hello and welcome to another video and another video with the Triumph Speed 400 so I've been riding this bike around uh for a couple of weeks so I can give you my final kind of verdict on it so this bike has been super popular with journalists and owners alike and even I after the first ride uh video I was very impressed with it but now that I've ridden it for 2 weeks am I still impressed with it or are there a little bit of uh you know are there some downsides to the bike so let's uh throw a leg over it and see what we think 790 mm seat height nice and low so if you are short of leg this will be just fine I've got my trusty ultimate add-ons case they are a channel sponsor so if you're interested in getting one of these excellent cases for yourself for your bike go check the link in the description and uh yeah I've been using these for quite well I'm also using the Cali Moto app they are not a channel sponsor but uh it's a really good app I've been using that for a long time right let's uh start her up we can have a get that little TR series single cylinder thumping away if you're looking for tech specs do see my first ride review video which will be up there but yeah so I've been riding it for a couple of weeks and do I think this bike is worthy of all the praise it's been getting or are people kind of just glossing over loads of issues let's get into all of that jazz so we'll talk about that engine first the TR series engine it's not making a huge amount of power just shy 40 horsepower I think it's like 37 Newt MERS of torque or something like that anyway but uh it is quite Punchy and py and actually let's just show you we'll just stop here here make sure I can see if there's anything behind [Music] me we Third Gear 30 [Music] mph yeah I think he's got quite a nice delivery of power Dead Oh dead little mouse in the road it was that DJ wasn't it um yeah quite a Punchy py Little Engine I mean it's quite uh it does lose a bit out at the top end as you'd expect from a single cylinder but uh you're not really going to be well I don't think it's the sort of bike where you're going to be looking for top end you shouldn't be anyway somebody told me this will do 95 mph fully pinned I can't comment of course I can't comment cuz that is breaking the speed limit but uh yeah so I've heard 95 hor horsepower 95 mph is achievable in Mexico of course now this bike weighs 170 kg so it is very lightweight and uh boy can you feel that especially with that 17in front wheel it is ever so light and flickable and I think actually the bike really comes alive on these uh little back roads that's where the fun is to be had yeah you don't really want to be sitting on uh long straight roads you want to take this off piece a little bit I don't mean mud I mean like the little the little back roads the B roads your country lanes and that sort of stuff but we will do an over take cuz it can do it so you know even if it's got just shy 40 horses you can still overtake things let's just test these brakes again oh yeah they are surprising what I really like about the rates is the ABS doesn't seem to be too intrusive I mean I slammed on the anchors there and it didn't like pulse through the lever or anything so the implementation of the ABS is very very good now these bikes are built by an Indian company called bad Auto um and it's well known that they're built by this uh company but I think Triumph for kind of keeping that a little bit quiet but uh it's not a secret so I am going to talk about the quality the build quality and I'll be honest with you there isn't really anywhere on the bike that I can see visually that the bike is built by this other company or that it's built in in a kind of budget or to a budget shall we say it does look and feel every part Triumph certainly in the aesthetic Department I love this house really lovely there are a few kind of um functional things which I think do kind of tell a bit of a tale that it's not a it's not a pure Triumph and I will get into that in a bit but we're in fifth gear let's see roll on power I mean that's not terrible is it let's talk a little bit about comfort and Eros so it is quite a relaxed riding position and while my legs are bent they don't feel like super uncomfortable I've done about 2 hours on this bike and I'll be honest my knees didn't ache but my bottom certainly did so I don't find the seat too comfortable on a longer Journey after an hour and a half 2 hours I am definitely ready to get off and stretch my legs and give my body a little bit of reprieve it's got like a large bench style seat so you can kind of scoot around on it it is quite soft but I just yeah after about an hour and a half 2 hours I'm ready ready to get off but it's certainly uh All Things Considered it's a little bit more comfortable than I thought it might be and my knee I usually my right knee usually aches a lot but I've not had that pain on this bike uh talking about the other OS then the bars feel quite wide for a smaller bike Jesus H like it's a 30 I can't quite remember where I got to but uh one of the highlights of this bike is just how it handles because it's quite light but it's also got you know triumphs Triumph I don't think Triumph make any bad handling motorcycles if they do I don't think I've ridden one even my tiger 850 which you know okay it wasn't the most dynamic handling motorcycle it still handled fairly well but this thing when thrown at a set of B- roads that's where the fun is to be had so it's got an assistant sliter assistant sliter assist and slipper clutch and um six sixspeed gearbox as well the gearbox is lovely and lovely and Slick no real issues to talk about all in all it's just very very nice here we go so those uh big piston Forks up front do a fairly decent job when you do start to push on a little bit and uh when the road gets a bit bumpy they do get a little bit flustered oh we got a pheasant please after you good sir the little hop that's really funny yeah the suspension does get a little bit flustered if you try and push it on quite hard on bouncier or bumpy roads but if you if you're pushing on on a smooth surface is absolutely fine so something like uh you know like a nice aoad or something you could really have quite a bit of fun with this bike I'd love to take this on like a go-kart track I think that would be epic so let's talk about the tank so 13 L of fuel I'm getting an average of around about 60 m per gallon now quick maths I don't know what that is so I'll put it up on the screen now so that's what you can expect from a tank of fuel I would I would estimate around about 120 m not sure if I'm right or not at this point there are a few little issues with the bike it's not perfect like I find the um throttle response I'll just slow down a bit so you can hear me I do find the throttle response a little bit odd and some of what I mean by that is is the actual throttle tube it's really lightly sprung so it kind of feels like a bit of a toy like a toy throttle it's just it's there's no real satisfying resistance and it just feels a little bit strange to me and it can feel a little bit [Music] lurchy so it does feel like there's a little bit of hesitation when you sometimes when you just like open it up and you're on the gas it almost feels like there's a little bit of cond okay all right you're asking for full power okay yeah there's definitely a little bit of hesitation you do get used to it and it I don't think it would put me off buying one because it is again it's such a cheap motorcycle it's just under 5 grand at £4,995 I think the scramble is about an extra 6 or 700 lb off the top of my head I think it's 55 95 and it is the kind of bike that you just want to take out on a a little blast and you kind of want to ring its neck a bit you don't want to ride this thing sensitively but the beauty of it is because it's not overly powerful you can actually keep yourself reasonably within the all here we go yeah it's it's a real fun motorcycle and I actually think it it it's definitely living up to the hype I've got a hand it to Triumph they have uh made an excellent little bike but I would say if you are looking at buying one of these take one for a test ride see what you think if you're in bark here go and check out Bulldog Triumph they my local Triumph dealer and they will certainly look after you woo the back break is quite good as well quite uh quite a lot of bite from it so here we go we're doing the low speed stuff yeah slightly snatchy if you're not too careful with the throttle stick but once you get used to it it is perfectly usable yeah so I've been riding for I don't know half an hour I guess my bum is starting to hurt but then I had done like an hour to lumies power look at all these tis trying to eat one of their fallen Brothers yeah so just walking around the bike then I mean I really do think it looks every bit a Triumph I can't see anything obvious that looks like it's cheap or or tacky even the swing arm like the the way the machined they've machined the back part there and the uh Bolton subframe that all looks quite nice pretty good I guess the welds aren't amazing but they look all right LED rear light as well so the tires are pelli Diablo are the corses aren't they Roso cores Roso 3s yeah there's your uh LED DRL headlight big piston Forks as well so it is quite a small bike physically but when you actually get on it I I don't feel cramped I'm 5'8 with a 30in in inseam I can flat foot it but I don't feel cramped at all so this is the seat it is quite soft and I think perhaps if it was a bit firmer or a bit denser padding that might help I think that sounds fine the stock I probably wouldn't get an aftermarket can to be honest cuz I wouldn't want it to be too loud there's your single disc over there with the four piston radial radially mounted libr bar engine mirrors can't remember if these are standard or not I guess if I'm being picky you can sort of see the where they've uh put the clear coat over the decals so there's a bit of a lump there so you could argue that that's not quite as polished as their more expensive motorcycles so yeah everything else like even the engine that little TR series 398 CC single Thumper it does look really well put together very nicely machined some people were saying how they would have preferred the analog part of this to be the rev counter and then had the digital speed here not sure it's probably a 50/50 thing so the negatives the seat is not particularly comfortable on a longer journey I do find the throttle connecting a little bit a little bit toy like and yeah I guess that's a bit wibbly wobbly but I would like that to feel a bit more like it's got a bit more resistance and uh I am being super nitpicky but I feel like the startup Mo motor sounds a bit sort of cheap probably cuz it is do you know what I mean or is that just being overly fussy but you know the these are really really nitpicky things but essentially for a bike that's under £5,000 I think you really can't do wrong with this bike you can switch the traction control off but when you cycle the power on and off it does reset it back to on again I don't know whether that's an issue for you really it's surprisingly uh Pokey from the off when you open it up if you a larger person you'll probably get on better with the Scrambler 400x cuz it's you know a bit more room for your long legs that's not an issue I have to worry about but yeah this sort of bike loves these B- roads and I think this is is where these sorts of things really do come into their own these sort of bikes these small capacity bikes absolutely brilliant on the back roads so this road is quite bumpy and the suspension is not the most comfortable right now I'll be honest it is quite firm and hard but you know it's uh again it's a cheap bike it's not going to have the most sophisticated suspension setup but it is still fun I'll give it that it is still very much a fun motorcycle so if you're thinking about buying a Triumph Speed 400 or a Scrambler 400 I'm hoping this video has gone some way to help or answer a question that you might have had if it's not been any use to you at all I do apologize oh it's muddy and slidy and there gravel everywhere but that's okay cuz we've got this Nimble little Triumph to navigate these back roads I guess I kind of wanted to just see whether or not all the positive reviews for this bike were warranted and I have to admit they are they really really are to what this bike offers you it's absolutely fantastic you know it's not perfect I've mentioned the slight downsides that I found but uh the uh positives for the bike far out outweigh any negatives but you know don't just take my word for it Go and test one for yourself see what you think but again for the price I think it's absolutely awesome I'm hoping to get a scramble as well for a longer Term Loan so we'll see vibrations uh somebody did ask me about vibrations at higher speeds honestly I didn't really feel like it was anything to talk too much about because I expect bikes to have a bit of vibration and honestly I didn't feel like it was an issue so no I I wouldn't have said that that's uh something you need to think about really unless you're having the bike pinned at the red line all the time but uh you know at 70 M an hour it's uh it's perfectly fine even 80 heat management I can't feel any kind of adverse heat on my legs or heat is all good heat management is absolutely fine no issues there right hopefully this video has been of some use or at least entertaining but uh I'll probably end it just here but just want to say thank you very much for watching this video if you're not already subscribed I really appreciate you hitting that subscribe button it doesn't cost you anything extra but it really helps me out more than you know in fact and just remember if you do go out today do ride safely but have fun otherwise what's the point until next time you take care and peace [Music]
