Is the NEW 2022 Honda Civic a sedan worth the price?

[Music] that's what's up it's joe rady from ladies rides we are at a new undisclosed location for a very good reason because guess what we have our hands on it and you want to see it this is the all new 2022 honda civic this particular one is the turing trim but before we get into this new from the ground up 11th generation of their compact sedan let's talk about what's going on here honda they've been making amazing vehicles that really stand the test of time for so many years honda civic 1973 was the first year it came to our shores this was really one of those epic cars during the 70s that got people to change their minds about japanese branded vehicles not only the honda civic but of course a few years later the honda accord two powerhouses from this japanese brand now going into the 11th generation honda wants to keep the magic going they want to stay on throttle with their sales with winning awards no matter how big or how small and that's the news about the civic is that it's gotten a little bit larger still a compact sedan but that's going to be a good thing because it's really going to amaze you what they've done to the interior and also the exterior styling now a lot of people may not know this i've owned two different civics throughout the years i had a 92 lx base model but i also had my 2017 civic type r and what i want to do is i want to dive into this i just want to dive head first into this 2022 civic touring and find out first of all is it worth the price and what are those things that are new for 2022 that really help it earn maybe the credibility you're going to have to figure it out by the end of this video if it earns the credibility of being worth that price so let's go ahead let's dive into our metallic silver civic touring trim and get that question answered right off the bat like i said the proportions i know a lot of people online those keyboard jockeys were saying it looked like a honda accord you got to see it in person come on down here to my undisclosed location maybe i'll let you take a sneak peek but let me show you in depth starting off at the front of the business what's going to help with the overall value and that price point is you're going to get standard led headlights across all the trims from lx all the way up to the touring trim led daytime running lamps obviously all redesigned now one of the things that i like that they've done for the 2022 civic at the front of the business is not only have they cleaned up the styling but i do like the flat black i feel from a price point perspective this is going to wear a lot better over time it's not all shiny all over the place gives it more of a sporty look and that was something that honda was going for working your way down you do have led fog lamps to match those headlights nice to see that on the touring trim and the way that they took the body work i think is very very tasteful on the corners now as we come across that center grill area looking at price point i'm glad there's not a bunch of extra stuff stuck onto the front of the vehicle you're gonna have that metallic silver so whatever body color you have actually takes up this whole front portion you got your honda badge in the past this would be chrome trim this would be gloss black trim i like the body color matching paint job you have the flat black fully functional and you can see the connection that they're going with looking at the competition and trying to make it look cleaner but still keep that sporty edge and definitely this lower grill area checks off a lot of those boxes now when we get up onto the hood clean is the name of the game you're just going to have simple body lines that rise up go right towards the a-pillars the hood is lower and the nose they actually push the a-pillar back a little bit to give it that extra sporty stance to it now when we come around the bend and we're talking about price point you're gonna have different wheel options you go touring trim this is an 18-inch wheel so take that into consideration what you're getting on the turning trim lx is a steel wheel there's also a 17-inch wheel as well but you have 16 17 this beautiful 18-inch wheel machine aluminum that sharp gray metallic cover really i think works well with the turing trim and then if you're wondering well joe is this still front-wheel drive yes they are not ready they don't have an all-wheel drive civic yet but this front-wheel drive sticks with the heritage going all the way back to 1973 and of course that reliability that we're going to talk about in a little bit but coming down the side 18 inch wheels you're going to get color mesh on the mirror cap so think about that from a price point nice to have extra paint on the mirrors instead of just flat black or even gloss black led turn signals built into the mirrors we're going to get some shiny bright metal work only on the top now you might think that that's a negative but i think it helps balance out the side of the vehicle because you're going to get these low the lower belt line the body line down on the bottom portion the way they did the sill extension really shows a more mature look and i mean that in a very very good way from the side of the vehicle turing trim has a sunroof so take that into consideration and then working our way back i love the size of the quarter window this kind of shows that family connection with the accord in a very very good way nice line going into our rear end of the vehicle and just like we've been talking about what's that word it's been just cleaned up like what they did with the led brake lights you got your fog lower portion the civic badge looking great the honda badge has never looked better touring trim that is that top trim remember it all starts with lx and then as we work our way down to finish everything off nice and simple and the good news is simple really works well when we're trying to clean up the overall style just a little bit of flat black but definitely not as you know many edges hard edges as the 10th generation but let's go ahead let's pop the hood and see what's powering our touring trailer guys we got the hub popped i actually opened it to the service level to really get the hood out of the way you do have a prop rod i'm not zonking it because the competition doesn't have it let me know in the comments section if you think turing trim should have hydraulic hood struts but underneath that hood is gonna be that 1.5 liter inline four turbocharged engine no engine cover so if you don't like wires and hoses just look away don't look at the screen just listen to my voice but what are we looking at you're looking at a little bit more horsepower 180 horsepower 177 pound-feet of torque it is mated to a cbt that's been refined 0-60 not the quickest you're looking about 8 seconds 0-60 top speed 137 miles an hour it weighs 3077 pounds that turbo builds enough boost to be 16 and a half pounds of boost mpgs guess what we actually got a little bit extra plus one on city you're looking at 31 the city and 38 mpgs on the highway brake rotors are 11.1 inches in diameter up front and like i was saying when it comes to flexibility you do have engine choices if you're waiting for a manual transmission the weight will be over very very soon because we got a hatchback that's coming that will be offered with a 6-speed manual if you don't want the turbocharged engine you can also get a 2-liter but not the touring trim you're going to have to go with one of the lower trends but when we go ahead let's fire up the touring trim and hear what it sounds like all right guys we're inside this 2022 honda civic touring trim once again i know you've had many sleepless nights trying to figure out how much is the civic touring for 2022 guess what no price increase from the 10th generation for 2021. so what you're looking at is an msrp right around 29 900 let me point out some things to the door panel that i really like what they've done with the trim especially all over the door panel but especially around the switch gear they use this new texture it fights off fingerprints no fingerprints anymore and it looks good plus the armrest and everything else is very very complete going from the door panel to the dash you're going to get soft touch material everywhere and this beautiful wire mesh trim that hides the ac vents and for the first time on a honda civic we have a 12 speaker bose sound system when you go touring trim the other thing you get that's all new is that nine inch infotainment system on the turing trim wireless apple carplay wireless android auto navigation touch screen the backup cameras you have everything works really really well with it working your way down you're going to get dual climate control and all the switch gear has a great feel nice crisp engagement heated seats tons of connectivity including wireless charging more of that material where it does not look at this look mom no fingerprints and it looks really really good this is controlling that cvt transmission you got your drive mode selector switch three different modes soft touch material everywhere as we transition from the armrest to the seats same story wonderful soft touch material stitching four-way electric assist for the passenger i have eight-way electrical assist for the driver and then you're also gonna get that sunroof up top nicely done but why don't you come over here the business end i wanna show you behind the wheel of this 2022 civic chart so we're talking about this interior what's new for 2022 when you're comparing this to the competition think about it mother 3 has an 8.8 inch screen not even touchable you can touch it but doesn't do anything you're getting nine inches in this turning trim on all those other functions and then when it comes to the overall space i love the amount of room steering wheel honda does the best job i don't care what other compact sedan you're looking at best steering wheel in the class love the silver trim you got all that honda sensing technology and then guess what unlike some of the competitors you got a full 10 inch digital display first time on a civic tons of functionality i mean you're able to scroll through so much information and then watch this one of my favorite parts is you could customize let's say you don't like your gauges round you want bar gauges you could do it boom super clear love the functionality and just how easy it is to use go back to round and we're back to where it all began take this into consideration when you're looking at the competition you got your three different drive modes if you want more in depth about what's going on here with the zonks where to put all the snacks there's plenty of room for twinkies watch part one but let's get to the backseat because i'm ready to drive the civic touring all right guys backseat time and you're getting more room remember the proportions of this civic have changed to really maximize the exterior styling the way it drives which we're gonna get to that soon and the interior space i'm six feet tall i feel comfortable no matter where i sat in here and i've even laid down the trunk just for the heck of it and it felt pretty good here's your key fob if you're a backseat driver you could hold on to this guess what it's new for 2022. they updated it very nice the bad news is the zonk if you're sitting behind the driver you don't get a pocket so what that means is is that if you have your calzone you're gonna have to hold on to it between your legs and if you squeeze your legs you know what's gonna happen ouch but the great news is two usb so they got you can cover connectivity-wise still the same zonk no ac vents it would be nice to have some ac vents in this accord excuse me oh it's like an accord i almost said it almost said the a word shame on me in this civic touring would be nice to have the ac vents but i have my own pocket over here for my own calzone give me some extra pepperoni and then the armrest never felt better but let's get to the trunk because i'm ready to go on throttle in this civic touring all right guys one area where the honda civic for 2022 really earns its money is in the trunk space especially when you're comparing it to cars in the same class like the mazda 3 you're going to get over 14 cubic feet of space i love just how much room there is the seats fold down and you got a spare but let's get to it we've been waiting for this if you're ready i'm ready let's take this honda civic turing for a spin all right guys we're behind the wheel finally of the 2022 honda civic touring trim right away it feels like a different car from the 10th generation they really did a great job with all the materials obviously the adhesives that they're using is much improved so that's going to help keep the sound to a minimum that's from the outside entering the cabin getting to the infotainment system is a breeze very legible graphics colors fonts the digital display is really just a thing of beauty i love the way you could just go into your different modes everything so seamless easy to get to i'm gonna keep it back in sport mode though and the feel the feeling to the steering wheel is something that honda gets right no matter if you're driving a type r an hacker nsx or this civic touring visibility is great side mirrors good size let's go ahead and do a little bit of on throttle have it in sport mode gonna leave it in regular cvt automatic on throttle here we go so there's those simulated shifts and remember they refined all that for 2022 and the good news is is that you know you get up to speed 0-60 not the fastest but that's not what this car is about this car is about great mpgs great reliability and all the new tech for 2022 it really is wonderful seats are comfy like i said i would like a little bit of lower lumbar support but steering feel it's it's so important and that's what honda looks at the whole driving picture all the changes that they made to this 11th generation gets transferred right to the driver's seat and i can really appreciate that instrumentation is easy to read you know that you're in sport mode because the gauges have a nice red hue to them everywhere you touch the level of fit and finish is just so spot on the money and really just elevates the whole experience it's crazy to think you know if the 1973 civic could look into a crystal ball and see this civic for 2022 i i don't think it would believe that it's a civic because that's the level of everything has just been raised in this vehicle but really smooth driving down the road the work that they've done to the chassis and the suspension soaks up the bumps nicely but you're still gonna have some good handling characteristics which is important as well let me go ahead i'm gonna shift with the paddle so simulated gears i'm gonna slow down a little bit here nobody's behind us you do have a little bit of a gear indicator there let me go from a dead stop here so odd throttle here we go so it definitely feels a little bit more crisp on the acceleration but yet still nothing like i said that to write home about looking forward to the si looking forward to the new type r but let's see how the car handles in this right hand bend here on the brakes feeling good nice look at that nice and connected smooth over the bumps i like the way it tells you what the speed limit is so you can keep an eye on that infotainment has always been great um in the honda products i've always found that they're easy to use so smart that they kept the volume knob this time we don't have to fight for it back or anything like that but i'm telling you the the sound ending and just the overall quality of the ride is really well done all right guys we're out on the highway here i really wanted to kind of showcase how the vehicle drives on the highways and byways obviously this is where the car is gonna earn its key because of how people are gonna use this to commute to their jobs picking up the kids from school going out to dinner all that great stuff you could do in your honda civic especially this touring trim i mean this interior i keep looking over and i'm just like wow they did one heck of a job but another thing they did a great job on look how nice it drives down the highway here super smooth 18-inch wheels with those 40 series tires are going to give you a nice balance of style but also good drive and ride quality for sure but let me go ahead and slow down a little bit i want to pretend like as if we were passing somebody what that acceleration is going to be like so eye throttle here we go the great news is is they definitely you could feel the refinement that they talked about with the cvt i personally would think that the 10-speed automatic from the accord would be a thing of beauty in this thing but uh i'm looking forward to driving the manual uh especially in the si and the new type r coming for this 11th generation but hopefully this gave you a nice overall feel of what the civic touring brings to
