I've been waiting for this day for a long  time let's check out some James Tyler guitars as the thumbnail of this video says  James Tyler guitars are a little bit of a if   you know you know kind of guitar brand especially  when it comes to sort of the early Studio sort of   guitarist from the 80s think Steve lucar think  Michael Lando funny enough think Dan Huff is   guitar is just in the background there now I'm  not going to go into the history of James Tyler   guitars there is loads of amazing resources out  there especially from the official James Tyler   YouTube page where the builders go into the whole  process talk about the kind of building of these   remarkable guitars but what I want to do today as  the UK exclusive dealer of James Tyler guitars I   want to highlight a couple of ones that we've got  in recently as I said I've been waiting to get my   hands on these guitars for a long long time today  is finally the day and I'm absolutely surrounded   by them so I'm pretty much in a toy shop for this  video but there's lot to be getting on with as you   would imagine so let's just jump right into the  guitars all the sounds you're going to be hearing   today from our trusty sual black magic got my  pedal board plugged in that's got an assortment   of distortions and delays and reverbs and whatnot  so you'll hear these guitars with a breads of   different tones so let's just Dive Right In so  let's start with maybe the most popular model   and that's actually maybe my personal favorite out  of the bunch this is the James Tyler Studio Elite   h D and this particular one is in tuckerberry  shmear which let's just take a moment shall we   just to look at that paint job just one more  minute just take your time looks pretty good   right just a little it's enough anyway you've had  enough you can look at the guitar while it's in a   lap but it's important to kind of go over a few  sort of key models I guess in the James Ty line   I'll talk about a couple of the other ones with  some other guitars that I want to highlight but   this particular one as I mentioned is the studio  Elite HD maybe their most popular model now most   of them come in this sort of HSS configuration  very much hearkening back to the sort of classic   Tyler model you would have seen with some of those  shidu musicians from the 80s but it is important   to say that with their core models there is the  ability to sort of Speck up from a wide wide   list of options and you will see some of those  other options on some of the other guitars I'll   mention some of them when I'm going through them  so essentially what I'm going to be doing with   each guitar that I get in my lap is I'll just be  going through the individual spec sheets because   we have specked all these up and these were all  choices that we made and there's quite a lot of   different as I mentioned like options when it  comes to pickups when it comes to the circuits   that that are in there even when it comes to the  bridges and obviously they've got quite a lot of   different finishes as well particularly the shmir  one which very very unique to them and because I   said Shir again let's just let's just look at  that you've had enough so with the help of my   handy cheat sheet which you get in your very nice  Tyler case as I mentioned it's a shud HD all your   serial number and actually the date of creation  and what not is in your handy little booklet here   but starting just with the body here it's made  of aler classic sort of you know s style wood   to use it's really really lightweight it sounds  absolutely superb and as you would imagine as well   tummy cut in the back there arm cut there but  it also has this really nice neck join as well   where you know it's not you're not cutting out any  of the wood from that traditional sort of square   joint there but the angle of the body just sits  really really nicely where your hand goes Super   sort of high performance sort of thing as you  would expect from a guitar like this but just   makes it a lot easier for getting up to the top  end of the fretboard there and moving on to that   neck it is a quarter ST quarter son Maple neck  there with 22 Frets and it's a kind of the shape   of this one they consider it well Tyler called  this their standard 159 shape which it's very   sort of you know it's it's quite traditional s  shape as you would imagine it's a very kind of   comfy C on there you know really really nice for  getting your hand around and it's actually got   like a really nice satin finish to it as well  doesn't feel like there's any sort of oil or   gloss or anything like that so it's this really  really sort of just bare wood feel which is super   super smooth and obviously with Maple being an on  poris wood as well it's just an absolute pleasure   to play that also does have a compound radius just  to make sure I'm right 10 to 12 in on this which   of course really handy when you're getting  up there to play some solos really handy for   playing some cords down the bottom now moving  on to the headstock it's maybe the most sort   of guess controversial point of these guitars  I personally quite like it myself but let me   know what you think down in the comments it's  certainly the uh the point of contention Adon   isn't it I don't really want there we go we're one  for one in the video room then the top of like see   the yeah see the r in the top just in case you  forgot it was a James Tyler guitar you know but   it's upside down if you're playing I'm not even  going to attempt to read that controversial points   aside looking into the hardware that's loaded on  we'll start at the headstock there it this model   particularly has got hip shot locking chers on  them which feel absolutely superb and actually   the shape of them as well the kind of like more  buty triangle particularly on this model I think   kind of suit with the Aesthetics of the guitar  moving on to the pickups as well and just as   I mentioned you know there's lots of different  configurations that you can get there's lots of   different pickups that Tyler use and actually they  make their own pickups as well which are loaded   into this one they're all kind of like slanted as  well which again is a is a feature that I've seen   on a few tiers a few that you'll see today as  well don't have the slanted pickups on them so   it's not really the thing that you like with them  or you don't like that sound then you do have the   option but this one is loaded with the bridge here  is a hot retro the middle position is a gts5 hot   Laura and it's actually a gts5 that's loaded  into the neck there as well I'll let you just   hear these on a clean tone if I can find my pleum  that is working a guitar store and don't have a   plon what what is that about but here we go so  starting with the bridge I'll turn all my effects   off as well and make sure I've got some sounds  happening there we go so here's the bridge bridge pickup fourth position middle on to the fourth and finally the neck now there is customizable options like  coil splits like some other buttons that can   essentially add all of your pickups together as  well there is a guitar that I will show off a   little bit later that does actually have that  Fe with it but with this particular guitar one   of the sort of I guess staple points and one of  the just the I guess the key sort of features   with tyers that a lot of people do like you may  have noticed that between our master volume and   our tone here there's this other knob that looks a  little bit different and also there is this little   button just beside our pickup selector there now  what that is is an active mid preamp essentially   so it's going to give you a mid boost when you  need it it's quite famous with certainly with   Eric Clapton's signature Fender it's quite a sort  of secret sauce for a lot of people as well it's   quite a useful tool certainly with like solos  or Distortion and whatnot because it will help   you kind of stand out in a mix it means that  obviously everything's just on the guitar so   let's hear it on a single coil first and then I  will try it on the bridge as well and you'll see   exactly what the mid boost is doing so I've got it  turned all the way down and it's by P pass at the   moment when that's pressed in so you'll have just  heard that tone but I'll do it again so you've got reference and then when we press  this and the button comes up that's   the mid boost activated but of  course it's all the way down so not the biggest change there  but you'll notice when I start to   ramp that up you'll start to get  a little bit more of those mids boosts and then quickly hitting it on the hooker there certainly on the clean channel it's maybe  a bit more overpowering and a little bit kind   of it does create this kind of like much wooer  sort of you know like warm tone in with it but   certainly with the Distortion it does make quite  a difference which you know even while I've got   my board set up just now as well let's just  activate this a fredman bod Distortion here   which nothing else is on got nothing else I'll  let you hear how the mid boost affects that so quite a handy tool especially again if you're  playing a big Solo or anything like that without   you having it doing anything with the pedal board  you can literally just activate that and it'll   give you a different tonal quality and as I said  it kind of is a bit of a secret sauce for a lot   of people you know that are into kind of older  like at style plane or shredding or anything   like that it's it's a feature that Tyler players  certainly love so rounding out the hardware of   this particular model it is loaded with a let  me just double check again with my handy cheat   sheet here it's got a goto Bridge which is a G2  TS G2 TS without stumbling over my words there   nice twoo trim there which again mixed with those  locking tuners you can actually get quite a lot   of movement out of that and even if you want to do  some kind of mid dive bombs or anything it should   hold its tuning just as long as you're not doing  too crazy on it and the last point that I want to   make particularly with this guitar and actually  all the other ones as well are all finished in   the same way that the James Tyler guitars have  all got these remarkably rolled edges on the   fretboards you might not be able to see it just  with that camera there as well but these are all   hand rolled and they're all hand finished by the  team over in America and it's almost like they're   scalloped if anybody's everever played a ingu  mamin Pender Strat Caster they've got these like   really or Richie Blackmore actually as well H they  have got these really deep scallops to them which   they they can feel obviously quite weird but but  the James Tyler guitars have almost kind of got   that going with the sides of their neck here as  well which just I mean if you're ever getting your   thumb around there or you know you're doing any  chords or anything or that's kind of the way you   play it's going to feel absolutely incredible for  you that's maybe one of the points I'll I'll say   this point several times throughout the video but  it's one of the points I really want to reiterate   with these guitars is just you can feel the amount  of kind of work that I've went into them and the   finish and whatnot cuz you know by well means  these are kind of up the upper end of you know   the price certainly of guitars that's something  that you can't really ignore with these but what   you are getting with them is just that remarkable  feel and you can kind of tell the effort that's   been put into them and I mean the sounds as  well I sounds absolutely incredible despite   what you put them through it could be any pedal  board any app they're going to feel absolutely   incredible but on the topic of some sounds let's  check them out just now let the guitar do the talking for h come all so the next model that I do want to check out in  this room full of stunning James Tyler guitars is   this little number here which is known as the  burning water finish and let's Tak a little   second with that finish as well I can see a lot  of like people maybe not liking how extravagant   these finishes are and certainly they are pretty  outlandish and out there but I love them just look   how cool they are the burning water was actually  first developed for aformentioned Michael Landau   who I think it was the name of his band from  where I read actually previously and it was   developed for him from James Tyler now this  particular model here it's more of a sort of   classic look and put classic in inverted commas  there and a classic setup because it doesn't have   that mid boost circuit in there it's a much more  traditional master volume two tone knobs and a   5way selector so this is a more just pickup and  play option I guess without too much additional   features maybe for somebody who just wants a  really really high quality guitar like you want   the James Tyler experience but without having to  to many bells and whistles and for those fans who   want all the bells and whistles the next guitar  that we're going to talk about has got all them   so stick around if you do want to see that but  let's just double check what the pickups are or   actually before I do that let's get my handy cheat  sheet again and just quickly run through the specs   of this one because again very customizable very  different uh sort of you know setups that you can   do for every single one of them so I just want to  make sure I get it right and you can double will   check these of course when you get them in your  nice Tyler hard case but bodywise we're looking   at a swamp hash body on this one so we're in  the same sort of territory as Alor but just a   slightly different configuration quaron Maple neck  with the same standard 59 shape but this one has   got an Indian Rosewood board they use quite a few  different Woods forther boards as well as you'll   see with another couple of guitars actually the  next one again that I'm going to pick up that's   going to board on it but you can also get palero  Indian Rosewood Maple or ebony as well and you can   actually get a maple not make a mahogany neck as  well so loads of options for you to kind of suit   your playing and your style this has also got the  compound 10 to 12 in radius 25 1/2 in scale length   very kind of standard S Type guitar hip shot  locking tuners on there and then obviously the   headstock as well with the rolled edges but let's  talk about the pickups that are in this one as I   mentioned this has got so it's the secret Bridge  pickup in here which is a Tyler one as well very   kind of vintage sounding inspired humbucker which  I think you'll be able to do quite a lot of stuff   with if you want just a bit of a middle of the  road to cover you know cleans and Distortion and   stuff like that and the single coils that are in  here are GTS 5500 single coils so let's just hear   them right now just make sure that this guy is in  tune as well it's important to say that actually   I did mention about the tuners there but they  do feel really really good and you can get like   really quite small micro adjustments out them when  you need them which is show you know the level of   quality that we're getting with these guitars  so trying it on our Bridge pickup here first fourth second possession middle now we're on a fourth and fin the neck loads of range out of the pickups  there despite not having any other as I   said bells and whistles on it let's hear  how this sounds with a bit of distortion   some more effects and what not and  then we'll check out the last guitar after oh a oh la la so that was the burning water model there which  personally I really did like as well it's quite   cool to just have something that's again like  I said kind of a just a plog in and go and it's   quite familiar but the model that I alluded to  previously that's got all of the other additional   bells and whistles it's this little guy here which  I'm really excited to get in and try out also does   come with a slightly different cheat sheet as well  it's more of a you actually get a certificate on   one side there welcome to the family now you know  I told you this is It's the if you know you know   of guitars but this is got all the information  here as well and this is actually a Shu Elite   too so I guess this is a good opportunity to  show you the kind of differences that you can   get between a couple of the different models  so here's the first tuckerberry schmear that   I picked up that was playing the one that I really  liked these two are part of the same cies I guess   you know it's this the shudio elites but you  notice like how different they are in terms of   what you can get on them and once I start running  through the the specs of this guy you'll see just   the levels of customization you can get with it  and actually before I get in and plug that one   in I just want to show you this model because  I think this is partly a bit of inspiration for   that configuration this is the done Huff model  now we'll have some videos showing off a lot of   these just by themselves if you do want to just  hear the sounds link will be in the description   when they start to come out as well but this is  the danhof signature model you know by his name   it's just right on the body there but you notice  these I've got the little buttons there as well   it's very very similar to this studio Elite  here and actually there is a there's a model   in the Tyler lineup unfortunately I don't have  it with me today but it's basically inspired   by the danhu model which I think a lot of people  are really kind of like they really wanted just   because of all the abilities for sounds and  all the abilities for switching and what not   but enough about that one let's talk about this  guy here so as I mentioned it is a studio Elite   looking into the body of this one though it is  actually mahogany with a quilt Maple top there   and then moving on to the neck as well that's a  mahogany neck that's on that guy so you can get   that mix on any of them if you prefer the feel  of a mahogany neck it's still got a really nice   satin finish to it and if I can just check what  the size of it is this is a standard one here   so actually it does feel like kind of a little  bit thinner than the 59 one that was playing on   those but they're they're still in the same sort  of wheelhouse you're still getting that really   like comfy sort of C shape to it maybe kind of  move into almost a V when you go up to the top   there but this has also got the compound radius  on it as well as you would imagine every board on   this again 22 threets I've got gold gold Hardware  hip shot lock and Tuners up the top of this guy   and then it's also got the goto 2o gold trim on  there as well but what the biggest thing with   this guitar as I've mentioned many many times is  that it's got a lot of these additional switching   systems on it here now this like might look a  little bit complicated at first but it's a lot   easier than it seems because essentially what  these are is these are switching systems for   each pickup you're getting a split for just the  humbucker there but also gives you series parallel   as well because you've got three positions you've  also got your mid boost which it's got your bypass   button just there and actually it's worth showing  you you might have seen it on some of the other   guitars but I didn't really make any reference  to it but you've got your battery slot just on   the back there so it's nice and easy to switch  out your 9vt if you need it and then this little   button here or switch it's quite a good feeling  switch actually the this is your lead and Rhythm   switch so essentially what it is is it's a blow  switch you may have heard of that what it does is   it bypasses all the controls that you've got so  you might be in the weirdest position with your   mid boost and all that sort of stuff on when  you like this it just goes directly to your   humbucker when you need those kind of Clutch  lead sort of sounds and especially if as I   said if you're kind of in a sort of weird sound  elsewhere instead of you having it properly like   revert back to those standard sounds you know for  your humbucker you've just got one switch there   makes it nice and easy and again it's super  customizable you can put this on any finish   you can put this on any of the guitars this was  just one that we had speced up particularly in   this kind of nice sort of 3D quilt Maple which  I think looks really cool so to go through the   wide variety of sounds of this guitar I've maybe  only had about maximum 10 minutes on this when   we first unboxed it so even some of the options to  me I'm not familiar with so why don't we just find   out together starting on the bridge position  this will be the switch that we're using for it tons of options even just from those three  switches there they've they've all got three   positions per switch except for that one which  has only got the two which we show you just in   a second the this one here is doing a mix of  as I said splitting cies parallel especially   when you've got the 5way selector switch as  well there's a lot of different sounds that   you can mix into that and as I mentioned so  let's make quite a unique sort of sound here let mid boost author so then say you've got you know something  like that where you've got your switches all   kind of moved you're in the fourth position  there and then you need to switch back to a   distortion like on your f humbucker with  the minimal FF basically what you can do is and you'll see when I flick that on there pickup's lighter's not doing anything  else you still have control over your volume   which is quite handy you're not just bypassing  all of these options here but again this is   quite a specific setup and I guess it sort  of speaks to the ethos of Tyler that you can   kind of put everything you know that you  need into a certain guitar they're almost   just like bases that you can not liing bases  obviously but they're like they're you know   they're blank canvases that you can kind of  position well not position you can put what   you need to in to them for how much you need  if you need something that's quite just easy   and classic go with a burning water setup  you want just the mid boost there you can   go with that if you want all the bells and  whistles you can do that but we'll get into   that obviously into the round up let's hear  how this thing sounds with some different tones for m oh oh w so that was a very very quick look at Tyler  guitars there as I mentioned this was just I   just want to get this one as well cuz I feel this  should have a little bit of time to shine this was   the first time that we've had a lot of them up in  our studio and I was just really excited to have   kind of them all in a room with me just because  they are you know you don't see a lot of them and   as I mentioned we're the UK exclusive dealer of  Tyler which not only means you can come to us to   talk about them that you can come to us to check  them out but it's you just don't see that many of   them in the UK so to see such a sort of like cult  classic and as you know the thumbnail says as well   if you know you know of these guitars it's just  cool to see so many of them in the one place now   are these going to be for everybody absolutely not  they're sitting at a price point that is for very   specific you know folk and certainly not a lot of  people might know what these are but certainly if   you're looking for a really high performance you  know super Strat style guitar or just something   that's you know just really well made like that's  the main thing is by all means if you're in this   sort of like market for anything get a James  Tyler in your hands feel how it is and you'll tell   immediately what kind of like crafts have went  into these absolutely stunning guitars but let   me know what you think down in the comments Below  have you tried James Tyler are you familiar with   them at all or is this your first time hearing  about them and give us a like and give us a   subscribe if you're down there as well it really  does help the channel and we have broke 50k Subs   in the past couple of weeks which has been awesome  so let's get to 60k in no time but until then I've   been King and this has just been a quick look at  some James higher electric guitars have a great day
