Japanese Dodge vans at a DAJIBAN meeting at Ebisu Circuit

all right we're here today again at ABC circuit but we're not doing any rally driving or drifting or anything like that today you may have seen in previous videos that I actually drive this van the only reason I really bought that was because I wanted something that was cheap and could carry lots of tires and tools and stuff like that it is actually real drive but vans aren't really the coolest thing to drive around in there is of course unless you are driving a dodgy van [Music] you might have seen these sorts of things on the internet before dodge fans have a bit of a cult following in Japan it's quite weird let me explain so just like in many other countries in the world motorcycle racing is extremely popular and of course to carry all this stuff to the track you need something like this but not only do they use them to carry their stuff to the track they've actually started racing them we'll get to the racing part soon but first let's have a look through the pits and see what's here [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] the steering wheel on this one is a nerdy drift style Nardi and also of course as you can see a lot of these have what two knobby wheels on them and they really suit these vans for some reason I have no idea why here's something funny as I'm walking through the pits there's a breeze coming up this way and it smells like an auto parts store in America because a lot of these guys are running American air fresheners in their car so it's got that smell so this is the high end of the field you can see they've actually stripped out all the glass to try and get a good time so we're gonna go for a ride down this car but not me you got a camera in the car mister aragaki he's a former motorcycle champion and he'll be driving us today good luck as a murse cuz of this power Stig our driver this guy almost almost there yeah also believe it or not these bumpers are not metal they're actually fiberglass racing spec I want one so not all the vans here are you know as hardcore as those ones a lot of mud just daily drivers you have to forgive me that because I literally know nothing about these vans apart from the fact they look really cool I mean as far as I can tell they just have big v---aids I'm seeing all these brand names I've never seen before like spectre of course Summit Racing I know that other out on the track now I think some of them are actually starting to drift [Music] that's what I came to see if the snapchats you guys send me is anything to go by a lot of people who watch Nuria are gamers so if you play Grand Theft Auto 5 and you've seen a van called the yoga that looks like one of these here's the reason why it's called the yoga there is a place in Tokyo called AI v corporation I five is like an American car shop and they sort of popularized this style of van and the reason it's yoga is because it's actually in the suburb of yoga in Tokyo so there you go that's why I'm Grand Theft Auto five the Dodge van looking vehicle is called a yoga and this isn't just a thing that's from Tokyo as well these guys came all the way from Kyoto so this cars are popular all over the country all right we're gonna go for a lap I didn't bring my helmet today he started he says it's okay but he's wearing a helmet all right here we go it's a column shift Christmas well we're really high up I think we're just waiting for someone to catch up so we can have a bit of a Dodge van battle look at much room there is the back when you got somebody oh it breaks really strongly out of all the places I live in North Bay in a vast battle in Japan this is nuts that's he's actually flipping the throttle on the damn ship well okay so there you go Dodge van battle at NBC circuit Oh Japan what can you say here's something interesting I noticed when he was driving when he shifted from third to second like this because it's a like column shift though he blip the throttle watch this apparently in these cars between second and third and it's actually in neutral so you can blip the throttle so it'll just go into second neatly these things are getting better and better so I know everyone's going to write in the comments if I don't say what engine it has it's a stock three one eight v8 basically the only mods on it I'm cooling mods we have a cooling fans and there's a radiator here it's I believe of Aristo zero it says G's and s 147 that's like an Aristo and apparently standard brakes - alright that's all for today we wanted to come to this event for a long time really glad I did who would ever imagine that Dodge vans would be a thing but you know it always seems like everything is a thing in Japan anyway thanks for watching I'll see you next time you

I used to drive one of these vans delivering and installing cabinets in the southern US. I could always see that big lug as an old hippie style camper van, but never a sport vehicle. I'm impressed with the drifting shown here. For those unfamiliar with here workhorses, the front wheel barely turn compared to other vehicles, especially the Japanese vehicles normally associated with drifting. I always joked that these turned in a straight line. So seeing these slide around a corner, I can assure you that a lot of that drifting was at full steering lock, even if it didn't look it.
