oh excellent not find out where I am and why this gate is locked later in the video it is December 2023 Saturday afternoon and I'm at the wonderful Birmingham Mo Street station Today's mission is to catch a train from birmingham's most awkward to visit and leas H station which typically get just one train stopping per week in the recently published office of Road and rail station usage statistics for 2022 23 this station actually had 9,088 passengers how is that accurate we'll find out as I'm on my way to Bardsley I'm on a southbound train from Mo Street to small Heath station which goes fast through Bardsley from small Heath I'll walk back to Bardsley hoping that the person opening up the station has indeed done so that's good news or so I thought now I'm here I've now got to wait for the 1347 whitlocks end to kidster service which stops at Bley at 1408 Bley railway station was opened by the Great Western Railway In 1855 on their route from London Paddington to birkenhead Woodside now significantly downgraded it did have four platforms and used to bring cattle to the bull ring markets it is above street level with a Viaduct Crossing Coventry Road look closely at street level and you will spot the former gents however the gate at the top of the stairs is still locked as the train I want to catch approaching as I frustratingly point my camera through a gap in the railings the 1408 stops at the platform on time and sets off for Mo Street minus me and thankfully didn't leave any passenger stranded on the platform before I wrap up this video there are a couple of questions still to answer why did the station have around 9,000 passengers in 2022 23 with what appears to be a minimal service Birmingham City's St Andrew stadium is around a half a mile or a 10-minute walk from bordley station and additional trains do stop on a Saturday afternoon Match Day the fact that in 20221 during the pandemic when football was played in an empty Stadium just 120 passengers used the station which perhaps suggest how few nonf football fans use it so I walked back to the city center and asked a member of staff at Mo Street why the gates to the platforms at bordy were locked they said that the station is now only open when Birmingham city are at home thanks for watching don't forget to subscribe and give the video a thumbs up and I'll see you on the next one
