we just won the imsa Michelin Pilot challenge race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway I threw some cameras in the car during our test sessions there and I wanted to see how close the iRacing GT4 is to the real-life car let's take a look [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign to do this test I tried to match the parameters as best I possibly could that includes same track temp same air temp equal fuel level and I tried to drive on equal Tire life so I drove a few laps in the center to wear the tires out and I couldn't believe how close it was if you stick around to the end of the video I'll actually tell you the gap between the two laps IRL versus iRacing the reason I use iRacing is because I still feel like it is the most realistic simulation platform on the market today and I can come to that conclusion based on my real life experience driving the actual car in real life and I just feel like there's a lot of similarities but there also are a few differences so let's go over where it's similar and where there's a little bit of a difference I feel like the GT4 on iRacing is so similar in probably the most important area that's breaking when when I talk about braking I don't just mean Peak pressure I just mean the timing of everything the way you have to hit the brakes so we'll start with actual um brake pressure break timing the release how long you spend on maximum force on your Peak pressure it's all very similar to the way the GT4 Mercedes AMG GT4 drives in real life so using this as a training tool is great for me because I get that timing down when I go to a track I mean there's no secret why I'm on Pace from lap one the moment I hit the track we're already on the the pace that you know is required to to run at the front of the pack so not just break timing the holding pressure the release the rate of release I'm talking about even weight distribution it's so important in GT4 to have the steering wheel really pointing in you know pointing straight you need the weight distribution even across both front tires for it to stop well and I find that interesting because I mean the GT4 doesn't have a lot of downforce and it does take that into account in eye racing if you have any sort of weight transfer where you're uneven in terms of the load on the front tires it doesn't stop as well as if you initially have your brake pressure on with even weight distribution on the front tires so that's a really really nice uh point and attention to detail and something that I find really helps me in real life focuses it forces me to focus on keeping my weight distribution even to get maximum braking efficiency [Music] very think it can be improved is you may see between the two videos you probably saw that I was hustling the car a lot more in real life versus on the Sim although it is a little bit more uh loose and you can you can play with the car on the Sim it's not the most efficient way to drive in iRacing at the moment and that's not a bad thing but I would love to see it get a little bit closer to the real car where you can hustle it a little more and not overheat the tires to the point where you start losing performance so you saw in in the GT4 in real life we're not throwing it around like crazy because that does also overheat the tires and during a stint you'll lose performance near the mid to end phase of your your tire stint but um I do think that being able to hustle the car a little bit more on iRacing would enhance my experience and make it a little bit closer to the real car but I mean lap time doesn't lie and it was insanely close there was only a difference of 600th of a second between the IRL lap and the iRacing lab with the real app being slightly quicker than iRacing but obviously I can't get the parameters exactly but it just goes to show you that it is so close and it's an amazing training tool for me to use before my races that has to be one of the closest experiences you'll get to the real car Indianapolis Motor Speedway AMG GT4 they drive so much like the real thing if you want to feel like a racing driver fire up that combo and give it a try lap time was close the driving experience was close and I really used it as a training tool before we went to the race and it was an instrumental factor in us doing so well myself and Bryce Ward my teammate we use the Sim for several hours beforehand to train and we hit the Track Running if you guys enjoyed the comparison video let me know down in the comments and if you have nothing to say you just have no ideas right kiss the bricks in honor of our win at the Brickyard just just write kiss the bricks I'll know that you made it to this point in the video if you've liked the video make sure you don't forget to like it and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already I will see you guys in the next video [Music]
