rev up your engines all right today i'm going to talk about hyundai sonata this is a 2017 not a big fan of them i tell people they're not going to last three four hundred thousand miles like a toyota or honda but in this case they didn't have to pay for the car it was one at a casino they were giving this good-looking car free now they did have to pay a gift tax of twelve hundred dollars i'd say this car is definitely worth twelve hundred dollars now as you check under the hood this is the better version this model with gdi but it has no turbo and it's a good size too as you can see here the 2.4 liter engine and if you're confused that's what the 2.4 means right here now he gets 36 37 miles a gallon at 75 miles an hour you can't argue that like i said these can be very good cars for a certain amount of mileage and this one we'll go inside how many miles i have on it gotta check everything first it's got 74 000 miles on it you put all his own mileage on it and he hasn't had any problems with it really like i say they're decent cars they're not great cars and really considering that he only had to pay the gift tax of a thousand something dollars hey that's a pretty good deal that's my body good old boys in alabama now the owner is originally from england and the english are very frugal people my grandfather was he was a mailman he changes the oil every three thousand miles not five or seven every three doesn't burn a drop of oil it still runs like a clock now you never know maybe this is one of the young guys that'll go 300 000 miles stay tuned the next 10 20 years when he makes it that far now if you notice it's dirty here well he's an englishman and he's smart he knows all these electronics if they get wet they're gonna have problems so it's dirty who cares do you see this no you see that and that's really clean and in that respect there's a company called torque detail that he's gonna try out for waxing it all up i mean it's pretty shiny now but i've never tried this torque detail i'll see what he says after he tries it now as you can tell it's got decent style they actually stole the headlights from the new ford mustang everybody's stealing them utilitarian this is the base model reasonable amount of space there's nothing wrong with that lots of room for people what jack the trunk nice deep trunk it just keeps going it's a handy utilitarian car so let's take it for spin now realize this little thing does have 185 horsepower it's no slouch and this does have a six-speed automatic transmission so let's take it for a spin relatively quiet vehicle first thing i notice is it actually handles quite well typical of any asian style vehicle but let's take it on a nice little straight road and see what this thing can do we'll come to a stop and here we go wolf floor had a little wheel spin there not bad very smooth shifts in the automatic transmission i have to say i'm rather pleasantly surprised on that one it's got decent handling it doesn't ride that bad not a fantastic ride but i've ridden in much worse cars especially ones that people only paid 1300 bucks for remember that gift tax the next time somebody gives you something and if you want to get sporty you can put it in standard mode there we go there's first gear there shows you you're in first gear and you go a little faster shift it automatically into second gear go back down to first if you want a little more acceleration kind of fun to play around with and truthfully i have to say i haven't seen any of these automatic transmissions break down and these undoes yet they seem to be pretty reliable units and as you can see i'm driving like a maniac and it's still getting 34.8 miles per gallon and really here we have it in gear does it shake it does not shake at all it is one smooth car no this isn't going to stop me from being a toyota man but i got to say i'm relatively impressed by this car that the guy got for 1300 but a lot of it has to do with the owner who's an ex-brit pat he just changed the transmission fluid like i said he didn't flush it he just change changes the engine oil every 3000 miles if you maintain these things they can be great but take my word don't buy the little bitty turbo engines they're not going to hold up they have had problems with the turbos with the head gaskets going if you want one of these the 2.4 liter that's what you'd go for it could last quite some time there's absolutely nothing wrong with this car other than the brake pads are getting thin and it's got 70 something thousand miles i mean it's everything wears out eventually and that's no big deal get out this was the base model they wanted but it still came with nice wheels if you saw the video i did the other day on a honda civic guy hit it all decked out but he still had those cheap hubcaps and steel wheels hey this thing came with fancy wheels and his tires lasted almost 70 000 miles he just changed them so these are low maintenance vehicles if you take care of them you don't want to wreck the engine or the transmission but other than that pretty much like many asian cars a little bit of maintenance goes a long way if you go to casino and you win one of these and you only have to pay 1300 gift tax that's what the tax was here in rhode island hey jump at the opportunity but i just found out from the owner that that was the rhode island state tax he did have to declare the value of the car on his federal income tax so depending on your bracket it's going to cost you a reasonable amount of money a lot of people don't understand these gift taxes that it's not just the state it's the feds too and if you want to be above board you got to tell them and you're going to add many thousands to your income on that one and here's some bonus questions and answers well if you hate potholes like most drivers do you might check out this new british machine it's called the pothole pro and they claim it can do the job of three separate machines and fix a pothole in less than eight minutes even a relatively deep one now of course they're not cheap machines they cost around a couple hundred thousand dollars but really when you think about it the price of machines and out of these days that's not that much of course now this is done in england so they're trying to always save money so they're saying that well the municipalities can lease it for only 600 pounds each week you do that times you know it'd be like 30 something thousand dollars a year to lease the thing which of course is more suitable for government stuff since you guys want to put the cost down in the future and not put it in the present one but check it out it's kind of a bizarre looking machine and the chairman of this company jcb has to be a lord lord bamford who calls potholes the scourge of our nation this is in britain so the british think the same as we do i guess they don't like these potholes but they're working on this machine and no we'll see if that works over the long haul because i mean i've seen these pothole fixing machines in houston when i lived there and they were garbage i mean they threw stuff on they spit crap all over the place and it was very dangerous for guys like me to drive motorcycles because they often would leave little cinder rocks sprayed all over the place because they use air pressure and stuff and then if you're on a motorcycle you hit those little rocks you can lose control on a motorcycle if you lose traction on your wheel and with little rocks scattered all over the place it's like gravel and that's the dearth to motorcycle drivers we can't stand gravel that's really dangerous stuff when you're going on two wheels fast so i'd like to see it actually in action because i saw the ones in houston believe you me they were garbage and not only were they garbage because they made a mess then you'd see the same pothole within three four months it'd be right back again because it didn't even hold itself together so i'd like to see if one of these things actually do work well if you want to buy an electric motor transaxle unit that originally was in the gm ev1 electric car on ebay there's somebody in british columbia who's actually selling one the person that seemed was going to try to drop this motor transaction it's all one piece so you could just drop it in and put it in a volkswagen rabbit because they had a volkswagen rabbit diesel with the engine blew up and they liked the car but they didn't want to fix the diesel engine so they bought that and they thought okay let's try to drop it in well it didn't work as planned they attempted in british columbia to put it in a rabbit but it didn't work out so now this person is attempting to sell it and they're only asking three thousand sixty-four dollars presently for this ev1 electric motor transmission combo maybe you can try to figure out what to put it in the interesting thing is they probably bought it from a gm dealer because they had parts availability so they were some of those at the dealers in case one broke they could put them in one when it broke was since they destroyed all the cars they didn't go and destroy all the parts i guess somebody bought this one but they couldn't figure out how to swap it into a volkswagen rabbit so now they're selling it for the low price of three thousand dollars if you want one of these electric motor transactional units you can figure out what the heck you can put it into as far as i'm concerned eventually if people do want to get electric cars there's going to be a bunch of swap kits out there there's already kits out there there's going to be people doing that in the future that's for sure when they want to get an electric car because when you think about it you get rid of a car what mainly because either the engine or the transmission is blown and it costs thousands to fix well you're going to turn an electric car you throw those away anyway so somebody's going to come out with some kits for a lot of cars eventually and a lot of people will probably do that and say i got a perfectly good car it just has a lousy engine or transmission so i'll electrify so maybe you want to mess around with this it's only three thousand dollars for the motor and transactional assembly okay if you've got a reasonable amount of money and you hate stopping for gas you might check out the lexus lc 500h they say that it can go over 600 miles on one tank of gas snow slouching 168 miles an hour with its v6 engine and its hybrid drivetrain i've driven them they ride very smoothly and they've also souped up a lot of stuff one of the things in their uh automated transmission is that it downshifts into second gear instead of third when you're cornering so you get more acceleration it can drive zippier so if you've got a relatively unlimited budget to buy a car and you hate stopping for gasoline hey you might check out the lexus lc 500 h so if you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos remember to ring that bell [Music]
