when it comes to CPUs few have made as much of an impression on me as the 5800 x3d heck I even dedicated two entire videos to the thing something I haven't done before or since am 3 vcash technology really was a game changer in terms of pure gaming performance and efficiency which is why when I got my hands on a little something called AMD ryzen 7 7800 x2d I was pretty hyped to say the least but with the 5800 x2d having left such enormous boots to full can the 7800 x3d possibly live up to the hype well that's what we're here to find out right after we find out who the sponsor of the segment is if you haven't already Dawn your war paint and brushed up on your na'vi for Avatar front SE of Pandora then AMD has your back as of right now you can grab yourself a copy of the impressive blue alien simulator for free when you buy or upgrade to amd's otherw worldly new graphics cards CPUs or full ryzen and Radeon systems these include select processors and graphics cards from amd's Powerhouse ryzen 7,000 series including likes of the 7800 x3d and the Radeon RX 7800 XC which I'll be reviewing on the channel very soon so stay tuned for that to get your code all you need to do is buy one of the parts at a participating retailer then pop on over to AMD rewards to get your game easy but be sure to do it fast since the promotion ends on the 30th of January or until codes run out whichever comes first so if you're looking for your next big AMD upgrade and want to jump into one of the most beautiful games I have ever played then what are you waiting for all the details for the AMD Avatar Frontiers or Pandora promotion can be found in the description down below thanks to AMD for sponsoring this part of the video and let's get back to it now even before we could get our hands on the 7800 xdd it was already tinged by some minor controversy mostly sent around the fact that it didn't launch alongside its B your brothers the 7950 and 7900 xdd so essentially if you wanted the best gaming performance AMD had on offer and you didn't want to wait you'd have to pick up a more expensive chip that you couldn't even fully utilize in a gaming system but luckily the 7800 x2d landed only about a month later and man didn't look like it was worth the wait unlike its bigger Brothers the 7800 x2d ships with a more reasonable for gaming anyway eight cores and 16 threats just like the 5800 x2d the 7800 XD also ships with lower clock speeds than the rest of the chips in its lineup with a base and boost clock speed of 4.2 and 5 GHz respectively but as we reminded with the 5800 x2d raw clock speed hasn't been King in a while and the 7800 x2d is 96 MB of all3 cache 64 more Megabytes than the 78700 X should more than make up for the hampered clock speed in the majority of games the 7800 x2d is configured with a default CDP of 120 watts more than the 7700 X's 105 watt but because of its 3db cach the 7800 x2d actually has a lower Max operating temperature of 89° c and just like the rest of the zen4 chips the 7800 x2d features native support for ddr5 up to 5200 MHz the last spec we need to dive into is arguably the most important and that's price as of right now the 7800 x2d can be had for about $400 or $9 ,000 round here in South Africa 50 bucks less than it was at launch that positions it at around $50 more than the 7700x and 5800 x3d 100 less than the 7900 x3d and puts it at about the same price as Intel's 14700 K and 100 less than the 13600 K all of which means that the 7800 XD seems shockingly competitive right now but being priced relatively well means nothing if it doesn't have the performance to back it up so let's put this bad boy to the test shall we the test bench I used for my zen4 bench Ben marking includes MSI Pro x670 P 32 gigs of gails Evo 5 running at 6,000 MHz with cl34 timings msze RX 6900 XT gaming Trio plus cooler Masters ml240r crucial P5 plus as the main drive and antech signature 1,000 wat power supply for the Intel rig I just swapped out the motherboard and for the Zen 3 Parts I swapped to msi's x570 gaming Pro carbon and switched to 32 gigs of ddr4 running at 3600 MHz with cl 16 timings all right let's get to to it as always we kick things off with productivity benchmarks an area where the x2d chips usually falter a bit due to their lower clock speeds in cinebench R23 the 7800 x2d does beat out its predecessor by a pretty significant margin in both the multi and single core tests but when compared to its more production focused brothers and the 13600 K it struggles to keep up this is the story we see playing out again in the blender Benchmark fuget bench's Premier Pro Benchmark and N7 Zip's Bolton Benchmark clearly the 7800 x2d is still a very capable chip for those of us who use our systems for both work and play but because most Pro applications care more about thread counts and high clock speeds the x2's extra cash Advantage doesn't count for much here but that's fine the x2d chips are built for gaming and if the 5800 xd's dominance in the space was anything to go by this is where the 7800 x2d should really shine and shine it maybe sort of does in unen super position well the 7800 x2d does come out on top overall it does so by a pretty slim margin just barely outpacing the two ryzen 9 parts and in 3D March Time spy thinks take a turn for the 7800 X2 with it losing handly to its beefier siblings and Intel's offering but to be fair time spy CPU Benchmark has always favored High Core counts and high frequencies moving on to actual games things didn't seem all that promising for amd's newer Starling at least at first in games like cyber Punk Assassin's Creed Valhalla and f122 the 7800 x2d just barely loses or grabs the top spot we're talking margin of error territory here and in games like Spider-Man remastered shadow of the Tomb Raider and Red Dead Redemption 2 while the 7800 XD does take a more convincing dub it was only by 1.5 to 2.3% over its closest rals now while every possible effort was made to eliminate a GPU bottleneck in some of these benchmarks it does seem like it may have been at play to some degree possibly leading to the 7,800 X underperforming to some extent in one or two of these titles but thankfully that's by no means the end of the Story the rest of the Benchmark stack shows the 7800 x2d hitting its stride Landing comfortably at the top spot of the charts the chip managed a modest but notable win in Borderlands 3 and God of War coming out ahead by 3.8 and 6.4% respectively while in Hitman 3 and Horizon zero Dawn it widened that Gap to 7.2% now that's more like it as for the rest of the benchmarks well here's where things get a heck of a lot more interesting in Far Cry 6 and Starfield the chip pulled off a much more impressive lead beating the closest compe ition by 12 and 14.8% respectively oh wait did I say impressive now the 7800 x2d is 21.4% and 16.9% win in the rift breaker and The Witcher 3 now that's impressive oh and for anyone wondering why there are no 1440p charts that's because I spent way too much time benchmarking at higher resolutions and there just wasn't anything to show with my current test system the higher the resolution got the lower the difference between the chips got until it basically disappeared which wouldn't be all that interesting to see two days of my life I'll never get back but it is what it is anyway with all the specs tallied up the 7800 x2d was a whopping 57% faster than 3800 XD 20% faster than 13600 K 11.4% faster than the 5800 x3d 10% faster than the 7900 and a more reasonable 6.9 nice faster than the 7900x that's a pretty decisive overall win no matter how you slice it a win that gets all the more amazing when we take a look under the hood while pushing out the most frames out of all the chips tested the 7800 x2d also managed to be the most efficient by far during testing I never saw the chip draw more than 88 Watts making insol 13600 K and the 7900x look kind of ridiculous by comparison with their 180 Watts plus and if not for the 3800 XT and 7900 nonex it would have been the thermal champ too only hitting a Max of 87.4 DEC that's a fraction of the power and temperature for in some cases a lot more performance than any of the other chips in the stack crazy at this point I don't think there's any doubt that the 7800 xgd is amd's best gaming CPU right now Barn not and from the reviews I've watched it seems Intel has no counter to it right now even in their latest 14th gen lineup so best gaming CPU you can buy right now but should you buy it well yes obviously of course if you plan to use your system for work more than for gaming then you're better off with a 7900 or 7950 X and if you already have a great aim for system than just dropping in a 5800 x2d makes a whole lot more sense than upgrading to a brand new platform at least on Souls 5 but if you're already running an am5 system or plan to buy or build a new gaming rig then it just doesn't get better than the 7800 x2d right now along with being the fastest overall gaming chip you can buy right now and one of the most efficient at that it also presents a pretty fantastic value because ddr5 pricing is actually starting to make sense now and with the 7800 x2d being low power enough to run perfectly on pretty much any any am5 board even the cheap ones the price of entry into am's latest platform has never been cheaper all of that combined with a reasonable price for the chip itself no need for insane cooling solutions and a real future upgrade path thanks to amd's promised support for am5 all of that makes the 7800 x2d a very easy recommendation and now I recommend you to go watch some of my other videos because this one is done if you want to grab yourself a free copy of Avatar frontiers of Pandora courtesy of AMD remember to go to the link down below for all of the details and yeah like the video if you liked it get subscribed if you want to and I'll see you all in the next one cheers
