Anyone who's handled 55-gallon drums for any length of time has learned the second one.

You can also move filled drums (400-550lb) by rolling it on it's rim, but it's much slower.

Another trick: If the area you're trying to move them from/to is in a straight line (like emptying out a 53' trailer) have your coworker drop it on its side and roll it at a good speed toward you, and at the last second you stick your boot* under the upper rim and it'll pop upright so you can grab it.
