Install the latest AMD Drivers or Preview Drivers on the ROG Ally - Full install and restore guide

hey allies today I'm going to talk to you about how to install update remove and restore your AMD drivers if you're on the r Ally for this you want to first of all do a bit of cleanup you have the AMD software installed in searchable via the start menu then you'll need to go to ad remove programs and uninstall this first so just find it in the installed apps list click the three dots and then click uninstall also if you've previously installed any AMD drivers or the AMD software just clean up this directory so open up your folder Explorer go to this PC under the C drive you should see an AMD folder if you are restoring or upgrading from a previous beta driver then you'll need to run the cleanup utility which we cover as part of the restore at the end of this video so if you need to run that first skip to the end otherwise delete that folder as it will confuse you if you have multiple versions in there so just get rid of the AMD folder by selecting it and pressing the trash button or right click and say delete next up we want to go and get the latest AMD driver or preview driver so for this go into your browser and search for AMD drivers and go to the drivers and support site we'll put all this in the accompanying article for you as well don't use the download Windows drivers option at the top that's an auto install instead you want to come down to this search for your product and once you've done it once as you can see see it remembers so in this search box just search for 7840 and you want the 7840 U driver and then don't select anything in the boxes below and just hit submit on the next page expand the windows 11 64-bit Edition and scroll past the auto detect and install and go straight to the AMD software adrenaline section and hit download this is 641 Meg so you can check the release date to make sure it's the latest one and download and save this to your drive now Windows 11 is a little bit weird it doesn't download by default so make sure you go in and hit the save button and depending on your connection this may take a minute to download now for the purposes of this video we're actually going to go through the preview driver for AMD fluid frames so using our link from our games inand article we're actually going to download the version for the preview driver here we're just going to download that but once we get to the next section the process is the same but if you do want to do this for preview drivers it does work as well once the software is downloaded open up the file accept the UAC prompt and then it will start installing however this will fail and this is expected so don't be disheartened wait for it to get to the point where it gives you an error it should only take around 20 seconds and once you got the oops something went wrong error close this out now we want to go to our start menu and search for device manager I'm using a Bluetooth key keyboard just to make this a little bit easier but you can do all this with the virtual keyboard as well so open up device manager from settings and then in the list expand display adapters and then double click on AMD radon Graphics open up the driver section and then update driver hit browse my computer and then at the bottom option let me pick a driver from my computer and then have dis from here you want to hit browse and then go to this PC on that C drive and then we're going to go through the AMD folder structure here so AMD AMD software installer packages drivers display and then this wtor imp folder and then the bottom. int file now this may have a different numbers on here but it should be the only int file here so select that and click okay this will populate the list with tons of mobile graphics cards and you are going to want the one that has TM 780m Graphics which is fairly near the top but be warned there are a couple of other versions of the 780m in this list so make sure that you do get the one with the TM and 780m Graphics all in one line as there are versions here without graphics and also without the TM in front so make sure it's that top version and matches the one that you see I've got selected here exactly hit the next button you'll get a install prompt saying that it's not recommended because it's not the driver that Windows picked just say yes and this will take a round around a minute or so to install your screen will go blank and flicker a couple of times as part of the installation process and once that's finished you can just close out of these boxes now we need to install the adrenaline software that matches that you can't do it via the usual method and especially as we're using the preview version here so we want to go into the folder structure again on the C drive AMD AMD software installer packages drivers display that imp folder again and then this time we're looking for a folder that begins with b and a bunch of numbers again the numbers could be different depending on the version you're installing go into this B folder and we're going to be looking for a file called ccc2 install find that and run it again accept the user access control PPS and this can again take around a minute or so to install and this will install the adrenaline software once that's finished just close out and because we've installed the new driver just for safety we want to reboot the system to make sure everything's clean and tidy so go ahead and restart at this point once we've restarted you won't be able to find the AMD software in the search button but you can get it through the rightclick contacts menu so long press if you're using the touchcreen or right click on the desktop and go to show more options now you'll have the option for the AMD software adrenaline Edition click this and it will open up with a first time setup either go through the quick setup or just skip this for now and you'll be in the latest version and you'll see that we got the latest version on the right hand side here and because this is the preview version if I go into the graphics section you can see that we have the AMD fluid motion frames option which we'll have a separate video on on testing or if this is now mainstream it's an awesome feature if you are running the preview version you want to head over to the performance Tab and set up the overlay as the Asus overlay does not work with the preview drivers and isn't the best with AMD direct drivers anyway so you do want to come in here and set this up it'll take you some time fiddling with bits and pieces but if you do put it in the top right increase the columns to around 7 and take off the 99% FPS as the option and FPS you can actually make it look very like the ribbon version of the Asus one anyway and also increase the size to 120% and it sits fairly well at the top although I haven't managed to get it right up to the top so just be aware of that or you can leave it as the square option as before that's it you're now up and running with the latest AMD drivers or the preview drivers and if you right click on the desktop you will still be a to get to that AMD software but as I said it will not show up in that start menu new contacts that's it for the install but if you are looking to uninstall or restore your previous version then what you need to do first is go back to that AMD install folder on the C drive under that AMD folder but this time you want to go into the AMD software installer and bin64 folder and run something called the AMD cleanup utility as administrator this will remove all of the drivers and also the AMD adrenaline software that you inst stalled from a fresh start this is also something that you should do if you are switching AMD driver versions between preview and the mainstream so bear that in mind and this takes around 5 minutes it took a really long time for me for this to run and it does also recommend running this from safe mode as well so just be aware that that process does take some time once you've cleared that out you will want to go into my Asus if you're going back to the original R Ally drivers when you go into system update it should have a new driver for you if you've uninstalled all the previous drivers but if it doesn't then you want to go to latest and then you want to untick the show latest drivers version and then you want to look at the AMD Graphics drivers and you can filter it via the menu up in the top right and look for the latest version and then hit the download arrow on the top left this will download the official R Ally drivers or hopefully the latest version or at least it will give you an update after you've installed that so that you'll be back to the official version now this won't reinstall the AMD adrenaline software that matches you need to get that from the Windows store and because a lot of people have issues with getting it from the store on the PC the quickest and most safe way to do this is just to open your browser and search for AMD software Ms store should be pretty much the top option so just go to the Microsoft store and the browser for the AMD radon software hit the install link and that should launch the store on your PC to install the AMD Radion software Windows version that will get you all back to stock and then you're ready for the next fun of preview drivers let us know how you
