Okay, Renata. I'm not leaving this place
until I find the Lumbung Candi. -Ah. [laughs] We don't go anywhere until we find
the piece of Lumbung Candi. -You just did. I know what Candi means. -Yes, sweets.
-No! -The kind you eat.
-No! It means like
a big, massive, major temple. A candy temple. Candi. The right pronunciation
is 'candi', Gordon. Flavors, colorful. [music] We're now in Prambanan,
another major temple complex here. Filmed before the lockdown [music] Hello! Welcome back to my channel. And I bet you're curious
because in the last video, I said that I made
a major mistake coming here, and I left you on a cliffhanger. I'm going to tell you
all about it in the next video. If this is the first video
in the Yogyakarta series that you're watching, let me explain you
how was our morning. We went to the largest
Buddhist temple in the world. It's located an hour and a half from here and it's called Borobudur. We're today on a day trip
from Yogyakarta, in Indonesia Now, here was our mistake. I bought the ticket online
to visit Borobudur because I wanted to make sure
I'd pay with credit card. I didn't want to pay cash there. It's Rp350.000, US$25. For Indonesians,
it is a fraction of that cost. So, I bought the ticket online. I always prefer to avoid lines
and everything. That was my choice. And, indeed, it was amazing
because we got the mobile tickets just presented on the phone,
and got in. No problems at all. But then we discovered
that there is a combo ticket combining that temple, Borobudur, with this temple right here, Prambanan. And it saves you US$10.
US$20 for both of us. And you don't even need
to use the tickets on the same day. You have two days. Living and learning. Entrance here is also expensive, US$25. There was a powerful earthquake
here in 2006 that destroyed a lot of the temple, and not everything has been rebuilt. Do you see all the stones here? It's 2 p.m. now, so the sun
is starting to turn that way which creates a shade here
in the temples. Let's try to cross,
see if there's somewhere else over there for us to capture better images. [music] -Hello.
-Hello. [laughs] -Hello there. On the internet, you read
that there are three main temples. But as you get here,
there are so many. Look at this.
All over. And our mistake
could have actually been worse because all these temples here
are very famous for the sunrise and the sunset. But they have different prices.
[laughs] You cannot simply buy
the ticket and go, you need to pay attention
at what time you're going to arrive. If you simply buy the ticket online and go, they're not accepted
at sunrise and sunset. So you need to know
exactly when to arrive. If you buy the wrong type, money lost. This temple complex here of Prambanan
was built in the 9th century and dedicated to the Trimลซrti, three expressions of God. Brahma, the Creator,
Vishnu, the Preserver, and Shiva, the Destroyer. This main one
right here in the middle, this is dedicated to Shiva. Do you know what's the coolest thing here? You can get inside these temples. So let's go inside Shiva's,
the Destroyer. The steps are so huge. You get up here
and here is the god, Shiva. No lights here. He's only lit by the little
natural light that gets in. Or when tour guides arrive And it is so hot. Look at how sweaty I am. [music] So interesting, right? Different religions,
but just like in Borobudur, the temple walls are fully decorated. These temples have collapsed
a few times over the years, especially with earthquakes. The last major one here
was in 2006. And do you see? There's a lot here
still to be rebuilt. Also on this side, huh? It's very impressive. This is the largest Hindu temple
in Indonesia and the second-largest
in Southeast Asia. [music] This is also a huge complex. And as you walk,
you discover even more temples. Here, they still have long ways to go
for the restoration. -Someone went crazy for candy. [laughs] -Someone tore it all up
and they found the candies. -Not there...
There's nothing left. [laughs] -I can't believe you. -I'm too late.
I'm way too late. Look at it. I'm not leaving this place
until I find the Lumbung Candi. A candy temple. You know, there are some people
in the comments here in my videos, they keep telling me
that I should feed you better. -Yes, you should.
-[laughs] -You should. The work I do is steak and lobster [laughs] -At least -The very least.
-Not candies? -No. They took the swings here
to a whole new level. Look at that. It lifts you up
to put you at the perfect height for a picture with the temple. Rp 20,000 for a picture. It's four o'clock, getting close to sunset. Sunset here in central and east Java is pretty early,
around five and something See? Look at the position
of the sun already. So, we should better hurry
because we're gonna watch the sunset somewhere else. Thank you! You're welcome!
[in Indonesian] Here, same thing, as you get out,
you're in the middle of the shops. Oh, look at this. You can come here by Grab. It's a Grab pick-up point. -Do you want a story?
-Yeah. Long time ago, we had two kingdoms:
Buddhist and Hindu. -Uh-huh.
-Until that time, they're making a war When the Buddhist prince
came to the Hindu castle... -Uh-huh.
-He saw the princess and fell in love -Uh-hmm. The princess wants to decide...
"Okay, you get to marry me, but with one condition: You must make the temple." The Buddhist prince made
the Prambanan... -Ah!
-...to propose to the princess. Oh, wow! So he gave the princess all that temple
as a wedding gift. -Oh, yeah?
-Yeah, you should give me something, huh? [laughs] -What do you got? -You're supposed to help me! [laughs] -You're supposed to be on my side. -And then they married. And then the generation,
it's a very, very, very famous... -...another kingdom.
-Uh-hmm. The name is Majapahit. -Oh, Majapahit. -Yeah, Majapahit.
-Uh-hmm. They held power until Sri Lanka. Almost all of Indonesia
and then Thailand, too. The power of Majapahit. -Oh!
-End of story. -Oh, wow! It is special for foreigner, baby.
Do you feel special? -Yeah.
-[laughs] -Special for foreigners.
-It's funny, special for foreigner. -So, it's Rp700.000 for two -Thank you.
Terima kasih. Another place to visit,
another US$25. The ticket is even in dollars. These are different prices for Indonesians
and for foreigners. This here is actually the sunset price
which is different. You could combine the tickets
between Prambanan and here. We're at Ratu Boko, but not for the sunset. For sunset, there's a special price. [group singing] -Okay.
-[crowd cheering] [music] Oh, look at that, baby. You can see Prambanan from here. -Over there.
-Oh, yeah. Ratu Boko is very close to Prambanan,
just a 10-minute drive. [music] The best time to come here
is for the sunset because the sun is very likely
to be positioned right here, right in the middle. Ratu Boko is not exactly a temple, although you see signs here
referring to 'Candi' and 'Candi' is Temple, but this is more the remains of a palace. The palace here was built
in the 8th century by Buddhists, but then Hindus
took over the place. So there are references here
both to Hinduism and to Buddhism. [music] Look at this place,
former audience hall. It is so cool because the sun
is perfectly here in the middle. You can also move and frame the sun here
in the different gates. So, in essence,
you have five spots for pictures with the sun in the back. It was so, so, so beautiful. And with this international ticket
that we got for the sunset, you even get free dinner. Nasi goreng, two
[in Indonesian] We get a full meal. Wow! And it comes with a tea. Mmm. Hard to see, but Mount Merapi
is right there, the volcano. We didn't eat anything
for the whole day because we ate a lot for breakfast. And also when it's too hot and humid,
we don't get hungry normally. But this dinner came in
a really good moment, and it is really good. It was a long and very expensive day, but very, very worth it. We saw some of the most beautiful places
I've seen in my life. Also, it really helped
to have our own driver because he knew exactly where to go, he knew everything
that we were entitled to, for example, he knew
we should get free water here, free dinner over there, so he helped us all the way. If you're interested, I'm leaving
information here in the description about how we found him, it may be useful to you. And if you're enjoying this series
here in Indonesia, give me a like. There's one more video here
in Yogyakarta. See you in the next one.
