yo so we're doing a bike check today on my brand new bike sat right behind me now we've got the zero katipo and I'm going to do a quick overview of the bike we're going to take a look at it look at the specs and look at how much of a beef this bike is zero ctio the brand that's based out of New Zealand but has been Making Waves now in the last few months years with their new gearbox technology or what the bikes don't use trailers so as you can see here we've got a pinion gear box there's no derailer there on the on the back to smash off the floor to rip off it's a belt drive so there's no Chains It's a carbon belt drive and we have 170 mil travel up front around 160 mil travel on the rear and just look at this piece it's absolutely beautiful it's kind of an Enduro bike kind of a Do-it all bike for me it's full 29er so we've got 29er front and rear I've ridden it now for a couple of weeks so it's still fairly to me but it's exciting so gearbox technology and having no derail it has been something that's been really interesting to me I first came across Z Road when they first launched their G1 down bike five six years ago maybe even longer than that was blown away by the fact you could build a goodlooking bike with a gearbox and I'd seen people using them but never actually ridden one before I got the katipo so this is all brand new to me probably brand new to a lot of people watching this people scratching their heads wondering what even is all this technology so I'm going to take you through some of it now so let's look at the spec first all right so we've got the D Onyx D1 Fork on the front this is D's brand new 38 mil stunion Fork it is an absolute Beast Supple off the top but yet super Progressive for all his big hits we're also running on the back currently got the airshock on here so we've got D's new topaz Prime airshock which is pretty cool I have a coil shock to try on this as well which would be interesting Wheels this year we have have Santa Cruz Reserve wheels or just Reserve Wheels they're called and we've got them built onto Chris King hubs which are as most people aware super reliable and the rear hub makes the best noise ever aluminum rear wheel carbon front wheel we've got 32 spokes on the rear 28 spokes in the front just to try and save a little bit of weight so all the gearing is done inside the pinion gearbox so I'll turn the bike around now and show you that so this is the gearbox you can see it just literally Nestles down around the bottom bracket see there it's quite small compact and all the shifting is done in here so it's all electric as well it's got this new smart shift technology previous zero used to have um grip shift on this we actually have a trigger shifter which is all electric [Music] you know what the difference is between shifting with a pinion gearbox like this and a traditional derailer well on this we can shift without having to Pedal so on a traditional triler you'd have to Pedal to get the chain spinning to actually change gear on this say for example if I'm going around a corner or going for a section of Trail or going off a jump and want to shift in the air I can do that without pedaling so I can set myself up for the next bit of track and get myself in the right gear to Pedal one thing I've noticed this is very different when you're pedaling uphill uh or once change gear cuz you can't just change gear under maximum load like the actual sensor in the motor won't allow you to do that so you have to change gear at the top and the bottom of the pedal stroke where there's less torque or the motor has like a sensor in it and it will sense when there is less torque the bike is completely silent cuz there's no derail to slap around the belt drive doesn't touch anything doesn't slap off your frame super impressed I'm actually here at seata in California for the Big Bike Expo event and there's some races going on so I've chosen to do the D race on the CPO which is a bit Overkill but it's been good to trying to get used to the bike out here and riding it in the local trails in the woods in Santa Cruz and let's look at some of the more granular specs so we've got the Lewis brakes there again lh4 with 200 mil rotors front and rear absolute trick pieces of Kit plenty of stopping power absolutely love these things there is a code if you guys want to grab a discount on these brakes in the description and look at this I don't know why they make these number boards so big look at the size of that look my hand for scale like they should just be the size of the Palm your hand like not this big especially with seata where you every second counts or every millisecond counts so this is just not aerodynamic at all I do have a mud hug or mud guard to go on this that will be on the bike for every other riding condition this cool thing here is the battery that charges the motor and the shifter so this is like enclosed in the Box you can just charge this with a USB uh cable this like runs down into the frame there it's all watertight pinion cranks on here very interesting I think these are 165 mil cranks so it's good length of pedaling and we've also got a new partner this year which is title so title are helping out this year with uh pedals flat pedals anyway handlebars Chrome handle bars going on and we got stems as well real cool looking piece of Kit chriskink headset obviously keeping things running smooth bike yolk seat posts really impressed with these things so far this is just a 170 mil drop post really smooth cable drop post and then for confidence and traction we're back on the WTB tires so we've got judge 2.4 on the back and the verdict 2.5 on the front my choice tire for most things with a new compound so more on that soon but very impressed those new tires for anyone wondering as well quite compact area this but we can fit a bottle cage in here as well which is kind of useful but I think it looks really really neat and a kpo for anyone wondering is a spider so that's the zero CPO weapon of choice this year we've got some more interesting builds coming which is going to be cool for the rest of the year I'm absolutely hyped on this build so this is going to be used for my pretty much all round Free Ride video Project Bike we have the down bike coming from zero which is also really exciting cuz they look absolutely insane again gearbox in there as well and then ebikes stay tuned for that I've got some really interesting coming from that and yeah I'm going to show you some footage now from riding the kpo for the first time [Music] oh it is got it now
