we are on the icefield parkway this has been on our radar for a long time when we came this way and uh our Canadian national park pass covered it so here we go let's see how much Wildlife we can find rated as one of the top drives in the world Canada's ice Fields Parkway is a mustsee this two-lane Highway winds along the continental divide with more than 100 glaciers countless waterfalls dramatic mountainscapes beautiful Alpine Emeral Lakes thick forest and lots of wildlife because the icefield parkway links bam and Jasper National Parks you will need a pass you can buy a daily pass of $10.50 per person per day or you can buy the Discovery Pass that grants you access to all of Canada's national parks for $145 per family it doesn't matter what time of year you come you will find beauty around every corner we are visiting in late May and almost all the iconic Alpine Emerald Lakes are still frozen but the snowcapped mountains are Exquisite I think one can drive this drive once every season and still not see all the beauty the parkway has to show you [Music] [Music] [Music] this is our first official Glacier on the ice field I think this is called B Lake [Music] cow foot Glacier Crowfoot Glacier okay yeah it's way up there on that ledge yeah that's awesome [Music] as you travel along the parkway be on the lookout for stopped traffic if you see a cluster of cars like this one grab your camera there's bound to be something that you're going to want to take a picture of and please be patient and cautious as some cannot resist the urge to stop in the road get out and take pictures [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] [Music] this stop is just for rle yep let's go down to the water [Music] rle easy no pull good boy good boy let's go this way let's go this way [Music] R oh right in the water riddle is that really necessary okay come on come on riddle all right let's make sure there's no bears around and let's give little rud a little off leash time yeah I don't see any bears riddle let's go play Let's Go Play Come On riddle oh boy oh he's happy he needed this break wow it's beautiful out here here's a look where we came from and this is the direction that we're heading [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] well I think rle had a great time did you have a good time rle did you have a good time yep it's time to head back to the van we got miles to put on we got places to go rutal [Music] the Columbia icefield Visitor Center has everything the wey traveler might need a Starbucks two restaurants a gift shop an art gallery Glacier Expeditions and of course overnight lodging [Music] this is the self- register station for Columbia icefield RV camping we are about halfway between Jasper and bamp and we are camping right next to a glacier so we're hoping to take a hike and get a closer look at that getting a little bit of snow in the air right now it is a Brisk 34° I believe so just above freezing and we're parked over here in the corner just breathtaking mountains behind us all right we're taking off for the hike Carrie and Steve are staying behind they may be able to get some pictures with that camera there's a sheep on the road oh there's sheep on the road go down there fast get a good picture of it oh awesome go Steve go go get him Steve oh wow a that what good timing you better get rle Carrie [Music] St [Music] we are off so we're going to get onto the road onto the other side into the parking lot and then walk up the hill to the glacier it looks like at least a mile and a half maybe two miles we'll see this is the one technical part of the hike I guess and doesn't feel too slippery I'm digging right in no problem little bit of fresh snow up here from this morning woo it's deeper than it looks all right that's the closest sign I think we're going to make it to everything's fenced off doesn't let us get any closer right in front of us is actually the river that comes out of the glacier with snow on top and ice and then you go over the next hump and that's where the glacier actually starts I'd say still at least a half mile away but we didn't make it to the glacier we did the waves hitting the ice is making just the coolest sound had to stop and just record a little bit of it today we are waking up to 28° fah or -2° C so it's quite a Brisk morning this is the last week of May and we woke up again to a few snow flurries so yesterday I posted a picture on Facebook of the beautiful Glacier over here and I got questioned somebody said you paid 1750 to Boondock in a parking lot and yes yes we did so the icefield parkway is 144 miles and if you could drive it straight through it would take you approximately 6 hour Excuse Me 3 hours but the first half that's only supposed to take an hour and a half took us 3 hours so the nice thing about the Columbia icefield is it's almost directly in middle so you pay $1,750 there's trash there's bathrooms you enjoy the beautiful Glacier you take a walk and then the next day you get up and you drive the second half of the lake so I think 17750 was well worth the money now the icefield parkway is in National Park you are not allowed to Boondock anywhere along the way you will need to stay in campgrounds at the lodge or the paid parking lot and because it is May a good portion of the campgrounds are still not open yet and if they were open you'd be paying probably more than ,750 so yes my answer is paying 1750 to stay in the parking lot was well worth the [Music] [Music] money this is a roadside waterfall we just pass up and we're super early in the morning and there's nobody else here so it's good timing still getting a few snowflakes this morning at 28° it feels like winter for sure look at this waterfall [Music] [Music] [Music] yeah this is one of those waterfalls where you don't even have to get out of the vehicle if you don't want to pretty cool first waterfall of the day I wish you could drone it up I know I've think of the same thing if I could just get the Drone up there but it's National Park it is pretty unique waterfall I don't think I've ever seen one quite like it no it's kind of cool the way it comes off the top and then it all gathers together before it takes a couple jumps [Music] [Music] [Music] in addition to the Columbia icefields RV parking there are 11 campgrounds and over a dozen Scenic Trails the busiest two months of the year are July in August and it is estimated that 100,000 Vehicles travel the parkway each month [Music] [Music] [Music] that grow so there's three busloads of people here right now and it's 9:00 a.m. in the morning probably would have been really really great to hit this about 7 a.m. we didn't want to pass it up so we're enduring the crowds so here we are wow okay that's kind of cool there's a big log stuck down in that one for [Music] so I opted to do the lower Trail because there are four tour buses up top but look how cool this is [Music] I think I may have found a Nook all to myself well I can see why all the tour us to stop here this waterfall is amazing I've always heard don't rush through Canada it's beautiful it is not disappointing look at [Music] this Canada e beautiful [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] we are ending our icefield Parkway Journey with a tram to the top of Jasper and it's snowing Daren Steve now it's cold wow [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] [Music] we hope you have enjoyed coming along with us on this epic drive if you ever get the chance add this drive to your mustsee list cameras can only capture a small glimpse of the beauty you will
