Is this obscure Terraria weapon worth your time?

[Music] when it comes to terraria's Mage class you're given a load of weapon options to choose from throughout the game and while some of these choices can be a bit on the wacky side of things they usually fall into one of three distinctive categories wands guns and spell bugs today we're going to be taking a look at a relatively unpopular post Mech wand that is actually an upgrade to another early hard mode weapon of course I'm talking about the Venom staff the thing is around this point there are plenty of fantastic ones to choose from like the crystal Serpent and in holy Trident so the question is does the Venom staff pack enough of a punch to be worth getting and just how far can it take you into progression before we delve into this though if you enjoy videos like these don't forget to drop like And subscribe as it truly helps out the channel okay then let's jump into it as mentioned the Venom staff is in fact an upgrade to another Mage weapon obtained earlier in the game the poison staff and unfortunately for us getting this could be the make or break for this weapon as it can be a right nuisance to obtain basically you're going to want to farm black recluses which spawn in or around spider nests now already I can hear the screams because they'll put it lightly black recluses are an absolute nightmare to deal with even in mid hard mud however if you keep your distance like this and get yourself set up outside the nest with a long-ranged weapon like the life drain you should be able to kill a large quantity of them quickly and here's where the other problem comes in the drop rate for some reason the poison stuff has a measly 2.5 chance of dropping which I'd be fine with on normal occasions but these are black recluses we're talking about assuming you do get your hands in it the poison stuff itself isn't actually that far off the upgrade we're going to be looking at today anyway assuming you do want the Venom staff all you need to do is head to your jungle post Mech and mine some chlorophyte with a spawn compulsion it shouldn't take too long to mine the 70 or we need once you're done head to the forge to smelt them into bars then finally an anvil to craft the one and only Venom staff alright lay let's take a look at what it can do upon use the Venom staff will fire 4-7 venom-fang projectiles which inflict the acid Venom debuff upon contact with an enemy it's also worth noting that unlike other inflicted Venom this will last a whopping 30 seconds that's three times what you deliver with regular Venom arrows as you can see it's single Target DPS is comparable but that of the Unholy Trident a similar style weapon obtainable around the same point interestingly though the dummies don't account for the acid tick damage a major feature of this weapon so the actual multi-target GPS may be considerably higher either way with the ability to pierce multiple targets losing 25 damage per pass the Venom staff operates at a similar level to its closest competitor however this is all assuming an almost best case scenario where most the projectiles hit so what's it like in a real scenario and if I'm honest while it still does a more than fine job dealing with groups the widespread just isn't for me and despite having a slightly lower overall DPS the Unholy Trident can deal with lines much quicker also when it comes to tankier single targets like biomimics uh average is the word that comes to mind so Wallace may not be looking great let's see if it can make a comeback with bosses and marvelously I have to say against larger targets like fonterra it does just farm farm it does just fine feeling very similar damage to other Mage weapons available at this point also despite being a jungly boss the acid Venom can be inflicted dealing an additional 1 800 damage per minute so I guess we have to see now how it does against Gollum as you'd expect the vulnerabilities of this boss are similar to ponterra and despite its larger Health pool went down quite quickly with little effort I'm glad to see this weapon came a little bit more useful against bosses but other than that I'm not too sure if it was worth going through the pain of farming black recluses for I mean are you really gonna hang on to it postpontera when stuff like the razor Pine inspector snap exists I'd love to hear if you've used the Venom stuff far and if you think it's worth it this has been Socrates and I'll see you in the next one
