the one x two and the pocket two are both high quality tiny cameras that you can take with you pretty much anywhere but when it comes to using editing and the final looks of these two different cameras they're very different in this video we're going to compare the insta 360 1x2 to the dji pocket 2 and figure out which of these cameras makes the most sense for you as a disclaimer insta360 reached out to me and they wanted me to know if i wanted to review one of their cameras i said i would like to make a comparison video with the pocket tube and i wasn't really interested in making a review video that a million people have already made and i'm really thankful that they were on board and that they sent me this camera but that being said they are not watching it before i post it or tell me to say anything or not say anything so they have no influence over this review and for what it's worth i purchased the pocket two myself okay first things first when it comes to price the 1x2 retails for about 430 dollars and that's just for the camera it will cost you about 460 to 570 dollars if you want to purchase a kit the pocket 2 retails for about 350 or 500 for the creator kit i'll be comparing these two cameras in this video but uh for what it's worth i think it is worth looking into picking up some of the accessories or just a whole kit that comes with one of these cameras because it will make your filming life a lot easier and your videos better okay the first major difference between these two cameras is the way they film the 1x2 films everything around it while the pocket 2 only films directly what's in front of it the 1x2 does all of its framing in post-production while the pocket 2 is more of a traditional camera in what you film is what you get this may seem basic to mention but if you've never used a 360 camera before this is something to get used to the insta360 app has a lot of automated features for you but just know if you're using a 360 camera there is some level of editing you will have to do before sharing your videos the do it all handle allows you to control your pocket too remotely but that is an additional purchase the 1x2 base camera has built-in bluetooth and wi-fi and in my opinion i think the pocket 2 should really at least have bluetooth and wi-fi added to the base camera without the need for additional accessories this is something i've said for a long time but i wish dji would just build all of those features into the base camera for the small amount of people that don't want to use their pocket 2 with bluetooth or wi-fi not buying the do it all handle brings the overall cost of the camera down however so this could be a good feature or a bad feature depending on what you're looking for in the pocket 2. the next big difference between these two cameras is the quality and the focal length the pocket 2 has a 93 degree field of view which is about a 20 millimeter full frame equivalent the 1x2 has a 360 degree view and each camera has about a 7.2 millimeter full frame equivalent lens on it 20 millimeters versus seven millimeters is a huge difference when you put these cameras side by side if you're looking for high quality natural looking footage the pocket two will probably give you a better look if you prefer the wider field of view the one x two will allow you to get closer to subjects while still keeping them in the frame with the wider field of view the 1x2 can also reframe and crop in post so you'll be losing some quality zooming in but you are able to get closer if that's something you're interested in one focal length isn't better or worse than the other it comes down to personal preference in what you'll be doing with each of these cameras another difference in these cameras is the resolutions and frame rates the pocket 2 can shoot up to 4k at 60 frames per second while the 1x2 can shoot at 5.7 k at 30 frames per second or 3k at 100 frames per second but these reso these resolutions are the entire 360 degree view for shooting wide angle steadicam footage with the one x 2 the maximum resolution will be 1440p at 50 frames per second both cameras have 100 megabits per second video but again the 1x2 the entire 360 degree view is that 100 megabits per second the pocket 2 has a 93 degree field of view so the video appears to be of higher quality just because there's a narrower field of view with the pocket too the pocket 2 is better from a pure quality standpoint but the ability to reframe your shots after they're taken may be more important to you than image quality both cameras have log profiles but they're 8-bit 8-bit log won't allow you to color grade that much but that being said the pocket 2 is much nicer to color grade because of that narrower field of view and the higher bit rate if you're trying to grade both of these side by side i would definitely say the pocket 2 wins but here's the thing i don't think i would be shooting in log and trying to color grade and squeeze as much dynamic range as i possibly could out of a 360 camera i use the camera to capture unique perspectives and i wouldn't really try to squeeze all that dynamic range that log is trying to give me so while the pocket 2 is clearly the winner here it also comes down to how you're going to use these cameras when it comes to audio i'll let you guys be the judge this part of the video is recorded using the onboard microphones of both of these cameras all the audio is unprocessed i might have to apply some gain in post just to equalize it but i'll keep that consistent and put it on screen so you guys can see it i've recently taken a look at my analytics and only four percent of the viewers are subscribers that means 96 percent of people who watch my videos are not convinced enough to subscribe so if you're enjoying this content subscribe so you can find your way back to my channel in the future i have no idea how the youtube algorithm works but i'm sure views subscribers and view duration have something to do with it so if you're enjoying this content subscribe and check out some of my other videos if you're a returning subscriber i just wanted to say welcome back to my channel and thank you for your support so which one of these mics did you guys think was better let me know in the comments down below and i will be waiting for your mic reviews both of these cameras have apps and we'll start with the insta360 app this is where you'll be doing most of your importing editing and exporting of your videos the app also has a shot lab directory of different shots and tutorials and how to make them within the app you can start shooting a clip adjust settings and camera positioning and when you're done filming you can track edit and export your footage right within the app there's an ai editor that will help you track edit and create clips based on the subjects or you can do it manually if you'd like insta360 also has a desktop app and a premiere pro plugin if you'd like to edit on a desktop but the mobile app has been great for me so far with the automated tracking and editing so i haven't really been using the desktop apps much the dji memo app allows you to change camera settings record move the gimbal around import edit and export your footage but the pocket 2 isn't reliant on the memo app the memo app is an enhancement to the camera that you can use or not use to shoot your photos and videos the insta360 app is much more feature rich than the memo app but that's because you use these cameras very differently and the editing techniques for 360 video is a little different you'll need to use the app to edit 360 footage so it makes sense that the app is so integrated with the one x2 you can also edit within the memo app but you also have the ability to take your sd card out and just use any video editor you'd like without the need for any plugins to edit the footage great stabilization might be one of these things that the cameras have in common though the flow state stabilization of the insta360 app uses the gyro data of the camera to stabilize the footage to give you some insane results with the one x two if you're using this camera in a shaky high speed action environment the one x two is going to do a great job stabilizing your footage the pocket two stabilization comes from the gimbal so all the traditional gimbal techniques also apply to the pocket too like you don't want to move the camera vertically too much or your footage will look like it's bouncing back and forth the insta360 can fix some of that but if you're bobbing both of these cameras up and down or just moving them in weird ways relative to your subject they will not smooth everything out both of these are not magic bullets to just stabilize all footage but if you have very rough fast motion the insta360 camera will do a much better job with that than the pocket 2. the pocket 2 is more of a panning and tilting and cinematic camera where the 1x2 is more of an action camera when it comes to the durability and water resistance of these two cameras the 1x2 has the leg up over the pocket too the pocket 2 is pretty durable and i've used it in snow and accidentally dropped it a couple times i don't recommend dropping it but after using both these cameras the overall build quality of the one x2 is better with less external moving parts than the pocket 2 but that's just the design of the pocket too one thing i dislike about the one x twos case though is that there's no great way to put it down even when it's off both cameras protrude out of the side of the one x two so if you put the camera down and it falls it's going to land straight on the lens and possibly crack or scratch it only the bottom is flat so this is the only way you can put this on a table and if something knocks it over like i said it's going to land straight on the lens and possibly damage it the pocket 2 also suffers this problem when you're using it but the base is sturdy and when you turn it off the camera actually moves over and allows you to put the pocket 2 safely down on the table without scratching the lens of the camera if you're using these cameras on a tripod this isn't as big of a deal but when you just want to put these cameras both down on a table i think both of these camera companies could improve their design so if something accidentally knocks these cameras over you're not either scratching the lens or damaging the gimbals of your camera both of these cameras also have the ability to live stream straight from the device to youtube facebook or any other rtmp stream the one x2 can also be connected to your computer and used as a webcam though something i wish the pocket 2 would have implemented it's nice that both of the cameras are available to use with the 1x2 as well pressing the record button once will turn the front camera on pressing it again will switch it to the back camera pressing it one more time will do a multi-cam split screen this is pretty cool and a really smart implementation of these cameras on this device i really wish the pocket 2 would be available as a webcam on a computer both can stream from the app but until the pocket 2 can be used as a webcam with your computer the 1x2 wins here when it comes to accessories both of these cameras can be adapted to those cheap gopro mounting system of accessories that i absolutely love the 1x2 and the pocket two adapters can both be found on amazon for pretty cheap and i'd recommend picking up one of these adapters with whatever camera system you go forward with there's a huge ecosystem of cheap mounts out there that will give you some great footage one downside to the one x two is the lack of nd filters though currently there is no nd filter available for the one x two that i could find uh there are some filters for the insta360 one r but not for the one x two the pocket two has tons of filters available for it though check a link in the description to learn more about nd filters for the pocket 2 but just know that nd filters for the 1x2 are non-existent right now so if you plan on shooting cinematic type video the pocket 2 is your better bet here one more thing to be aware of with the 1x2 camera is the transition between the lenses the camera does a fantastic job at stitching far away objects together between the front and back lenses when you're in the app panning around the stitching of far away objects is seamless but if you're holding the 1x2 while you're filming with it there will be a line across your hand where the lenses just can't see where your hand is this is getting pretty picky and i understand that it's impossible to film something that's below it and it can't see but if you're filming i would invest in one of those invisible selfie sticks this completely solves that problem and i would recommend picking up one of those if you plan on handheld filming with your 1x2 one thing i was very interested in was trying to attach the 1x2 to my drone i have a mount for my mavic air 2 so i decided to fly my 1x2 but i couldn't get the camera to properly balance on my mavic air 2. all of the connections were tight and i feel like i was doing everything right i tried to get both the 1x2 and the pocket two to balance on my mavic air too but i ended up spending hours trying to get these to properly balance and they were just vibrating back and forth way too fast and caused my mavic air ii to fly very unstable i've seen people post videos of attaching their cameras to their mavic air too but for some reason i just couldn't get them to work properly probably my fault somehow but if you've had any luck attaching these cameras to your drone please let me know what mounts you're using in the comments down below so when it comes down to it which of these cameras is better for you well the answer is it depends what you're shooting i know that's not a great answer but the pocket 2 feels more like a normal camera for traditional styles of filming while the insta 360 1x2 is more of an action camera and when you're doing really fast movements and you don't want to frame your shots this is a great camera for you they both have different looks to their footage as well if you prefer the wider field of view and effects that the insta360 app gives you the one x2 is for you if you prefer shooting less action style videos and trying to squeeze as much high quality content out of a camera as possible then the pocket 2 is something you should look at while these cameras have a lot of things in common they also are totally different and in some situations they could be the perfect complements to each other if you need to film something in a tight space with a wider field of view or heavy action the 1x2 could be really handy or while you just need a little bit tighter of a focal length and tracking some slower moving objects the pocket too could come in really handy for that so while they are completely different they could also be used together in the same video and could actually complement each other pretty well another interesting video could be comparing the 1x2 to a more action style camera and the pocket 2 to a larger gimbal and camera setup that could be interesting videos and if you would like to see those leave me a comment down below and if you enjoyed this video check out some of my other videos and share them with a friend if you didn't enjoy this video share them with someone you don't like thanks for sticking around to the end and i'll see in the next one
