it always seems wild that like the shelf life of phones is a year before the next version comes out and it's already been 5 months with the pixel 8 Pro and it has been an absolutely incredible phone for the most part but now it's halfway through its life cycle and we've seen a bunch of stuff improve from it there's been software improvements there's been AI improvements there's been camera improvements and everything in between but typical Google fashion starting to hear more and more about the pixel9 and the pixel9 pro so as weird as it might be to say now about halfway through the lifespan of the pixel8 pro did you buy [Music] one 1 [Applause] [Music] generally at this point with the phone between like four and like 7 months is when you start to like settle in you know you've gotten your software updates you've had some bugs that have been fixed and for the most part you know like what to expect from a phone and I think really almost more than any other pixel this phone was about software and I think Google's gotten that software experience better better and better every year the software for the most part has been a really good experience my pixel 7 Pro experience was a mix bag so I came into the 8 Pro not knowing what to expect coming to my first couple weeks with the 8 Pro I had some crashes had some slowdowns wasn't as smooth as I expected three software patches later things are running absolutely buttery smooth overall and I think a lot of that reason is the processor inside of the phone the tensor G3 uh Google got like a lot of heat and I think rightfully so for the tensor G1 and especially the G2 thought the G2 did not compete with the latest Flagship processors from appil and Qualcomm was even close it had overheating issues it was throttling it was just generally not the best processor it appears that Google learned I have had no issues at all with the G3 in fact I feel like there's still a ton of Headroom for software yet to come uh with the tenser G3 but still software continued to be a selling point for the pixelite when you get a phone that is an iteration of an iteration like the pixel a pro is you start to get some really great sort of hardware and software tweaks that matter day in and day out and I think overall the look is very similar to last year's phone aesthetically how the phone sort of looks in your hand and feels but when you look up front is where you're going to see the biggest difference the display on the a pro I think can now be considered among the top five in the smart phone market and that is absolutely huge I don't think there's a huge place for them to go from the 8 Pro to the 9 Pro and that just a compliment to how good the screen is on the 8 Pro I love the fact that it's flat the brightness is been absolutely incredible the screen quality is beautiful the colors are bright they're poppular they need to be the black levels obviously with OLED are completely black I have been more impressed the pixel a pro screen than any other pixel screen before I guess that would make sense because it's the newest but it used to be an area I had to almost make excuses with for the pixel the phone's incredible but yeah that screen and much like the tensor G3 Google listened with this iteration and this screen has been absolutely incredible so I think now also like halfway through a phone life cycle you start to use it had a few drops it's been in a pocket maybe you got some change or some keys start to see the durability of the phone for the most part the phone is held up very well but one area that's been a problem with the 8 Pro was the same issue with the 7 Pro is the visor I like the design it's distinctive you know what it is you can look at it immediately and be like that's a pixel but also kind of now becoming a Hallmark of the pixel is the scratches on the visor now a lot of cases can fix that cover it but also a lot of cases keep the visor out and open I think you just have to know that there are scratches here on the phone I would have liked to see Google use different materials from the seven to the eight that is one area I think they can improve on from the 8 to the 9 uh but still scratches Galore on that shiny metal but on the back it's been really good I don't have any scratches Nicks or cracks even on the display either I think for the most part the phone is held up extremely well now obviously that's totally subjective one drop at the right angle on the right material and you're going to totally shatter the thing but at least for my experience uh it's been pretty good so I want to take a quick pixel break my wife and I have actually been rewatching parks and wreck when my favorite scenes is when Ron tries to buy something online and he gets popups that say his name on it what's your question my question is what the hell and we've all sort of been in that situation where you're giving more information out there than you know you are giving and the best way to stop doing that and keep information safe and secure is with the VPN in particular this video sponsor proton VPN now there's a ton of reasons why you would want to use a VPN to protect your privacy maintain anonymity while online prevent your ISP from tracking you stay safe on public Wi-Fi probably my favorite one is to stream geob blocked content absolutely anywhere I don't know if you're a sports fan but often times in local areas that Sports content is blocked out with the VPN you don't have to worry about that anymore you want to watch Disney plus and from Australia you can do that too protonvpn gives you the best way to make all of that possible so protonvpn is going to send your traffic through an encrypted VPN tunnel keeping your brain browsing data safe and again even over public or untrust internet connections they are a Swiss VPN provider uh so they're not going to log any user activity or share data with any third parties at all their Anonymous VPN service keeps your browsing history private and enables an internet without surveillance if you want to check out protonvpn and I really think you should give it a shot uh go to protonvpn docomo ringer link will be down below it's got a special offer of one month free in the 12mon plan and 3 months free in the 24mon plan just it's a really incredible deal give it a shot again you're getting a month free there's no risk try a VPN and I guarantee you you won't regret it I think if there's any specs that matter with the pixel it's the camera so we've got a 50 megapixel main camera a 48 megap Ultra wide also a 48 megapix five time zoom and the camera I think is still the biggest selling point of the pixel line this year though Google took a different route and really focused on on software working with the camera and the software provides features that actually are really useful in day-to-day life I mean things like face umbler Magic Eraser uh best take have been absolutely incredible now I know Magic Eraser you can use some version on other os's but that's something that I've used all the time best take I got three kids trying to get pictures all of them looking at me and smiling has been so incredibly useful that when I take family pictures the pixels got that would be the phone I take just because my middle kid is always looking on to the side making some weird smile um that's been a really maybe a niche case and be useful for you but at least in my daily use the AI has really improved my use cases with the phone and that's gotten better software update over software update think you start getting into portrait mode is where you start to see the AI and the camera really Flex you look at this shot with my hand out this has been absolute Kryptonite for portrait mode you can see it's cutting out my fingers almost perfectly every picture you take with a pixel will be some version of good to Great every picture low light it's incredible almost no light it's incredible extremely bright light it's going to be really good there is no picture you can take with the pixela pro that will not be good and that is the best compliment I can give for a phone it may not be the best photo of any smartphone at that exact moment but I guarantee you that photo will look great and usable for anything that you want it to be used for on the video side it's definitely seemed to been a lower priority for Google and the pixel line in the past few years but that's definitely started to change past two iterations for the most part video looks pretty good and it's very very usable for social media and capturing memories I use this phone even for bam for some shoots videoos no longer a knock on the pixel wine and videos also where Google's trying to bring software to make it as good as possible so back when the phone was released we heard about a feature called video boost uh which will use Google's data centers to process your videos and make the video look as good as possible and I think that sounds really cool on paper except takes hours to get the video back depending on how long it is and honestly it didn't look like it did that much here's a sample before here's a sample after I think it actually does something in low light situations so if that's how you're using it then it's going to be helpful but aside from that it's not not really move the needle too much and probably isn't worth the several hour wait now if it was on device that'd be incredibly cool and probably something we'll see eventually happen but right now it was a feature that sounded cooler than it actually was it seems like a crazy thing to say but like having all the world's information in your pocket has become like super ordinary this isn't like just like a pixel thing it's pretty much every traditional slab smartphone on the market look at the iPhone Samsung Galaxy and obviously the pixel 2 the last few Generations at first glance were basically same phone as before with some updated specs so I'm looking for what is next to the pixel L it's hard to get kind of excited about a a boring or a normal upgrade to the pixel9 or pixel9 Pro we've seen some leaks typical again Google fashion what the phone will look like from the design perspective it looks really nice it's an evolution of the pixel design language and I think this is what I think we're going to see and if it is I'm not going to be disappointed in the slightest with those squared off corner a large camera bump seems that pixel will be joining in with the likes of Apple and Samsung with another boxy phone it actually stands out much less the design that we have right now but I keep coming back to as I don't seem to care as much about traditional pixel line so I keep thinking about what Google's doing with the pixel fold we're coming up on a year since pixel fold was released and a lot of ways delivered and with the promise of what the next stage of smartphone was supposed to be it gave great pixel software experience but with a larger canvas to to paint on it's been almost a year since that pixel fold came out I know foldables aren't for everyone they're more fragile we take out more space and the software still is and full featured I think we' all hoped for but when thinking about the future of the pixel Line This is where my mind goes like right away and so it gets me excited about what Google can do with their Hardware I know that for the vast majority of users regular non-folding pixel is going to be the phone to buy and I think if you're looking to get get a really good slab phone with an incredible camera a beautiful screen Google software updates for years a pixela pro is still a very safe phone to buy right now but if you don't want a safe option if you want something a little bit different maybe a little flexible that gives you the best of what Google can do I'm more excited about the pixel full too and if you're in the market for a phone right now and foldables are maybe in your wheelhouse I would 100% wait to see what the pixel fold to two is going to be are we going to get a cameras that's on par with the flagship let's see what the processor is going to be software Improvement the original fold needed that's what gets me excited and I know fold world again not for everybody but for me if I'm waiting to get a phone I'm waiting to see what the pixel full 2 is going to be all about
