More Pat is always good. He might be my favorite jazz musician period, and definitely my favorite guitarist. I recommend starting chronologically, since Bright Size Life is seriously jaw-dropping
His buddy Jaco Pastorius is also a killer bassist who made similar material, his self-titled album from 1976 is great
This is not what you were probably expecting but this style of fusion really starts flirting with late 70s jazz rock (or yacht rock). Something like Steely Dan - Aja might be up your alley. Less improvisation but still plenty and those dudes can play
Check out Billy Cobham. I own Spectrum and the Compass Point recordings and they're both awesome.
is it me or does dave's hand position look a little odd? never noticed that
anyways you can't go wrong with more Pat, personally I loved his stuff with mark egan and lyle mays
How much jazz do you know? Is this the first jazz album you've listened to, or do you know a good amount? That'll help with figuring out a suggestion.
Btw, I've never heard this recording and it's absolutely fantastic. Thank you for sharing!
There's a chance you might like the album Grasshopper by Wayne Johnson Trio.
Pat is amazing and this band with Dave Holland, Jack Dejohnnete and Herbie Hancock is hard to beat. You should try listening to E.S.T. or more recently The Bad Plus. Of course from Pat you can try Letter From Home (album), but it's hard to find a album from Pat that is not good.
Maybe some Bad Plus in your life could satsify the craving? This is one of my favorites from them!
John Abercrombie - Timeless
There's a joan baez or joni mitchell live album where pats band backs her that is really good.
