if you love expedition and explore eos and you also have a soft spot for catamarans then there is a good chance that you will like silver cloud although the technical name for this rather unique and eye-catching vessel is small water plane area twin hull or swath for short the design and configuration of the hull on silver cloud means that she has exceptional sea keeping capabilities in rough seas and if you have followed my channel for any length of time then you will know just how much i enjoy rough weather cruising [Music] the buoyancy of a swath ship is provided by two submarine hulls connected to the upper platform by twin narrow struts from each of the submarine hulls the cross-sectional area at the sea surface is approximately one-sixth of that of a similar sized yacht hence only a minimum part of the ship is exposed to the lifting forces of the waves whilst 5 6 of the buoyancy is on the submarine hulls and what does this all mean well it means that when you do encounter that inevitable bad weather then silver cloud will ensure that your voyage is as smooth as it can be additional stability is provided to this vessel in the form of a vast beam twice the size of a comparable yacht not only that but silver cloud has four large stabilizers which are controlled by an incredibly sophisticated computer system notice in this clip how the monohull vessel in the wreaks which are designed to provide a working platform with minimized motions in open and heavy seas silver cloud has a length overall of 134 feet which is 41 meters meanwhile her beam is an impressive 58 feet or 17.8 meters she has a draft of 13 and a half foot or just over four meters under normal cruising conditions she has a displacement of 600 tons and can carry 21 000 gallons of fuel or 79 500 liters when it comes to speed silver cloud has a top speed of 14 knots with a cruising speed of 12.5 knots she is powered by twin 1100 horsepower turbocharged caterpillar c32 diesel engines if you're happy to motor along at 10 knots then you can expect to travel 3 500 nautical miles between filling up her tanks silver cloud was built by abe king and rasmussen in 2008 and has a still hull with an aluminium [Music] superstructure when it comes to accommodation the master suite is located on the upper deck it has a king-sized bed with his and her bathrooms a jacuzzi and a separate study [Music] the guest accommodation comprises of two king-sized bed cabins both with ensuite bathrooms as well as twin cabins with ensuite bathrooms each with a pullman berth [Music] unfortunately i could not find any pictures of the crew accommodation but she has a double captain's cabin one twin engineers cabin and three twin cabins [Music] as you can imagine the communal areas on this explorer yacht are vast it would be easy to find a place to have a bit of time out with so much internal volume when it comes to her inventory of toys silver cloud is like the explorial version of a swiss army knife she has one 39 foot or 11.9 meter intrepid sport yacht with a total of three 300 horsepower yamaha engines she also has a 15 foot inflatable rescue boat with a 40 horsepower 4 stroke outboard motor and if you are keen diver then silver cloud also has an extensive range of diving equipment silver clouds heli deck can accommodate a helicopter of up to 2.8 tonnes in weight which is 6173 pounds since starting this channel i've learned that you my subscribers love trawler expedition and explorer yachts this is great because my 32 year love affair with boats
