what you've come to know as NGP our next Generation portable is officially named PlayStation vaita the piece Vita originally released way back in February of 2012 at least here in North America and I can't believe it's been 12 years since the PSV was original release it's been a probably going on six years of my time with the PSV and it has been a less than perfect time with the PSVita most people nowadays look at the VA as some awesome device that never really got its chance in the Sun and I enthusiastically agree but people tend to say the Vita is the best in X category this I'm like it's generally at one point could have been the best at something much like how people still say oh why I you know get any of these you know emulation devices you can just hack a PSP which I think is an inperfect solution to most modern emulation needs I mean yeah if you have a PSP might as well hack it and might as well put emulators on and stuff but if you're looking for like the best experience I don't necessarily think that those really offer the best experience as they used to cuz definitely better in cheaper Solutions have come out since then but the vaita is an interesting case it is uniquely positioned where it can offer actually a substantial amount of emulation performance and it of itself has such a vibrant home brewing Community here in 2024 and even recently as last year we saw the Advent of a lot of Android ports to the vaita people porting Android games all the GTA games for the most part except obviously GTA 5 and stuff coming to the vaita from their Android versions even dead space in like Call of Duty zombies so I think the vaita in nowadays has a very solid you know use case because most of these kinds of Android ports these games nowadays at least for the less popular ones aren't easily available on Modern platforms I know for the example of cod zombies that got delisted off of the Apple App Store way back in like 2017 I think is when the last time I saw remember seeing it there and you have to use an old version of iOS which isn't something you can easily do especially if you just bought a new iPhone you can't exactly roll back past the version you had it previously you it came with and unlike like I don't even think you can roll back the versions of iOS on an iPhone and maybe if you're like an an engineer at Apple you have that sort of you know industry Tech but I that is nowhere close to being you know consumer facing ever because I don't think Apple would ever release something like that because they are just the best aside from that back to the broader scope of this video the PS Vita has been uniquely positioned to be kind of one of the best places for Homebrew we've been seeing a lot of you know game ports games like Sonic Mania and other you know sort of Indie Games you know for like on the switch getting ported to the VA which is something we don't really see often on most other you know handheld platforms or even emulation devices I know at one point you're able to uh upload games like stardew Valley Sonic Mania and a few other Indie hits on certain am bernick devices but I haven't really heard much more than that in the last couple years but this development happening on the vaita has just exploded and I honestly don't see it ending anytime soon and technically speaking VA games are still being made in Japan there's like a handful of companies that still do it from the last time I checked but I think those are quickly ending or has already ended but it was it's still crazy to think that 12 years later the vaita was still getting games at some point which is awesome to see it's just deeply unfortunate Sony royally screwed up the Vita it's launch and life so while I might not necessarily agree with the idea of using the vaita or PSP for that matter as dedicated emulation devices at least nowadays especially given the price point you know you can buy these things at it still holds a great case for it being a awesome place for Homebrew and one of the best places to play V and PSP games I understand most of these emulation devices can emulate PS SP and I don't really see VA emulation being done often but I'm sure on the higher-end devices VA emulation can be done but there's simply no better place to play those games than on the Vita if I'm being honest with the native PSP emulation you can do on the Vita already it just makes it the best place in the easiest solution to do stuff like that and with how easy it is to home brew the Vita by liter going to a website and it auto hacks the thing for you and of course there's some extra things you got to do yourself but the vast majority of the hard stuff got automated over the last couple years it's been so nice I unfortunately originally hacked my Vita way back in I think like 2019 or 2020 kind of time frame and it was a lot harder to do back then than it is now and it's just that Improvement and involvement of the community over time that has very much simplified the process making it more open for more people to do that aren't necessarily you know techsavvy or you know computer inclined if you're new to this home brewing Community I'll just list off some of the things you can do you there's PKG for those of you who know what it is you also would agree with me that's the best thing on the vaita there's the um adrenaline software you can download for PSP emulation you can get um Dreamcast uh and you can get a DS1 but doesn't work for me but I don't know if others have gotten it to work yet of course there's retroarch so you can play basically up until the Dreamcast uh but n64's little buggy Dreamcast is Hit or Miss but everything below that works fantastic one of the more recent things you could do with Homebrew the aformentioned Android ports have been phenomenal those are one of my favorite things to suggest people to go check out especially if they're new to the the VA home BR scene and so much more if I'm being honest one of the things I did with my VA when I hacked it was find a way to upload my own video files to it which I know there was is an easier way to do it but I didn't have the access I couldn't figure out the software if I'm being honest Q qcma sucks and it would constantly auto connect and disconnect it was a mess so after resolving that issue by hacking the VA I was able to upload a bunch of my own you know saved movies videos off the internet all that onto my v and it became a very important part of my you know younger past self's life because not having you know unlimited data I had to have find some way to entertain myself on road trips or whenever I didn't have internet or cell service I remember taking my VA to school sometimes purely because I had downloaded videos to it and our school at the time had like a YouTube blocker so even if you on like your own device watching YouTube on your phone unless it was it just simply wouldn't work or it was too slow for it to function so having my V with me playing games watching saved videos was really really nice and I guess the VA is mostly just all about convenience it is really easy to nowadays Homebrew the Vita and it's really easy to get all these you know ported games emulators custom other softwares out there there and it's what brings me back to you know sort of the thesis of the video does the V still hold up in 2024 is it still worth it for those of you who already own aita yeah it is an amazing device and I highly encourage you to you know explore more things to do with it those of you who don't have a Vita if you want it for the purposes I've listed go right ahead it is one of the best systems out there for Homebrew and it has just an amazing community and a lot of thing fun things you can do if you're looking it for it as a dedicated emulation device I would say considering the price of around 120 at the absolute cheapest in around $200 on you know you know the more expensive ones I wouldn't necessarily recommend this for a dedicated emulation device I mean if all you're looking for his maximum you know Dreamcast in N64 sure I mean it is an option but if that's what you're looking for you could find the same thing in some recent devices that I've been talking about like the rg35 XX Plus or the H models which can go you know up to that very easily perfectly without any problems and at substantially almost literally half the price or more or less than that given which version of the VA you end up buying so as a dedicated emulation device I don't think it necessarily holds up as well as it used to considering how crazy that scene has become but as a de device dedicated for VA games Homebrew and PSP I truly do not see a better competitor other than maybe the 3DS but the 3DS is still sort of coming along in the early days of the really its home brewing scene so I am so excited to see what comes next for the vaita vaita will always have a special place in my heart and in my collection so what are your thoughts are you planning on buying a Vita did this video help you really you know figure out what you want the V for I love to hear comments
