so even though the insta 360 X4 is not marketed by insta 360 as a camera that excels in low light you can still get some really great footage and low lighting with the right settings and what I found when experimenting with the X4 is I find that this actually gets a little bit better footage than the X3 and low lighting but it is important to have the right settings because if you don't have the right settings you're going to get footage that's unusable or footage that just doesn't look good so in today's video I'm going to give you a quick run through the settings that I find work best in low lighting and these are settings that you don't have to have a gimbal for now if you do already own a gimbal there is one setting that I'm going to provide you that you can change a little bit because of the gimbal but otherwise if you don't own a gimbal these settings will work with the insta 360 X4 without needing a gimbal so let's talk about those settings before we get into the specific low light settings a few things to check on the main menu that will affect how your footage looks so you want to swipe down swipe left and get to this setting right here with the Cog and we're going to click on that and what you want to do is you want to go down here you want to click on image settings for the video encoding make sure it's set to h.265 that's important to get the highest quality footage for bit rate make sure it's set to high and then for video sharpness make sure that's set to low I find these settings will give the best results in low lighting so something you'll notice if you're ever going into low light and what you'll notice right now because I have the lens covered is this little setting right here which gives you a low light shooting tip and it recommends when lighting conditions are dim 5.7k will produce a Brighter Image now I want to mention right up front I have tried switching to 5.7k using the settings I'm going to recommend and I didn't necessarily find any type of improvement there I found it still looked equally as good in 8k so in this case I recommend you can experiment a little bit see what you think but I found that the settings I'm going to provide for 8K also look great so first thing you want to do is down here at the bottom you want to set the resolution and frame rate to 8K 30 I recommend that and I'll explain a little bit later why I recommend that frame rate of 30 but I do recommend the 8K 30 and then the next thing you want to do is you want to swipe left and we want to select the M here the M is for manual having that manual exposure is going to be really important when filming in low light because we need to prevent the shutter speed from getting too slow a shutter speed that's too slow will create Jitter and ghosting in your footage and that's not going to look good and that's because Eis which is electronic image stabilization also called Flow State on here it needs a certain shutter speed in order to function properly and the nice thing about the X4 is that shutter speed is a little bit lower than some other cameras with smaller sensors so that that is one nice aspect of this so once you've selected M there first thing you want to do is you want to go to color mode so I recommend standard or flat that really just depends if you want to do any grading later on I like to do a little bit of grading for that so I'm going to select flat but if you don't want to do any color grading just select standard for the shutter speed right here what I have found is 1 over 120 Works nicely with a frames per second of 30 that is a fast enough shutter speed I don't find any Jitter or ghosting in my footage so I like using the 1 over 120 if you do own a gimbal then I recommend setting this to 1 over 60 one over 60 is going to give you that 180° shutter angle it is going to have that nice cinematic motion blur if you don't have a mechanical Gimbal and I didn't use one for any of this footage just keep it at 1 over 120 mechanical gimbal is something extra to bring along and it's bulky it's large and part of the appeal of a camera like this is to have something that's very small so shutter speed of 1 over 120 right there and then for the iso this is going to be purely dependent on how bright your low lighting is so if you're in an urban area with lots of lighting you may be able to do an ISO of 100 or 200 and find you like the exposure if it is a little bit darker in the low lighting you're probably going to need to use something like 400 and if it's quite low lighting you're probably going to need to use all the way up to 800 now I don't recommend going over 800 for the iso because there are two things that I notice a it either gets really noisy in graining your footage like if you're up at 1600 there can be a lot of noise or or when you're up in these higher isos there is a certain denoising effect that takes place inside the X4 which is great it does help eliminate some of that noise but the footage can look extra smooth and you can be losing out on a lot of detail especially if you're going along like a brick wall a stone Street anything like that where there's a lot of detail in the low light you're going to miss out on that if the iso is too high and there's a lot of D noising taking effect and something I noticed with that d noising is anything above ISO 400 that really starts to kick in so with the sample footage that I filmed I kept the iso as high as 400 but I never went higher than 400 some of the scenes were 200 and some were 400 so my recommendation there is don't go over ISO 400 unless you really have to it's going to give you the best looking footage if it's ISO 400 or below and the final setting here is white balance when I'm filming in low lighting I like to use a white balance of about 4,000k I find that gives the best results but anything between 3200k and 4,000k will look good 3200k is going to be a little bit Bluer in low lighting but I generally use 4,000k as my favorite setting and that's it those are the settings that I recommend for low lighting speaking of settings for the X4 if you'd like to learn more about the X4 and the best settings I recommend for all the other modes check out this video right here [Music] [Music] [Music]
