got for walking exercise uh we've got sporting uh the softball the softball field the baseball field for sporting events and of course a playscape a big pavilion for gatherings and future functions so it's a win-win not only for the school but also for the community parents and members of the community are very excited about the opening of the lynn samanuel veterans park it's really nice to have an actual baseball and a softball field for our kids so that way that they can learn the game better and be able to compete more with the the bigger junior highs and potentially start really getting ours kids so much more involved with edinburgh north or economies whichever schools that they decide to go to we hope the community enjoys the park for many years to come i'm lisa ayala hitler with edinburg cisd your district of choice september is childhood cancer awareness month and at thursday's edinburgh high school football game the ehs cheerleaders had a special guest joining them for their pregame show cancer survivor hayden penelope martinez was our honorary cheer captain for the evening when six-year-old hayden found out she was going to be on the field with the ehs cheerleaders her mother jacqueline martinez says it was like a dream jacqueline talks about hayden's cancer and cheer journey and the gratitude she feels having her daughter be an honorary cheer captain for the pre-game show when she first got diagnosed she had just started a competitive cheer so that's one thing that she's always wanted to do she wanted to get back into competitive cheer she always talks about the cheerleaders she loves to see them so when they made her an honorary bobcat cheerleader she was just thrilled mrs martinez explains how it melted her heart knowing her daughter was included in the special day because it not only made her daughter feel incredible but it helped raise awareness about childhood cancer it feels good to know that you have so many people behind you supporting you it really touches your heart because you know that you have somebody to lean on we want to say thank you to everybody thank you to brought to the bobcats to eva to the greater gold everybody for coming together and putting this on for our daughter and bringing awareness that it does exist and there are foundations here in the valley that do come together and are helping out the children at the valley who are still battling cancer the greater gold foundation helps raise childhood cancer awareness and more importantly raise funds to financially assist families in the rgb facing childhood cancer diagnosis president of the greater gold maritza esqueda talks about hayden's experience i met hayden two years ago when she was first diagnosed she had wilms tumor kidney cancer and she you know she had a heart she had a really hard time super sweet little girl i had met eva who is your cheerleader sponsor um she also she lost a child to childhood cancer and so her and i met a few years ago then when i met hayden i said you guys have to meet each other you know she's from edinburgh she loves the bobcat cheerleaders and then obviously eva just kind of took her in got her uniform and the rest is history cheer coach eva guerda talks about her personal experience with the greater gold foundation and the reason she's devoted to helping spread and raise awareness five years ago when i was pregnant with avery we found out that she was gonna have leukemia she was born with leukemia and as soon as she was born she had to have chemotherapy ultimately she ended up passing away and so ever since then i've kept up with the foundation as a way of keeping her memory alive hayden actually i met about two years ago when she was actually battling a form of kidney cancer and she loves cheerleading and they love the edinburgh bobcat cheer program so i talked to varsity spirit and they sponsored her uniform and her palms and her bow and today we got to get her out here and to perform now that she's in remission and she's healthy and you know kovit is kind of under control we're able to have her out here so we're super excited to have her with us senior varsity cheerleader destiny swope talks about the support within her team and community we have a facility here that helps the children and it's a big thing just to help out because you know first off everyone can donate that money so it's more like you donate your love and support towards the community it feels awesome to be there for her because throughout the time where she started her remission and all that she got it back to being trinity and i think with us being there for her and her supporting us it makes us feel like welcome into the community more and more every day we would like to thank the ehs cheerleaders and the greater gold foundation for helping raise childhood cancer awareness i'm dominique de la rosa with eddie brooks ciad your district of choice edinburgh cisd is now accepting children as young as three years old for their all-day pre-k 3 program this program was implemented during the 2021-2022 school year freddie gonzalez elementary pre-k 3 teacher deborah ramirez expresses her excitement about being back in the classroom teaching pre-k3 is very very important it's a basic foundation for the future of our new students that are coming into any campus and into our community these are the basic foundations that we need to set as pre-k-3 teachers to serve our community better not only that for student success mr ramirez shares the importance of having face-to-face instruction especially with the younger kiddos in person you're able to demonstrate your emotions you're able to do a lot of hands-on it is so important for pre-k 3 to have their curious minds be so creative being more creative in front of a camera is not not so much accessible but when you're in person you're able to develop an imagination a new world for them and the hands-on growing everyone is so different and as a teacher when you're teaching in person you're able to see each individual needs of a student in person how they react did they understand the concept you're able to ask questions and really comprehend did they really learn the objectives that we were teaching them that day mr amita shares how she considers teaching pre-k3 a blessing their minds are so energetic they are like sponges they absorb everything you're teaching so everything that you teach every action that you make every words emotions they take in and they share with others and it's beautiful to see the innocence of children learning within our times now that we have the covet 19 and it's amazing that they're so resilient teachers are doing their best to ensure the classroom is a safe and clean learning environment some protocols that we're taking we have sanitizer at all tables we're making sure that they are trying to keep the three feet apart and just trying to make it feel safe and comfortable also we have to also remember the emotions that these children are coming in with as an adult we have emotions too coming back to a covet environment and the little ones too they need to feel that security that everything's going to be okay and in their own pace and their own time and feel comfortable and to be expressive and be little independent thinkers edinburg cisd currently has over 1800 students enrolled in their pre-k 3 and 4 programs throughout the district campuses if you'd like to enroll your child all you have to do is call 956-289-2300 reporting for edinburgh cisd media i'm anna avila new law goes into effect september first it will affect communities across the state of texas we spoke to edinburgh cisd police chief ricardo perez about how he will keep the safety and security of our students and staff a priority yeah uh the law goes into effect today september 1st house bill 1927 it's called constitutional carry which means that if you're 21 and older you can legally put it if you can legally possess a firearm you will be able to carry firearm concealed or openly in a holster in a non-prohibited public click you cannot carry a weapon or a handgun into a school district building and and we have signs posted today we're posting signs as we speak these are the signs behind me they will be going up on all school district buildings and all school district jurisdictions the stadium and anywhere that the school district owns property the district wants to assure the community that their safety and security is always the top priority reporting for edinburgh cisd i'm lisa ayala hetler here at edinburg cisd your child's health is our top priority we want to ensure parents that their child is in good hands and we do this by having a registered nurse at every campus deanna davila edinburg cisd's director of health and human services oversees all the rns and lvn's in the district along with keeping them informed about the constantly changing coven 19 protocols and procedures we are a total of 58 nurses right now every high school has two rns every uh middle school has an rn and an lvn and every elementary has one full-time rn aside from their daily duties of being a school nurse they are now adding an extra layer of work to ensure all students on their campus are healthy and safe first thing in the morning it's uh talking with parents i get phone calls or parents coming in either you know dropping off medications or stuff that you know have to be given to the kids throughout the day if we do end up having any positive cases we do i do start by notifying the parents getting ready to you know send out notifications to uh paper notifications as well but i do make a phone call i make contact with them explain the situation and whether or not their child is a close contact or not keeping the parents informed about their child's health is the main goal for our nurses ramirez elementary rn emphasizes that having students back on campus is a great feeling we want your kids here we just want them to know that we're here for them and we'll continue to try and keep them safe as best as we can we do hell hope that the parents will help us out as well if the child is feeling sick or anything like that keep them home let them rest give them plenty of fluids and if they're feeling better send them back the next day once covet 19 vaccinations began to roll out across the nation hidalgo county held mass vaccination sites but didn't have the workforce to issue them in a timely manner edinburgh cisd knew they had to jump in to help vaccinate the community with the shortages of rns and other medical staff right now due to covid our nurses jumped in and agreed to help out so we applied to the state became a provider we became one of the schools first and then we moved on and other schools jumped in as well we started uh training our nurses we got them out there they started vaccinating and the rest is history from very early in the morning we gave lots of vaccines uh which you know i enjoyed because i was glad that the public were coming out and they were getting vaccinated it felt good helping the community and you know getting the vaccines out for them we'd like to thank all of our rns and lvns here at edinburg cisd for their continued hard work and dedication to our students and staff during these unprecedented times i'm anna avila reporting for attenborough cisd made it happen along with commissioner torres the residents in the surrounding area will be able to enjoy this new park in all the amenities it has to offer well this brings an opportunity for families to gather and celebrate for camaraderie we also honor our veterans that's why we named it the lynn salmon oil veterans park and it's just a great opportunity to keep up with their health with the trail that we've got for walking exercise we've got sporting uh the softball the sofa field the baseball field for sporting events and of course a playscape a big pavilion for gatherings and future functions so it's a win-win not only for the school but also for the community parents and members of the community are very excited about the opening of the lynn samanuel veterans park it's really nice to have an actual baseball and a softball field for our kids so that way that they can learn the game better and be able to compete more with the the bigger junior highs and potentially start really getting our kids so much more involved with edinburgh north or economies whichever schools that they decide to go to we hope the community enjoys the park for many years to come i'm lisa ayala hitler with edinburgh cisd your district of choice september is childhood cancer awareness month and at thursday's edinburgh high school football game the ehs cheerleaders had a special guest joining them for the pre-game show cancer survivor hayden penelope martinez was our honorary cheer captain for the evening when six-year-old hayden found out she was going to be on the field with the ehs cheerleaders her mother jacqueline martinez says it was like a dream jacqueline talks about hayden's cancer and cheer journey and the gratitude she feels having her daughter be an honorary cheer captain for the pre-game show when she first got diagnosed she had just started a competitive cheer so that's one thing that she's always wanted to do she wanted to get back into competitive cheer she always talks about the cheerleader she loves to see them so when they made her an honorary vodka cheerleader she was just thrilled mrs martinez explains how it melted her heart knowing her daughter was included in the special day because it not only made her daughter feel incredible but it helped raise awareness about childhood cancer it feels good to know that you have so many people behind you supporting you it really touches your heart because you know that you have somebody to lean on we want to say thank you to everybody thank you to brought to the bobcats to eva to the greater gold everybody for coming together and putting this on for our daughter and bringing awareness that it does exist and there are foundations here in the valley that do come together and are helping out the children of the valley who are still battling cancer the greater gold foundation helps raise childhood cancer awareness and more importantly raise funds to financially assist families in the rgb facing childhood cancer diagnosis president of the greater gold maritza esqueda talks about hayden's experience i met hayden two years ago when she was first diagnosed she had wilms tumor kidney cancer and she you know she had a heart she had a really hard time super sweet little girl i had met eva who is your cheerleader sponsor um she also she lost a child to childhood cancer and so her and i met a few years ago then when i met hayden i said you guys have to meet each other you know she's from edinburgh she loves the bobcat cheerleaders and then obviously eva just kind of took her in got her uniform and uh the rest is history cheer coach eva guerrero talks about her personal experience with the greater gold foundation and the reason she's devoted to helping spread and raise awareness five years ago when i was pregnant with avery we found out that she was gonna have leukemia she was born with leukemia and as soon as she was born she had to have chemotherapy ultimately she ended up passing away and so ever since then i've kept up with the foundation as a way of keeping her memory alive hayden actually i met um about two years ago when she was actually battling a form of kidney cancer and she loves cheerleading and they love the edinburgh bobcat cheer program so i talked to varsity spirit and they sponsored her uniform and her palms and her bow and today we got to get her out here and to perform now that she's in remission and she's healthy and you know kovit is um kind of under control we're able to have her out here so we're super excited to have her with us senior varsity cheerleader destiny swope talks about the support within her team and community we have a facility here that helps the children and it's a big thing just to help out because you know first off not everyone can donate that money so it's more like you donate your love and support towards the community it feels awesome to be there for her because throughout the time where she started her remission and all that she got it back to being true leading and i think with us being there for her and her supporting us it makes us feel like welcome into the community and more and more every day we would like to thank the ehs cheerleaders and the greater gold foundation for helping raise childhood cancer awareness i'm dominique dolorosa with eddie griggs ciad your district of choice edinburgh cisd is now accepting children as young as 3 years old for their all-day pre-k 3 program this program was implemented during the 2021-2022 school year freddie gonzalez elementary pre-k 3 teacher deborah ramirez expresses her excitement about being back in the classroom teaching pre-k3 is very very important it's a basic foundation for the future of our new students that are coming into any campus and into our community these are the basic foundations that we need to set as pre-k3 teachers to serve our community better not only that for student success miss ramirez shares the importance of having face-to-face instruction especially with the younger kiddos in prison you're able to demonstrate your emotions you're able to do a lot of hands-on it is so important for pre-k 3 to have their curious minds be so creative being more creative in front of a camera is not not so much accessible but when you're in person you're able to develop an imagination a new world for them and the hands-on growing everyone is so different and as a teacher when you're teaching in person you're able to see each individual needs of a student in person how they react did they understand the concept you're able to ask questions and really comprehend did they really uh learn the objectives that we were teaching them that day mr ramirez shares how she considers teaching pre-k3 a blessing their minds are so energetic they are like sponges they absorb everything you're teaching so everything that you teach every action that you make every words emotions they take in and they share with others and it's a beautiful to see the innocence of children learning within our times now that we have the covert 19 and it's amazing that they're so resilient teachers are doing their best to ensure the classroom is a safe and clean learning environment some protocols that we're taking we have sanitizer at all tables we're making sure that they are trying to keep the three feet apart and just trying to make it feel safe and comfortable also we have to also remember other emotions that these children are coming in with as an adult we have emotions too coming back to a covet environment and the little ones too they need to feel that security that everything is going to be okay and in their own pace in their own time and feel comfortable and to be expressive and be little independent thinkers edinburg cisd currently has over 1800 students enrolled in their pre-k 3 and 4 programs throughout the district campuses if you'd like to enroll your child all you have to do is call 956-289-2300 carry a weapon or a handgun into a school district building and and we have signs posted today we're posting signs as we speak these are the signs behind me they will be going up on all school district buildings and all schools district jurisdictions the stadium and anywhere that the school district owns property the district wants to assure the community that their safety and security is always a top priority reporting for edinburgh cisd i'm lisa ayala hitler here at edinburg cisd your child's health is our top priority we want to ensure parents that their child is in good hands and we do this by having a registered nurse at every campus deanna davila edinburg cisd's director of health and human services oversees all the rns and lvns in the district along with keeping them informed about the constantly changing coven 19 protocols and procedures we are a total of 58 nurses right now every high school has two rns every middle school has an rn and an lvn and every elementary has one full-time rn aside from their daily duties of being a school nurse they are now adding an extra layer of work to ensure all students on their campus are healthy and safe first thing in the morning it's uh talking with parents i get phone calls or parents coming in either you know dropping off medications or stuff that you know have to be given to the kids throughout the day if we do end up having any positive cases we do i do start by notifying the parents getting ready to you know send out notifications to paper notifications as well but i do make a phone call i make contact with them explain the situation and whether or not their child is a close contact or not keeping the parents informed about their child's health is the main goal for our nurses ramirez elementary rn emphasizes that having students back on campus is a great feeling we want your kids here we just want them to know that we're here for them and we'll continue to try and keep them safe as best as we can we do hope that the parents will help us out as well if the child is feeling sick or anything like that keep them home let them rest give them plenty of fluids and if they're feeling better send them back the next day once covet 19 vaccinations began to roll out across the nation hidalgo county held mass vaccination sites but didn't have the workforce to issue them in a timely manner edinburgh cisd knew they had to jump in to help vaccinate the community with the shortages of rns and other medical staff right now due to covid our nurses jumped in and agreed to help out so we applied to the state became a provider we became one of the schools first and then we moved on and other schools jumped in as well we started uh training our nurses we got them out there they started vaccinating and the rest is history from very early in the morning we gave lots of vaccines uh which you know i enjoyed because i was glad that the public were coming out and they were getting vaccinated it felt good helping the community and you know getting the vaccines out for them we'd like to thank all of our rns and lvns here at edinburg cisd for their continued hard work and
