Install Exchange 2016 on Windows Server 2016 from scratch

hello guys this is Johnny and today we're going to install Windows Server 2016 technical preview 3 because this is the latest we have so I'm going to do it from scratch so you can see the whole process what I have is my own Windows 7 machine which I use everyday I've been my workstation and which which is now a bit out and in general my C Drive is an SSD drive it's a 256 gigabytes of Samsung no it's actually an intel SSD so I've made sure I have some free space I have my ISO file for the Windows installation here I just downloaded it from Microsoft it's free you don't have to pay anything and you everyone can get it so so yeah let's go I can show you I don't have any machines I have for Windows 10 ovulation template machine which I'm going to use later so and that's it by the way and because installing a Microsoft Windows server is pretty straight straightforward I will be doing the main a bit doing Active Directory domain services installation as well I will promote the server to the main controller and then we're going to install exchange 2016 which just came out as an enterprise version it's been wife it's been live for a while and we had the technical preview for the exchange has been around for months the air I think one or two weeks ago the enterprise version came out so I have it and we'll install it maybe in a separate video so how I do it create new virtual machine I'm actually having 16 gigabytes from my Windows here alone is crazy I have so many things running so you can see without any virtual machines I have 6 gigabytes of usage and but yeah we're going to do internal SSD drive and I'm going to put around 8 gigabytes and so yeah right let me browse nothing breast the ISO file is you can see could not detect which operating system is in the disk image yeah that's because VMware Workstation 10 is a bit out you can see that as template versions it has Windows Server 2012 not even r2 Windows 8 not 8.1 or 10 so imagine what we're talking about so yeah let's let you swing 12 gonna do it 2016 and I want our next election to be on the C Drive so we can benefit from the speed of this SSD drive and yeah let's see I can you folder it I'm going to call the windows Hey Windows Server 2016 ok next 60 gigabytes adding it enough and it's enough for C Drive maybe later when we saw the exchange server I might add a second disk so we can split some logs and play we play a bit with it so yeah for now 60 gigabytes let's customize the color a bit I want eight gigabytes of RAM you can see that it's two gigabytes of RAM is 2048 so same way what we do on a gigabyte from this is the number I want there we go one processor let's say four cores and this is already down the network adapter I want I want it to be breached because I want to be part of this network but not the same IP as my uncle cooler which means it's going to pick up an IP from my DHCP server which is our server yeah doesn't matter see at the rest it can stay just like that accelerate Geographics I don't care so so let's go for or Finnish we're done so we can power up the machine right here we can see that it's a immediately booting up I don't have to do anything else on VMware Workstation and on the rest of the servers virtual machines yeah any any hypervisor will boot immediately so yeah that's it Windows Server 2016 technical preview 3 I would stay with Windows with English United States instead of for example we don't Kingdom so doing this on an SSD I'm not gonna cut any anytime on the installation I just want to show you guys how I want to do it for myself as well I want to see how fast this is going to run on an SSD drive and with good enough amount of ROM so yeah this is what we have we have two options this one this is what it used to be a server core but it doesn't say it it's a bit tricky so Windows Server 2016 technical preview server with desktop experience which means GUI so yeah there is a third version only exclusive in Windows Server 2016 which is called nano server but we still don't have it here maybe an RT M maybe in another maybe in a service pack for now it's going to install the via scripts I can I can give you guys link to my friends video who actually garden is so pretty in pretty awesome videos so yeah so let's let choose server with the sub experience we of course accept license how we could not install Windows we're not going to great we don't have any drives and I'm not gonna partition I rather had add an additional virtual disk to the VMware Workstation machine so just go to the next should be pretty straightforward just like installing a normal Windows desktop and we those 2012 and windows 2008 before so yeah I'm not I'm not pausing here I just want to see how fast this is going to go on an SSD drive and I just want for you two guys to see as well I didn't have an SSD before and I have to say that since I bought it and totally reborn and I mean I'm reborn with this thing the speeding incredible my Windows is rebooting and maybe five or six seconds sometimes eight or sometimes far so yeah um I can also use it to build some virtual machines really quickly and benefit from the good performance so I recommend everyone buying an SSD nowadays 256 gigabytes or even five one two gigabytes is pretty cheap so nothing really serious my previous video which is installing window exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 I was actually my old ha old hard disk and the video is one hour of unedited installation which could easily be cut down to I don't know 15 minutes so yeah I'm going to keep this this video without any cuts I actually prefer to do my videos that way because I know that most of the guides and most of the videos on YouTube and the Internet in general guides on how to install this and that are actually heavily cuts videos I mean they're really really edited so they're always perfect and I kind of have have a problem with this because every time I try to install something I'm looking at the perfect guide and yeah what can I say is sometimes my installation doesn't go the same as the installation in the video so I get pissed and I spent half have that I have twice as much time I spend on there and let's say on the internet finding how to solve my problem which doesn't we're on the video so yeah by the way you can see he see how fast how fast was the installation I mean they're going to reboot now and going to finish up the installation but yeah I think that whole installation can take up to five minutes and that's it and you have a server boom so yeah as I said I like my videos unedited I have not prepared the food for this video so same is you guys mites are usually getting two bumps so we're gonna resolve in life biome I'm recording this video I like this my previous videos are the same I intend all my videos to be the same I think this is this is this is something I am really keen on so you can have the same experience as me not just now my finger later amazingly enough I have a Windows Server 2016 now it's an ovulation copy all right server manager kicks in I'm seeing that some drivers are automatically installed which is good which is good we always like that the of course we have the wall the internet with the replacement of Internet Explorer which is Microsoft edge but used we should still be having Internet Explorer install ad so before you begin here we can always read you have the administrator confessor and password yeah let's do some preparation for that actually let's write ok so control on right I might install want to install some updates but for now I'll skip it go through the network settings and let's change from DHCP to a static IP address because when I'm pretty sure that you can install domain Active Directory domain services without the static IP so let's let it be another small local network it'll be 50 the Gateway let it be my router which is to five-fold the DNS server let it be well my router for the moment yeah no I don't want to try anything let's let's step in okay we have internet so that's good news there we go so that was my phone of course and let's see we have we have a services I'm not gonna click anything here or remove anything so just whatever it needs yeah do we want any any feature installed with it I don't think so it would rightly things to note to happen sure that user can still log on to the network in case of several teach install many more to domain controllers for mine yeah good the thing LDS requires a DNS server to be installed on network if you do not have a DNS server installed you will be promoted to install DNS over on this machine fine yeah just like a Windows servers installing idds will also install DFS namespace DFS replication file service reclamation services which are required by a BBC yes yeah now restarted the station server automatically yes a if I started is required the server Edition do loading at one texture starts yes please install so once this is done actually this is only installing the role so after that we need to promote this computer to the main controller it used to be with DC promo I'm not sure if there is other DNS server say I might uncheck it for any other domain controllers it's actually not mandatory but it's good for every domain controller to be a DNS server as well so type for the directory services restore mode password this this is the recovery mode of Active Directory it's just like booting the server with FA just like in safe mode but there is this directory service Assessor mode which is actually your the server running everything except ad so you can prepare it move it restore rate yeah do stuff like like that so let's type a password good good if it's different from your normal password that you use and it's a good idea to and to actually write it down somewhere you can reset it later but it's in Spain all right a delegation for this server cannot be created because no terrific person cannot be found yeah it's our first DNS server so we you can safely ignore this message right verify the NetBIOS name sign to the main and change it if necessary actually it's loading now so yeah at the net buzz name is actually what you want to type in as a username to log into the my for example my username is administrator is BBB so I'm going to log into the domain like this backslash BAE baebae so yeah this is the NetBIOS name you can log in fine with dot lock own and you will be able to log in but with the business NetBIOS name you can actually log in with this only as well so yeah this is harm fine with it I like it mark you change something else actually to be even more robust so so yeah let's see I see that the next party spots I wouldn't recommend recommend changing any of this unless you have a very serious reason so just just leave it like that I've never seen in production environments in enterprise environments I have never seen someone files the overall speed with my reboots on my computer the overall speed of my programs how they open oh this is Wow well this is this is quick come on well this is quick right we have ID I was just talking about how pleased I am with performance with a nice day and it just interrupted me with even more crazy speed so so cool so cool right after the reboot we should be logging in with our new domain accounts which because I haven't I don't have any accounts and it has converted my administrator account into the main account so no more local accounts at least not any domain controller they're not allowed any other server join to the main you can use any local credentials to log in locally without the domain or play with them create new deletes local groups and users but you can do it on the domain controller so of course the password stayed the same otherwise you won't be able to login so yeah this is by default of course so we're just using the same administrator which we use them when you selling the server right so this is taking longer than probably the installation of AD and the reboots okay it has to finish some settings it's actually installing gpo's the group policy management objects and everything so yeah ad is a big deal so I wouldn't I don't mind waiting for some time while we're 11 minutes so far since we're we started installing ad so having 18 10 11 15 minutes it's it's good it's good as I said I'm not gonna I'm gonna I'm not gonna pose anything so we can see the real duration if something there is long I can probably put some annotations once it's on YouTube so we can you can skip it but I so far I haven't seen any anything worthwhile for any skipping maybe this one this is a bit annoying but yeah I can I can show you small stuff while while we wait for this yeah my machine actually let me show you my machine my machine is an Intel Core i7 20:26 100k which I bought it in 2011 so that was a big deal back then yeah 16 gigabytes of RAM was also big deal back in 2011 but it's 2015 now so not not the strongest CPU there is this generation 2 there is generation 6 now which skyline architecture super duper processor 32 gigabytes is what I wish 64 maybe with a good motherboard yep so still applying the computer settings yeah my video card let me show you my video card no I don't want to check my drivers have many displays yeah so I have a AMD Radeon r9 200 series which is a very good video card but I'm not satisfied today and II anymore my next video card will be and video for sure I just I just don't know the catalyst is really really poor software in at least in my opinion it's giving a lot of problems so I've even had to downgrade couple of versions because the new ones started feeling a bit weird doing stuff like closing my monitors and so yeah let's just wait for the plank purse I think well this is actually taking longer than I expected so legislate for you what else so yeah let me talk about my nan my plan in general so my final plan is to deploy exchange 2016 and browse a bit making Mexican configurations they're making the first mailboxes I might do in separate videos because we don't need a such a long video let's just do it right it will require 8.6 gigabytes and we have 14 month that's good um I don't see any any reason why would you would change based on your architecture and based on your design I would leave it in C I've seen lots of lots of production servers staying on C then you can use the other partitions in the server for different transaction logs and the database in an hour partition as well so we might have two partitions more but I would like the constellation to stay in C I recommend you do the same so specify the name for this exchange organisation well this this doesn't need to be the same as your Active Directory domain name so you can choose whatever you want I'll just call it 26 lot organization with zip right split permission since 2013 I it's a very very specific niche of people who would like to install with split permissions we're not one of them and I really doubt you ever you have to need to do it so just go with it mobile protection settings yeah I've seen this one 2013 and you can see this in my installation of 2013 so this is the same in 2016 as it seems Mars kinda have to protect messages environment yeah yeah I would like I click now and don't
