[Music] [Music] I didn't know anything so I learned to play on the Jazz master and the whammy and the pickups you know switching pickups that once I started learning on the Jazz Master it was hard to go to another guitar because I you know I was using the whammy a lot and clean I'd always use both pickups and then when I hit the fuzz I'd switch to this pickup so that I'd have to do it at the same time that's why I thought it was insane when I picked up the Jazz Master the other day on this which was up here I'm like how do you even play this it's like what it was so weird because I'm constantly clean as both and dirty as you know the bridge pickup so I'm always like you know hitting the pedal switching the pickup it was all a big dance of stuff to do yeah there wasn't a strat or whatever yeah I had 400 bucks and suddenly the strap was 450. 400 in the paper but when you get there it's 450. 50 so I didn't have the cash if I had had 50 more dollars I would have bought this guitar probably which was 450 and the Jazz master was 300 so finally after all these years I finally got not that I knew much about guitars I just thought I wanted to write songs and I thought the fender sound would be better it's kind of more acoustic you could do like open chords more and yeah it's cool I played it a bit I did a new heavy blanket album which is like my instrumental band where I play everything and just kind of jam I was using the Strat on some of that [Music] [Applause] [Music] this is the Telly or base the J mask is teleon that I played most all the leads I've ever done on for some reason are like playing leads on this guitar my first Telly it's yeah 58. yeah this is probably my favorite guitar I own it was refinished when I got it so I figured I could just refinish it again first I put blue um drum covering on I got you know the idea from Gretch so I just like glued on the blue drum covering until I got it painted I had some motorcycle guy do it the guy told me when I got it from him this he put a 56 pickup in it so that's all I know about it and they're out of phase they told me at Fender because people when the guitar came out they're like oh that's an interesting how to phase sound you have in your guitar I'm like I've never tried playing both pickups at once so I didn't know they were out of phase okay so in the studio are you playing all the leads on that in all the Rhythm tracks on the Jazz master no usually not yeah that's the thing Studio there's hardly ever a jazz master or a big muff on any studio recording [Music] yeah this guitar um if you sit like this and then like this it'll go out of tune but I use this on like the opening riff of out there I had had it it was kind of new to me then and I had a Tweed band master and it's just straight into that and I really liked that sound it was really crunchy I had got some a lot of other Juniors but this one is the most nasty sounding I always like this color I don't know why most people think it's most people think it's hideous but I think I saw Uh Kevin Shields had a six string guitar like this and I really like the color so that I found the base and I also have the 12 string this color yeah and I played a red one like this in um grease once it was like the backup base they had and I thought that was really cool so then I got I found the blue one I'd been looking for it for a while yeah a lot of purists poo poo the black Hardware look but I don't know I'm into it it's a 65p base same guy had one just like it who had this telly The Studio Fort Apache in Boston this guy had all these cool guitars they had that SG Junior shoe so that's where I learned about a lot of guitars early on and so I've tried to find one just like the one he had because it has a big flat neck 65. [Applause] thank you there's so many petals now yeah I'm trying I don't know quite a bit but yeah the big muff's the hardest to replace I guess that would be one and uh I mean my clean sound well it used to be this one and then I got the the black one with five knobs the smaller one which that's the one I use now you know with my setup I wanna the clean sound to have some kind of grit and sound cool but I want it to be quiet too so when you hit the big muff it gets louder and a lot of overdrives can't do that is like make a cool sound at a really low volume and this is one pedal that can do that for a while I had a big wreck I had a groove tubes preamp that I liked a lot then I had a marshall preamp then I went back to the this and that actually sounds the best or there's some big pedal that I wouldn't mind trying but it's way too heavy and to put on a board so I there's one Roth built tone vendor range Master yeah maybe that's number three now I use that that's big recording too that it's kind of like with the big muff live but you kind of just use that to start most sounds recording it's a copy of a mark one tone bender and I had never heard of Mark onetone Bender he's just like oh check this out it's this circuit is cool I mean I wrote the thing on it that says mark one time Benjamin nice hopefully there's a battery in it [Music] [Music] I like the way they sound together you know that's maybe my favorite lead sound now live is the two of those together [Applause] [Music] yeah I like all those beetronics things I like a lot even the simple you know the little two knob fuzz somehow sounds awesome yeah yeah I don't know what they're up to but it sounds pretty cool their stuff it's always good to start with the Big muffin ad for us [Music] I remember writing a song on this guitar yeah I have a memory of the song not the same which is on uh where you've been I wrote on this concern if it wasn't too [Music] what's that 660 something yeah something Jesus and Mary Chain had this guitar that's I think why I wasn't doing it at the time I remember I bought this and uh this one guitar shop opened in Boston which took all the Vintage stuff from all its shops Daddy's junkie music and made it into one store it was called like DJ price or something so the one that opened they had all these cool guitars you know this was their vintage shop and I remember I bought this in a Lake Placid blue Jazz Master the same day it was actually right before I got to tell you I think 90 a few months before this was like 600. so was the um the Jazz master I think yeah this is like the third Jazz master I ever got but it had humbuckers so at the time I had to buy an entire new Jazz Master just to get the pickups and then I put Seymour Duncans in that one and sold it to someone but yeah you couldn't get pickups they had Seymour Duncan one model but it didn't sound right so I bought a whole guitar just for the pickups for this guitar so both these guitars same day yeah these same day so yeah so this is my third ever Jazz master that one I bought after I got all our stuff stolen like for some reason they had this guitar in a local shop and they never have anything old and so I've got that like yeah whenever I got 2 000 mid 2000s when right after all our stuff got stolen and I used that for a long time as my main guitar I was following this on reverb yeah it's I guess it's Hollow also if it sounds like [Music] this has the best whammy that I have for regretch foreign a lot of guitars I buy because I want a certain sound I've heard you know you know Telly because of Keith Richards or or you know I bought this SG with P90s because of the wipers Greg Sage [Applause] [Music] got this for the new album I was in kind of a Thin Lizzy phase and I was like I need the Thin Lizzy guitar and um yeah I used it on uh what's that song go oh the first song on the album whatever it's called oh yeah I used the this pickup and it's in like a open G tuning or something yeah 72 it's got the um the embossed pickup covers which I think are cool I had to play one show Once with the last fall and at Maxwell's dust diamonds Les Paul sounded weird for sure [Music] yeah I bought this guitar I was with Kim Gordon in New York and it was two hundred dollars one of the pickups didn't work and she's like well if you don't buy it I'm gonna buy it so yeah I could have also bought a Jag when I bought the Jazz Master they had a Jag for 200 Jazz 300 but I picked it up and I was like I don't know and the Jazz also had Grover's which I had seen on the back of like Frampton Comes Alive or records and I was yeah I love the look it looks awesome I put like so many different pickups in this just obviously just to see if it would be cool I still like it just because it's this is the first Jag I got and I don't I have like a Johnny Marr one he gave me or something or that's my on the other Jag doesn't work at all for me really nothing about it works [Music] got a 58th Jazz master I made it more gold I put like gold Hardware I think it had Gold Hardware originally but I made it more gold the 359s that we've last sold 19. 22. 26. I know I've been playing one live of 59 and I saw stuff like that and I'm just like I was getting a little freaked out I'm like I didn't bring it to Europe this time when we lost all our gear I think where I brought like a 63 we finished one I don't know what those are like six or seven or that's my favorite one to play as a 59 but I remember I bought two at once I got this um you know I played drums in this bandwitch we got a royalty check for twelve thousand dollars I didn't know what's coming and I'm like oh I have twelve thousand dollars in and then I bought two 59 Jazz's for twelve thousand dollars with the check and now they're worth more which is good okay I'm surprised because I'm not a very good usually not good at that sort of thing I'm always like buy high sell low [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music]
