[Music] hey guys what's up it's joe rady from ladies rise we're at jaguar land rover st petersburg and we have a very very special review that i am dying to start with you this is a 2017 dodge viper gtc but before we get into this v10 powered last of the dodge vipers let's talk about what's going on here the dodge viper this v10 american sports car built to compete against the mighty corvette zr1 in those early 1990s changed from that original stage in 1992 when it first hit the streets and the racetracks and then wound up being just such a drop dead gorgeous performance car and in this last generation the fifth generation because it's five generations of the viper this last generation they kind of brought more the amenities side of things but eventually they wound up killing it off again now with this gtc there's that direct connection to 1996 1996 was the first year of the dodge viper gts which was the coupe the first couple years of the viper i mean it was straight up connection with that 427 cobra no roll up windows no outside door handles and for safety features nothing that you would come to expect today for sure but one thing is for certain when it comes to race track performance when it came to going up against the zr zr1 corvettes and the rest of the sports cars from around the world the dodge viper did the business so let's go ahead let's dive in and find out is this the ultimate american sports car and should dodge bring back the viper and should they bring it this way let's go ahead and find out right off the bat the silver shows the lines perfectly on this gtc viper that we have you can see in 2017 what we're working with with the headlight design still looks fresh still stands out you got your led daytime running lamps you got that projector beam style headlight all blacked out on the interior of the headlight you drop down you're gonna of course have functional side air curtains and everything to channel that airflow to get to all the cooling bits now we come across that very low slung hood into the front fascia you could see the viper design the snake design with the badging with the way that they worked all of this center grill area of course fully functional there's nothing fake on this viper and that's what i love about it even more the way they took the front fascia turned it into a splitter stop the air from going underneath and give us that down force now remember dodge vipers very successful on the racetracks they've won their class at le mans the 24 hours le mans they even won the dodge viper gtsr won its class overall and the overall race of the rolex 24 at daytona in the year y2k that's the kind of performance you could get from these vipers but i just love the style the width and it looks like it's ready to just strike you right in the neck now when we get up onto that clamshell reverse opening hood you can see the center air duct that we have that's going to bring nice cool air into that v10 engine we have our functional heat extractors and of course if we got v10 power you have a bulge everybody wants a bulge and you're getting a ginormous one but the way that form follows function is so true on this viper all of the curves to bring all of these air ducts and heat extractors just gives one sexy hood that i just want to rub my hands all over but as we come around the bend let's talk about wheel and tire setup so just seeing this car sitting here it's stunning you just want to stare at it for hours but we don't have hours we got to keep on rolling here 18-inch wheel up front so 18 inches in diameter i like the nice aluminum finish you got those bright red calipers with the viper logo on it and then look at the massive rotors 14-inch rotors two-piece slotted and fully ventilated this thing is all about performance up front you're looking at 295 on the with 30 series sidewall so think about that there's some sports cars where they have 295 width-wise on the rear tires but wait until we get to the rear we're not there yet but perfect the silver on silver with this viper you have of course the flat black viper gt badging tasteful and then you can clearly see that clear line here where the hood is going to open reverse to really showcase that v10 now i'm going to have lori kind of swing around and show how that fender flares out you have all that functional venting coming from that fender fender and it also flows into the design of the door so as you go from the fender look at how it flows the body line flows nicely into the door disappears you got your flush door handles up top nice curve and then one of the things that goes back to 1992 functional side exhausts remember they disappeared for a while they ran the exhaust out the back it's great to have them finally come back and they finished off that last generation with the side exhaust get that nice v10 sound right underneath your rear end and that's what it's all about speaking of rear end we get to the rear tires you can see the srt branding on these logo on the wheels the logo there it's a 19 inch wheel this wheel so up front you're talking about 11 and a half inches wide this is 13 inches wide of a wheel and these tires 355s they literally are steamrollers if you look at a zr1 corvette 2019 zr1 corvette that's a 335 rear this is a 355 still getting a super size caliper and a super-sized rotor two-piece beautiful with the stop tech brakes on this example i love the way they have the fuel filler cap with the viper logo flat black pops nicely with the silver even the way look at how off of the roof into that gloss black section right behind the glass there it brings and channels all the air and everything to the rear now when we get to the rear no big spoilers on this particular one you can go viper acr and everything else and get these big massive wings everything has a nice flow off of that flared fender into this beautiful just turns into a spoiler on the rear lift gate of the hatch portion and then of course you're gonna get that iconic on the coops that iconic double bubble rise there so that you could get your helmet on and you do your track day i like the way the silver comes into the glass and then as we drop down you got your third brake light with the viper logo there looking good a little bit of gloss black on the back nothing too crazy it would have been nice that was carbon fiber for sure but i love what they did with the tail lights and then as you work your way down fully functional rear diffuser but you could just see like we started up front the width of the tail end of the business but why don't we go ahead let's pop the hood and see that v10 power guys doing something a little different a little different angle for getting under the hood but i wanted to show you you actually don't pop the hood on this viper from the inside you do it from the outside and you're just going to reach up into the side fender vent pull the handle and then because the whole hood is carbon fiber look look how light this is one finger rises up you got that massive x cross brace there and look at that v10 power so what are we looking at you're looking at a 8.4 liter started off as an 8 liter in the first gen finished off as an 8.4 liter v10 that's 512 cubic inches 645 horsepower 600 pound-feet of torque mated only to a six-speed manual if you know how to dance on your twinkle toes and handle the v10 torque zero to 60 in this thing 3.4 seconds quarter mile is going to blaze by at 11 and a half seconds at 130 miles an hour top speed 190 miles an hour the viper weighs 3 378 pounds mpgs you're probably not going to want to know but i'll tell you anyways 12 in the city 19 on the highway but that's what makes this car so unique is that engine and to think that they moved it and was able to bump that power that beautiful intake plenum i like the way they brought some red to the the plastic covers there and the x-brace i mean even like you could see the front frame section just extending off of where the windshield is coming out stiffen up that whole front end the two throttle bodies why don't we go ahead let's get to the interior because this thing is gonna blow your mind all right guys special moment for me i'm so glad to share with you this is my first time sitting in a final generation that fifth generation of the viper we have one other viper review on radies rides and that one wasn't really what this viper is all about now this being the final generation a gtc it's got the laguna interior package it's got a lot of nice extra touches the crazy news about the viper is because they don't make them anymore the values have actually stayed very strong or actually going up the asking price here for this one is 129 000 let's see what you get for the money because this one has barely 1600 miles on it barely broken in let's get to the door panel look at that wonderful style you have the laguna interior package that tan leather white contrast stitching i love the diamond pleated stitch work going on there and this is where the fifth generation definitely separates it from all the previous generations the level of fit and finish the detail all of the nice touches you didn't find this on a 1992 viper i promise you you got the optional harman kardon sound system i like the silver and then you do have a small pocket there good for about two twinkies that's about it the good news is is that you got felt lining so you don't have to worry about scratching your twinkie because no guy wants his twinkie scratch on a door panel now when we get to the dash the leather continues i love the design of the ac vents there's a little bit of a plaque here and you'll notice a person's name craig waters this is a one-owner car craig custom designed the gtc craig custom designed this viper and guess what just like 1992 the early years hand built right in detroit michigan you have the leather nice soft touch on the glove box and then look at the stitch work going into the oh crap handle for your passenger viper name two more ac vents and look at how they took that infotainment system and dropped it in perfectly i love the way it's nicely embedded into the actual dash area now this is a 2017 so don't beat it up too much but this is an 8.4 inch uconnect system navigation which is nice touch screen you can get in your climate controls very very easily early day vipers would only dream of having technology like this you have your radio controls what i always love about many of the dodge products you can actually shut the screen off think about it when you go to a track day we don't need to look at a screen keep it off little bit of gloss black nothing crazy bright red start stop button and then this is where the magic happens just like you make the magic happen in that special room in your house this is where you make the magic happen in the dodge viper six speed manual it feels like it came right from a viper gts r race car and i'm not exaggerating one bit crisp engagement nice short throws magical absolutely magical you'll see a little bit of gloss black here you hit that you got a 12 volt and i recommend getting yourself a radar detector because you're maybe going to get yourself into trouble in this car some silver looks great the leather stitch work everywhere you got a good old-fashioned e-brake with nice soft leather on the shift boot on the handle two cupholders and then look what we have we have that dodge viper bright red key fob unlock all that power some simple buttons on the back you got an atomic fireball tray because this thing is atomic fireball hot this viper and then you're going to have your 12-volt usb aux jack look at look at the design work there with the gts logo there and then to open this up we lift it up and oh large enough for a box of twinkies and it looks like jacob dewitt one of our patreon club members left his twinkies in here so thank you jacob for doing that and look how it just drops right in easy peasy and then look at these seats one piece back they look like they're out of a race car but with leather the bolstering look at all the design work they are electric assist for the passenger and the driver no heated seats no ventilated seats we don't need this in a viper because you're sitting on some exhaust alcantara on the headliner really nice with the leather going into the eight pillar i'm six feet tall with that double bubble i got plenty of room over here i want you to come on over though to the business end i want to show you behind the wheel of this viper all right guys we're in the business end of this viper gtc such an amazing feel you'll notice the massive silver aluminum plate here with the viper logo we got the side exhaust right underneath this so you have to be careful not to touch because of that exhaust opening and then look at the pedals aluminum dead pedal clutch brake and throttle it looks like a flat box right out of a race car it really truly does so that's your little dead pedal right over there but if you notice perfect for a heel toe downshifting baby and that's what this thing is all about is the driving you do have two electric assist buttons here this is for the bottom portion and then this is for the back portion so you have two different switches there and then the steering wheel nice thickness beautiful stitch work flat bottom and then that dash looking good still to this day you got a nice large digital area analog speedometer analog uh fuel gauge and everything else looking great you can tilt the steering wheel which is great no paddles or anything like that but why don't we go ahead let's get to the cargo area and then we're taking this for an on throttle spin all right guys what's crazy about this dodge viper is that even with an 8.4 liter v10 this vehicle actually has some usable space in the back i'm going to go ahead pop the rear hatch one thing i want to show you just like the hood full carbon fiber remember these vipers are hand assembled each and every one of them was hand assembled love the carbon fiber and then look at all that usable space now if you notice a massive hump where that tan leather is in the center that's because there's a strut tower brace that comes across there to stiffen up the rear of the vehicle plus remember we have that venting that's going to channel air behind the windows on both the driver and the passenger side but you have plenty of room to make this the ultimate of all grocery getters but we have the key it's bright red if you're ready i'm ready let's take this dodge viper for a little on throttle spin all right guys we're in this 2017 dodge viper gtc you can hear the sound so well because guess what you have the exhaust right there underneath the rear end coming out on the side visibility out the front it's a little tight but it's such a unique experience i wouldn't trade this for the world the thickness of the steering wheel is spot on the money i'm glad that it's a flat bottom wheel because there's not much room otherwise if it was a larger steering wheel but this thing is so direct so connected there we go the way that it develops torque so low in the rev range is ridiculous revs up to about 6 500 rpm that's where your red line is seeing the peak fender seeing that big massive bulge just let you know you're in something special and like i said this 2017 last generation the fit and finish in here is something that only those early vipers could ever dream about showcasing and it is a damn shame they killed this car off i want one and i want one bad i mean this manual transmission is probably one of the best that i've ever driven period that's how good this thing is the sound the way it makes you feel all that history visibility out the back is actually really good side mirrors are great you see the sexy flared fenders hiding or at least trying to hide those 355 steamrollers 13-inch wheels unbelievable all right guys you ready for some odd throttle rolling on gently here we go [Applause] absolutely exhilarating it just pushes you back into the seat you just feel like you're in something so special that's what i love about this thing is the feeling i know a lot of vehicles have moved on when it comes to horsepower more horsepower and stuff but naturally aspirated v10 what a treat i'm just so glad to be able to share with you everywhere you touch you're getting that great tan leather getting to the infotainment system is easy peasy i mean it's a snap this car is it's amazing it really is the old toad downshifting piece of cake in this thing all right guys first gear here we go eye throttles oh my god heel toe down shift perfect look at this wow look how directed look at this you can feel the perfect balance in this thing and it's crazy because you would think with that v10 up front it would be just all sorts of wonkiness it's it's the wide tires out there you could really feel them clawing at the asphalt helping you get that traction but such a joy to drive the hell with mid engine this thing is badass look at this look how nice and connected it is unbelievable the brakes you can stop on a dime and give everybody change in the whole snake world that's how good this thing is clutch modulation is a piece of cake you would think it would be super heavy and and sort of bite you the wrong way but this snake bites you all the right way you got to stay focused you got to stay focused on what you're doing here because this car will bite you if you're not paying attention god my heart is pounding in my chest it's the best feeling in the world it really is and if you don't get excited about this car you i may have to revoke your your uh your car enthusiast card to be honest with you we maybe have to take that away from you look at this pulling away the clutch actually is just so nice so nice slow down here build some space roll on throttle high here we go oh my god this thing i love it absolutely love this car wow it's an amazing piece of machine but it's more than a machine this thing is living and it just makes you live a little bit more being behind the wheel i don't want to give this car back i really don't this is going to be a rabies rides review where we keep it have the cops come after us or something because i love it absolutely am in love ever since i was a teenager in high school when they came out the first vipers wanting to drive one wanting to experience it and being able to do it in this final generation and such a beautiful example such a great sound i mean god done you got to be careful on this thing you got to be careful but the brakes were great absolutely phenomenal i seriously don't want to give this car back i seriously don't want to give this car back so much history so much just overall sensation and like i said there's cars that are faster than this now especially nowadays with all the technology and the corvette going to mid engine and everything but this is what i this is what i talk about all the time just something so unique something so i special here we go look at this thing it's so balanced and it's so light on its feet i love her i love her we got to get back to jaguar land rover st petersburg this has been a very very special experience so glad to
