[Music] we cannot say anything about these things nothing they can say sometimes you know when maharaji left his body many years before that he used to say you know there was a baba who left his body and his body was cremated after one month he reappeared so what was his aim of telling why he told nobody can say about it [Music] he had a number of names during his you know from his birth name lakshmi narayan so people saying that him at this stage and they could met him with a different name and stuff like that but from there apparently he goes to bolbania which is where that lake is and now there's a little temple there and where maharaji was known as talayaba where you go under the water and people would come to see him for hours at a time since lakshmana probably baba lakshman that was given to him at neem karate itself [Music] foreign foreign foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] m [Music] eating foreign he was he's written [Music] the thing is neem karoli brother is a hammerman avatar what else is there to say hanamanji [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you know the old devotees many of the old devotees worshipped him and after all shiva it is is she this energy that comes in through hanuman through yeah it's a monkey face [Music] foreign [Music] people think that you need to see your guru in the physical body but that's only because we think we are physical bodies they don't think that they're not limited by a physical they're not even identified with the physical body yeah people they used to say about maharaji that he had no consciousness of his body whatsoever where it went what it did what it said he was completely merged in iran and everything that happened happened through he was there was no doer when people would come to the temple and let's ask for something he said go ask and what does hanuman say says ask around [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] i was going to school in chicago and hitchhiked to the east coast and i was in massachusetts uh hitchhiking one day and i got picked up by a couple in a van i got into the back seat and as soon as i got in i noticed they had this little photo of a old man in a blanket it was only about two inches square and i couldn't stop looking at it and after uh i don't know several minutes or maybe 10 minutes of looking at it i began to feel emotion like tears and i was like okay what's going on and uh eventually i actually started sobbing and the woman turned to me and she says oh what's wrong honey and i said i don't know who is that a picture of and she said oh that's our guru named karoli baba when she said neem karoli baba it was like [Music] i felt it deep in my being and lights went off and the tears flowed nonstop it was his grace what is called in hindi there is a word i had to keep kappa i had to keep very beautiful world it has got a very good depth a heterokey means the grace which you get without doing anything if you have got you got the grace of a siddha you need not do anything people say that our past saskaras are good that's why we are sin but i think it must it is my it was maharaji's grace and blessings that i could enjoy so much of liberty otherwise [Music] i was nobody i was just like a dust and i didn't do any kind of puja or devotion or nothing [Music] who is popularly called maharaji also was one of that kind of they come for various purposes they don't come to give you a lesson and teach you in a systematic way but if you are following a part and if you go to them you might derive some benefit out of it without they are giving you positive instructions so in their presence automatically you your soul begins to vibrate in a different frequency that's their function you can't really say they are my gurus but they don't make disciples actually siddhi sahiba were never made disciples either but there are one category about people who say we are making this [Music] he was giving us the tools and setting us free to find our own way a bit but he was always the pole star for everyone and the guide right and it was almost like you were directed but not from uh in an external way foreign [Music] ah [Music] oh [Music] so it was kind of heritating my father used to be going to all these scenes somebody baba had a khan baba and so it starts from passing this devotion from one generation to another so i used to hear stories about all these same senses since childhood we were told that these saints do not come to the town or they just stay in the forest and all that so once it's happened that there was one of her relatives my step sister she they their her family used to live behind our house so maharaja happened to come there so i thought what type of saying things and this in my mind you know i was quite young so my my father sent me to him which was just behind our house so there was someone my nephew who was quite older than me he escorted me i said to him what type baba he is he visits visits every house and maharaji was listening everything what is he saying what he's saying then in the beginning he was a bit embarrassed my nephew then tell me what he's saying he said he said the maharaja goes visits at the house when he it was got up from that court he came to my house [Music] [Music] the first thing he asked my father where is that bed on which harakan used to sleep and my father said this is the bed vet immediately he asked hara khan gave you one mantra do you still repeat it he said yes but that was the point my father became totally you know he had never said these two things to anybody but maharaja knew it [Music] would be 1949 [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] or get out [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign hmm you can imagine how it was at hanman it was all like a region mercy this scorpions lychees the place where these dead bodies who died out with the infectious disease they used to be buried there and still born children so that was a haunted place so even during day times anytime we couldn't dare to visit there and at that time in maharaji every time he used to look towards hanuman girl and we did not know what he meant by that then gradually gradually people would say oh there are so many souls so it is maharaji wants to do something for the liberation of these souls so then this manga was built and so many things happen [Music] so he used to come for four or five days or six weeks at the most visit house of the devotee from one place and every devotee wanted him to be in his house and have full dinner or food and he used to visit each and every house every day and take full meal wherever he used to go at one time i remember more than 20 meals i was with him and one day he you know there was a devotee of maharaji his name was habba then maharaja sometimes used to play like a child how it is so that i eat so much and i digest then habao said oh sarkar you are like agni you are fire you eat and it becomes swaha what else happens and maharaja you used to say enjoy it it was just like a fun at the time foreign [Music] [Music] foreign foreign [Music] is [Music] you know he used to call my to every female he had a very special relationship with them they consider him father they consider him their view they consider many many relationships and they're in love with them it's what it was a typical reenactment of krishna and gopiprine they had their husbands but they would come out to the tune [Music] [Music] that's how i learned to sing listening to them sing at night in the temple they would leave there was a window in the back in the wall [Music] and their room was on the other side of the world and that window was to their room and the night they would all gather there and just party all night long and i used to sit out there all night and listen to them it was amazing [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign then she just kind of as the years went by she just her devotion for maharaja absolutely unequivocal absolute give me a supernova that says it devotion to maharaji really she became enlightened to that devotion like the true the true manifestation of bhakti i think is siddhi just he was he was not a simple lady he was not a simple lady [Music] [Music] oh [Music] me [Music] away hey [Music] [Applause] [Music] um [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] come on [Music] and people had started coming these village people they were poor people for prasad and my two of my friends were here maharaja whose people have started coming why they are not being given so i asked my friend go and ask then other person came he said marathi hawan is going on and the prasad will be first offered to for puja and god then maharaji was lying on the court then he became so furious he got up why this swahasa people are dying of hunger and people have given this sahasa bring food feed them this is the greatest [Music] i have not seen a single place [Music] i [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] m [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign foreign [Music] foreign foreign foreign [Music] foreign foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] so the story goes that whenever the mail started a storm would come that means [Music] me [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] um [Music] oh [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign foreign [Music] a [Music] um [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign foreign is [Music] [Music] we misunderstand what the word means for somebody like him we're trying to climb up this ladder with our personal will these great beings are just preparing or just cleaning the wires out so they could hold that energy for us they're not doing the pastry the passion is doing them [Music] they've entered into these bodies for the purpose of alleviating suffering and continuing the work that they've been doing with their devotees for millions of years and so it's not like one person trying to get something that's a completely different point of view [Music] [Music] [Applause] foreign foreign [Music] and we met this family and uh who used to told us the story about these pilgrimages that people used to take along the normandy you start a number contact and you go down today to the arabian sea and it was led by this 1200 year old father named he said in under my and her previous body was on that maharaja was there all these great things for them and [Music] he said it was a goddess of maharaja who was his name handed maharaja this is sydney's and so who knows [Laughter] [Music] [Laughter] we know quite a bit about his physical uh life um and not everything by any means but we know quite quite more than he can just drop out of the sky type of thing he was born in this little village a little farming village 35 kilometers east of agra between the southern branch of the grand trunk highway and and the railroad so here it's a typical indian plains farming village that's where most people don't go 10 kilometers their whole lives he was born approximately 1900. [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] what happened his mother died and his father got repaired and he didn't get along with his step-up and they you know and he left he had been betrothed but not you know the shoddy didn't happen because he disappeared [Music] i foreign his old devotees told me they once went in a jeep and they pulled up into the jungle behind the village and then he and maharaja started walking through the jungle and maharaji had his blanket on and then jivan looked again in my heart he had the head man's uniform on and they went walking around the village everybody greeting everybody everybody acted like he had always been there and then they turned around and left and he was wearing the uniform when he even looked again he's wearing his blanket you know and that was the other thing he never left you and when you got over your emotional uh romantic feelings of loss of not being with him physically he's there and people felt him like in his village they didn't think he was gone for months at a time he didn't allow that awareness to arise [Music] sometimes the relatives came to see him at the ashram and he would go back to the village to take care of his family at times and nobody really realized that he was doing that right it was very odd it was like he just disappeared from one world into the other and we didn't find out until after his passing that he had three children roughly 10 or less people knew that he was a householder devotees and they were all indian and if you ask his family uh us donald ryan he was there for every family thingy every wedding every day every holiday and he would just disappear um [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] is [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Laughter] [Music] [Music] we are foreign [Music] [Music] foreign foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] me [Music] foreign one day i got up quite early ran through the alleys of vrndavan and got to the temple i pronounced as each day and chokidar was at the gate and and he he said you can't come in and i said why i came to see maharaja i've been coming every day he said maharaja is gone and i was where did he go he didn't he didn't say he left in the night the word came that he was going to be in allahabad so we we went to allahabad and each day i would go to daughter mukherjee's house hoping to see maharaji and he had in common and nobody had heard any word from him so i was kind of depressed and first of all my girlfriend broke up with me and i had no money and i also got very sick i was it was one of those moments where i felt why am i here why did i come to india what is this all about i ah you know just really down went to sleep and somewhere in the early morning i had this dream i was waiting at the allahabad train station by myself the station was completely deserted and i was just waiting and i was just waiting and i didn't even really know exactly what i was waiting for after some time a train pulled into the station and and it stopped right where i was standing and stepping out of the of the rail car is maharaji and he steps down he's just wrapped in a like a light gray blanket and he came up to me and he opened his arms and wrapped his arms and his blanket around me and he started crying in the dream and and i started crying in the dream and he was saying finally finally finally you've come back to me finally you've come back to me and i felt in my dream that he had been my um protector and my savior for lifetimes and lifetimes and lifetimes and lifetimes and i woke up i looked at the clock it was 1 20 in the morning and after some time i went back to sleep so the next morning i got up and just like every other morning i walked over to dada's house and everything at the house is a little bit um it's a little different people are rushing around and i asked somebody and he said well maharaji arrived last night he came by himself to the allahabad station at 1 20 and called us to pick him up [Music] we've been singing to maharaji for a while in the big room that daughter's house and i noticed these two young men came in with this very old lady and they sat in the back of the room as soon as they came in mahariji got up and went into his bedroom and he called those people in and the lady just looked at him and said baba how could this be how could you be here and my heart's going jump shut up don't talk but she couldn't baba how could this be how could you be here out how could this be about my and he said ma shut up she wouldn't stop and finally said ma i died and i was reborn in the hills now be quiet so dada who was like the cid from maharaji stories when they left and he runs around the back way and he grabs him and said what's the story here and she said i used to sit in his lap when i was eight years old he was my grandfather's guru he looks exactly the same except i don't remember the blanket and this is how many years ago she was eight she had to be 80 if she was a day he looked exactly the same and it was the same name same name that's also great [Music] what did [Music] be [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] footprints [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] bedrooms [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] i had my eyes closed the whole time i just kind of opened my eyes like this and i saw he was sitting there but i saw around him [Music] it was like superimposed over him and it confused me until i realized [Music] he's red because he covers himself with cinder but he's not read that way you know so it was oh and then i closed my eyes and opened it just [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] it's hard to explain exactly what maharaji is doing with me i'm not sure but it's something but you feel him constantly yes yes there's he's he's a very strong teacher maharaji like custom makes lessons for each person and i tend to have a real like strong tough way about me so i get some really strong tough lessons you know i get opportunities to to be softer and to be kinder every day you know especially coming here yeah it's very strong here i get because the culture is so different that's but that's a very powerful thing for me because i think actually in actuality in life we don't understand we don't know actually what's going on what is maharaja got going on for me and for him and for everyone we don't know the more you don't know the easier it is i really started to see that the guru that's not alive still here he's here maharaji is here he's he's even stronger that he's that he's no longer just one floor [Music] from his point of view i mean we're incapable of understanding the simplest word from him because it comes from a place of selflessness which is we can't even conceive we asked them how do you find god he said you know [Music] serve people i said what he said how do you always raise kundalini you know what you know so i remember sitting in the home of dada mukherjee we had we all sit in a row with the leaf plates on the floor and they would come by with buckets of food and just put more and more and more i kept saying boss enough enough but they would keep giving you more until you have to turn the plane upside down then they would stop you know maharaja said the westerners did not know how to give and receive love that they couldn't receive love and the food was symbolic of the love some sick people would come visit maharaji and he would give them a bag of puris fried you know and the grease was dripping out of the bottom of the bed he needs to eat this eat all of them and that would cure them you know because he blessed them so yeah foreign just a relationship of uh you know love a little bit of joy sometimes a little bit of pittas you know i was the driver he took rondas's keys to the van the way the books on and gave him to me he said jeff is the drunk general he's the driver ramdas is the same he can't hold money he it's not so i'm the driver so i carried those keys with me every day and i i really wanted to drive my haraju in the car but i never said anything to anyone and then one day like a year later my heart he looks at me goes chubby head jello so we walk out of daughter's house and maharaj is walking with donna and the volkswagen bus seat is high so my heart he had to throw himself up into the seat and he bashed his head on the top of the door really hard and i went oh jesus this is my fault look what i've died you know and he didn't and i said daddy did you see that and dad said be quiet he did it on purpose just drive that's a real devotee maharaji could not do anything that was not on purpose everything he did had a purpose and he believed that he totally he said be quiet he did it on purpose just drive so then i'm driving maharaja and he's going watch out watch out oh you're going too fast slow down be careful dude why is that one over there watch out and we drove to the banks of the ganga to the sangam and i turned the car off we sat there for a minute and said jello let's go back and then i drove back to sydney watch out pick so then some days after that we sent away to go on this yatra i don't remember what town it was it was outside of the lava or somewhere it's this long slow curve and it's right by a river or a reservoir or something and i i got i went into the curve too fast and we were going off we were about to go i felt the car shifting off i couldn't control it we were going to go off throw it into the water and all of a sudden the wind came blew us right back on the road and then our next hitting his head um [Music] ah [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Music] how did i get here today i met rondas's writings as a young man when i was in my early teens and it affected me a great deal and then as life went on i left them behind got in a real bad way got in with like got into drugs and really my business was successful my marriage was successful but i was torn apart inside and it's hard to tell the story in a real small way but an event happened um where we we partake of a plant that put us into a a samadhi or an altered state for 24 hours where you couldn't move and during that time ramadas maharaja came back [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] many many many of us met ramdas he had met in india and then came back and for several years two and a half years or so he went around and talked of his experience and we all had a definitive feeling of connection not only to him but where he came from and who that being was named he had talked about his guru without naming him and we knew and he would say everything that i have comes from him so then it was like then i want that and i did i was very very single-pointed as many of us were even though he was told not to say anything about maharaji he did except he never said the name nor did he say where he was clearly when i met ramanas he was the conduit for maharaji and um it was hard to know that at the time because it seemed like this very sharp western you know former psychologist and all of that i was expecting to uh you know hear the uh harvard professor and uh he showed up uh you know wearing uh a white like ulfie and uh barefoot in uh what was still the winter time in uh us so he looked like a yogi i meant maharaji the first time i met rondas in america i walked into the room around us was and that was it at that moment i knew that whatever it was i was looking for was real and it was in the world i didn't know what it was but that was my epiphany at that moment and nothing changed from that moment to this i remember driving down in the uh we were coming in a taxi from nanita down to kenji and you go down those switchbacks in the hills and finally you see the ashram down below and then uh you know as you come closer maharaji was out sitting on his tucket but that feeling of coming down the hill to that place was uh just this remarkable feeling of coming home [Music] so when these people westerner they used to sing bhajan smart before maharaji maharaji used to be in tears sometimes because he knew and understood their hearts they were so pure then sometimes some cases personally i have seen that he used to call some indian devotees who were they who had that ego no they are the superior okay sit down then he would ask these westerners to sing and they would sing this aarti or bhajans alisa then says look at them how pure they are it is not in the sanskaras of the westerners to sing hanuman charlie sour like that but even then they when they sing they sing it right from their heart [Music] used to sit in your office they used to see gopala gopala sriram jairam and manchester millions and millions times of advances finally it was that temple was constructed [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] so maharaja was just he never seemed to do anything you know and yet everything happened he sang with him we sang to him because he liked it and it was our way of spending more time [Music] which is what all we wanted [Music] [Applause] [Music] well india has this tradition of saints and yogis and holy people which we don't have in the west i mean not living anyway very rare um and so mar was completely extraordinary for us you know it was not like you couldn't [Music] treat him as a normal person whereas i think a lot of the indians if for them he was like almost a family figure and he advised them took care of them in such detail yeah but most of us had come on some kind of spiritual search you know that we had started probably before coming i would say the part that i didn't even know i was looking for it was the uh heart so how did he address that he fed us with love he stuffed us with love it was just that a complete uh joy of being with him [Music] [Music] [Music] and he would yell at me very loud wherever i was in the ashram dr america and sometimes you say dr america come here i have a headache what will you give me what good american medicine will you give me for a headache and i didn't have anything maybe i had an aspirin or a tiger bomb and i would give it to him and he would put it on his head and he would balance it oh this american medicine is so good this cured my foreign my [Music] i was not one of these people to push up from the front i said has something to say to me he will say it you know so i didn't wave my hand or touch his feet you know but i was sitting in the back and i thought i've been here a month he doesn't know that i'm here at that point a banana dropped out of the sky and landed in my lap well actually we were in a room it was there was no sky it was this small room and nobody was throwing fruit around you know it just suddenly droppier i knew it was from all right [Music] so i hear i'm surrounded by all of these images of hanuman and ram and seasoning and the part that i hated the most was that everybody would bend down and touch maharaja's feet i hated it it made me feel like i was breaking an oath i have with god to not have any other god before him and i wound up walking around the nonital lake from molly town polly island i got in a boat i went on the lake and i found myself for the first time in my adult life praying i wasn't sure how to do it and i said god just give me a sign that this is the right place for me to be that no she's the right person that is real and this is not some kind of a cult that's captured my wife that that i belong here any time i got nothing and i laugh about it now but i was really i was brokenhearted and that night i came and i told her that i was going to leave and she said you know you have to you have to follow your own heart but i wish you would stay um but i really felt like this was the wrong place i tried to get her to leave she wasn't there the next morning i set out to go and she said well aren't you going to come and say goodbye to maharaja i said sure we got down to kenshi very early we're just sitting there and i noticed that on his tucket the people in the ashram and the villagers have taken fruit and flowers to spell out rum and the central cross of the em was made by an apple and while we were sitting there that apple rolled off the tucket and reached out to pick up this apple to complete god's name and maharaji bursts out of the movie star bursts out of his doors sees me sees what's going on and immediately steps on my hand it felt like he weighed a thousand pounds and i suddenly realized i'm touching his foot the one thing that i didn't want to do and i i got such a almost electrical charge and i felt like i was holding on these um cables that were connected to the center of the world and while he's keeping me pinned down there and i'm touching his feet i'm really i'm so confused about what i'm feeling he said to me you were not here yesterday where were you oh yes i know and then he looked at me and he said you were at the lake everything else was in india but like was in english and i i started feeling what i now recognize is my kundalini and up to me said what were you doing at the lake were you swimming nobody could swim in that bike no what were you doing oh yes you were talking to god you were talking to god oh yes you were asking for something you were asking for a nashan you were asking for a sign weren't you and when he said that and it was translated for me were you asking for a sign talking to god at the lake that was my own pronocity that was then i knew okay i started to cry you know and i actually grabbed my beard and started pulling my beard and playing my gear just hugged me and tried to wipe away my tears and then all the satsang had just arrived and they started coming in and every one of them had a story that was as powerful for them as this story was for me [Music] is [Music] i was a new york hustler businessman and he never asked me for one person he would never allow me to donate money to this day i go to the ashrams i live there they won't let me and they need money to pay the rents [Music] of india foreign we couldn't give him money he didn't care if we were there or not you know i mean there was no way of buying his attention in any way whatsoever one day he said dr america how much money do you have and i thought about it and i said uh mahji i have five hundred dollars he said how much money did him back in america and i thought about it and i said well i think we have another 500 hours there and then he said 500 hours here 500 there and maharashtra is saying you are no doctors they switch to english you are no doctor you are no doctor and then he said uno doctor uno doctor united nations organization doctor dr america is going to become united nations doctor he said you will go to villages and give vaccinations [Music] he said this was god's will because of the hard work of so many dedicated health workers we had 150 000 health workers working in the field so go and i said to the marriage i said go where he said he said w-h-o joe joe joe and i said you know for a moment i kind of forgot i was a real doctor you know i was there to stir up maharashi i was i was making tea you know i was taking bootsy plants [Music] many of us did buddhist meditation vipassana meditation and it was just so-called happenstance that uh when some of us went originally maharaji could not be found i went to sri orbindo ashram in my case and then somebody went many others went to uh goenka so he would say are you going to the course in english gorskaya and uh yeah i'm going to the course and then we'd go to the course and come back and he said did you learn how to meditate yes baba hambaba and he'd go okay show me so we'd all sit up like this and the next thing you see you hear pie peels of laughter and all the indians around him all laughing at us that was how he taught he was not go there do this none of that but what does that mean that he wasn't really encouraging the meditation did you continue he never encouraged meditation everything had that kind of playfulness if you ask them too seriously about uh samadhi or your own karma or um any of the deeper we thought were the deeper meanings of the sunder khan and hanuman's devotion he would let you go a little way in that conversation and then he quickly made it and when he was in the body he barely allowed people to take photos and filming was or writing about him was um you know people were said to have been transferred who did that he was a very well-known scholar and he was a governor of u.p for a while and he wrote a piece about maharaji and mataraji uh reamed him out about it he said if you if you look at my picture i can see you i mean you either believe it or you don't believe it and if you believe it then here he is sitting in the room you know we think of photographs as sort of artifacts but it's also a transmission it's a multi-dimensional in a way yeah i mean maharaji is that when i took a picture of marashi and i illegally pasted it on the windscreen of the who jeep and i would go into a village and talk to the surgeon and say you must work on smallpox he would say ah you know i've got so many other things and then he'd take me because he was a gentleman he'd give me a cup of tea and then he walked me out to the car and then he'd see the picture of maharaja in the car and he said who is he and who is he to you i said well he's my guru and he said that smallpox is going to be eradicated and this civil surgeon who just rejected my attempt to get him to work on smallpox would then say need curly boba says smallpox is going to be eradicated i said yes and come back and have another cup of tea because maharishi's name had such credibility that when he would say something people would work for it and take it seriously [Music] as most of the westerners including steve jobs were involved with psychedelic substances okay and i started taking some psychedelic substances in 1961 when i was 18 years old and they were absolutely changing most of us wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for those experiences maharaji says taking lsd is like uh window shopping you can look in the window but you can't buy you know so it shows me what's there you have to achieve on your own he says say the yogi medicine what you call yogi medicine brings you into the room with christ but you can't stay the only way to stay is [Music] foreign [Music] if i can dream of you what i remember is there were lots of people there lots of people and i went and sat at the back i was a very young man and mahesh bhavaji my guru had told me bhavaji is there go and see my sonat babaji was convinced that maharaji had some connection with sri guru babaji so i went there it was big crowd so he was sitting you know like normal like laughing you know then he looked like that and he said he said so i said but what give me a shot you know it was almost like that then he patted me on my back many times and said oh ava then you know that blanket which was there come rain or sunshine so he put his hand inside the blanket and took out a rotten apple and he gave it to me and he said cow well i was looking at it and they didn't know it's kokiak it should be eaten and again he said cow so quickly i ate it i don't know how i kind of went up and then he said abhija when he said abhijao there was no way waiting but sitting there and talking to him i knew that there was something going on between him and me i can't put it into words i can't define it so you can see how on the level of this outstanding beings there is a direct connection there is no uh this ashram or that outcome and this sect or that sect it doesn't exist for these people there is each individual being which is unique and it has its unique way so the the real master knows that and guides accordingly [Music] you cannot have a mass specification that is the beauty of the whole hindu culture there is no particular system meant for everybody [Music] and i didn't want to hear that i didn't come to india if you're asked to be a christian do you know what i mean the fun thing is he came to me the next day on the street in 1912 that he looked like somebody else and he said what are you doing in india you have jesus christ i didn't realize that was him at the time is [Music] [Music] because he would say hanuman and christ are one and now so many westerners especially neem karoli baba devotees in the west it's extraordinary [Music] it's the same [Music] oh [Music] in the childhood that you will forget your power because you used to throw away the many of the things of the things of the saints and cities living in the jungles even through their worshipping gods in sea or in river then someone cursed him that you will forget your powers and he really forgot for many many many years we don't know how many years but when he met graham lord rama and they went in the search of sita jamanta the oldest one then he reminded us stop [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] here foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] m [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] 18. [Music] hello uh [Music] [Music] when you're in india last time did you give me medicine i said yeah now the thing is nobody knew this but when rondas had come back from his first trip he told everybody that maharaja had taken a shitload of acid and nothing affected him at all and that was a really big thing for amnest because as lsd had changed his life but some people said ah come on you know he threw it over his shoulder it's just you know he didn't take it so there was this much doubt nobody knew that but maharaja so he said when you were in india last time did you give me medicine yes did i take it yes i think so oh got any more yes give it to me surround us holds his hand out here like three or four tabs of this very strong acid how hard you went like this [Laughter] like that three or four times and then he says can i drink water hot water cold water he drank some water and after a few minutes he takes his blanket he puts his blanket up over his head like this and then he opens up and he goes [Applause] rhonda's turned purple and he he told me later he thought he really didn't take it the first time and he knew i had i i doubt so he wanted to prove it to me now i've killed my guru look at him and the minute he had that thought in my heart he dropped the holy land and he just said he said yogis has known about this for thousands of years he said for a yogi no poison can affect he made baharaji in 1972. this was in brindavan he was doing parikrama for a month prior to that every day in the hopes to see maharaja to have his first darshan every day he was going around and around and they said maharaja is not seeing anybody so the day of his birthday february 11th he had maharaja's first session and he maharaji was accompanied by two suddens and when ramgiri saw him he said that he felt like a puppet like he was being lifted from the top of his head and maharaja did this motion and he didn't understand what that meant and that he did it again and ramgiri didn't understand so the sadhus were laughing at ramgiri and one of them came to ramgiri and said it's okay now you can go and then he went to the temple to have the sun [Music] and one day in uh it was probably february or march 72 so i'd already been in india for two years and um i had a dream and i'm not a vivid dreamer i i don't always remember my dreams and um but i remembered this one very clearly there was a little man and a plaid blanket with his legs crossed so and he had the blanket was pulled over his knees so it was like a little triangle on the other side of a field with a little bald head sitting on top and he was going like this i knew i needed to meet new corolla because i dreamed about him and i met several more of his devotees i finally i went to brindavan and i went to meet him all these westerners were sitting around and some indian people standing around he looked up and he saw me he went like this and he saw me again and then i sat down kind of far away and he was like this piece of glue poster and finally he kept doing like that just laugh you know because he wanted to let me know he knew he knew he'd come the dream yeah [Music] um [Music] [Music] you know this is when mirabai says to god baba and bring him up he says you know i don't meet women she says oh i thought we were all women [Music] the way my writing was christian and everybody was scoping the hearts are all and gopis [Music] according to my understanding is an integral element of one's spiritual progress it comes as a intense desire to do something that itself is power without that it all becomes dry without that it's not possible to practice anything you might end up in illusion that i read somewhere the heart that has to break you know if you your heart stays in one piece you won't understand what is love it has to break you give everything you're you're ready to give up everything so what is that it's a feeling right it's not intellectual or it's not acrobatic it's not breathing [Music] he said remember god for me he's god and chanting the names uh i bring me deeper into his presence that's what i want that's where i want to be i don't know anything else i don't know who hanumanji is i don't know who romney is and i don't know who maharaja is but i do have certain experiences there that i can lock in on and i'm very blessed with that i mean i i wouldn't be alive [Music] [Applause] [Music] it looks like i'm singing to people but i'm serving him that's by his grace i'm serving him not by my own there's no way i could do this by myself on my own i'm just a transmitter like a radio he's the music do you feel he's more present when you're singing that he's ever present everywhere all the time it's whether we're paying attention or not so when we're chanting we are paying more attention [Applause] [Music] especially a large group of people who get together with the same motivation that's very powerful so we we have a different quality of experience at that moment he hasn't changed he didn't come closer or went further away we change the way we're living in that moment [Applause] [Music] my [Music] hey [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] krishna krishna [Music] because he had said you know i'll go i'll run away nobody will find me where will you run where we can't find you oh there by the name [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] when he left his body in september 73 it was you know for us it was definitely like a media correction you know it was it you know we didn't know what to do [Music] [Applause] with foreign [Music] [Applause] when he was first diagnosed he would call me sometimes and i always knew it was him because they're already said apple people and i picked up sometimes larry you still believe in mohanji i said yes of course steve why why you still believe yes of course i said steve are you okay he said i've just been diagnosed with cancer can you come talk to me about my harassing again i asked him what would he have any disappointments in his life and he had three but one was that he never met maharishi in person and when he died he had a copy of miracle love on his bed stan and a picture that carriage had given him of maharaji and the one blanket that we had [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign here [Music] [Applause] [Music] certain moments come when you can grasp a little spark from this night siddhas yeah you suddenly say class did you see how many people come i said yes hundreds of people will come from monkey so nobody asks about did you see i said yes everybody is worried about his family then he used to be in tears [Music] you can attain much more than in this karuga just by singing the glory of god and man and having the satsangh these seeds icelands [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] this is the advice you need today so open it up and it was all in hindi of course and it said [Music] and covered with rounds and when i go back to the ashram and i say what is this advice well that's the only important advice every day [Music] but his chanting of the mantra is not the same as a normal ordinary man's chanting of the mantra that is something we have to know and when maharaj said it need not mean ayodhya sudha brahmana real essence of ram which is [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] huh [Music] you just sit in front of me by his sight by his uh what you call silence by his words by his touch or just sitting in front of he he your whole being can be changed within no time this is true this is the quality [Music] because they don't have a [Music] order to maintain or a particular hero worshipping plan out there for them it's the freedom so so if you ask me if there is a word that can define uh maharaja i can say freedom there are no norms the unconditioned can't be put into any conditional terms [Music] his teachings weren't discourses you didn't have to engage your mind it's so simple and his teaching is so simple and yet the most difficult to really really embrace love everyone serve everyone remember god and tell the truth no so i mean sounds simple but try to really do it try loving everybody [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] even from the first time sitting on the side of the road i started talking to him in my head okay what does this mean who are you and why do i feel so different and i've that's my practice and sometimes without me asking he says things to me not in a voice but in like oh okay i foreign foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] even now new devotees have that feeling of unconditional love from him that there's nothing about them that is not okay when it comes to his love and i've seen it people come into the ashram and taos and they don't know anything but they wind up sitting and looking at his picture by the tucket and the next thing you know they're crying and they're sobbing and they're like oh and you say what why are you okay and they're like so much love from him it's just a picture but they're feeling him even now and i think that's uh that's the remarkable thing about him [Music] during my life we've had deaths of you know my son died we've had times that were really hard and um i'm going through my own you know dark night of the soul and we keep coming back to maharaji it isn't that faith is the fire that never goes out or it gets dim or it's challenged is that faith is such a strong fire that always rekindles [Music] if you define grace as good things only i i think you're missing the point um actually randos came up with a term that's quite interesting called fear scripts and uh his stroke is an example it's not that he protected us from those because the the grace is the growth of acceptance grief is a very powerful experience and it's uh it's not an unusual experience but what is the grace of it is it's allowed me to be compassionate in ways i never was to have empathy that i never had i thought it was a pretty good god i found out i had a lot to learn [Applause] [Music] and he said you know once i take your hand i never let go even when you let go of mom [Music] you know this is true that we don't always recognize yeah and when we lose the awareness of that we suffer but when we have the awareness of that we're okay with whatever happens so for us for devotees his devotees we're okay when we remember him we forget why not it's that simple [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] the grace is so gentle it's just like not imposing very subtle and you may listen to the touch or not it's up to the moment this is why these moments are so unique they are giving everything all the time and we are taking so little and mostly refuse [Applause] [Music] what i can learn in this very moment if i'm really like a flower open to the sun [Music] [Applause] [Music] they have their very good heart all this does they can turn your mind in any direction ramana there is a couplet [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] came to me on my birthday last year 50 years ago since i saw him and he gave me a big hug he said i want you to know i love you because i never felt he loved me but i thought that was a strange experience i spent all that time sitting with that fat naked guy that he hardly talked to me and now he comes after 50 years he hadn't forgotten about me do you know what i mean [Music] that he knew 50 years ago what my destiny was when he said finally you got it you got it like that it's inside you see he want everybody ultimately to find the guru within [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] hello [Music] [Music] momentum [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] you
